Another way: use a secondary VISA/debit with limit of $500 max purchase for internet/restaurant or gas pumps.

Identity theft and credit fraud "Should" be ten year minimum sentence.

  • @espy0008

The way I handle this is having all my credit cards maxed out.

In my area of the country (and may be all) there is a state certification sticker that is placed over the card reader to prevent scammers from installing their "own" card reader. If you ever see that certification sticker broken there is a good chance that the gas pump has been tampered with. Report it to the owners and find another pump.

    1. Set your CC “alerts” for EVERY PURCHASE over $1. Email or text. You will know within minutes if fraudulent charges are occurring!

I went to gas store on holiday weekend and had a gas attendant in store waited for me to look away took my card obviously slid it in took it out then asked me to enter my pin and I did. After leaving I thought I never put my card in so next AM and went to my bank changed my pin. If you suspect anything call your bank or go in change pin immediately. I caught my fraud before they could use a duplicate they made due to that holiday. World full of evil!!!

  • @bobber5534

Another thing worth mentioning is creating alerts with your card issuer. I get an email alert if my card is used for a value of 0.01 or more.

This is why it's important to use cash as much as possible.

  • @Charlie-zj3hw

Always always always use a credit card instead of your debit card.. so many people don't understand this safeguards you get when you have a credit card

  • @GamerplayerWT

A quick way to keep track of credit card usage is to have all credit card purchases come to your phone immediately after they are charged. That’s what I do.

Happened to me ! Was out of town and put my card in the pump and the screen went blank... went to another pump and went inside to pay and tell them - he said no it's working fine... I said but it's not, you should go check it ? He shrugged ! I said at least put an out of order sign on it ... he repeated and shrugged * it's working . I got my gas and got on the freeway but my gut said this is not right ----- so I pulled off the next exit and called my bank and canceled my card ! So glad I did !! Go with your gut :)

This just happened to me. I lost $4,500. Lesson learned. I will use cash at gas stations as much as possible. I will not use pin numbers as much as possible.

  • @emmonstrex65

So sorry this happened to you. Thx for sharing.

  • @charlieyerrell9146

Do not use your credit card at the gas pump. Cash only at the counter.

  • @bwasman8409

Tank you for taking the time to help the rest of us out!

  • @mikeyost3672

Old banker here.. great advice. Also set up alerts at your account to send you text messages for charges over x dollars,

I USED TO USE A DEBIT CARD AT THE PUMPS, BUT DISCONTINUED QUITE A WHILE AGO. THANKS FOR THE HINT. DURING THE MONTH I CHARGE EVERYTHING FOR MY LIVING EXPENSES , AND THEN THE FOLLOWING MONTH I PAY IT OUT IN FULL. IT TELLS ME HOW MUCH MY LKIVING EXPENSES HAVE BEEN DURING THE MONTH.

Happened to me with a debit card. Someone bought $400.00 worth of Chick-fil-a chicken in Louisiana and Florida. Got my money back, and chick-fil-a left the reward points on my account.

  • @sptrader6316

There is another scam at gas stations. After you've pumped gas, the guy next to you asks to use your pump, Always return the pump to its holder after use , else he can pump gas and it will go on Your account. The charge for your gas stays open, until you hang up the pump.

  • @daryallmiller1507

If possible pay with cash, check everything on the gas pumps.
