Hope you guys enjoyed this video on the 2017 Mini John Cooper Works, it was more of a quick look at the car as the owner was passing through my city. I'm about to pick-up my 2nd Mini JCW next week after having my first one for nearly 4 years - absolutely love it....One word...Fun..That's all you need to know about JCW...If you want 'fun', then this car is hard to match for value. Anyone in the UK FYI, if your interested in the finances of the car for new purchase..so on Personal contract hire.. I put £2.5k down (Which was positive equity from my previous Mini) so the risiduals on this car are amazing, they hold their value (I had 28k miles handing it back) and my new one has more mods, than the last one and my payments are £378.00 a month. Compare that with a 198bhp BMW 4 series M Sport with a £4k deposit and then £565.00 a month! You can't compare them...Stop hating, and go drive the damn thing and take it for what it is.... FUN...I STILl after 4 years, on my way home will just drive past my house and just keep driving, because I'm just having fun driving the car..That's after FOUR years of having one!
Sorry I went off on a rant, but I do feel this car is so under rated, and it's trying to be different and a bit quirky!

Waiting for the cry baby Mk6 and Mk7 Gti drivers that do not realisr that thr Cooper S and JCW are not only quicker to 60 but also interior, you cannot beat it!

Edgar Killa MJ because they are very fast, tons of aftermarket parts, fun as hell, incredible at a track, have tons of technology and are terribly practical.

What I went to see about getting a stage one remap, however the most they could do was 290bph without going for a stage 2. But the torque went up considerably! Brilliant car!

The only person who I take my add blocker off for haha.. I don’t know what it is, but no matter how hard I try I just have a hatred towards minis. I appreciate the car for what it is and believe it’s a really cool car to drive but I guess I’m just a badge snob. I didn’t think it was possible to top the peak but you’re just getting better and better and just don’t get bored. Keep up the good work brother and take it easy!

Yeah different class of car, I would take the S3 easy though. Traction and practicality + power makes up for the 'less fun' factor.

Tom francis the S3 is a boring car that doesn’t handle anywhere near as well as a MINI, let alone a JCW. The S3 wouldn’t see where a MINI had gone on any road that wasn’t just an open straights A road. Trust me, you will always want more power but in cars like the JCW it has great handling to fully exploit the power. Proper little drivers car, people buy S3’s because they don’t know too much about cars. If you desperately need 4WD, get the Golf R. Far more character. I have an e92 M3, an M6 and a MINI GP2. There is only one of them that I take to the Ring.

Cracking video mate, full review would be good! Currently have a Mk7 Golf R (for the last 12 months), phenomenal and more than capable car but I seem to be struggling to love it as such. Test drove a JCW today and it felt like an absolute blast to drive despite the lack of power and AWD. What are your thoughts, Golf R to a JCW?
Straight line these won’t compare to a golf r , but for fun whilst your driving you won’t find anything that compares. My S1 would launch faster cause of Quattro , but they’re just a bit safe and boring. And it is definitely faster than the S1 now it’s been mapped

Hmm these JCW's probably have more character in terms of sound/go-kart feel but I personally couldn't go from an R to a JCW, the R does lack a bit of fun but I just love how capable it is. Plus its bigger/more practical, also the aftermarket options are pretty crazy at the moment if you want to add a bit of excitement, stock they are a bit plain despite how good they are.
David Esling do it mate, you won’t regret it. Driving is supposed to be fun not anodyne. As fantastic if a car as the Golf R is, it’s just too functional. A MINI will always make you smile.
Well it seems one week later I own a JCW. Absolutely loving it and it's incredibly fun to drive, doesn't feel underpowered by any means coming out of the R. That exhaust and the overrun pops for a start. .. Smiles per mile have gone through the roof.

you should do an audi a5 tdi 3.0 v6 its a strangely great car and sounds amassing
For me the mini R53 supercharger tuned to 240bhp is the best version. The instant reaction from the engine means it can gapp everything.
I had a r53 jcw. 17 percent smaller pulley and intercooler was 220. Was fast. But even a stock f56 jcw would gap it. And a mapped 310bhp jcw would leave it for dust

What did you think of the clutch and gearbox in this?
Ive driven 4 minis a 1.6 petrol, 1.6 diesel, the previous JCW and the newer cooper S and found that they were so much fun to drive but their gearbox and clutches were awful and really let them down. They always made me appreciate getting back in my mk7 ST when I used to own one
Clutch was a bit springy near the top but within 5 mins I got used to it, was fairly easy to rev-match too. Didn't notice anything too out of the ordinary apart from that
TR Hamza ah okay! think you get spoilt with the gearbox and clutch in the fiesta ST, I went for a dsg in my new rocco R so saves me comparing any manual to the ST😂 did fancy a Mini GP for a while though
I own a R53 JCW Cooper S and previously a MK6 ST, the ST gearchange is like a knife through butter, the JCW is very clunky and mechanical, day to day the ST change is easier to live with, though the JCW change somehow suits the car..
What sort of 0-60 time does a F56 S do when it's 300BHP?

Pashtette I have plans, just don’t want to do everything at once. But the down pipe also makes flames
Adam Foley I know, but actually this pop and bang thing is totally gimmick, it works for the most time only in SPORT mode (I had Manic st.2 on Cooper S F55 with Milltek downpipe (both straightpiped and with muffler left) and the exhaust sometimes popped in MID, but that was miles away from what was in SPORT) and only if you lift the throttle before 4000 rpms, actually when you really drive it hard (4000-6500 rpms) there are no pops or bangs at all ;) The same goes to when you floor it to the redline in stationary - you will hear just a casual engine without pops ;)
Plus I think my neighbours hate me enough as it is . Poor Bill has a heart attack when I start my car on a Sunday morning

That's a pretty drastic difference man... Especially considering you'd have to tune/remap the JCW to get the same power as the Golf. They're pretty similarly priced second hand as well, but you'd probably be able to pick up a 64/15 plate Golf for about 14/15K if you look in the right places, a lot of the JCW's for that age tend to be about 17/18K..

Not bothered about power it’s the drivability, the JCW are weapons mate FWD go karts, golf r are probally the best out but with the 4 wheel drive and DSG you seem to lose the driver focus you had, in other words the JCW reminds me of an old car with power
CupraBoss I’m the same mate. I drove a JCW in June/July when I’d looked at buying one and it’s probably the most fun I’ve had in a car other than driving a jag haha. The way I look at it is a Golf is a Golf, I prefer the mini personally, just wasn’t sure what your view may have been! But I agree with you on the 4 wheel drive/DSG front
Yeah good fun this, if it was me I'd probably get the R though. I know they're a bit bland but you can do so much to them nowadays aftermarket. Also more practical etc

Looks like a fun car but I could never see myself ever owning one. End of the day it’s a Mini Cooper it could be 500bhp and I still wouldn’t want it.
Thats understandable, not to everyone's taste. My money would go towards an M140i for not much more.
M140i was less, just couldn’t justify the extra £2500 for a years insurance

JCW are amazing in there category, people compare different cats, this isn’t an S3 golf r etc competitor that’s what the m140 is for, this is a super mini, corsa vxr, fiesta st, Ibiza Cupra (mine), Clio rs, and it is top 3 no denying, I’d take this over an m140 any day, next 2 no weight loads of power an FWD, you can throw it into bends and power out like go karts.

Sounds/drivers quite well but I couldn’t picture myself (or any man for that matter) owning one. It’s just too girly with way too many rounded edges both inside and outside.
