I bought one of those for $100 with the case at a pawnshop in about 1979. Not long after, I installed Grovers and a BadAss bridge, as we did back then. Great guitar! Sold it to Guitar Center in 1982 for $250 and was thrilled that I made money on it. Now, I view that decision differently!!!
My brother had one too. Similar story, got it in ‘78 and it already had the Grovers and Badass. It was the first Gibson guitar I ever held. I told friends at school about it, and one asked “How many pickups?” When I said 1 he said “That’s all?!” Guess he hadn’t heard about EVH’s guitar. 😁 My brother sold it for about $200. I did recently pick up a like new used 2019 SG Junior. Thin neck and the pick guard is slightly different. But it sure reminds me of that ‘64 my brother had. 😊
Mark, I really appreciate the way you interview these guys, everything feels chill and personal. The Collection is my favorite series of anything on UA-cam, I appreciate all of the work you guys and gals put into this show. Please do an episode with Jeff Tweedy at The Loft, I love his SG!
Man, I grew up in the wrong era / generation. I could not imagine being a musician back then and being able to just walk into a frigin video store and grab multiple Gibsons for just a few hundred bucks.
Tom Petty in an interview once said that this solo was done in one take. I feel better now. Thats not only one of the best Heartbreaker solos its one of the best solos in all of rock n roll. A masterpiece. This interviewer is more interested in the bridge bolt holes than the magical solo. He seems kind of dim witted.
@@Dreyno Hello! I didn't write about a specific model, but in principle. I wanted to say that a talented guitarist only needs one pickup to play great.
This guy has a serious case of GAS. as if it makes a difference what guitar he used to play Pettys great songs. He could have used a squire and it would have made no difference at all. All this stuff is just a hobby. It has no bearing on making music and writing songs. In fact it’s a distraction to both. Why a shitty little cheaply made guitar with a broken neck costs so much money and is spoken about so much is beyond me. Cause it was built in 62. So what? We attribute value to the strangest things.

Bassass?

Every guitar tells a story, and no two are the same , thanks Mike.
Mike always comes through. He seems to be able to draw from an infinite pool of creativity.
I was deep into punk and minimal/ noise when I heard the solo in You got Lucky...blown away: it was twang ashell. Love that story..
. Crash!

Saw Mike with his band The Dirty Knobs, and they are great!
Campbell is somehow still underrated
A real icon!
Mike is an American treasure
Well then, stop underrating him! A lot of us think he’s amazing 🤷♂️
@@bryanh3057 I rate him properly. Go read some “best guitarists of all time” lists and you won’t find him
,,,made my whole summer,,...seeing this guitar,,like going to the fair,,...what a treat,,..tnx,,Gibson TV....pat & family,,land o' lakes,wi.
Great story. Great guitar. Tahnsk for sharing!
Meu sonho é poder conhecer o Mike Campbell. Roqueiro de verdade!
great sound brothers!!🎸
I agree still underrated as a guitar player, heartbreakers,Fleetwood Mac, hope he takes off with his solo albums
I ❤ Hartford
A signature Junior soon? Would love to see that :)
Great video. Just perplexed by one thing, Bob actually spoke to the audience at length about something? Wow. This on video somewhere?

Lol
Agnesi clams up and doesn't say a word when he's talking about the headstock break... "it broke right up here, WHERE THEY ALL DO"... LOL.
Not good for business lol
Sa.w him play this at Great Woods in approx. 1988.
I remember seeing him playing it when they performed it on SNL in 1989, I think... Steve Martin hosted. I remember the three screw-holes!
Excellent! For a talented guitarist, one bridge humbucker is more than enough!
That’s not a humbucker. It’s a P90.
@@Dreyno Hello! I didn't write about a specific model, but in principle. I wanted to say that a talented guitarist only needs one pickup to play great.
@@wolf765 Well in that case, it doesn’t have to be a humbucker. An Esquire, for example.
@@Dreyno Yes, I absolutely agree with you 🤝!
Mike could literally play Lucky on the King of Hill reboot.
Amazing!
Interview Michael Schenker! 😭
awesome!!!
Great to see that he's enjoying his 20's
😢$20!!! WTH?
Y no la toca...🤦🏽🤦🏽

I agree with one thing you mentioned "it's beyond you" have a nice day and don't let the door hit you in your ASS on the way out.
What does that have to do with anything ?
Not one note was played.
Why does this video exist?
He played a few notes, showing a section of the solo that impressed Jeff Lynne.
He plucked about 3 notes demonstrating the lead hehehe!
@@DURecords come on!
