- Thanks to RockAuto.com for sponsoring this video. Will this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 run after sitting for over 20 years? We're trying something a bit different this week! After getting the Honda Trail 70 running and going for a ride ( • Blast From the Past: H... ), Davin is rabid for a quick turnaround on a project and we're hoping this classic Mustang fits the bill. This Mach 1 has been on a trailer in a pole barn for about 15 years, but was parked long before that. The Mustang owner's grandson helps us tow it back to our garage and Davin makes a quick attempt to get it running. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as Davin attempts to get this pony car back on the road.

Drooling here. Why can't I have a grandpa who owned a vintage Mustang, and then stored it for the last 30 years??
Lmao
A HUGE percentage of them were red. The blue ones were nice and this green one is on the rare side. Nice car! Can’t wait to see it moved along.
There is a local car museum with a Mach 1 in the same shade of green as this one in the video--it is breathtaking to day the least--restored to factory specs. I'm a GM guy but anything made during the muscle car era piques my interest, especially Mustangs.
The most rarest 69 Mach1 color was the avocado green. I had one of only two in the United States.
My 69 Mach 1 was Black Jade from the factory.
Sometimes "will it run?" videos ends up with a nope. Hagerty is one of the honest ones. Looking forward to next week!
the sound of a 1970's Ford starter with no noise after is quite common lol reminds me of my childhood family's Mercury Montego and it was quite new at the time....rerreerrerrrerrrerrerrrerrrreeeerr....nothing...
When he was sanding the points I somehow expected a Mook coming around the corner any moment :-D
OMG! In 1972 I bought a 69 Mach1 428cj wirh the shaker hood and 4 speed stick in maroon. I used to street race it and was never beat by anything. God I loved that car!
Not to long after rebuilding the motor I got talked into a new Pontiac with all the creature comforts. I wish I'd have kept the Mustang.
The trailer tow machine at 3:39 was impressive in itself...
The cleanest 20 year "Stored" vehicles I've ever seen,,,
People without salt on their roads or in the air dont know how lucky they really are
@@b_man3179 Right being from Fl and now up North,,,,salt is a Killer,,,, the Used 3yr old F150's coming out of Canada,,,,undercarraige is shot
My Sister (in 1975)r had a Silver Jade '69 Mach 1 with an 'S' code 390, C-6 Auto with a Shaker hood and rear window slats... Loved that car! It was 2 years before I got my license.
Pull the plugs, and give it a compression check too, there may be a stuck valve or ring blowby after sitting so long. Car is amazing for its age and lack of attention. I too am cheering for you guys to get it running again.
My dream car! In the perfect color.
That Tom Cotter burn 🔥🔥🔥
This car sat for 20 years. Don't risk ruining the engine by trying to rush the start. Take a the time to change the oil and pull the distributor to prime it.
It's primed now. 30 seconds of cranking should be enough.
That’s one straight & clean Mach. 😎👍🇨🇦
Love to the grandpa, and the grandma.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!
I could feel the energy when you first uncovered it. Then Cam's energy when you said get it running........great feeling!!
I missed out on a 69 Mach back in the day. It was sitting in a front yard for sale.
It turned out that that the son owed his father money. Dad held title to the car. He told me 2500 takes it. I ran down to the bank. When I came back some guy with a flat bed was loading up the car. He was driving by had the cash on hand and the rest is history.
best looking mustang ever... love the 69...
That's a wonderful example of an original 69 Mach One. Can't wait to see, hear it running and driving.
Always loved the "Silver-Jade" color. Not very menacing in that color, but very unique. Had a Black one years ago, but my next one may be in this color, or "Meadowlark-Yellow"
To me, the most beautiful model yer Mustang.
Change the oil, rebuild the ignition, rebuild the carb, new air filter, new antifreeze, and thermostat then time to try it out. That's a 2 day job if the carb rebuild kit is available and you take your time. Once that's going do a brake job and get new tires.
Yeah you should always do a reverse coolant system flush as well. Not to mention the fuel filter, and pre-oil the cylinder bores.
67 through 70 are my favorite years of Mustang! I had a 67 Fastback 2+2, 289 3sp on the floor. Wish I still had it!
‘67 & ‘69 are my favorite year Mustang’s. To each their own but styling-wise I think those years are best. In fact I’d say just about every car made in ‘67 looked great.
I agree, the '67 started the change for the new look, and the '69 was the best looking Mustang ever in my opinion.
@@Jedi391 - The detail changes made the ‘68 less attractive than its predecessor.
@@Jedi391 Only because of the federally mandated side marker lights and the elimination of the side scoops. Otherwise same car. 69 my favorite, then 67, then 71-72... I could only afford the 71 lol.
A beauty from a time gone by, looks like pristine sheet metal as well. Hopefully, throw some seals, gaskets, ignition parts, maybe a couple of wheel cylinders and 1969 comes back to life! Use to see these cruising our main drag once upon a time.
Wow that thing looks really honest and original, you don't see that much anymore...
Wow. What a cool project. Thank you for sharing. 🇨🇦👍
Can't wait for this one 👍🍻
I love that green color!!!
This is awesome. I am currently restoring a 69 Mach 1 S-code 390/4 speed.
That 69 Mach 1 sounds great looks good too body looks pretty solid even after sitting about 20 years
I remember seeing a couple of '69 Mustangs that looked exactly like this one, it was the early 70's. Love that color! Good luck with it!
Davyn is excited over this one. I'm dying to hear this run.
You won’t have to wait long! 😉
What a great car in a unique color. Looks in amazing condition. Windsor had a 2 barrel and Cleveland had a 4 barrel and better internal parts list if my memory is correct With 290 listed horsepower. My first new car was a red with gold strips Mach I with a 351 Cleveland. Also. For all those complaining about the new Mach I not having a Shaker hood. Take a close look. No shaker hood. The Shaker came on Cobra Jet cars. I opened my scoop and purchased a breather ram air air filter that worked off vacuum. Loved that car, but having kids created a need for a larger vehicle so the Mustang had to go. One of my favorite cars.
The 351 Cleveland has canted valve heads simular to the big block Chevy. The 290 horsepower rating was underrated in 69 for insurance reasons. 300+hp was considered high risk.
Is there ANYTHING more enjoyable than a "will it run" video? Nope. Beautiful car, hell for here in the frozen wasteland, that old girl is like new.
Beautiful car, beautiful color!
This "should be" a fun freshen up and a box of parts installed. But are they ever? ❗
Really nice car. Cheers 🇨🇦
Love 69 & 70 Mustangs nothing better.
'69-'70 Mustangs still look as good as any car styled during that period.
Adding Mach 1 equipment only makes it that much nicer.
The 1969 Mach 1 Mustang was one of the best looking, sexiest looking muscle cars of the 1960's. I've always wanted one, especially a 428 CJ, but a clean looking one is pretty much out of reach for the average car guy. Still love them though and looking forward to seeing this one get back on the road.
1969 was the best styling on Mustangs in my opinion. I loved the quad headlights.
@@Jedi391 They did a good job with those.
Agree that's why I bought a GT 350, an upgrade from the great Mach 1.
That's one hell of a cliffhanger you got there! I'm hooked!
Tune in next week!
Project car? ? This is a catch up on the maintenance put on new tires and drive it anywhere car. No rust, no rodents, no missing parts....sweet ride!
Awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing this run!
My best friend in high school had a 69 Mach 1. It was blue. I love that car. He had a 67 fastback with a 390 in it before that. I loved that car even more. I'm glad to see you have this one to work on. I'm glad to see that it's in such good condition. I'm looking forward to seeing this car run.
The 390 mustangs always had a problem with excessive smoke and rear tire wear.
I can’t believe you tried to start it without at least replacing the old oil. Now it’s everywhere in the pump and engine!!! All from start to there I thought you were spot on but you got too excited!
Might as well do the water pump, those things are notorious...
It looked a little rusty around the edges.
as an owner of a '70 Mach, i'm always glad to see another one back on the road. that one looks so clean i wonder what the owner's intent was as a 'project' 25 years ago? also, I could never never have a car hauler sit loaded up for 15 years...that would be my hardest working vehicle of all lol
What a car and history! Thanks for share knowledge, Davin!
That is a beautiful car I would have at least oiled those cylinders, it's good it didn't start. I'm sure you know better sometimes we get excited and don't think, the car was definitely stored well. Really looking forward to seeing this one.
Man that car is gorgeous 😍
What a beauty, that colour is fantastic.
I hope he oiled the cylinders down good before turning it over..most don't and that's the fastest way to wipe rings out of an engine that's sat..priming them only helps the bearings.
that's still a dream car for me.... but man the prices of these things the past few decades have taken off from what i remember.
@\VV/ In 1970 I was 17. Mom loaned me $600 to buy a '65 squareback, factory 289 hipo! It had it all. Big alternator pulley, engine balancer, quicker ratio steering,4 speed & 9 inch rear! A few years later, I bought a '65 fastback that had the 289 hipo drivetrain installed in it. It had a BIG Crower solid lift cam, Torquer intake, Holley, headers, line lock, 4 speed & a 4.57 9 inch rear. With 7" cheaters. I shifted at 7,000 rpm it was my daily driver & racer. In the 1/8 it ran 8.30. This was about 1972 or '73. I payed $650 for it,I'd give anything to still have it even though I'm 68!
@@Mike583 A "K" code that's cool. A friend of mine had Red 65 GT K code almost exactly like that. He went into the service and when he came home on leave the car was gone. Turns out his Dad sold it, told him you're going to kill yourself in that thing. Bummer!
Gonna be tuning in to see this car run for sure
69 mustang is the best looking next to the 65 fastback. Looks like a cool project.
I had 69 Mach one when I was 18 Just like that one, 351 Windsor with a 3 speed trans. Mine had the shaker carb. Now I have a 2017 460 hp GT. It's awesome.
Excited to watch this get on the road.
Good grief that thing is like a time capsule. Should be an easy turnaround.
So excited to see where this goes, nice! Love the way you present content, not over our heads, a great shade tree mechanic style. Cheers!
I know of a few of these I'm waiting to get my hands on. One is an original owner 65 fastback, sitting in a garage since the 80's.
Man this is such a cool project! This is definitely my favorite since the original Timelapse engine rebuilds 🤠
What a gorgeous car, it deserves to be back on the road again! The 60s kicked out the best looking cars.
Nice Mustang. Glad to see you getting to do some short projects. I know you have to get tired of the long ones and it will be nice to watch you do these short projects also. Keep up the good vids guys.
Great project! I can't wait to see the next episode.
I can’t wait for this series.
Replace all of fluids. Belts hoses. Tune up parts. Use seafoam. Marvel Myrstry oil.
Looking forward to next weeks episode!
Wow! That’s a keeper right there!
I had this exact same car wish I still did
My favorite car in my favorite color ! Can't wait to hear it run ..
Did I miss that the fuel line got disconnected or pinched off? I wouldn't have wanted to pump a bunch of nasty old gas from the tank up to the carb. I like to spin them over the first time for oil pressure with the plugs out. Less stress on the dry engine and it spins over faster, thus priming the lube system faster. Also, the pugs out gives the opportunity to add some lubrication to the cylinders. I like MMO for that because of the Stoddard solvent in it (about 25% last time I checked, plus mineral oil). Can't wait for next week!
I usually disconnect the fuel line and just squirt 2 stroke gas down the carbs to fire it off quick.
cool. People on youtube assume that literally every fuel tank is rusted out. Probably because of a certain channel I won't name.
Marvel Mystrey oil
@@Terminxman If it does have gas in it definitely needs a Good cleaning out! It probably helps a Lot,being stored indoors!
I'm sure gramps put Sta Bil in the gas when parked.
Any car sitting this long ... I would have pulled all the plugs and squirted a *little* light oil (transmission fluid is good) into each cylinder. Then crank it with the plugs out for a bit to get the oil pressure up and re-seat the rings and valve seats.
Can't wait till next week. I'm still old school I would prefer to work on something like this any day of the week compared to the stuff that they make nowadays with all the computers and technology. That car won't take much to get up and running good as new
I'm stoked to see this project!!!
Hey Dave & team. loving your show, keep up the good work, u guys make my week, Im in Sydney Downunder. I get super excited every Tuesday evening when I see the next episode pop up..
finally someone who left it inside and covered !! instead of in a field uncovered !
Very cool project. I'm hooked.
Finally someone covers there car while waiting to restore it!
Heck, a '69 Mach 1 has always been my favorite car, and I'm a GM guy!
'65 Corvette, '70 Camaro Z28, a few Pontiac Firebirds in the 90s and a 2017 1500 Silverado these days.
Looking forward to this series! :)
I'm also a Chevy guy, but I do have a 69 Mach 1.
But I also have, 69 Corvette Convertible, 69 Corvette Coupe, 69 2 door Chevelle, 73 Z28 RS
My Dad worked at a Ford dealership in so cal when the 64 + 1/2 --65 fastbacks Shelby's etc. first came out !! he was probably one of the first people to drive/ deliver a mustang (have cards of mustangs he sent back to Iowa to aunt Edna ). This green one sweet nice job David 👍
I would definitely not put points back in they are unreliable you can drop in a Petronix Hall effect about 70 bucks and never worry about it again
My points work great in my C10.
Keep it original.
Wanted to give it a thumbs down because I didn't hear it start. But I'll be here next week. Damn you!!
Got ya! 😉
Replace the fuel tank, and fuel line as well. Possible rust in the line. Not to mention old has that will cause problems with the valve's.
Another cool video!!! I'll wait for the next!!!
Very cool, really enjoyed!!!!! 👍👍👍
Looking forward to this one
So awesome, y'all are working on my dream car!
sweet color
From the sound you’ve got at least one weak cylinder on that pony.
Does the heart good to see unmolested cars like this. She's a beautiful car
Way Cool! I have owned a bunch of 69-70 Cobra Jet cars few small blocks. Lately have had inkling for another . .
Man I wish my doors closed that good ! Lol
How lucky are you that cars this cool can be left to sit and then brought back to life 20 years later? Here in the UK my '86 Capri would be dust..... Cannot wait to see this fire up and run!
New parts? That's not how the boys of Roadkill do it on the Motor Trend Channel.
Mach 1! Cool!
Awesome car and looking forward to seeing it fire.
Love it it's amazing looking car. I love the 69 Mustangs. Great job guys 🐎💯🇺🇸
Waiting to hear it 👍
Replacing the ignition parts is a good is a, but the quality of the replacement parts are suspect. Might want to hang onto the old stuff for a while, just in case.
Awesome ride! I had a 72 Ford Torino with the same motor.
