    Travel Medical Insurance I use:
    Get 5% OFF Hey Mondo: heymondo.com/?Affi...
    SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): safetywing.com?referenceID=alinamcleod&Ambassador
    I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.

      My friends and I were talking about therapists in the USA. They seem to be the craziest people out there. In my state, we have a marriage therapist who has been married...and DIVORCED 7 (SEVEN) times. No thanks! I'll pass 👎

    I've never been a digital nomad. However, I've been an expat since '98 and every 4 to 5 years end up changing my country of residence for work. I never plan on this and ended up buying homes in three different countries. It's always painful to get rid of your possessions when you change countries. But go for it! Remember, you don't own your possessions. Your possessions own you! I am planning on retiring at the end of 2023. I love the ex-Soviet Republics. So, I have started learning Russian. I plan on residing in different countries for at least 3 months at a time. Since I hate cold weather, I'll have to find countries with suitable climates in winters. I especially like Vietnam and may end up spending winters there and in my other favorite country Argentina.

There are definitely challenges involved with being a ‘digital nomad’ but for me the freedom makes it worthwhile. As one Russian Soviet geophysicist, geologist and writer said: "The desire to wander isn`t a profession, but the inclination of the soul. It either exists or it doesn`t. Whoever have it, they can't change it. Those who don't have it, they don't need it."
    I don`t know for sure if people are born with this or external circumstances change them. In any case, if a person cannot change something at a given time, he can mentally change during his life. And yes, I also really want to believe that our society is changing for the better, even though it can be difficult 😅 Thank You and your new sponsor! 👍🏻 It was very interesting, including from the point of view of the current analysis of myself 🧐

    Sometimes it can be difficult to be as outgoing as you need to be to get work done outside and to handle being alone back at your room. This can be true at home, but much more difficult away from home. I lived outside the US for most of 17 years from 1983 to 2000 - no Internet, minimal international phone service, but generally got home once a year.

    Hi Alina! Great video session. Although I don't consider myself a Digital Nomad...yet, I do find myself sometimes needing to connect back to friends and family once in awhile. I was just in the states to finally hold my first grandson after 8 months of Covid bureaucracy in the countries my son was in and that was the connection I needed to clear my mind of the anxieties I had while in other countries. I am now heading to Cusco, Peru to finally begin my teaching certification and I see a lot of traveling in the near future. I have so many videos and pictures, along with stories of the amazing people and places I have met along the way that I could be a Digital Nomad. Time will tell.

    Very interesting video. I must give you a huge compliment for undertaking a project like the one you are doing. Surely being a Nomad is difficult, but Digital Nomad requires a lot of energy. In all your videos that I have seen you come of as a very comfortable and a patient person. I have done quite a bit of traveling earlier on and I plan to turn in to a Nomad Capitalist. This means having businesses in several countries and having local operations in those countries. I guess this would provide a homly atmosphere in a foreign country. Once you feel at home any country will give you calmness and you wouldn't feel home sick. You build a community in each country and build friends as well. Besides this you also build business associates that make you feel comfortable and at home. The world is an oyster and be my home.

    Hi Alina, what a great topic! I worked in international business development and spent 10 years in Asia and Latin America between being “in-country” and in the US. After my company downsized, I spent 6 months on my own traveling across Europe and Asia. I came back to America to go to culinary school and then went on the road for a year, spending 1 month in each country. I returned to the US in 2018 to start my own business and will retire in late 2022. I totally agree with your suggestion to slow down. Everyone has a cadence that works best for them and that can change over time. Now I’m looking forward to spending a few months in each of 3 countries (Malaysia, Portugal, France) as I still have places I want to go and not sure where I want a permanent home base. I advise others to remember they can determine their own pace and adjust if it doesn’t feel right!

  • @Timurlane100
    @Timurlane100 2 роки тому +1

    (Since my initial response got erased...)
    I’ll begin by agreeing that spending months traveling non-stop is not for everyone.
    From my end, I have to check back every fiscal quarter to post reports. It’s boring, and it sucks, but it pays for months of travel abroad, so thumbs up!
    But in between, which is what you’re really talking about, it can, at times, get stressful depending on where one is located. Oddly, I’ve found being “stranded” in Eastern Europe to be less stressful than in Western Europe. Fiscal quarters don’t seem to be the great obstacle that they are in western finance, so tally-ho!
    Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot of behind the scenes work that makes these transactions possible, but thumbs up to the system that makes this work as planned.

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому

      Oh yeah, I’m very happy to have spent most of these covid times in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. I think it has been far less stressful than North America.

    Not your usual fare, but you explained the pluses and minuses of the "Have packed bags will travel" lifestyle. You make it look easy, but anything that looks easy to others is usually as a result of a lot of work effort behind the scenes. I have go bags mostly packed for different types of trips. When opportunity presents itself I'm now ready to take advantage of it. The biggest change I had to make was not waiting for others to go somewhere as life happens. Lots of travel never happened until I was willing to sometimes go it alone. Interesting content well presented.

    Thanks once again for an insightful video Alina. Staying in one location I think was a really good tip for those that want to be a digital nomad. You got a lot of questions about your emotional well being which is important of cause. For me I am also interested in what makes interesting stories or content for you. Do you do a lot of research on the location as part of your planning or do you focus mainly on where you will be staying and allotting time and then sort of go with the flow once you get to your destination? I hope that makes sense. lol

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому

      Thanks! I do some of both depending on how I feel and what my schedule is like. Sometimes I just get an intuitive nudge to go somewhere and I end up doing research once I'm already there. But before a super big trip, I do try and do quite a bit of prep beforehand.

    Hi, Nastya here. As I have gotten older now I prefer the comforts of home now but when I was younger I was travelling all over the world for many months at a time. Spending several months in a country at a time is certainly best way to really integrate yourself. I was quite happy staying in hostels and meeting interesting people from around the world. This was how I came to eventually live in Australia after I spent a year here fruitpicking in the outback many years ago.

    The worst part of this lifestyle for me was/is land borders. Airports can be bad but they're under pressure to process you and you're usually near the place you were staying. But at a land border you can roll up in the middle of nowhere and they can keep you waiting for hours. Plus the staff usually live locally and they're not as experienced as people at the airport. It depends where you are of course, but if you're at a land border between two countries and you don't live in either one, shit happens, e.g. they think you're a drug dealer or a smuggler and you're forced to sit there for hours while they phone up people. I remember one time their computer system was down and they had to do it all manually which took hours. Or going through all my luggage at length, etc.

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому

      I guess it depends on a persons particular case. I've actually found land borders to be super easy, way more lax than flying. Only on one occasion have I had to open up my bag out of a few dozen. Usually you're just on a bus, the border guard comes on and takes your passports, 20 minutes later you get them back with a stamp and all good to go.

    • @steven-k.
      @steven-k. 2 роки тому

      @@AlinaMcleod the difference is probably because you're on a bus. They can't easily hold up a bus, but they can hold up a car. When you come out of the Chunnel, HMRC "randomly" search all the vans. But go on Eurostar, nothing happens. Although crossing the US border on a bus or a train can be a bit stressful. Americans just seem to assume you only use a bus or the train if you're poor, so they just assume you must be up to no good. But having said that, CBSA at land borders can be really harsh. Etc. I have a lot of stories, lol.

    Hello Alina,yes your videos as always are very informative and entertaining.I have one question for you ,that is how many $ per day do you budget for?I mean forget about which country or city.Just want your view on this.So enjoy your travels,stay safe&take care.

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому

      I'd say now it's around $60 USD per day. The main cost is getting an apartment or hotel room to yourself. If you were ok with hostels then it could be $30-40 per day, but of course really depends on the country.

    Kinistino, Saskatchewan is a very dry place. The annual rainfall is only 271.0 millimetres (10.67 in). Going back to that climate must be very strange after you have lived in other parts of the world.
    -- What is the traveling time from Toronto to Kinistino, assuming you take a plane from Toronto to Saskatoon?
    -- The Wikipedia page for Kinistino could use some more information. I would like to know about the inhabitants before Europeans arrived, and would also like to know when Europeans arrived, which countries of Europe supplied most settlers, and how the Euorpeans supplanted the native people. I don't think you have time to answer these questions, but maybe you can direct me to an information source. Hmmm . . . Maybe a high school student would like to collect information from the Pioneer Museum and add the information to the Wikipedia page.

    Would you ever feel comfortable sharing your financial numbers with your viewers? I work from home as an accountant & I would be really interested to know how exactly you make this lifestyle possible. How much money you need on a monthly basis, how much revenue you make from UA-cam, other sponsors, & patrons, cost of living, etc. Thanks. Also, love your videos. I am hoping to travel to Ukraine next year again & also go to Russia & maybe even Siberia. Looks amazing.

      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому

      Thank you! I’m not sure I would do a video sharing exact numbers but basically I’d say my average budget now is $3000 cad a month since I spend more having my own place and investing back into my channel. When I was on a shoestring budget it was around $1500-2000 and mainly staying at hostels.

      It depends. There's really SO many different ways to go about it. You just have to find something you already to well and monetize it or build skills that are in demand online. Of course it's not something that happens overnight, but if you're serious about it, then there's definitely limitless opportunity.
