Gerard Way, the lead singer, wrote this song for this grandmother who passed away. She used to be a dancer and he was really close to her. The girl who dances at the end is performing her last dance.

When they went on their last tour this was the last song on the setlist...
So the last words that mcr has ever song together as a band were "So long and goodnight"

since this song was partially about gerard and mikey's grandma, i was sad when i heard that the first time mikey saw the video and song he cried. and their grandma's name was elena, and one of her nicknames was helen, so that combined the two to get helena. which is also my name!
I've been waiting for this!! This song is partially about the death of Gerard Way (lead singer) and his brother Mikey Way (bass) grandmother, Elena (I don't remember why they changed a little bit the name). Basically this song means a lot to the band because Elena taught Gerard how to draw, paint and sing (she even gave Gerard his first car). She supported Gerard and the band, and she died when they were writing the second album, so the song is dedicated to her. It was hard for them to make the music video because Gerard would get really sad and cry, but then continue. The people in the video besides the band, are fans. The lyrics have a lot of meaning when you know the story behind this.

The reason it's called Helena, is because Elena's nickname was Helen, so put two and two together and it makes, Helena.

This was the second MCR song I ever listened to, and it's still one of my favourites. Especially when you consider the story behind it all, it's really special and meaningful. I think it's really sweet that Gerard wrote a song for his grandmother, doing stuff like that can be a good way of dealing with a loss, and it resulted in another beautiful song for all us fans to enjoy!
