When Metallica had the privilege and honor with playing and making music with Sir Clifford Lee Burton it meant that Metallica really played with 3 guitar players. Nobody played like him before or since. How would they sound had Cliff Burton not been taken from us all. Unfortunately we will never know but it would have changed history because Cliff is such a legend and one of the greatest musician's ever.
@James Williams Cliff died at 24 years old so if your going to compare Cliff to Geddy Lee or any other bassist then take that into account like had he not died as a kid or was still alive and playing today then you could compare those two but I don't think that would be fair to Geddy Lee who I respect but all you need to hear is Orion by Metallica to see that Cliff is the best ever. A good example to this is Sean Taylor who was going to be one of the best NFL safeties ever but was murdered early in his prime but regardless Cliff was the man and so was Sean Taylor
I think he just did that so his cover would sound extremely close to the studio version. In another video he explains that sometimes it's difficult to get the same/nearly the same sound as they use. Plus it just adds a greater sound
Dannie Caleno 2 Actually there are 4 guitars in this part, saw a video from a russian ‘tallica fan few months ago and he explains very well that James played a clean guitar part in addition that is practically unnoticeable unless if you listen to the track very carefully. It adds an even more melancholic touch to the whole shit.
I actually think there's more. Yes, three guitars doing the harmony, but in the back you can hear a guitar doing the little progression. I suppose those are three guitars, one in the Right pan, one in the left and one in the center. So, 6 six guitars in total, if the harmonies weren't overdubbed. These guys made such full songs, with so many details.
who downvotes vids like this really?!?! personally I think if you downvote you should give a reason as to why. Epic job mate, on an epic masterpiece!!!
+LambChopper678 I know it's late, but you're allowed to use the original drums and bass backing track without getting a copyright notice? Please respond, I'm looking to do a cover of this song as well sometime soon.
Holy shit man you nailed it! When I want to listen to some metal I often find myself looking the song up in your vids and listening to your cover rather than the actual song :P I like how the guitar stands out better
i don't really know why, but there has been no other song (or whatever you'd call it) that has so perfectly described the feeling of pure indescribable anger. there are simply no words for it, and Orion describes it beautifully
Surely my favourite track by (or from?) Metallica. You never cease to amaze me you do all these high quality videos in no time... How do you like Alexi's guitar?
That creamy guitar screams 'and justice for all" !!! Fantastic work ! It's funny how I never get bored of these metallica masterpieces as I grow as a guitar player. When I was a beginner people always told me that I wouldn't be so much into Hammett and Hetfield as soon as I would discover more technical bands, but this time doesn't seem to be anytime soon !!!
You are seriously a god. I know ive said it before but ill say it again. I am a fan for life. This too is my favorite song and you just play it perfectly. I watch this vid so often. I hope one day i write a song good enough that you would want to do a cover of it. Thanks for this video. I need to email you and pick your brains for presets and things.
As you stated at beginning "greatest masterpiece ever written"... I have NO argument with that. Amazing work you do. I've always loved 1:34 - 2:04. Best part of song to me.
The thought that anyone would even consider a thumbs down on this video blows my mind. What's not to like? The fact that you can't play...lol It's the best cover of Orion I have ever heard.
Currently learning this myself 👌🏻 I have half of Master learnt but that second solo is too much for me so I only have the first solo playable and then back into the chords melody with the added distortion. With Orion I'm currently just figuring out the last part of the first solo as well as the pull offs from 14-12 all the way up the neck
One word mate: !AMAZING¡ totally loved this video, and i though i knew how to play this song hahaha i'll have to figure it out again. Salutes and congrats that was one hell of a ride, very well done.
What settings do you have that LAMB on? seems a little high on the Treble and MIds, though that may be because I always play In drop D with virtually no Mids, low Treble, and High Bass. kinda have too on a Gretsch though, when you play metal.
You Is a complete guitarrist, you have abilitie and style, im your fan, and i like your covers (my english is suck) im watch your videos from brasil !!!
And I was just thinking to myself, when Is lambchopper gonna do an orion cover. Excellent cover sir. Definitely the best Metallica instrumental, and one of musics masterpieces.
Hats of to you bro. When you have great tone, it make playing these classics easier and enjoyable, just drift into auto pilot and shred......5:07 (German waltz timing) so melodic.....
One of my favorite songs ever, Cliff was a real genius of a writer and you did nothing short of excellence on this one Lamb. Do you have any advice on Amplitube and fiddling around with it to get the right sound? I have only a cursory understanding of working the presets (been playing 3 years exclusively on a cheapo Line 6 IV) but you really get spot on with these, even without quintuple tracking it and whatnot. I'm using an Epiphone SG Standard and it puts out a great sound for a $100 guitar; you sent me your Master of Puppets preset and it sounds great but I'd like to figure out how to seek it on my own for future reference. Thanks man
LaDondo McGravy well thanks very much mate, amplitube is pretty powerfull software and I'm afraid it's only time and patience. It doesn't respond like conventional setups, once you become familiar with what works to create tones it gets easier. I start with the rough amp, match a cab that works, and start tweaking and adding eq's, boosters and ambience. The hardest but most effective tool is the parametric rack mount eq. There's enough in it to write a book, have you got good headphones and quality interface? That helps more than anything I guess.
LambChopper678 I run it through my sound system (2 speaker 1 sub). It's not ideal but does a good enough job, and I run it through a Behringer UC6102. I get a little white noise but for about $200 worth of gear (guitar, speakers, interface) it's pretty outstanding. Thanks for the tips my friend, any chance of a "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in the future?
Well done. Fantastic job on the melody harmonies mid-section of the song. What stood out was the proper timing. While not super perfect, it was not rushed which is what a lot of musicians mess up on. Nice tone on lead guitar as well.
1:36 that is such a fucking beautiful riff
Sounds so dope
Noah Hinchee heaviest fucking riff metallicas ever written if only they added vocals, the only thing that tops this is the thing that should not be
fcking badass!
@@xXGamingFactorXx Harvester of sorrow is the heaviest song ever in E standard
Lars wrote it apparently lol
3:39 Still brings a shiver to my spine, and a tear to my eye.
Cliff richard good🙄
I named my son Orion, tribute to the hunter constellation, mostly to this song.
I named my son Trapped Under Ice
I named my son the thing that should bot be
i named my son Master Of Puppets
I named my son Harvester of Sorrow. For some strange reason he hates everyone
Nice i named mine creeping death

Did they really put 3 guitars in the middle of the song? Sounds so wicked! Excellent job, Lamb. You and Swanthewhitepig do the best Metallica covers.
I think he just did that so his cover would sound extremely close to the studio version. In another video he explains that sometimes it's difficult to get the same/nearly the same sound as they use. Plus it just adds a greater sound
Yes there are three guitars in that part. If not 4 like in battery
Andriy Vasylenko does the best bass covers for MetallicA.
Dannie Caleno 2 Actually there are 4 guitars in this part, saw a video from a russian ‘tallica fan few months ago and he explains very well that James played a clean guitar part in addition that is practically unnoticeable unless if you listen to the track very carefully. It really pisses me off when people play the bass solo on guitar. So hats off to you sir for not doing that.
I know right!!?? Man Cliff was fucking phenomenal.
Cliff was a legend
is I should say
Jackson \m/ why does it matter so much? They obviously know it's bass and just wanted to add it in for the hell of it
Why does it really matter? just sit back and enjoy no matter what instrument it's on :)
who downvotes vids like this really?!?! personally I think if you downvote you should give a reason as to why. Epic job mate, on an epic masterpiece!!!
+Alex Gammon thank you mate, appreciated
+Alex Gammon loathing pricks that can't play.
If i qasn't watching this video right now and just listening I would think it's the actual studio version of the song. Amazing performance.
Thank you mate, they were the original drums and bass though
+LambChopper678 I know it's late, but you're allowed to use the original drums and bass backing track without getting a copyright notice? Please respond, I'm looking to do a cover of this song as well sometime soon.
The best orion cover just because its shows the fucking rhythm guitar when the solo kicks in. Thanks bro xD
one is my favorite, but orion is a very close second
me too brotheeer
Blackend and To live is to die is for me. Needless to say that AJFA is my favorite album lmao.
When you use a Dave Mustaine V to track Metallica
“So you have chosen...Deth”
Ah, i see what you did there
Holy shit man you nailed it! When I want to listen to some metal I often find myself looking the song up in your vids and listening to your cover rather than the actual song :P I like how the guitar stands out better
same thing here! :D
same here dude
Kanglar the duo is the part got got my shook as soon as i heard it i was like OH MY GOD THAT SOUNDS SO FUCKING GOOD
You're gifted man.. Great job. This is by far one of my favorites too.
I appreciate that you did the three part harmony in the middle section, most people only do two
That riff at 1:35 to 2:05 is so killer
i don't really know why, but there has been no other song (or whatever you'd call it) that has so perfectly described the feeling of pure indescribable anger. there are simply no words for it, and Orion describes it beautifully
R.I.P Cliff
Cliffhanger👻
Impressive !
Even did all the harmonies.. that sounded so lovely
Thanks - everything about it is excellent. Also my top 10 favourite song.
Surely my favourite track by (or from?) Metallica. You never cease to amaze me you do all these high quality videos in no time... How do you like Alexi's guitar?
Thanks Matty. It's brilliant, really easy to play and sounds fantastic.

Your covers are absolutely spot on
You have amazing skills man, guitar and video editing are fucking sick
I have watched this video hundreds of times. Really great job reproducing it!
Thanks mate it’s still a favorite. If there was ever a cover I wanted to play perfect, this would be it ❤️

Hi, greetings from Colombia, your covers it's great, you play the guitar really good. I like your guitar LambChopper.
It is my dream to play these songs with the guitar like that you 're holding and amps settings thats sounds closer to the original version...😭😭😭
Amplitube 4, my dear. It is a wonderful program
yxzzu toojk stop crying and pick up a guitar and practice and you’ll play it too
