I fitted a set of these tyres on our 21 Tesla M3LR last November. Very pleased with them so far. Reduced road noise, improved ride and excellent handling in dry & wet road conditions. Would highly recommend Hankook Ion Evo AS for EV’s.
Hey Tom, thank you for this video -it’s very timely for me as my first 10k wheels swap and wheel alignment are overdue. I understand those guys @JAX are fully Tesla certified for these type of services? my old ice car tyre service shop just bluntly told me “we don’t do Teslas…” Btw Tesla service charges at Chatswood ridiculously high prices for this standard tyre service combo! which is hugely disappointing and it will cost them dearly if they keep doing it👎 Will use your voucher when booking hopefully they will honour the deal. Many thanks again for keeping us informed on your channel and propagating EVs ! Happy charging 🔋and let’s keep evolving 😊
Word of warning: don’t go to Tesla service to get your tyres changed. They’ve even hinted themselves to me in the past to shop around for a better deal lol. From experience, Tesla service are more expensive than third party tyre shops Scott and his team have fitted tyres onto many Teslas and EVs over the years 👍
I recently got michelin pilot sport 5 on my model 3 they have superseded the pilot sport 4 oem tires. However the installer mentioned they no longer have the foam inserts😒
Since Teslas do not have a servicing requirement and have regen braking that significantly reduces brake wear, the tyres become the critical maintenance items for the car.
Still should take your Tesla's for atleast a check up once a year to check wear and tear on steering, brake lines etc. Just because it's not required for warranty doesn't mean you shouldn't make sure the cars safe.
My model S 85 was fitted with new continental tyres when I purchased it 13 months ago, I keep the tyres inflated to 45PSI, checked every month and have already rotated the tyres once. I've only done 4400 kms since I bought it, and the tyres still look like new. I know the exact range and efficiency I get with the continentals, my next tyres will be the hankooks to see if there is any change.
Hmmmm seems like quite a few wheel weights attached. Not necessarily a problem, but they probably could've reduced how many were needed if they rotated the tyre on the wheel.
Thanks for the video, I've been looking at this tyre for a while, it's got a 600 tread rating which is impressive and made for EV as well. Btw your Model S still looks brilliant.
What has been the experience of tyre wear and distance travelled on any one set of tyres for your EVs? What has been the expectation vis reality? It’s an interesting point for me.
Thanks Tom. A couple of questions - how many kms on the tyres you removed? Did Jax refit the pressure sensor valves? Do you have to reset anything in the onboard computer? How do the Hankooks feel now they are fitted?
The last tyre change was at 75000km and these were changed at 110000km but to be fair they were long overdue ... I didn't have to change anything on the onboard computer given they were the same width tyre. Not sure about the sensor valves. Subjectively the ride quality seems to be better since the change.
@@justinseau yes my son just got a highland 3 LR. He optioned for 19” wheels, and it came fitted with Hankook Ion evo’s - not AS marked. When compared to the Ion Evo AS version I now have the tread pattern is completely different. I have photos of my OEM Hankooks Ventus S1 Evo 3 from may cars delivery - it looked to be the same tread pattern! Checked on line searching Hankook Ventus evo it definitely is the same tread pattern as the Hankook ion evo 19” fitted to my sons new model 3. Looks like they have rebranded the Ventus at least on the OEM fitting from GigaShanghai
Just to remember the hankook ion evo are not homologated for model 3 non Highland as the speed index is W and we need Y. I think the same on model S !! No? I did put them on my model 3, very happy for the silence compare to the Michelin pilot sport 4. But very low mileage as I have to change them after 32000km on the back. My Michelin did hold 60000 and I had at least 5000 left when I changed !!
Thanks! Shame we aren't getting the new Model S, such a nicer looking car than the Model 3/Y. When i finally pick an EV I'll probably be cheap and just get regular tyres. I've been reading a lot of reviews, saying the range and noise isn't nearly as big an issue as they make out.
@_Sensei_8 I'd likely get the mid speck BYD Seal (Premium). I'm moving from a Manual Corolla so I think the Tesla M3 with almost nothing is a bit extreme of a change. I'd get bored real fast with no buttons to poke.
I just wish that there was an EV specific tyre for my BYD Dolphin. Tyre manufacturers need to start making EV tyres in all sizes, not just 19inch and up.

The Model S still looks amazing
It’s an absolute classic 🤩

It be good if you could do a before and after range test.
Yes I agree that would be good … but there’d be so many variables that could potentially be unaccounted for though

Thanks for the video Tom. It looks like staff have not been told not to use impact wrenches on EVs. Electric motors don't like impact wrenches.
Thanks Rado. Glad to see they used a torque wrench though at 7:55
These are the tyres I'm going to try on the Model 3 next. Time to experience something other than MPS4's.
👍
Good to see they are using jacking blocks to avoid lifting on the battery. Not all do....😢
JAX Artarmon are good guys 👍

Absolutely 💯

This is the 5th set of tyres from memory for this Model S which has 115000km on the odo … so they’re lasting about 15-20000km per set
@LudicrousFeed wow. Only 15-20k per set. That's not a lot. Have you found it better on 3/Y?
The Model S is a known tyre shredder. The economy is better in 3/Y

Is it really worth the double price premium for ev tyres? Those ones are over 500 a tyre and no specials on them either.
I guess time will tell to see if they last longer …
Hey Tom, do you know the price of wheel rotation every 10000km ?
I paid $55 in 2020 for rotation and alignment at this Jax
$80 for tire rotation and wheel balancing. just enquired a few days back 😅
