  • Finally plugging in my new (old) Rickenbacker 381v69 and playing the Beatles "Across the Universe." I just got this guitar and have been playing around with the tone and feel of it. It's got a beautiful, slim Ric neck with great action. Will it make me a better guitar player? Probably not, but I'll look good playing it! Played through my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp. Video taken on my iPhone 5 front facing camera. Edited in iMovie on an old MacBook Pro from 2008. Vintage computer! Is that enough info? Good...

It has a rounder tone to it if compared with let's say the 360 or the 350V63. It's a masterpiece of lutherie with the "german carving". But I would go for the 360 first allowing me to reproduce that '60s sound (on a Vox). Congratulation on your new acquisition ! It's definitely a beauty !!

THE WEIGHT COMES MOSTLY FROM THE FACT RICS USE TWO TRUSBARS IN THE NECK INSTEAD OF ONE TRUSROD LIKE ALL OTHER GUITARS. ONE BAR COUNTERACTS THE TWIST FROM THE BASS AND LIGHTER GAGE TREBLE STRINGS AND THE OTHER THE BOWING CAUSED BY THE TENSION OF ALL THE STRINGS.

Very nice mate, Just wish your "new strings" were Flats, they REALLY make a difference on these. If you don't like the ($$$$$$$$$) Pyramids, the DeAddario Chromes are nice, (and a bunch cheaper too), always a good thing!! Jangle away!

I wonder why Rockabilly guys don't play Rickies, they have twang for days.
Ordered my 330 in jet-glo last October but it will take to September before it will be in my hands.

can you get the 360 jangly, twangy sound somehow ?

really informative and thank you very much about the tips and advice i have a 360/12 but i have also eastwood 12 string and danelectro 12 string and the eastwood is by far the best and a wider neck and easier to play then the rick comes second just in front of the danelectro but not by much i tried these with a compressor into a roland cube amp for the byrds sounds and although in my opinion rickenbacker has the name for me eastwood 12 is a better guitar

I think that you sold me on this guitar. I can imagine nothing better in life than playing Beatle music on a 381. You said that you put heavier strings on it. What did it come with and why did you not like them?

Thanks but can you play rockabilly guitar? If so can you do a demo of this guitar playing rockabilly? Maybe Carl Perkins?

It's a beautiful guitar with a great, slim neck. It's a bit on the heavy side, though. Maybe like a dense Les Paul weight. Lots of wood, but gorgeous to look at!

***** I've ordered one in Fireglow. I just love Rickenbacker and Gretsch guitars! I especially love the fact that Rickenbackers are still produced in the USA.

Sorry, pal, you're wrong about that. Words 'flow' out like endless rain into a paper cup, they don't 'fly' out. Get some more Beatles music under your belt and then you'll see (hear.) Thanks for playing!

Dude, it's flowing, look it up. Words flying out of a paper cup?
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
      Possessing and caressing me
      Jai Guru Deva OM
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe
      Jai Guru Deva OM
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Nothing's gonna change my world
      Great job.
