Thank you for taking the entire rad and oil filter out so we could see better! I saw another video explaining the procedure but I didn't really understand where to look until I saw your video!!!!!! Much appreciated!
Good work on this video, first time I've seen anyone actually get us a good view of the sensor
Thanks for the video! I will be doing this tomorrow evening, it's nice to know what I'm getting into before hand.
really helpful video even 9 years later, golf has refused to start sometimes when warm so hopefully a new crank sensor will solve it :) Thank you!
Glad it helped
Thanks a bunch I’ve been turning and pulling thinking I needed to be super careful with it, glad to know I can pop it out.
Glad I could help
Well done video. Shows me the tools used and clear view of a tight area. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
all respect to those who managed to replace crank sensor without removing the oil filter. haha
I'm gonna try lol
I do this 15 minutes in golf IV long 10 mm and it takes while
@@mercedes6510 It was a while ago but I think I had hard time pulling the old one out without cracking it.
I need to change my oil so two birds for me 😂
Omg that thing was so annoying lmao took me like and hour for one screw😭
Awesome video as usual!
...My bolt's 5mm Allen was too rusty to grip but thankfully the bolt on mine also was 10mm hex head.
Great video, thanks! I need to change this out on my daughter's Beetle. This was very helpful.
Also a 12 mm fits the outside of the bolt mine was dirty and the 5mm hex head wouldn't grip it wanted to strip bolt so it was easier to get with a 12 mm socket and i pulled the oil filter mount made task alot easier for my 01 jetta wagon
Great job... Best video ever on this issue
Great video, changed mine cause my transmission is slipping, it still doing it after replacing the crankshaft sensor, any pointers on why it's still slipping any trouble shooting advice would help, thanx
Mine throws that VSS intermittent G28 fault code and now sometimes car won't start hot and I stalled at a red light so my days are limited before I must replace
Tommorow I will roll up on ramps and see what's up with my 99 Jetta ABA 2.0 gasoline engine Wolfsburg...
I just watched another video in which you had to pull the starter and the bracket there and I would rather not but it looks like it will be surgical work to get at that bolt. If anyone has done this job on this vehicle I'd love to get away with minimal tear-down. Pulling the starter is actually not as messy come to think of it and I have pulled a starter motor in the past. Better that maybe than having to process dirty oil at the same time as I have to work in the street or off the side of a remote road.
I saw where someone had to tap the 5mm into the bolt head, from above, after removing some shrouding - seems like getting that one little bolt off has a reputation for being difficult, per the forums.
Makes me a bit nervous prying hard on a car up on cheap plastic ramps LOL. But it should pop off if you have a good pry tool. I did a whell sensor, basically similar, and it was not difficult. Worst case you can probably clamp vice grips on it and wrangle it off.
Got to get that beast back on the road though!!!!
Perfect presentation, thanks !
Thanks for the video just what I needed to see :)
Thank you very much. Your video is now very useful. Can you clean the sensor or replace it?
Sensors fail internally when they get old... replacing them is the only option.
Thank you so much for this video 👍
Nice strange tools 👌
Great video Sir! Thank you
Thank you.
Hi Rich, is the CRANKshaft sensor and CAMshaft sensor the same? Thanks....
No
I have the same fault but my caddy starts eventually I already repaired some wires looks like I might have to un rap my tape and see if there's any broken wire 👍
Where did you move the motor mount... Because it's not accessible as copying.
Hello dude, I have a no spark!!
I measured the plug at the crank sensor "there is no pwr present ground is okay" Should be 12V
Can I bypass a pwr to the sensor and see if there would be spark??
Any other suggestions?
why did you remove it? It would be nice to know why you think it was bad and or what were the symptoms that lead you to believe it was bad.
My guess is that he had intermittent stalling when the engine was at operating temperature. When the sensor fails completely, the engine will not start, no matter what temperature it or the sensor is at. Buying a used sensor from a junkyard (as shown here) is not a good idea, since the sensor itself is also old / could be bad.
@@EXOVCDS Is it true the tach needle will not move when it's the sensor? I have a crank/no start situation for the first time and I'm leaning toward the fuel pump or the crank sensor. My tach needle is jumping up to the first line though @ 100 rpms while cranking.
@ignacioforrester8791 year, make, model, engine? If the ECM is not receiving a crank sensor signal, then the instrument cluster will / should not get an rpm signal. If you have spark or injector pulse, then the crank sensor is ok. If you have injector pulse but no spark, then the coil is probably no good. If you have spark & injector pulse but no fuel pressure, then the pump is bad.
@ignacioforrester8791 there are several other things that need to be checked as well.... depending on what engine is in the vehicle.
@@EXOVCDS AZG 2.0L
Could this keep your fuel pump from coming on? I replaced it thinking it just went bad. But it still won’t energize. My car threw this code when I scanned it. Any help is much appreciated
What was stopping the fuel pump from coming on?? I was thinking this was causing mone not to work also
@@JustMe-zv3qk my car actually jumped timing. I got lucky and was able to just replace the timing belt and water pump.
Ooow dont wear out the panel tool, use an old fork from the kitchen lol :D
That sensor did look a bit crusty, hope it works now.
There was a wee bit of oil there....lol
it can be reach from under the car if you have it on ramps
Awesome, thanx Peter Griffin.
My pleasure!
It’s been 8 years since this videos release but I’m proud to announce I got it off with the oil filter on haha
My 2017 tiguan needs a crankshaft position sensor but we can’t seem to find it it under the hood. Is it in the same place as this one?
Thanks
Thanks for the vid. Will this sensor cause a misfire on one particular cylinder? P0302 (#2) cylinder to be exact.
I reckon it could. I've read on VW forums. Also fuel injector will , bad coil or spark plug or plug wire to that cylinder. I'm trying to figure out if my golf has a bad crankshaft sensor. Idles rough. Loss of power . Puffy idle. No smoke. Idle shakes the entire car and engine.
Jesus that engine looks fuuuuuucked up with all that rust
Vehicle is in a junkyard... I would not recommend buying an old sensor off of a junkyard engine.
Will this procedure work on a Mark 3 and a 1/2 or 4 aba engine cabrio 2.0 aba
My vw beetle 2004 is not starting and even after jumping it the car is shutting off. The check engine light came on and the code is reading crankshaft sensor. Would a bad sensor cause a beetle to shut off?
Yes
Thank You!
Great
My 5mm hex bolt is stripped. What size mm socket can I get over it😢
I have a 2002 vw cabrio with the 2.0 and itll start and run for about 1-2 seconds then die like i shut it off. Could it be a bad crank sensor? Will not run more then 2 seconds.
no. its your immobilizer.
Take off the battery cable for about 10 minutes and put it back on, should do it.
Did you tell everyone that you have to remove all hoses in front prior to where you are?
will that sensor cause your vehicle to have trouble starting?
+poppinbottle408 A crank sensor that has failed will prevent the engine from running.
you took out your front engine mount right because my mount is it the way
Will both Crank shaft position censor and camshaft position censor lead to no spark?
Only crank sensor failure will lead to no spark. You can disconnect the cam sensor and the engine will still run.... 1999 to 2008 2.0L Golf / Jetta. The 1994 to 1999 2.0L cam sensor is in the distributor... but will also run when the cam / distributor sensor is disconnected.
Thomas EXOVCDS so that leaves me with one question.. is it the wiring or the ecm that is bad? Because i changed the cam sensor in the distributor and only a rare time the car will spark and start x)
@@sBxTrEaTzZ ECM's don't fail that often... the mk3's have issues with ignition coils when they get old. Cam & crank sensors can be checked with a multimeter. I have videos on my channel. Send me a message via email (on my about page) and I'll send you links & info on how / what to check.
Does the speed sensor make the speedometer needle work? Thank you
+Alan Ramirez The vehicle speed sensor sends info to the computer which in turn sends info to the speedometer to make it work.
That sensor goes to the ecu for timing.
hello, could i ask pls
my car is cranking long time.. from 3rd time i start it up, is just first start of the day.. new battery and new plugs are in.. could that be the pump issue not pumping diesel in the engine? or this sensor?
thanks
Best advice run an OBD reader through it
ok kool thats what i figured thanks
So what kind of problems this is doing ?
The engine don't start when you entre the key and try to start ??
2001 VW Cabrio. Trying to replace engine speed sensor. There is a bracket blocking access to the sensor bolt. Is this bracket an engine mount?
rslonake I guess my question is, can this bracket be removed and reinstalled easily?
Can this cause the car to overheat?
Hi I have. 01 Jetta and it doesn't start its not the immobilizer though anything else?
I'm looking at getting a 99 beetle 2.0 and I'm wondering if a faulty crank sensor could cause it to die randomly? I'll be getting it for nothing but the cost of getting it to my house and the only issue is sometimes it'll just randomly die and not start for 15-30 minutes
I am sure if the new beetle has a history with crank sensors so what i would do is run it by a vw forum.
Exact same situation as mine. Haven't replaced it yet but the shop said sensor is probably causing it. Mine has the p0322 crank code.
You sound like Peter griffin 😂
I do....lol
😀👍👍👍👍
Yeah I see that now. Cause you woiuld mot be ablr to remove that bolt with the starter and the engine mount bracket off.
Would this cause my 2.0 Jetta to stall even while driving on a freeway 80miles/hour? I need to wait about 20 minutes to be able to start the engine back on. Also, I’m noticing a loss of power when I’m going slow and trying to speed up. Please help, thanks.
Doca Ristic i believe so my vw does the sane thing check engine light came on got it checked said it was the camshaft
dtissy t thank you :-)
Can and crank position sensors are two different things.
Hi, i have problems with my passat CC 2013, the car runs good when it's cold but stalls once it warms up... and there is no chance to start ir normally again, after start it works only 1-2 sec, then stalls... After 2-3 hrs when the engine is cold, it stars normally again... The diagnosis didnt show any faults... :( There is possibility that i have the same problem with crank?
I would bet that's it
took absolutely nothing apart and got the sensor off easily
If this crankshaft sensor is not good , THE CAR WON'T START?
Not necessarily on my 1999 2.0 it starts and runs but then shuts off once it gets warm. It has the crank code on it p0322
Why some mold in this car
Lot of rust must stay up north salty roads
my son's 2000 vw bug stops running after driving it about 8-10 miles, could this sensor be causing that?
+Tina Robinson I have seen crank sensors heat up then fail leading to the engine stop running.
+richpin06a Ok thanks, I appreciate it
Where can I buy this part new?
rockauto
whats with all that rust!
Cause this cause a car to turn over but not start? Car was working fine then wouldn't start next day would start run for a couple days now not running at all. New battery new fuses sounds like the fuel is going through when key is turned over ...?
Could**
+Christina Velasquez When a crank sensor fails there is usually no spark to the spark plugs which leads to a no start condition.
hi, which is the jetta model?
Ramiro vzz I do not understand.
99-05 =mk4
What year is this car?
That's the VW A4 / mk4 platform... 1999 to 2006
damn bolt stripped
Hey guys .. noticed this wasn't for a 2015 gulf so I made a video wear its located and how to take out .. check my channel..
A 4 motor 2.0
that is a very poorly cared for 2.0L
It was always an ordeal getting the ladys to allow me to touch their "Wisker Biscuit" under the'Ol hood.
Mainly because of all the oil and grime under my nails snd stuff.

my 2008 volkswagen GTI 2.0t stopped running as it usually does.. is the crankshaft sensor the cause of it not running like it should??
