    Love this. I was on the fence, but couldn't justify keeping this used market alive. Just rode my brand new one home yesterday; engine-braking, rev varying, under 40mph joyride. At least I know how I'm gonna break it in.

      Like I said, I bought two of them from dealerships because people were asking almost as much as new bikes (then, the prices are worse now) Now I know how they've been treated and maintained and if something happens, I know it's my fault! Thanks for watching and for the comment. Best of luck with the new bike!

      Buying used from a dealership is different from buying from a dealership. The dealership (if they aren't shady) is most likely going to do what they can do have that bike ready to go because they have a reputation to uphold and don't want something coming back and making them look bad. An individual on the other hand, they don't have that same pressure. Happened to me a few weeks ago with a piano I bought, I've put quite a bit of money into it even though they said it was in great shape. I was uneducated, but have since been schooled in many ways.

    Good commentary. It is definitely a sellers' market these days. I don't know how many times I've seen the same hard to get items sold back and forth for the same "new" price. And the dealerships are not budging on their prices. No haggle room like there used to be pre-2020.
    That said, for anyone who's interested, I just got rid of my 2021 TDub. It just wasn't for me. I sold it to a dealership I did NOT buy it from for $4400. I'm a realist. I had my fun with it and understand depreciation. I was seriously not expecting such a generous offer from a dealership, but it saved me from dealing with CL. And put money in my pocket for a new toy.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  2 роки тому +1

      There's a thought! Dealers most likely have a waiting list for the TW's. It is a sellers market for sure, that is why I was trying to help the buyers as well. Don't know how it will overly pan out, but here it is. I know the Tdub isn't for everyone, but maybe later on down the road it will fit the bill you're looking for in a bike. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.

    I’m so glad you brought up the break in. In 2007 I bought a new XT225 and I was crazy fussy on the breaking it in. I sold it at 33,000 miles and it still purred like a kitten. I didn’t ride it over 80% of the top speed either. Only on occasion, but not for very long. The break in, is the main reason I’d never consider buying a used one. Just watch UA-camrs showing “Top speed” on their brand new bike.

    Preach, brother.
    Very good timing finding your video. Here it is, in the final few months of 2023, and I'm looking at a 2019 Van Van. It has 127 miles on it. Not a typo. The seller says "showroom condition" and wants $4650 for it. Which is what, a dollar off MSRP? Otherwise he's not really forthcoming with info and its an hour and half drive to give it a look.
    I get that it isn't being made anymore, and it's kind of a "niche" bike. Before watching this, I probably would have hitched up the trailer, driven out there with some cash and tried to pick it up for a little less.
    Instead, I think I'll go to my local dealer and pick up a known commodity for a little more money. Thanks for the wake-up call.

    You are right, the TW does hold its value in a used market but not to the point of it still being new. A similar bike used could sell for $2000 but a TW of the same could be worth $2500, because the TW is known for its reliability and has been the same build for many years only improving on its build rather than making a bunch of changes to it.

    Matt I just rolled my bike to the 3500 mile mark and its a 1989. I remember paying $37.00 a month thru the bank . I believe I paid $3700.00 and that felt like that was a lot and it was back then when the pay scale was a lot less then today. As for people asking almost as much as a new bike there is not much you can do but try and haggle on the price, like you said take someone who has a fresh set of eyes for the machine and so you don't get taken for too much money. As for me I have rode more this year then in past years and I have looked at the aftermarket parts and followed you and a few others advice and I really have enjoyed the new up grades and as for selling my bike I believe that I will keep it as long as I can ride it and pass it on to my son who has shown a interest in it . Hi Matt,
    We just bought our first new 2022 TW 200 from a dealer. My husband will be riding it. We enjoy your videos and think that you do a great job and are very informative. As to selling, I sold my husbands vintage 1975 XL 350 Honda in 96% pristine condition which he has owned for 43 years with 9300 miles (the bike was going to beat him starts like an old Harley) and a vintage 1984 Honda CT 110 Trail (too cramped when seating on it and can over heat at high elevations), which we bought new in 1986 with 2200 miles in 99% pristine condition. I did get top dollar for both bikes but they were in exception condition, stored, taken care of right and are rare in this condition.
    I do want to ask you about the seat of the TW 200, we are older 68 y/o for me and 73 y/o for my husband and come from the 1970's dual purpose Honda bikes. I still own my beautiful 1971 Honda red SL 175. The seat is uncomfortable OMG uncomfortable, one sits on your pelvis floor with this bike. After a few miles you are sore on the bottom 😬 Have you experience this problem when riding them? Our Honda bikes never were this way. Anyway looking at a seat concept seat. Keep up the great work you two and thumbs up!

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  2 роки тому

      Hey Diana!! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment, I appreciate it! Those other two bikes you sold should have pulled top dollar with the care and condition they were in, plus they AREN'T made any more so they have become collectors items. The TW is still being made and hasn't received the collectors status.
      As far as the seat goes, the only time I get really uncomfortable with it is when I have a passenger with me and we are riding non-stop for a few hours. Other than that I am able to move around on the bike and haven't felt as uncomfortable as you mention. I know that folks have used the Seat Concepts conversion and I have heard mixed opinions about it. Some folks have added gel seat covers and some have used the wool seat covers. I don't have a ton of experience with any options so I apologize that I am not much help on that one. Thanks again and all the best!

      Hi Matt, Thanks again for the quick reply. Well "bite the bullet" and bought the Seat Concept seat for the TW 200. I did notice that most folks that complained of the seat were older and they are the ones that went with the new seats for their TW 200. I will let you know how it goes when we get it on the TW 200 and if it is an improvement or not. We did change out the foot pegs with HTTMT MT216-003- Gunmetal Black Motocross MX Dirt Bike Racing Foot Pegs from Amazon and that really made a great difference. I do not know why they put such small foot pegs on these bikes to begin with. Just received the new Nomadic Rack for the TW 200 today and it is a fine piece of work. It will look really great on the back.
      Keep up the great work. You and your wife remind me of us at your age going all over on our Honda motorcycles. We loved to camp and go motorcycling in the Beartooth Mountains in Montana when we were young. It is really great how you include the whole family and friends with your outings!

    I bought my 2018 TW brand new for $4,599 before fee's. I got hit by a car this summer and they totaled it out - the bike looked perfectly fine and had no issues so I retained it. I put a deposit on a new one and still haven't heard anything from the dealer months later. I ended up finding a brand new 2021 from a guy who changed his mind for $4,500. I sold my "wrecked" one with 2k miles in 12 hours to a guy who bought 8 of them that day for a hunt that was going on - i sold it for $4,000. Mine was the newest and best looking one on the trailer and probably the cheapest. Don't kill me but I played the market game and benefited quite well. 🤣

      @@j.lwinchester5788 I was already eyeballing the new color way of the 2021+. I was planning on swapping it out when dealers had inventory again before the accident. A motorcycle shop did an inspection and sent off information to the adjuster. They said their was some minor frame discrepancies and insurance usually totals bikes out when they hear frame. I bought it back to keep it because their was no reason to lose a perfectly fine bike, visually was only scratched on my aftermarket exhaust. Then I found a new one like I wanted anyways and it made sense to do the swap. I look at TW’s everyday and know values and saw a few rebuilt ones sell and knew I could swap it out for only a few hundred bucks.

    The rules are simple, a willing seller and a willing buyer.
    If I were selling mine I would consider those dealer fee's because my potential buyer can't buy a new one without them.
    Last year I was casually looking for something that might be more useful than our Yamaha Zuma 125 that we carry on the back of our motor home. Sometimes we get into some poorly maintained boondocking areas and US Forest Service areas where the Zuma doesn't excel. I had never heard of the TW but stumbled onto three of them on craigslist. I bought a 2014 with 600 miles on it from an older guy that didn't use it off road for $3800 with an upgraded seat. It's a nice blue without the dorky paint job and colors that most years seems to have. It's perfect for our needs and weighs the same as the Zuma.

    I was looking for a tw and couldn't find one so i drove 2 hrs to Alabama to look at one and wow was that a mistake. The bike needed literally everything broken clutch lever, wrong battery, completely bald tires, both brakes completely inop, headlight cover looked like my 9 year old installed it blindfolded, shift lever was bent, he hadn't transferred the title to his name, i couldn't hear it run, the odometer said 2800 but the rest of the bike said a very rough 10k. To top it all off he wanted $2700. I detailed to him and his father why that was ludicrous and what I got from that conversation was him admitting he bought it for $1800 ran it until it wouldn't run any more which wasn't long then attempted several half-ass repairs with the cheapest parts he could find and set the price $900 over what he paid. That was a lesson for me but I'm actually glad he didn't take my $1000 offer i would have been pissed with myself if id gotten that bike.

    Hey Matt. This was a great post. Quick question. What is your opinion on figuring in the price of installed options on used bikes TW's? I have found a 2018 TW with about 2000.00 dollars of options on it in pristine shape. Should I subtract the cost of the options to get the true cost of the bike? Just a thought. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Kit! Thanks for watching and for the comment, I really appreciate it! The only value those extra parts have are based on whether or not those are parts that you want on your bike and how willing you are to pay for them. Aftermarket doesn't (Officially) add value to the bike. Also, depending on what was done and who did the work it could actually do more harm than good. I'm gonna get some hate from this reply, but that's just my take on it. Folks are willing to pay for them though and the market right now is a sellers market. Normally there are a few people fighting over each bike being sold. I hope this helps! Best of luck with getting yours and let me know how it goes!

    Hey brother had to laugh at this video. I’m picking up my first TW200. It’s a brand new 2023 model. I paid $6100 but I’ve been on the waitlist for 9 months now. I live outside of Fairbanks, Alaska so the dealer only gets I believe 2 or 3 units each year. I was seventh or eighth on the list so I was not expecting a call until next year.
    I just agreed to buy a used ‘22 KLR650 last week that has 800 miles on it. So, I about shit myself when the dealer texted me last night and asked if I was still interested in purchasing the T-Dub. Needless to say I made a beeline to town as soon I got off from work today and put down a deposit to hold the bike. I’m a bit peeved the dealer added a $1K markup but T-Dub is mighty rare duck especially up here in Interior Alaska so the dealer can get away with it.
    One last note regarding used T-Dubs. They are going for more than new on FB or Craigslist. The owner of the dealership even mentioned that today. I’ve only seen two for sale in the past 18 months and both sold for almost $6K each. I believe one was a 2019 and the was an early 2000s model but it had low miles.
    Regardless I’m stoked to finally be getting my first T-Dub even if I paid a bit more than what I should have. I’ve actually never seen one in person since I’ve been interested in the bike until today. I really enjoy the videos and I’m learning a quite a bit from them. Keep the videos coming brother.
    Cheers from North Pole, Alaska!

    There’s some controversy over the break in periods. A lot of factories rev the living shit out of each motor to make sure they’re good before putting them in a bike.
    At least on KTMs, I wouldn’t worry too much about break on periods. Other brands, not entirely sure though.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  2 роки тому

      I know that there are a lot of different break in procedures. Yamaha lays out theirs for the TW in the owners manual and it states to stay below half throttle until 600 miles and then don't hit full throttle until you're at 1,000 miles. I have broken both of mine in using two different methods and both have seemed okay so far.

      @@MOBStreet83 Hey Matt also a reminder why it's not good to buy an older use one. And that is all of them have Analog speedometers and odometers not digital. Which means you can disconnect them or wind them back or replace with a brand new OEM and nobody would know the difference. So these older ones that are 10 years old or 20 years old with only 500 miles or 1000 miles I say BS.

    Incorrect sir. Supply and demand. You can ask double what you paid if you want to. And some people will pay it. Don’t wanna pay secondary price? Don’t. You’re welcome to keep looking. But don’t get mad at someone else for asking a premium on something that’s in demand.

    • @MOBStreet83
      @MOBStreet83  2 роки тому

      Don't get me wrong, I understand supply and demand, I really do. After thinking and reading comments and folks calling me an idiot for saying folks "can't" do something, my frustration is more towards the fact that a lot of buyers are going in uneducated. Also, when there is a 1995 TW for sale for $4,500 in like new condition there is no way it is like new unless it is a complete and total rebuild from someone who knows what they are doing. Everything on that bike has a shelf life and asking premium price for a machine that might be in demand yes, but is going to require a lot of work to get it to premium is crazy to me. Also, they are still being made, it's not like they are a 67' Chevelle that is not longer coming off the assembly line. I don't know that my point of view is coming across the way that I had hoped, but I agree with you on supply and demand and folks can ask what they want and there are some who will pay....I just hope they go into the purchase knowing what to look for. Thank you for your comment and voicing your thoughts, I really appreciate it!

      Hey John! I would think that isn't too bad of a price. It's a newer model with lower miles. Best of luck with it! I'd make sure to go over it thoroughly. Check all the fluids and the tires. Make sure it fires up okay so you know the fuel hasn't gummed up the carb and so on.

    That's way I'll only buy a new bike. Also if anything fails while riding you are taking in your safety. Spend the money on riding gear, good helmet, crash jacket, gloves, boots, pants. Coworker of mine likes going fast on his 600 and he has invested in himself $7500 on that gear and $3000 on his bike but he know the guy selling it and how he took care of it only thing he's done is rebuild the forks but I'd buy new with that small of a difference so I could have 20 years with no issues rather then 1-2 and rebuilding and fixing. Wisdom is what we are seeing in this video.

    • @MOBStreet83

      There are some who take care of their bike and religiously maintain it. I wouldn't mind buying one of those and I have done that. But, there are some who'll clean them up nice and mask other problems. The TW is a solid machine for sure, but used and abused happens to a lot of them. Thanks for watching and for the comment, I appreciate it.
