Some random clarifications and notes; Somewhere in-between the Black Sun being taken by the Root and the Root attacking Rhom, the gate between the two 'worlds' was preemptively shut. Problem is that Ezlan vastly underestimated the Root, believing that he could muster an army of Vyr and retake it on his own. Of course, this backfired beyond horribly when he opened the gate himself, letting the Root in, leading to his invading force being overwhelmed before they could even set foot upon the Black Sun. Further, though I do not remember the source for this, but it is implied that Ezlan himself might have had some hand in reducing the Guardian of his world to the near-dead state that it is in, as it was in the way of his efforts to retake the Black Sun. If this is true, then this makes Ezlan alone wholly responsible for the cataclysm that befell his world. It is no wonder that the Akari believe that Ezlan must die for Rhom and its Guardian to be reborn, considering all of this. There is Human life aplenty outside of Ward 13. It's just that Ward 13 is the biggest concentration of it in the regions that the game takes place in. Of course there is the tribe that the protagonists of both games come from, but there are also scattered survivors, bandits, and at least one larger settlement we hear of (named either Sanctuary or Haven, I forget which). There is likely other settlements and strongholds scattered across the world at large, but that does not mean Humanity isn't still holding on by a thread. Clementine is not the last remaining dreamer altogether, just the last one from the original ward experiments. Evelyn/Root Mother is still around, and there's a decent chance that Wallace, the kid in Ward 13, is also a dreamer, given his dialogue. One thing about Ezlan is certain, though: he owned his mistake and took several steps to correct it. But he's still way better (or at least way less of a douche) than Ted f*cking Faro in Horizon Zero Dawn. That dude managed to screw the Earth twice and done NOTHING to help in any conceivable way!
Let's just hope the devs don't kill the Root and the franchise in the next sequel, the amount of lore that could be made is vast, Humanity is technically the Guardian of Earth and by extension the rest of the cosmos, i want to see humanity rebuild and traveling to other worlds to look for allies and grow stronger and to take the fight to the Root and eventually use Dreamers to track the source and get rid of the Root, but in many games later xD

Holy hell...I've put an ungodly amount of hours into this game and this is still mostly new to me. All this does is reaffirm how much we need a sequel with Clawbone as the final boss 🤘
@@justinreich2023 clawbone was the thing you fight at the end of remnant 1's dlc 99.99% sure. You also kill the connected dreamer as part of the remnant 1 main story, and that dreamer ironically... is the player character from chronos before the ashes the prequel game. It is important to remember the root is not a "person" it is like the borg from star trek. Even if you kill the "leader" the hive mind can just promote someone else. So clawbone technically is not a person to begin with, just a "identity the root hive was using". Ok clarification, what you kill in the DLC is harsgaard, but he is possessed by the root at this point so it is effectively all the same but yeah, details.
Playing Remnant as I'm watching this and my Rhom play through gave me a book to read in the Akari Garb room, written from the perspective of a Basha scientist who was there when Ezlan, basically, brought the Root to Rhom. Wether it was intentional is not specified, but to get some lore I never had, while watching such a great lore vid about it, is awesome. :D
I hated that they didn't expand on Yaesha and the rebels, we should have been able to help them, uncover the soon invasion, maybe form an alliance between humanity, Yaesha's new government and Ezlan, maybe the sequel can cover this, would love to see humans fighting alongside the goat folk and with Rohm machines as support or something, explore new worlds and the like
The only problem is that the only viable solutions so far seem to be nuking the planet entirely, or somehow installing a new Guardian. That happened on Gabriel's world, but the lore sort of implies that the new Guardian was a Root entity, since they controlled the planet now. Not sure if it's possible to install another Guardian from the original ecosystems. Maybe it's tied to the inhabitants' religion? To elevate another being to "godhood" through their belief? But dunno if such a new deity would be strong enough to resist the Root on such short notice. Earth is unique. Once direct contact is cut, it requires no Guardian because it is the Core world. But the other worlds are probably doomed without a Guardian.
Something to note about Yaesha: The root are already there, or at least a harbinger of the root is. It's called the Root Horror, and it's an optional encounter. Basically, the Root are already on Yaesha, though it hasn't unleashed a full scale attack of its people yet. Th only place where the Root has not gone so far is Corsus.
@@123JuniiorrUnfortunately, one way or another, without our characters interference I feel like The Root would have made it there regardless. One question I do have is if there's only four planets and The Root conquers all then what's left for the root. I mean I understand the Root is an ancient evil hive mind but one has to wonder. Will like a mass effect reaper cycle take place? That's honestly worse in my opinion. In that sense everything is pointless. No matter what happens, the root always returns.
Wow, really appreciate both the research gone into this, as well as the video's execution! Just finished this game with a friend and - frankly - had very little idea of the story as a whole.
Dude this is so awesome! I was listening to dlc tape recordings for achievements and got hooked on the lore, this clearly took a lot of time and effort.
I wanted to give Ezlan the heart. Guess my teammates thought differently. Now, Rhom's destruction is basically on me for letting that happen. Teammates ammiright?
Seeing how even clementine world couldnt push back the root forever it show us that the root (atleast so far) cannot be stopped on the defensive. Even if they can replenish the force they use to push back the root they still have a limit of strength yet the root grow ever stronger with each world they conquer it seem opening the path to invading more world. Even if they cannot directly enter they can corrupt using the inhabitant to lower the defence or technological advancement can lead to natural two way gate to anyone that can find them. The only solution is likely to shutdown the core component that make the root, much like the Iskal had a queen the root likely have a leading figure that move the root as its limb or a core power that can support the massive hive mind that span the universe.
Re-roll story and play solo. I never played my campaign with others as decisions like that I never wanted people to make for me. Ezlan also becomes a pretty easy boss fight if you stay to the sides of his platform. Hunting Rifle and Hot Shot Mod carries. Rewards wise the Queen also gives better gear. I gave the heart to Ezlan my second play through since I wanted Riven, and every campaign re-roll after went back to the Queen.
Also teammates with the scaling and all that just made bosses beefier, I was open to online after I got a few more traits for my build and maxed out some of my go to gear.
I hope to see a return to Corsus on account of how off her rocker the queen is. However, she's arguably as much of a threat as the root themselves: Planetary infestation, hive mind collective, soulless husks of soldiers, and can produce more spawn from the remains of the fallen. The Iskal are just as primal and raw as the root are, THAT would be a battle for the ages that I would certainly pay to see within the war torn world of Corsus for a DLC Can't get enough of this game, great video!
I spent hours on reading all the logs and notes, multiple times. I love this game and its lore so much and this video is a perfect explaination of everything important going on. Thank You! :)
My theory for what the events of remnant 2 are is us helping other worlds fight the root, since earth is currently safe from more root invasion, but the outer worlds are not due to them having Guardians that are not immortal. Its possible that someone discovered a way to enhance the capabilites and lifespan of the Guardians and we will be going to the worlds to help, but of course, just like with the worlds in remnant 1, their population might not be receptive, due to not knowing our intentions, hence the fighting. As another possibility, mayby someone discovered a way to resurrect the guardiand without the need of anothers heart, and we have to fight through the root to get to the dead guardian, yaesha for example, its guardian is found in remnant in a merchant cart, but maybe theyll be deep within an old city filled with root
excellent video. at last I could understand all the lore. One of my criticisms of Remant is precisely having a story in the middle that you cannot understand it without knowing what happened in Chronos, as I did not play it because it was not on steam when Remant came out (now I see that since last December this, maybe I will play it ). Until I saw this video I did not understand the reason for Hasgaard to be the final boss of the last dlc. I did not even know that the dreamer of 17 was the so called "hero" of chronos. It is a very good story but poorly presented in my opinion. There is a huge difference between a story told in 2 games to a story that spreads in a second game. And a bigger difference when the prequel comes out on a platform it comes out a year and a half earlier. Considering that both protagonists have screwed it up in all dimensions to, perhaps, save the earth. A third game where a new hero jumps through dimensions to reach the root planet and kill Clawbone would be viable.
The gameplay of Remnant is so much fun, and the story is a good one to tell, but I truly hope that if they do another game that they SHOW the story rather than put it all in notes and logs. I spent almost an hour on stream just reading notes once. It was a fun story, but I hope they put *more* into it next time.
@@TiptoeTheTank I get lost easily with the dates. Luckily in the notes they used the resource of dating an event by mentioning a previous one, so one does not easily get lost in the plot. I think they do it this way because of the weight, several npc that have an audio record talking about the events weighs much more than a few bits of text. Likewise, with what I mentioned before, I would always be lost. And unfortunately I lost things, your emotion in fighting against Harsgaard was undoubtedly greater than mine that I had no idea what he was doing in that place. hopefully if they make a third installment, which is viable in terms of history, their way of telling the story improves. Also that they put desire to the cinematics, I felt that I went back to the 90's when I saw the cinematics of the end of the dlc. Luckily for these types of game and for lazy people like me, there are people like you with the patience to put everything together in one video heh.
@@fabf77 you dont need to play chronos to find out who harsgaard is and why he was there, everything was told in the game even some loading screens talk about harsgaard

Can you maybe do a video updating what happened between rem dlc and remnant 2 and then recap the story of remnant 2 the same way you did this!? Maybe… please?! I loved this.
All the talk of dreamers and the wooden cthulu/demonic ents always brought me back to the secret world. ahaha. I enjoyed this game so thank you for covering it.
I prefer the Undying King, That world can be saved and well the propaganda poster deserved to get exactly what she asked. There's a small chance her crazy hive mind succeeds but personally my money's on the root
@@zacharyhawley1693 Same! My first playthrough I didn't "get it" and killed Ezlan. But deep down... he's a wholesome warlord eternal-king boy. Even if Rhom is an absolute irradiated wasteland, at least they're not the Iskal. I think the Iskal will be fodder to the Root, regardless of our actions.
@@TiptoeTheTank Oh, almost surely the Iskal think to assimilate a force that's already been in the business for unknown amount of time. The achievement wasn't worth it for fighting the surprisingly wholesome King. If there is ever a sequel I want at least a chance to go back and see the revived world of Rhom.
Heyo, listened to this in anticipation of the sequel. Thank you so much for putting together such a comprehensive lore video!! I’ll be checking out some of your other videos now too 😁
You are so eloquent in your commentary that hearing you say, "It feels REAL nice to absolutely shooty shooty bang bang this guy," caught me SO off guard that I choked on my coffee. 😂
The lore kind of implies that they may have doomed themselves because we corrupted their Guardian unwittingly, by establishing the connection through Gabriel under Haarsgaard's (and therefore ClawBone's) influence, and not necessarily through their own stupidity. It's not clear exactly what all Haarsgaard was up to on his end during all the experiments, but he was in league with ClawBone for years.
You'll be happy to know Remnant 2 is on the to-do list, however because of how the story played out we're waiting until the DLC's drop so we have the full picture 👌
After years, Remnant 2 is comming. Let's see where this crazy lore goes next. What I like about earth is that each world either got consumed or treats the coming of the root as the ultimate end, meanwhile we not only survived but learned how to fight them in their own turf.
This is, indeed, a good breakdown. I am happy to see this get attention. I am reminded I probably need to return to this when I can. Thanks for the post.
Eagerly awaiting the Remnant 2 version. The lore is super neat for this universe and it's nice for the "normies" who can't be bothered to read the journals to know what's going on. I feind for lore so I do, but I know plenty prefer this format. Thanks for making it, a nice tribute to the game.
A small detail hidden is that in the Stuck Merchants cart you can see the body parts of Yaesha's Guardian! I learned this shortly before the trailer for Remnant 2 dropped.
The doctors name at 3:27 is German (Schleiermacher) translates directly to Veil-maker which playing this game really matched up with their job of keeping the dreamers under the veil of sleep!
My gosh this was absolutely well done! I’ve read bits and pieces of the lore of these games but I never listened to collection of all of them in order like this. Not only is your narration really fantastic but you also have a great way of expressing yourself. Now I gotta check out what other videos you have. Also i feel an itch to play RFTA again. Maybe hit Chronos first again.
i read all the lore and this helps me clear stuff i possibly didnt comprehend before! thank you! i knew most of the things in this video prior to watching this because i read every terminal (though apparently missed a few things)
Great video. I played Remnant: From the ashes only a little bit before I got busy and never finished it, up to meeting the root mother, but even then had no real understanding what what the heck was going on. Remnant 2 looks so fun I wanted to play and this will make that experience much better. Will be recommending for sure!
To be fair, nearly all of the major bits of story and lore are in terminals and notebooks (which is why there's so much generic footage in this video). I do love the universe they've built and hope they expand on it in the future.
Damn, that was good! What an absolutely well done video. This is exactly what I was looking for. Now with Remnant 2 out itll be fun to see where the lore takes us.
SO remnant is a game where you traverse through many worlds commiting genocide, destroy a guardian that keeps a world safe, all so you can learn how to get to an island.
I'm surprised you don't have more views and subs. Great stuff, very professional and informative I think. And I just started playing this game yesterday, at the desert world now. Why I didn't download this game earlier a year ago on Xbox game pass is beyond me. Keep up the great work!
This game took me by complete surprise, too! What an absolute delight it was; probably in my top 5 games played last year. Thank you for checking out the video!
I'm about 15 hrs in to this game and I am in love. It so rich in its imaginings. I have watched so much scifi and played so many otherworldly games but Remnant still finds a way to amaze me. I would love to see this game come to film. Thank you for such a well done story.
in hindsight, i should have probably bought the dlcs before watching this, but it was a good read none the less, kudos for the effort put in this, it shows
Wow just finished the game and loved every minute of it. Your breakdown of the story is really well done. I’m curious will you be doing a breakdown for Remnant 2?
Woah, whaaaat! Had no idea there was a prequel to remnant, now I’ve got to download and play it before the sequel comes out this year. Thank you for the great video.
It's called Chronos: Before the Ashes. It's a simple souls-like that originally released as a VR exclusive, eventually coming to Steam. I was the one that played through it and I thought it was fun enough.
After playing the game for the past few days and non stop. It so amazing finally putting all that I did and saw put in to context. I loved this so much, thank you for this.!!!!
I'm late, like real late, but this is perfect. Remnant 2 comes out next month, so having a lore refresher is a very nice. Thank you for all your work, helps keep my sane at work!!
Wow, absolutely awesome! You've put a lot of effort and soul in this video. Playing Remnant with my girlfriend right now, surely we will rediscover game after this video Keep making more jewels, like this one!💪
Thanks for checking it out! Looks like Remnant was 12 pages of script. The bigger videos are maybe 30-40 hours from start to finish, with about 2/3's of that being the research/scripting. I remember Remnant being particularly tough to make a full timeline from, so it was probably close to 40 hours.
Amazing work! Although I had to stop watching after 10 mins, because I want to finish the story first. I will definitely watch the entire vid once I'm done with hunting lore in-game. Thank you for the great vid!
This game's lore is fascinating. I think Lady should also do many deep dives of Destiny 1 and 2. It's still going, but man would it be something to see her literally bring all of Destiny 1 to life while tackling Destiny 2 in chunks after. I stopped playing D2 altogether right before "The Witch Queen" expansion launched due to my youngest child being born, and have no time to every pick up that herculean game again, but any lore dives not done in chunks by Byf would be awesome.
Thanks for this incredibly detailed explanation of the lore. 1 thing though, I believe that the guardian of Reisum is weakened terribly because it gave its heart to Clementine. This was mentioned by Vargyl, the big beared friendly giant. He said he didn't know why the guardian did what it did, but that has caused the guardian's power to wane. In the Suject 2923 ending cinematic, I'm not sure what Clementine meant when she said she could not stay though. Whether she meant only about Ward 13, or that she was returning to Reisum itself.
There's a very high chance. She just recently finished it on stream, though we'll probably wait until all the dlc's drop. We think the dlc's will have the juiciest pieces of lore and will hopefully flesh out everything that happened in the base game.

Seems like we're returning to Yaesha in Remnant 2
@@SympatheticStrawmanVA oh yeah, that was totally the Ravager
@@SympatheticStrawmanVA we have, and it isn’t looking good
@@JuanPerez-ov2hu yeah I know. I just beat the Mother Mind on nightmare mode and I can definitively say that Yaesha is in a state of severe yikes
Thank you! I've been looking for some Remnant Lore for ages. Really well done content. Thanks a lot!
My pleasure! Thanks for checking it out.
Something to note about Yaesha: The root are already there, or at least a harbinger of the root is. It's called the Root Horror, and it's an optional encounter. Basically, the Root are already on Yaesha, though it hasn't unleashed a full scale attack of its people yet. Th only place where the Root has not gone so far is Corsus.
just a matter of time, we killed corsus guardian
@@123JuniiorrUnfortunately, one way or another, without our characters interference I feel like The Root would have made it there regardless. One question I do have is if there's only four planets and The Root conquers all then what's left for the root. I mean I understand the Root is an ancient evil hive mind but one has to wonder. Will like a mass effect reaper cycle take place? That's honestly worse in my opinion. In that sense everything is pointless. No matter what happens, the root always returns.
@@KDB349 the planets we see are not all of them, there are many more
and potentially, over time, new civilizations will form
Wow, really appreciate both the research gone into this, as well as the video's execution! Just finished this game with a friend and - frankly - had very little idea of the story as a whole.
I just finished Chronos after playing Remnant and I am a huge fan of this lore. I hope they have more entries in the series.
the amazing video definitely deserves a sub. Very well-written and executed script!
Thank you so much for checking it out!
Gotta love how the iskal learns about the root and their first reaction is “1v1 me bro”
@@davidchaput5484 The irony there is the Iskal Queen wants to literally take over and assimilate the Root...
Ezlan destroyed Rhom when he nuked the surface.
How do you not have more subs? The quality and editing are amazing. Love your voice and vids. Keep up the good work Tiptoe!
Thank you! I'll definitely keep up the hustle. Looks like we're starting to hit our stride! 👊
I hope to see a return to Corsus on account of how off her rocker the queen is.
However, she's arguably as much of a threat as the root themselves: Planetary infestation, hive mind collective, soulless husks of soldiers, and can produce more spawn from the remains of the fallen.
The Iskal are just as primal and raw as the root are, THAT would be a battle for the ages that I would certainly pay to see within the war torn world of Corsus for a DLC
Can't get enough of this game, great video!
a new game based just on the Iskal queen would be super awesome!
@@fabf77 you dont need to play chronos to find out who harsgaard is and why he was there, everything was told in the game

Can you maybe do a video updating what happened between rem dlc and remnant 2 and then recap the story of remnant 2 the same way you did this!? Maybe… please?! I loved this.
Great video. I loved remnant but didn't play the dlc, so I needed to watch this now I'm playing remnant 2 (had no idea who clementine was lol).

All the talk of dreamers and the wooden cthulu/demonic ents always brought me back to the secret world. ahaha. I enjoyed this game so thank you for covering it.
I enjoyed it too; it was a real sleeper-hit for me. Thanks for watching!
@@TiptoeTheTank Of course
Can't wait to see what you will do with Remnant 2's lore ❤
I love your approach to chronicling the lore of the Remnant universe. I really hope you post a follow-up now that Remnant 2 is out.

Heyo, listened to this in anticipation of the sequel. Thank you so much for putting together such a comprehensive lore video!! I’ll be checking out some of your other videos now too 😁
Love this video, hope you do one for Remnant 2 now that it's out.
You are so eloquent in your commentary that hearing you say, "It feels REAL nice to absolutely shooty shooty bang bang this guy," caught me SO off guard that I choked on my coffee. 😂
The fuzzies are the types of organisms that'll burn their only ladder to be warm for 1 hour instead of climbing out to freedom.
This is savage and probably very true.
Their also very likely the hollows you fight on earth. As their physiological points line up until you throw the roots assimilation into it.
I have no idea what the fuzzies are supposed to be? I've played the whole game so idk
Amazing video, really makes me hope for a sequel in this amazing cosmos.
Me too, this game really caught me by surprise. Definitely a sleeper hit!

great video to watch getting ready for the launch of remnant 2!

Because of this video, I went out and bought this game. I am enjoying it immensely. Keep up the great work!
A small detail hidden is that in the Stuck Merchants cart you can see the body parts of Yaesha's Guardian! I learned this shortly before the trailer for Remnant 2 dropped.
ohh wow i was wondering wat that thing was
Even a year later... I still wish this story was adapted as a TV series...
Anyone playing remnant 2 in 2023 and beyond should watch/listen to this. This is awesome
With the release of remnant 2 I’m rewatching. Hope to see a Rem2 lore video in the coming months
i read all the lore and this helps me clear stuff i possibly didnt comprehend before! thank you! i knew most of the things in this video prior to watching this because i read every terminal (though apparently missed a few things)
Nice refresher on the lore, with the announcement of the sequel finally happening I needed it.
Great video. I played Remnant: From the ashes only a little bit before I got busy and never finished it, up to meeting the root mother, but even then had no real understanding what what the heck was going on. Remnant 2 looks so fun I wanted to play and this will make that experience much better. Will be recommending for sure!
I've played this all the way up to getting to Rhom and I've had no idea what was happening until watching this lol
To be fair, nearly all of the major bits of story and lore are in terminals and notebooks (which is why there's so much generic footage in this video). I do love the universe they've built and hope they expand on it in the future.
I really hope this game gets a sequel. It was so well done!

How long does it take to write a 50min script? +editing +recording +research? Strong work.

I understand. Happy hunting!! Let me know if you find anything spicy. 😉
Thanks for this! I'm super pumped for Remnant 2 coming within the week!
Whether she meant only about Ward 13, or that she was returning to Reisum itself.
without clementine the root will invade reisum, not to mention she didnt have the best experience living in ward 13
That’s a bunch o story for
