Dean Godden: it was how long for McKay to program the jump out of the Volcano when they acquired the Orion, a couple of minutes? So lets say the Daedalus was at 100% (and not patched together from the last battle with reduced hyperdrive efficiency) it would take .. say 15-20 seconds for Hermiod to program the coordinates another 2-3 seconds for the hyperspace window to open, so that's 20 or so seconds MINIMUM if the Daedalus was at 100% (which she wasn't).. not enough time. WE NEED TO ABANDON SHIP! (runs towards the exit) Orion was to badly damaged to do anything after that first salvo (and without shields I was to be expected). So .. unlike StarTrek, you can't just jump to warp for a second ("Picard Maneuver").
Brad Siluk You say that but keep in mind a cargo ship made a jump with an asteroid through a planet, assuming resonable distances in space, the distance between orion and those hives could be far larger, and as they are using a far more advanced drive surely should be easier? And as for the super volcano that was because they needed room to accelerate into the hyperspace window which a stationary ship in a rather small hanger could not do so needed to be launched in the air first. Also we have seen micro jumps done before, the F302 which had a hyperdrive made a micro jump to get past the Anubis's super hataks shields, so yes micro jumps can be done.
Ryan Williams im suprised they didn`t try and use modified Goauld Tel`tak shuttles, after all they did have full hyper drive, shield and cloaking systems and while normally unarmed could be fitted with staff cannons and thats a standard ship several were enhanced FAR beyond their original performance. i know they couldn`t travel through the gate but with hyperdrives they could get to any system and not be limited by the gate network and do almost the same as a puddlejumper. plus imagine using one cloaked to fly up to a hive ship, attach a mk9 nuke to the hull, then jump away seconds before detonation. imagine what ten of them would do to the wraith fleet in a week doing that.
Easy answer - in every fight, hyperdrive is first thing, that gets damaged, thus rendered unoperable. So jumping somewhere just after they fired the drones is impossible.
The thing is they used the naquadriah hyperdrive on the X-302 to penetrate Anubis's shields. This means they could've equipped missiles with such drives to get through any shields. Due to the unpredictable nature of naquadriah, this would be more like depth charging or carpet bombing the area but the Tau'ri weapons should've been more effective than shown on the shows.
@@stars9084 The point of the Naquadriah hyperdrives was that they were smaller, simpler and most likely less expensive than the established hyperdrives at the time such that they could have them on fighter craft which Teal'c said had never been done before, problem was that Naquadriah is unstable and only available on select planets, one which they blew up and the other known planet with which they have diplomatic issues. Besides what I'm whining about is the obvious technology plot creep which occurred before they began embracing technology plot creep as a fanservice when they wound up the series. Besides, countries have broke the banks with superweapons before, the Manhattan Project certainly wasn't cheap and a weapon that can penetrate any forcefield shield technology would certainly be worth spending a few coin to have a handful just in case especially as they already had an incident where they had to use a Naquadriah hyperdrive equipped experimental fighter to penetrate a shield they could not otherwise defeat just to once again, save a planet (one that had a lot of Naquadriah nonetheless and was using them to build nuclear weapons). The Wraith may have used biological self healing armor instead of force fields but a momentary hyperspace jump would bypass that too.
@@johnwang9914 Interesting, to me the Naquadriah Hyperdrives were always kind of the opposite. Like Teal'c was impressed they were able to make a Hyperdrive small enough to fit into the 302, I'm honestly not sure they would be able to downsize it enough for a missile
@@stars9084 Keep in mind that missiles can be quite large, remember the rocket for the Mercury Capsule was a military Redstone missile. Also the torpedoes used in WWII were 60 feet long. There are missiles larger than that fighter O'Neill used the hyperdrive to fly through those shields. Then again, compare SciFi and video game fighters to the real thing and real fighters are gigantic compared to their fictional counterparts.
Honestly, it looked like Daedalus was doing a great job of finishing off the first Hiveship. If Orion had just sat there and tanked a few minutes of Hiveship fire, Daedalus could have come in and started firing on it from behind. The Ancient ship's shields weren't going to deplete any time soon, I'd wager. If you have to sacrifice shields for weapons, with a second ship nearby that's winning its battle, it would be wiser to just keep up the shields until such a time comes that the second ship can turn its weapons on your enemy.
Or at the very least, wait until the Daedalus can swing by and just position itself in between. The Ancient warship had drones that could navigate around obstacles, whereas the Hive had to fire straight through. Get the Daedalus into position and then fire drones from behind it and its Asgard shield.
Good thoughts, but sadly it wouldn't have worked. Daedalus blew all its missiles in that initial alpha strike. They didn't have time to tank the fire since the hive ships could jump back into hyperspace, and Orion was barely holding together so it's doubtful it could have taken too many hits before something failed. Only reason they brought it was desperation. Laying into the launch bays was an excellent improvisation (and has me wondering why they didn't do it in Rogue One, etc.) and about the only way Daedalus could cause meaningful damage with just rail guns. Otherwise it is VERY much outclassed by a hive ship.
it got cut off but the Daedalus took some bad hits to Life Support and the backup generators didn't kick in. "In about 9 hours we're all going to suffocate" McKay to Ronan
Curiously, they said they didnt have time to intercept, wouldnt a short range hyperspace jump do it? Also wouldnt Orion have made a hyperspace jump after the first hive was obliterated?
Dean Godden I guess they didn't really have the experience to perform such a manoeuvre in a combat situation and they would have to put energy into the hyperdrive which would be used for weapons and shields. As for the Orion she was in a pretty bad shape before they lost there shields to fire the drones so they probably just could not jump into hyperspace
NoiseTheory I think it’s the type of plasma they use, for example the red weapons are using neon, the blue are xenon, the yellow/orange are helium and in some cases such of that of the railguns their just glowing from the heat..
i love how you can see everything in such great clarity even at 360p. by the way, does anyone have the background music soundtrack? this fight is one of my favourites partly because of the music
Anyone else annoyed how the creators of Stargate believed that this is how military would fight in a space battle? I love Stargate but no military, regardless of experience or culture, would ever stand still like this. The Daedalus would fly around the wraith ships like it was a fly. While doing this they could have gotten a direct hit with ALL their nukes and the Orion wouldn't even be needed.
Ugh, space navigation is about delta-v's and orbital mechanics. If you were behind the ISS and accelerated towards it, you would fall further behind the ISS, to approach it you would have to accelerate away from the ISS. This particular battle was not in orbit so orbital mechanics might not apply but "flying around" as you say would require constant acceleration and propellant, in space, vehicles are coasting. You're trying to equate space flight with aerodynamic flight. However, in a space battle, the opponents would be just tiny spots of light if visible at all, barely distinguishable from stars
@@johnwang9914 I'm pretty sure they have all that under control with the fancy alien technology giving them all the delta-v they would ever need. Not like we haven't seen the Daedalus do some crazy maneuvers around Wraith ships before.
I loved how the moment the dedalus came out of hyperspace it was shields up and weapons firing. None of this limp wristed "oh would ya look at that. They're shooting at us and shields are already down to 75%. I guess we should shoot back" crap
Two reasons: 1 the organic nature of wraith technology means their power generators are seriously lacking, without Naquada they cant generate enough energy to sustain shields or even stay in Hyperspace for more than a few hours. and 2 they were fighting ancients whose weapons were so ridiculous advanced shields are utterly useless anyway so why bother developing them?
Two reasons. One the Wraith have a very limited power generation technology and two they never bothered to develop ship shields as no shield they could ever make would protect them from Lantean weapons which would simply ignore them the way they do everybodies.
the wraith use from what I've seen Organic Technology which means that their ships can regenerate plus they do not have the ability to generate enough energy to sustain shields and to stay in hyperspace very long. Speaking of hyperspace travel it has been mentioned a few times that there hyperspace technology is so weak that they have to make several stops to recharge there hyperspace engines so that they can reenter hyperspace again
+Youllsee thanks for that I always assumed that they always had to recharge the engines since I didn't think Rodney or others gave a very good explanation on why they had to make multiple stops
Hmm, the drones look cool in the electric blue, and the missiles/nukes look good too. However weapon impacts on the Orion are more confusing since the colour is fairly similar to that of shield impacts. Then again, I've always been rather confused on why every energy weapon impact looks like an explosion in any case.
NoiseTheory the goauld managed to make personal shields that were little more than a ornate wristband and why not just add a few staff cannons from damaged Hatak`s to the Daedalus design. they had firepower in the megaton range and were easily run off naqudah mk1 reactors on their own. even if you had to build up a charge for a slow rate of fire from a single pair you would have more firepower than all the railguns combined.
thanqualthehighseer but shields would defuse the impact of the nukes, what isn't in this clip is that caldwell orderd all nukes to be put in the missile tubes and disabled all the safety's so they would spring launch soon as they exit hyperspace. he even said fire as soon as you get a target don't wait for my order. would have been nicer if they were closer to the hive ship tho, then less darts would have taken the nukes
***** im not saying generate a starship grade shield. just a short lived one that could take a few hits from a dart fighters cannons or a kamakazie wraith. lasting long enough to get close to cause real damage and if the shield could be used properly channel the energy into a shaped charge that could punch right through the hives hull. never understood why they didn`t use remote controlled drone 302`s with short range hyperjump ability to bypass the darts, launch nukes and get the fuck out of there. the deadalus shields lasted long enough a few times to fly point blank THROUGH the gap in a hives hull, why not drop mk8`s like mines?
thanqualthehighseer the 302's hyperdrive didn't work, was only used twice so likely left out of the rest of them because its a lot of money to spend on multiple drives on all of them for them not to work, plus 302's are more likely their escape pods if they can't save the ship. plus the closer you get to use the nukes more likely it would have destroyed their own ships. ok it could have taken out one hive and deadalus but i kinda think they want to make sure they survive so they can help blow the second hive.
Have you ever looked at the empty space in the middle of a Wraith hive? It is the exact size and shape you need to dock a Lantean battleship in there. The Wraith Hive was purpose-built to capture Ancient warships and harvest their technology. They are _much_ bigger.
Well, all of the Stargate franchise shows were produced in Vancouver, partly for the Canadian taxpayer contributions to such productions. So you could say the Canadian taxpayers paid for this. Interestingly, the shows also ended production when the US economic collapse not only made the US companies strapped for cash but the Canadian productions more expensive to them as Canada was largely unaffected by the economic collapse.
I don't understand a thousand Megaton nuke on a high-velocity rocket flying air detonate and take out all fighters fire another one hit the main ship she goes down
Richard Martin you do not have the same shockwave you would have in an atmosphere and the radiation does some damage but spaceships are designed to withstand certain levels of radiation anyway and there is a lot of space between the darts so detonating it earlie would take out some of the darts sure but not nearly enough to be sure that the second missile would get through to the hive
@@victorselve8349 It's more along the lines of the wraith hives hulls were far to thick for explosive weapons to be effective. Energy weapons dumped their total energy into a target which is why the wraiths own weapons performed far better against them then the tauri's projectile weapons.
if the 50 Megaton that Russia build Detroit 300 square miles of Real Estate that means what is 1000 Megaton would detonate how many square miles of space
Weir sent him and the Daedalus on a suicide mission to cover her own incompetence in letting the location of Earth get revealed. If I were Caldwell I'd have told her to come with or else I wouldn't go.
I still don't understand losing Orion... Daedalus could have travelled to earth with ZPM and used ancient chair there to destroy the hives instead of losing a badass ship
I agree it seemed weaker but the wiki seems to disagree(probably because of the later Asgard tech. "Since Prometheus's destruction, it has remained the sole 303-class ship to be constructed, the planned BC-303 series having been rendered obsolete by 304 battlecruiser, an altogether superior vessel. "
Well, first: the Prometheus was destroyed five month earlier (going by airdate: February 3, 2006, where as this episode is July 14, 2006). Second: the Prometheus was weaker than the Daedalus, having 8 less rail guns, 4 less missile tubes (and lower Mk nukes too), and only half the F302 load (although they weren't used in this episode). In the Prometheus's defence it was smaller and slower than the Daedalus (which explains the lower weapon/fighter load out). You are probably thinking of the Odyssey, sister ship to the Daedalus (which was shown newly commissioned in the February 10, 2006 episode). Although at that time the Odyssey and Daedalus were virtually identical until the Asgard died off and the plasma beam weapons were retrofitted into the design (starting with the Odyssey, and with a ZPM can take out an Ori warship in 6 hits).
Strange... I was trying to find out the dates but for some reason i could only find evidence that it was destroyed in the same month of the battle (Stargate fictional timeline) but not specific dates.
Nathan Johnston like I said though .. those are the air dates of the episodes. I do not know how close they share in the story timeline. Anyhow here is the wiki link to the episode No Mans Land: stargate.wikia.com/wiki/No_Man%27s_Land .. also in the wiki it says: The mention by Dr. Elizabeth Weir of Earth having no ships capable of defending Earth seems to indicate that this episode is chronologically supposed to occur after "Flesh and Blood", the season ten premiere Stargate SG-1, This could indicate that Odyssey’s repairs that were done in the field were only makeshift repairs at best and required considerable time in a shipyard to become combat worthy again.
Vessel was heavily damaged they had no power to keep both and Elizabeth did not want to risk losing the ZPM despite the fact if the zpm was onbourd both hives would be gone and the orion could be repaired and used to scare more hive ships

They should have sent in a cloaked puddle jumper to scout ahead .. Then jump into the battle closer to the Wraith hive ship .. They've done that before .. They could have beamed a warhead to just outside of the hive's shields that is what the missiles did exploded on the shields
They were trying to disable the ships before they could jump again, so they launched all the missiles at the one hive to try and get one through while the Orion took out the other. Puddle jumpers don't have hyperdrives. Hive ships don't have shields, they have very thick and regenerative armor.
They just wasted their main asset .. Why didn't they wait until they were closer to fire the missiles ? The darts wouldn't have been able to intercept them ..
Great show yep this galaxy is fun
Wow those blue drones look better.
Ооо, подкрашенная расцветка выглядит здорово!
Too expensive, Hyperdrives weren't easy for them to produce. And that wouldn't help against Wraith anyway
@@johnwang9914 Well they also have to be stored on the Daedalus or a 302 to reach the battle, and then fit in the launcher
i know this is late but nice job on the enhanced graphics of the video.
Probably the best and clearest of this more than awesome space battle!
it got cut off but the Daedalus took some bad hits to Life Support and the backup generators didn't kick in.
Dean Godden plot device
For the same reason the Asgard didn't gave the Tauri a couple O'Neils Plot reasons :D
They could have made quick work of both hive ships if they had Asgard beam weapon back then.
the blue explosions are weird but not bad :)
Formulka Yeah what's up with the red?
NoiseTheory I think it’s the type of plasma they use, for example the red weapons are using neon, the blue are xenon, the yellow/orange are helium and in some cases such of that of the railguns their just glowing from the heat..
what's with the blue tint ? normally the drones look yellow but they look blue in this video
it was color adjusted thus the title name color FX edited
Possibly to avoid UA-cam's automated copyright violation detection programs.
i love how you can see everything in such great clarity even at 360p. by the way, does anyone have the background music soundtrack? this fight is one of my favourites partly because of the music
What's the strange color filter? Bad idea, it would be better left natural color.
Very cool!
Anyone else annoyed how the creators of Stargate believed that this is how military would fight in a space battle? I love Stargate but no military, regardless of experience or culture, would ever stand still like this. The Daedalus would fly around the wraith ships like it was a fly. While doing this they could have gotten a direct hit with ALL their nukes and the Orion wouldn't even be needed.
goldenmaza especially since the Daedalus has been shown to be highly manoeuvrable before.
Agreed
Beautiful
the size of object is probably proportionally to the power needed to beam an object, beaming an entire crew is impossible
I loved how the moment the dedalus came out of hyperspace it was shields up and weapons firing. None of this limp wristed "oh would ya look at that. They're shooting at us and shields are already down to 75%. I guess we should shoot back" crap
Funny how the earth weapons look like primitive Ancient drones from 0:30
What season and episode is this battle from?
+Steven Ryle season 3 episode 1 "No Mans Land' enjoy
y does hive ships have no shield?
Theri4444
That and their ships need to regenerate from the effects of hyperspace radiation.
+Youllsee thanks for that I always assumed that they always had to recharge the engines since I didn't think Rodney or others gave a very good explanation on why they had to make multiple stops
Doesn’t it seem like they waste drones by sending too many to one ship?
The only problem is every season was a bigger bad guy to defeat, didn’t always need to be battle gate.
@0israphel0 I take it you don't like the colour blue.
why the hell don`t they put shields on some of their missles so they reach their target.
thanqualthehighseer Shield generators are too large to be carried on such a small missile.
Can the beaming tech beam a ship that's several times bigger than their own? The biggest thing I remember them beaming was a malp
They beamed a skyscraper.
Yes. BUT that skyscraper was damaged at molecular level (as i remember).
the colours are changed but a big LIKE :)
Been trying to figure out the size of a wraith. Do you think, its about the same size as orion?
Wraith hives were actually the largest ships seen in stargate. Ancient warships like the Orion were about the same size as an Ori Mothership.
Have you ever looked at the empty space in the middle of a Wraith hive? It is the exact size and shape you need to dock a Lantean battleship in there.
The Wraith Hive was purpose-built to capture Ancient warships and harvest their technology. They are _much_ bigger.
ROCKS
Looks amazing
Our tax dollars are paying for this!?
TGGeko Bang for ya buck.
+TGGeko I wish.
What episode was this again?
Well, all of the Stargate franchise shows were produced in Vancouver, partly for the Canadian taxpayer contributions to such productions. So you could say the Canadian taxpayers paid for this.
Interestingly, the shows also ended production when the US economic collapse not only made the US companies strapped for cash but the Canadian productions more expensive to them as Canada was largely unaffected by the economic collapse.
In reality I don't see how a nuke wouldn't completely obliterate any ship without a shield in this show.
And this is why you invent MAC rounds. (Halo reference)
aye. they really needed to build a bibger railgun.
Insane 1 nuke wasn't enough to destroy a hive ship
drones arnt blue and wraith weapons are blue not yellow and ancient shields are yellow/orange not blue?
Love both these scenes tho not a fan of the fx colour change. Doesnt work
Здравствуйте ,бутдете так шутить,я применю другие меры.
if the 50 Megaton that Russia build Detroit 300 square miles of Real Estate that means what is 1000 Megaton would detonate how many square miles of space
Very little, there's no atmosphere in space to establish a shock wave. Nuclear weapons have very little area effect in space.
The whole "Michael" thing was incompetent from the get-go. And then after this debacle, the incompetence just kept on going...
I love the Stargate Battles very much. But These Battle not! No Commander Would start all Rakets in the first time... (Sorry for my English 🙈)
I actually prefer the colours this way, dunno why but they seem to go with it; well at least I think they do
I like the change in color I think the drones look way better in flame blue than they did that stupid yellow orange look
ZombieMasterEd25 in a parallel universe , you said the opposite;)
I try do prdele!
Weir sent him and the Daedalus on a suicide mission to cover her own incompetence in letting the location of Earth get revealed. If I were Caldwell I'd have told her to come with or else I wouldn't go.
VERY NICE!
The CGI still holds up very well. It still looks great!
damn railguns really fudge that hive ship up!
I still don't understand losing Orion... Daedalus could have travelled to earth with ZPM and used ancient chair there to destroy the hives instead of losing a badass ship
NATALS
All you did was tint the red to blue and make the whole video look like shit, we all know you did it just to avoid copyright too
Why didn't they have the Prometheus take out these Hive ships?? It was much more powerful than the weak Daedalus.
Kwendtster Emm Prometheus was destroyed way before in Stargate SG-1 Thats Stargate Atlantis

Who the hell designs a ship that has to lower shields to fire its weapons!?
Vessel was heavily damaged they had no power to keep both and Elizabeth did not want to risk losing the ZPM despite the fact if the zpm was onbourd both hives would be gone and the orion could be repaired and used to scare more hive ships

Why oh why did they fire ALL of their missiles at 1 hive ship ?? They were too far away .. They should have known the darts would intercept the missiles .. Bad tactic ..
Fire the missiles then go to hyperspace .. Hit and run .. They could then jump back into the battle .. Very poor tactic .. The Orion was not fully functional .. To depend on it was foolhardy
well you can tell none of the commanders ever went to top gun training ...they don't know the basics of dogfight combat
...try doing tight maneuvers in a ship the size of a Wraith cruiser or the Daedalus then get back to us
Serious question: How different would modern aerial combat be if we had cannons and missile launchers mounted in turrets?
@@DantesonofSparda85I wasn't talking about the Wraith ship it was stationary .. The Daedalus was the ship commented on .. The old Prometheus could do 110,000 mps with sublight engines .. Why couldn't they get to the Orion in time ?
oh...bad tactics... I don't know why they fired all of their missiles at the same time...they knew the darts would try to intercept them they should have fired one missile and then as the darts got close detonated that nuke to take out a bunch of the darts ...then keep firing one at a time and detonating them to kill off the darts ..then they would have been able to fire a missile to take out the Hive without the interference of the darts...they could have sent the nukes over on the rings... beam a couple nukes targeting one in front the other behind the Hive and detonate them
Nuclear explosions have very little area effect in space, there's no atmosphere to establish a blast wave.
That was a total waste of their missiles ..
Well they had to do it for the plot. But I get what you're saying.
