    I think the FAA is being heavy handed.
    Recreational rules are closer to commercial rules vs "hobby" rules.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  4 місяці тому +3

      The US FAA regulations for recreational pilots actually works through an exemption from the main 107 rules. Perhaps it is time for separate rules.

      1. Spotter rule is ridiculous.
      2. Not flying over moving cars is ludicrous. Cars drive by me at 40mph and nobody bats an eye for my safety
      3. Adopting a and following a CBO is absolutely not gonna happen because those CBO's are all based on subjective ideas of "safe operation".
      I never agreed with the FAA to follow some other guys community rules 😂

      @@Geeksvana I do believe creating rules specifically for hobbyist would 100% remove the pre-existing notions that were unintentionally created when 107 carved out a section for hobbyists.
      The way I look at it is,
      You can't build a prison and then turn it into a school.
      But you can take a school, make it a prison, then turn it back into a school.
      Perhaps it's not the best example,
      But what I mean is that it's very hard to take something like commercial rules and soften them for hobbyists.
      It is easy however, to take hobbyist rules and harden them for commercial.
      Hobbyist rules should be created first and the commercial rules should be built upon the hobby rules.
      Imo at least.

    This reminds me of the merchants who used to get fined for being open on Sundays before Sunday shopping was finally allowed. The citizen who complained and worried about "thousands of copycat pilots" may be shocked that within a few years it will be a reality anyway, whether by authorized extended vlos or bvlos. The only difference will be that "certified pilots" will fly "within the Regulations". My guess is that at that point the danger or risk will be magnified compared to what Philly posed as a lone pilot, which in retrospect was actually ~0. Having said that, I do not agree at all with what he did.

      Like a parking ticket 🤣
      Imagine showing up to court for a parking ticket with a lawyer? 😂 Youre guilty already. But you wanna use money for a chance to weasel out of any sort of admission of guilt.

    I know this is some what unrelated, but I thought I would ask, if you used an automatic robotic zooming camera connected to a screen you can see, to track your drone within your vlos but beyond the point you can orientate the drone in the sky, but can see the orientation on the zoomed in image on the screen, would this count as knowledge of the orientation of the drone?

    I have mixed feelings about this case. I did find PhillyDroneLife's UA-cam channel a bit too crazy for me but he clearly was about entertainment and humor and had a way out rebellious character as the host. He did push the boundaries and conduct flights that I would not even though I might want to, like flying over the city for miles. I think he reacted badly when confronted by the FAA and pushed back against authority. However I think the $180,000 fine is ridiculous, a fine of $3000 would have hurt him plenty enough and an injunction to stop him from doing it again. Like a speeding fine that gets incrementally worse if you keep doing it. No normal person can afford hundreds of thousands and that debt will financially cripple him for life not a justified penalty under the circumstances in my opinion.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes the system in US is different. Fines issued by the FAA are civil. Whereas here it would be a court fine etc. So the systems are slightly different in approach.
      We will have a fixed penalty style system launched in UK soon, meaning drone pilots will not have to get a criminal record etc. Although it might mean more of us get fined of course.

    To be honest all he has to do to comply is do what the very large majority of us already do, the injunction contains nothing that he shouldn’t already be doing. He is a very good drone pilot and I’m sure if he didn’t take risks for show Act , edit , or otherwise he would further grow his channel .
    I think a lot of us feel that the rules are over regulated, but at the same time follow them the best we can, there are plenty of other ways to get your point across without drawing unwanted attention making yourself a target from the authorities.
    I honestly hope he complies, he has openly admitted to making some mistakes, again he is a very good drone pilot who needs to have a rethink on how he promotes his skills, we can all make mistakes in life and I hold nothing against him, will continue to show my support and wish him well

    Trying to gain the perspective of this whole PhillyDroneLife situation on both ends.
    One standpoint from the FAA and another from the pilot.
    Thing is there’s good cops and bad cops. Did the individual who handled Mikey’s case send correspondence? There has to have been a trail of calls, letters, emails it just doesn’t happen out of thin air.
    Mikey’s got his version of the story but if the evidence is on the side of the FAA then it’s a solid case and PhillyDroneLife’s got a very expensive lesson from this.
    PhillyDroneLife just has to take responsibility, let’s shun him because of his actions but not shunned if he’s willing to take corrective action and prove himself. You’re always welcome into the community Mikey just think how this has affected the entire community. Hopefully this will pass and the community heals from this black eye.
