Very Useful Info! I looked up maps for my town and found a low lying undeveloped area. I walked down in the woods and low and behold I found a pile of broken glass next to a dried up creek bed. After a little digging I found some stuff from the 60s, a broken coke bottle with the name of my town on it, hopefully I find more stuff!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! This is such useful information.
I went digging with my dad and uncle at the old Chicago dump from the Chicago fires. And we found som pretty amazing things, that dump is next to the rail road tracks about 235 miles south of Chicago. I’m hooked now 😂..I can’t find any dumps here in west Tennessee, but I’m still looking. I’ll try your tips maybe I’ll have some luck now.
Sounds like an amazing time! Good luck and happy hunting!
My dad used to work for Sanborn, didn't know that the maps could be used for this. So cool!
Thanks for the feature!
Our pleasure! Thank you for being a credit to the hobby!
I am in Columbus Georgia we dig also and I use Sanborn Mabs to locate the creeks, but we also have the Chattahoochee river
Pretty much every house had a "trash pile" behind it not far away.. Look for broken glass, tin cans..etc. these are gonna be smaller dumps but they are pretty much everywhere
Trying to use google to figure out why every inch of my land is covered with shards of glass. Found your video and I've never heard of bottle diggers but I'm pretty sure my land use to be a huge dump 🙃
Could be some good little treasures hidden there!
I live in a town of less than 600, will my town have a city dump? The town was established in the mid 1770s.
Yes
Thank you for sharing your tips! I never put creeks and bottle dumps together.
Glad you found the information valuable! Good luck out there!
Thanks for the info

Sandborn is just the brand name. We have Goad's maps where I am. Ask at your local archives or library for fire insurance maps.
