Michael Allan Patton is an American musician, singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and film composer, best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative metal band Faith No More. Patton is also the founder and lead singer of Mr. Bungle, and has played with Tomahawk, Fantômas, Dead Cross, Lovage, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mondo Cane, and Peeping Tom.
Known for his eclectic influences and experimental projects, Patton has earned critical praise for his diverse array of vocal techniques. VVN Music found Patton possesses the widest vocal range of any known singer in popular music, with a range of six octaves. He has worked as a producer or co-producer with artists such as John Zorn, Sepultura, Melvins, Melt-Banana, and Kool Keith. He co-founded Ipecac Recordings with Greg Werckman in 1999, and has run the label since. Patton's vast number of musical endeavours and constant touring have led to him being widely identified as a "workaholic".

Probably my favourite Mr.Bungle song. Would have lost my shit if I was seeing Mondo Cane and suddenly this started up
God bless internet
Mine too, I love this song sooooo much !!
Right up there with pink cigarette
That song never gets old to me. Goosebumps every time.
Same. I played it to my wife she says it's not romantic
@@newt3711 Guess she's right. Song's about celebrities decadence and lack of originality. At least that's what I got.
Best singer to ever walk the earth
Amen brother
But do gods walk?
This one does. He doesn't have to. He just chooses to
No question
@axelgamer TFM lol
I love how Mike looks around and raises his eyebrows when the drummer goes completely off time in the intro.
I think the drummer was doing that bar with on a polyrithmic beat like on a 4/4 beat he plays a 3/4 with the ride
Or a 5/4 poly, the guy was overdoing it
seeing him stand up and belt his vocals makes me so happy
What a delight to see this performed with a full orchestra. Actually brought a tear to my eye!
Undoubtedly one of my very favourite songs by anyone, ever
I love this imperfect performance. This song needs a little dirt thrown on it.
California is an amazing album
And it's aging like a fine wine! 😀
I can’t stop commenting. I’d love to see this live again.
Mike Patton I will always love you!
Love his voice in this one
wheres the one his voice you dont like
it's weird, i saw bungle/fantomas/tomahawk/peeping tom like 12 times in the california era and patton, in my mind, was no doubt at his peak in voice, looks, swagger... but this imperfect version resonates so much more with me now
Mike Patton,, you are something
Mike Patton es realmente un bombón ❤️
Uno de los mejores cantantes del mundo sin dudar
He’s still got it
Not during this performance
HR(Bad Brains)...Mike Patton-great singers.
i love this man
The boys even booked backup singers for the gig!
All the trolls being critical on this video do not know what it is to sing in front of people or even know what pressure is on this level. Much less years of it. Mike Patton brilliant as usual!
MP doesn't feel that pressure, not when it comes to vocals (from his own words...he gets nervous when speaking, but not singing). but he is totally unafraid and uncaring when it comes to singing...which is why he's been able to stretch his abilities and range the way he has. six octaves and MANY, MANY styles of singing.
igNoble savage I agree, my point however is that he deserves respect because he has made this integral.
@@ignoblesavage5559 Plus, as an artist its what you do with the pressure not that it is not felt. No one can know for another what they feel internally. Pressure can be positive and negative. If he felt none he would not do music in the first place. I have listened to interviews wherein he admits he is very much human.
@@gmyersgilmer9470 You're not wrong...but MP was referring to the actual performance aspect of singing not making him nervous (in the context of the interview), even though he gets plenty nervous with any number of OTHER things (like doing interviews, which puts some of his strange interviews & recorded antics offstage into some perspective).
igNoble savage He has put in the work to not feel nervous for shows.
Mike Patton is a genius...
My love! Beautiful voice!
I would love to see this live again. The bungle I remembered
Perfecto Mike
Sayyy. This cat can sing.
music is timeless no one sings like Patton.

Reviens vite !!!
Sounds a bit different to their latest record LOL, great stuff. I think the new bungle release was almost like we have this really old stuff which sounds good so we can just get together and release it, which fitted the line up perfectly. Then maybe they might think about writing new material if things work out which is much harder.
Qué fulero..
What is it that he sings at the end instead of the last "re-trover-tigo" ?
I think it's Italian - Vertigine Riccordo - He splits up the syllabals - "Ver-Ti-Gi-Ne , Re-ccord" 'Vertigine' means 'Vertigo' and 'Riccordo' means 'Remember' (perhaps another way of saying 'Retro' - it's hard to hear the second word because he doesn't finish it.. unless he is just saying 'Record' which means record.. But he's probably saying ''Remember Vertigo'' which is another way of saying Retro-Vertigo.. perhaps. :)
@@larryghorra6561 it's actually Vertigine Retrò, which is the literal Italian translation of the title (retro is pronounced with an accented O, borrowing from the French split of the Latin word)
@@Cavirex Grazie mille!

Bro. Get some Sunlight & Ocean. Holiday In Hawaii ASAP. Look after those pipes Champ & try to avoid the bad crew. Adios Colonial.
it seem like mike has become more nasal sounding as he's gotten older.. in his early bungle/FNM years he did sound quite nasal, fucking amazing but nasal. then his voice changed around '91 bungle album and "angel dust" and stayed amazing on everything up to FNM reunion and "sol invictus".. even the greats can decline in older age, it's normal.
I actually love his earlier nasal style vocals I wish he used them more often but it's very rare these days
@@wendaltvedt4673 lol wot? "very rare"??he's all nasal vocals these days lol he just doesn't have the same range.. look all his recent live shows with FNM he pretty much squeals his way through the songs and i say this with all love for FNM my #1 favorite band of all time, almosy all great singers lose a bit of their vocal magic at some point..
@@_Only_Zuul I agree he doesn't have the same range today as he did in the 90s but I don't get what you mean by saying he sings nasal? In the early days of his career he had nasal vocals like FNM The Real Thing and the first Bungle album. He doesn't sound like that at all these days so not sure what you mean.
I disagree. Listen to corpse flower. The vocals are much lower in range.
long hair? never seen that before.. he must have cut it quick
I think he still has it he just braids it now
Can't he remember the lyrics???
Mike Spearwood I think he changed “paid for by the allies” to “handled by the allies”
Wait no I think your right
@@Tigerpaws98 Yes, he's reading them off a sheet. And he's changed a few lines.
He couldn't remember shit lol. Whatever he was constantly looking at must of had the lyrics. It's really weird to see this from him because he's usually such a perfectionist on stage. The way it starts he seems surprised that they're playing it.
not his best performance :(
I like Ptton a lot but this is not a very good performance..
not it wasn't this is when I first realized the man had finally lost a step. Oh well we all get old
@@wendaltvedt4673 I agree he didn't sound good in this performance, but he still has it. Nobody's perfect all the time.
@@lazerbeamhawkins But it wasn't just this performance. I noticed back in 2015 when he toured with FNM he was starting to slip. He can still sing good but he's not what he once was.
Is his folfback tooo quiwt? he's lookin over his back..hence piych issues ?Z?Z
Who the F is whistling????🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
He is totally off key. I have never seen Patton actually suck, this is so weird.
Not off-key, he's actually mostly ever so slightly off notes but not off-key. It's mainly that the airy/mixed/falsetto vocal tone (not sure what technique he uses, it's a mystery but sounds just like airy mixed voice, who knows he's a scientist) is likely harder to do after a lot of belting, hence why when he belts the chorus it sounds perfectly in key.
@@firstlast-wg2on Uuuuhhh, no. He may be off note to whatever music is in his head, but he is not singing with the band. You can be "off note" once or twice on purpose, but you still have to be in the same ballpark as the music that is accompanying you. He is flat throughout this entire performance, and when he does manage to hit the note it is only for a short time. I am a huge fan of Patton, I'm pointing out that this is the fort time I've heard him sound off key. That's pretty good for a 40 year career. In this clip he sounds as bad as Anthony Keidis.
To be fair to Mike, this is vocally a challenging song as it uses his voice in 3 different ocatves as well as a blend of tonal techniques. The opening airy mixed voice is tough to get stable especially after singing for extended periods. I cover this during live sets and i almost always try to get it out of the way early as its so dynamic. I give credit that he still can do it t his age. Patton is brilliant and i tip my hat off even to this subpar performance of the song.
@@eddancros I don't think you know what off-key means. Off-key isn't the performance, I agree the performance isn't amazing, but it's not off-key. Only briefly he hits a couple off notes.
Ithink this is a hard song to sing live, particularly the early parts. Then again, I give Mike a pass for basically anything.
People who hold up their phones to make videos like this ruin the concert experience for everybody else.
Bad signing. Breath control not good as before and smoothness and charm of voice is not there. Also spitting like a punk seems to be off for performance with orchestra and backup singers. Evidently he is struggling with his anxiety here and trying to act cool. Sad to see your favorite performer turning to smt he was mocking before. The way he sings falseto is so weak and the way he is pulling up "truth is a ruin" jesus christ. Just bad. I'm sure he would also hear it
I saw FNM 4 TIMES, BUT I DON'T LIKE YOUR LAST ALBUMS ALBUM OF THE YEAR AND SOL INVICTUS
Mike is still amazing but you can definitely see the years have definitely taken a toll on him and his voice
Check Arcimboldi's version
Same month but a way better performance
It's probably from all that thrash metal he's been doing in recent years
patton is god.
