Every decent minded citizen should do a ride along with your local police or sheriff's department. You'll get a whole new perspective on what is real and what isn't real, as depicted in the news.
The definition the officer gave for a pedestrian in a crosswalk is fortunately wrong. I don't know their specific law, but usually most states state that if there is traffic a pedestrians cannot enter the crosswalk until it is clear. By his definition he states a pedestrian can enter a crosswalk at any time and all traffic have to stop which usually is not the law.
They made it law here as well. However many jurisdictions chose not to Completely follow the letter of the law due to the way it is written. It states if there is a pedestrian waiting to cross all traffic across all lanes (mind you the city I am in the main street has 5 lanes counting the center turn lane) and remain stopped until the pedestrian has completely crossed and is on the side walk on the opposite side of the street. This was not limited to crossing at cross walks. As you can imagine the night mare it would cause if the letter of the law were to be followed since if ANYONE even Looked like they Might want to cross merely standing at a curb meant all traffic would have to come to a stop. How are you or anyone supposed to know if someone actually is intending on crossing? Hence why many jurisdictions elected to not enforce the letter of the law and mad eit clear by announcing it to let law makers know how poorly the law was written.
Nice ride along Police Video and Amazing County sheriff
I remember back when Millbrae had a police department. Used to see them once in a blue moon.
Actually saw them quite frequently myself. I was a night worker then too!
