Hi, friends. I wanted to leave a personal note with this video. Thank you all so much for your support as this channel has grown. We're approaching the first 100k subs! It's like we're entering the "big" league. You all have so completely changed my life for the better; I can't believe I get to do this for a living! The last few months for me were devastating and heartbreaking. But everyday is a little bit better, a little happier, a little bit more exciting to just BE here. In my darkest times, this channel/community was like a beacon in the night. Truly, thank you for being here. Here's to 100k soon! And the NEXT 100k to follow!!! 🎉 -Tip
You've proven yet again that you will make it to 200k by future-proofing this channel. Death Stranding 2 will come out eventually and you will be ahead.
The narration in these videos are incredible "But no one knew what happened it didn't save her reputation, it was just a quiet good her name was Fragile but she wasn't fragile". Damn dude, well spoken.
Totally an under rated gem. The game engine and mechanics would have been great groundwork for a multiplayer game where people choose to build their own settlement and the connections they make with their neighbors.
I liked it, the gameplay jus wasn't for me honestly, jus delivering packages pretty much, but other than that like your saying, the story idea was pretty cool
I think Kojima needs to be paired with a gameplay expert. Kojima can craft a story and atmosphere… but the gameplay is walking. Mass Effect solved this in 1 and 2 by having sections of no combat where you could play mini games to unlock chests via timed reflex or pattern recognition games. What if every so often the PC got a call for help… ‘I twisted an ankle, my trucks broken down, BT’s have me penned in, etc…’ Now granted that takes away from the isolation nature of the game, but the game already uses NPC porters and keeping them alive and functional could impact on how much other player performance impacts your world state.
@@davfree9732 i hardly spent any time outside of the opening tutorial 'just walking.' Combat was actually really entertaining after I figured out how to interact with the world and items around me. Only downside was that combat was discouraged save for the last stretch which I accidentally bypassed because I had already built a network of zip lines around the danger zone
@@davfree9732 did you actually play it? Because there was a lot more than just walking, and when you were walking there was decent complexity to the gameplay rather than just pointing a stick in a direction and waiting. Feels a bit rude to suggest he has no gameplay knowledge just because you didn't like a concept.
I was already looking forward to this game before it came out. It came out during what ended up being a low point in my life at the exact time when I needed a game like this. I was trying to get my kids back and rebuild my life. I did get my kids back. I got full custody and we are still rebuilding our lives being haunted by our own Higgs. This is one of my favorite games. I am glad to see you doing a lore video on it.
I've watched a few lore videos but I actually think you make THE BEST gaming lore videos on UA-cam that I've heard to date. I grew up around the entertainment industry and I have to say; you have a VOICE for story telling and voice work in general. It's top tier. I don't know what you do professionally, but of you're not actively using that voice you're missing out on a hell of a career.
I am still thoroughly confused about so much, but this is the best explanation I've ever seen/heard for most of the aspects of this game. A lot makes some kind of sense in a way it never had for me before, and (having watched the other 2 parts) it really comes together a lot better for me because of this thorough video. The storytelling and delivery of this video is just delightful, though. Thank you for all you do, Tiptoe!
I'm glad you made this video. Ever since the birth of my daughters I've had trouble approaching anything involving babies dying, so this is a semi-comfortable way to engage with the game.
I'm glad it worked for you! I don't even have kids and, man... the stuff with Cliff, the BBs, and Mama even pushed me to tears while scripting. I genuinely have trouble watching Mama's hospital cutscene.
Quick bit of trivia about the guards at Bridges in the Cliff Unger flashbacks: They're wearing Romanian army uniforms. You can tell because of the camo pattern.
I am so stoked you're doing my favorite game!!!! I've been watching the wake/Control series as my "lore to sleep to" for months! I can't wait to watch this 100 times!
I've played this game AND watched several other lore videos about it and still had no idea wtf was going on. This is by FAR the best explanation video I've seen. Finally! I had all but given up on it ever making sense to me. If they wouldn't have thrown so many new acronyms and name changes at people during the game it might've been a lot easier to understand 😂
This is an INCREDIBLE exploration of DS lore. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed it and am so impressed at how you paced it. Please make more DS content.
I have no idea who you are, where you came from or why UA-cam recommended me this channel randomly. But I've since binge watched most of your content, I think. Sometimes the algorithm does work. Keep up the cool vids, these are absolute quality!
I cannot WAIT to watch this when I finish doing some yard work this evening! DS is one of my three all-time favorite games, and even though it's been a couple years since I last played it, I've been considering dipping back into it. This feels like the perfect refresher to prime the pump, so to speak. Thank you for taking the time to put this together, and for sharing your hard work with us! Also, congrats on the recent channel growth! You're closing in on 100k and that's awesome; I can't imagine how good that feels : ) Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving (if that's a holiday you observe) surrounded by people who are dear to you. All the best! -NB
WOW thank you so much, i love this game and the emotional backstories for all the characters. nothing will ever get me harder in the feels than that last run up the hill to the incinerator
Wow, you have great Lore voice! The issue with long ganes, lore can be forgotten after multiple sessions. The game is huge and I love it. And I also realized how I understood 70-80%, the other 30% was definitely explained here! Awesome video!
I'm currently finishing roads and getting memory chips. Pain in the butt that there's no roads in the eastern region. All in all though, at 150+ hours of gameplay, I love this game! I've learned you can stack dead mule bodies in a truck.
I'm so excited for this! Out of everything and everyone I watch on UA-cam, you are my favorite! Thank you for everything you do for us! I hope you have a wonderful week!
I found your channel with your HZD videos but only (relatively) recently subscribed after your Project Zero / Fatal Frame videos. I've been rummaging around in your back catalogue and have been watching the Control videos and the one for Prey. I never played Prey but have watched a couple of other retrospectives on it, I really enjoyed your one. I follow several lore and retrospective channels and each of you has your own style and focus. You break things down and present them in a way that is easy to follow. A lot of your personality comes through in your videos and it keeps the tone energetic and light. I don't follow your stream, it's just not my thing. I hope you hit 100k for Christmas. Great channel.
Hell yeah! Kojima's games are always so dense. I'm excited to see you give this the breakdown it needs! Perhaps someday we can see Metal Gear get the Tip Toe Treatment...?
Been gaming since the early 80s and this is one of the best games I've ever played. It's in my top 10 of all time. This video is incredible for explaining the story since even though I know more or less all of it, I didn't have a coherent thread to explain it to anyone. Explaining this game in bits and pieces will never work. This channel is a gem.
I remember watching Let's Plays of this game during work in 2019 and early 2020 (I own an Xbox so this was not a game I had access to). I remember loving the sequences with BB and Cliff Unger. As a new dad, I really identified with him and his love for his child. I really identified with the character Mama too. The game is so-so, but good lord the themes and lore for this game are just so amazing.
Death Standing is such a beautiful and powerful game, and I love that you are able to convey that in the way you speak. I greatly appreciate the empathetic reading over other monotone readings that I've heard.
THIS!!!! Finally a video that summarizes all those data collected throuhout the game, not just a "THings are weird because they are! Accept it!" Watching now and saving to rewatch when DS2 comes around
Death Stranding is one of my favorite games of all time. That and Control. You doing the lore for both? That's amazing! And your videos are seriously the best. So easy to follow and smartly arranged. Thank you for doing this long enough for me to discover you and fall in love with your content!
After watching "the lore of dishnored 1" Im conviced you are the best lore teacher out there. That said, you should definitly go for Deus ex lore. its amazing!
I want to watch this soo bad but I'm only on chapter 8 😅. Taking my time with the game and letting it sink in. Already got 70+ hours, can't wait to come back to this. But in the meantime I'm gonna check out your resident evil and silent Hill playlists! Happy to have stumbled onto your channel and to have subscribed, thanks for your hard work for the fans!

32:30 I'm not certain exactly when this came up, to cite it or double check that I'm not misremembering, but I believe it is mentioned that Lockne and Malingen were born conjoined, that there was an operation to separate them shortly after birth. With the implication that this is why they only have one fully functional reproductive system between them.
It just now occurred to me that although I know very well what happens throughout this game I'm still watching this in a state of suspense due to your very effective way of retelling things.
