I had to laugh while reading some of the comments. Such different opinions. If people don't want to destroy a book, they can still do your creative ideas with photocopies or ripped scrapbook paper. I keep buying books at Goodwill for crafting and then decide they need to sit on the shelf, so maybe I will rip my scrapbook paper for a background. Sometimes, I watch a DIY video just to relax and watch creativity at work. Other times, I am inspired to copy or to take the basic idea for my own creation. This video was inspiring. Thank you.
Haha i love books and bought an old cheap priced 1970s dictionary with the intent of crafting. Then I got it and it was in beautiful condition and I am having trouble to allow myself to tear a page. (Ugh!) so i may buy a second one so I dont feel bad.😂😂😂😂😂
I live books, the feeling of paging through a book is something our kids are missing. By using my own old books that I have not opened or looked through for years it feels amazing to use them and change them into something i can fallin love with all over again. Even if they look different after the revamp, it still is a book with memories and energy I now can use to introduce a book and book page's with my children. Even if it is in another way. Thank you to all for giving new love to books.
My daughter in law got a bunch of paperbacks from a thrift store and did an entire wall in pages overlapping here and there in her den. Came out fantastic!
I re-decoupaged an old music cabinet with the pages and images from an old dictionary. My mother had originally done it when I was a child. Some of the decoupage was falling off, so I refurbished it. It came out fantastic and we now use it as a liquor cabinet. It even has a lock on it!
I love the idea of collage but for some reason each time I try I give up, wondering why am I doing this. That said I am having another go, you are inspiring and I so want to do this, the steps you take and the explanations as to what works (or not) is very helpful, also I think I have been over filling my page, losing my idea along the way. Thank you so much, your voice calms me when I get frustrated with myself, you are appreciated. xxx
Thanks so much for sharing your struggles, Diane. I do hope you will continue to try and will soon see real progress that encourages you. I wish you the best!
OMG, as soon as you initially placed the lovely copper hinge down...I was saying a loud "Yes, yes YES!!!" I LOVE your final result. Thanks for the useful commentary on your thoughts and choices for collaging.
Thank you, Margarete. You've given me so many ways to use my old book pages decorative as well as so many other ways of decorating my page also with some doily lace or punched lace edges, using book images as my focal point and adding parts of stencils to add some color that goes with the image and so much more. I'm working on a forest journal so I will incorporate several other techniques as well. XOXOJANE
Some books aren’t worth reading. Or they’re falling apart. Or whatever. Rather make art out of them than they wind up in landfill, which is what happens to the majority of old books.
Hi Margarete, just ended up on your video as I was fluttering over all and everything to find what I needed. So Yay, lovely new ideas and love the way you talk whilst pondering and searching for the right formation etc. I love natural from the heart ideas. One needs to be calm and enjoy what we are doing, and this video ticks all the boxes. Thank you.🥰
Love this video! you are right, we may already have some awareness of these techniques but sometimes things just get buried somewhere in the back of your brain and have to be brought to the surface again! thank you for reviving my enthusiasm!
I love those small flower stamps from New Zealand. There are many different kinds and they're all awesome! I have a small collection of them because I love to put them in my collages 😉❣️👍🏻
thank you so much for sharing so many wonderful ideas!! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences & things you have learned over the years! I just started junk journaling about a year ago - and I feel like I have way more to learn that I have learned so far! I love the concept of taking "junk" and making something useful - and even beautiful - with it! it's such great therapy, too!!
Wonderful ideas. I love the torn edge pages. One thing i like do with book pages is to use scotch tape to take the words out. I sometimes make stripes with the tape, ink all over the page, then take tree tape off. It makes blank spaces for journaling if i put it on the back of tags or journaling cards. It occurred to me watching this video that you could use that to isolate and emphasize certain words in the page. These are all fun ideas that you showed!
Loved your video. It inspired me to pull out my old books and begin working. Your suggestion to stamp the blank spaces on the book page was a game changer. I wouldn’t have come up with that and it makes such a lovely addition.
I found this very informative, thankyou for all these ideas. I especially liked the torn pages for pockets, and shall be doing this in my junk journals. Xx ❤️
Thank u so much for this video. Love all the useful info for book pages. U enhancethe pages instead of covering them up & that's what I've been searching for. And the name of the French dictionary is an added plus. I can't wait to put some of these into use. TFS ❤ C'est magnifique! 🌞
Great video! Thanks for introducing me to that lucious French dictionary! Also, I will give a shout out to Thrift books and AbeBooks. I have grabbed books in “poor” condition and been very happy with the book pages within.
I love your examples and the whole video! I am excited to try out the torn edged pocket idea!! It’s really pretty and I like how it looks folding around the page edge as well!! The punched edge is also very fun!
Time to dust off my stamps! 😊 I really liked your junk journals, they are beautiful. Your idea of using book pages as layered side pockets is simple but elegant. Thanks for so many great ideas.
My tip: get a bunch of books from online second hand bookshop. Preferably a category in their eshop that corresponds with your likes and interests. Sort from cheapest. Try to picks stuff that might be interesting and buy a bunch of those. It will be hit, partial hit and miss. The very best of it i keep as it is and admire the old AWESOME book treasures i would happily pay 20 times as much for. With the rest i might cut out the best pictures and content i love - to save it and rest is paper for reuse in collage or in other ways. Even boring pages on your favorite topic are still on your favorite topic! Or resell it again if its not for you but others would still like it.
lovely examples, boy wish I had saved my encyclopedias !!! my library has Spring and Fall book sale- can't wait, gotten some gems there. tfs your talent
You are so precise with your instructions and calm voice . Who wouldn't want you as a permanent instructor! Q. Do those small ink pads last long enough? What brand? Thank you for your fabulous 👌 ideas. From Denmark 🇩🇰.
Thanks so much, Elizabeth. ❤️ The small inks I use are really great. They last a super long time. They're not cheap, but I've had my sets, some of them, for 8 years or more. The links to them are in the description of the video.
Nicely done. So many great ideas. Thanks for taking your valuable time to make this remarkable video. 🎉😊
So kind of you to say. Thanks, Bev❣️

How wonderful! I’m so glad you are creating with them 🙂❣️👍🏼
My daughter in law got a bunch of paperbacks from a thrift store and did an entire wall in pages overlapping here and there in her den. Came out fantastic!
I’d love to see a photo of that. That sounds like such an amazing project 👏🏼❣️🌟
I too would love to see a picture of it.
It sounds beautiful!
Soooooooo doing this!!!❤ Thank her for me!!!
Way back in the 1960s we did the same thing on a wall in my bedroom, but instead of paper, we used leftover fabric pieces. It was wonderful!

Another amazing fun, smart and interesting to do with books old or new is .......to READ them.
Of course! Do that, too 👏🏼

Lovely to see that old familiar New Zealand stamp in your work at 7.41. It reminded me of all the letters that needed that stamp when I was young!
