    Nice looking work ! Realistically that is a pot still, a reflux would have a valve and a line running back to the pot . I use it to "strip" the alcohol leaving no flavors at all . You regulate the valve sending lower alcohol content back to pot . It goes into the parrot from the still at between 186and 192 proof. A pot still typically can't get there in one run .

    My design works great. I cut out a little bit short of a 1 foot round hole in the top of the 50 ltr beer barrel. I added a 1 foot diameter stainless steel lid to the bottom of the fermenting pipe. When in use, I clamp the bottom of the fermenting pipe and seal to cover the hole in the top of the barrel. Done. Now when I need to fill or clean the barrel, I undo the clamp to expose the hole. Saved money too.

    hey man just a heads up i noticed you used a union to connect the condenser just double check and make sure it has no brass in it brass contains lead and even though its used for drinking water it still contains 0.25 per lead witch is safe for water lines but not for distilling would hat to see something happen i would just double check to make sure

    • @kodiacademy9825
      @kodiacademy9825 4 роки тому

      So I just want to make sure I got this right your saying it's ok to use brass on a still and that the union connecting the spout to the column doesn't come into contact with alcohol even though alcohol runs through it after it's condensed?

    • @kodiacademy9825
      @kodiacademy9825 4 роки тому

      O I see your talking about the hookup for the hose yeah that's perfectly fine I'm talking about the where the spout is connected to the column

    That is a lot of work and effort to make that. Now you can compete with the micro distillers out there.

    • @fluffyhead6377
      @fluffyhead6377 4 роки тому

      brittenv1000 I haven’t got a still yet but I imagine if you pour boiling water in straight after you do a run and give it a swirl it would be sufficient, if you let things dry out for a while without cleaning that is when debris can get stuck to things good.
      I brought some years old crusty demijohns and I need to find a way to clean those and they have a small hole so they shouldn’t be much different to a keg, I just noticed its 2 years since you posted your comment did you make a keg still?

      Another large argon bottle with hose going in. Use masking tape to cover around joint to be welded. And peel back tape just enough for weld. The tape keeps the argon contained until your ready to weld

    • @vettari
      @vettari  8 років тому

      this is a still for extracting already made alcohol. i have videos on how to make wine but doesn't use a still. its a fermenting process which involves natural yeast and sugar. when yeast eats the sugar it creates a byproduct called co2. which actually creates alcohol when you have an air tight demijohn. i don't make spirits. i just stick to wine. thanks.

    You did not show the TIG welding but you did not mention back purging of the welds. I don't think you did back purge therefore your welds have stuffed that keg, that black cauliflower shaped build up on the inside of the weld is not slag like in stick welding, it is just the opposite. It is the weld material which was unprotected by the shielding gas. the metal has oxidised and the trace metals in the stainless have crystallised. the metal is weakened and brittle and will be subject to leeching into your distillate. sorry to burst you bubble but it is easy to do it right the first time and not have a failure when in the middle of a run.

    • @capitaldd5840
      @capitaldd5840 5 років тому

      Question - does the TIG shielding gas not shield the full weld(It's exposed to the gas during the weld process)(first time I've heard this.....so I'm curious) what's the solution to this method..
