One small correction - the strategy to self-destruct was not an Asgard one, but a Tauri one. They brought in Carter to think up a "dumb idea" that the Asgard were incapable of considering.

    • @s0nycz3kk

@Steven Strain Asgard came to Tauri to think of something they could not, they even stated they are not capable of such thinking anymore thus Asgard would not come up with bait into self-destruction strategy. So what they would learn? How to be "dumb" again?

@@s0nycz3kk Didn't they do something similar another time also? Something about they wouldn't have been capable of thinking up an idea to fight the replicators with a substance from such a basic compound as sulphur, when describing the bullets that were taking out the Reps whilst the Asgard energy weapons could not? I can't remember it specifically but it was funny at the time.

@@KennyTC63 I forget if it was directly part of the 'we need a dumb idea' that led to the self-destruct plan, but they once mentioned that ballistic weapons (using bullets, basically) was a weird and crazy idea in their eyes, yet it seemed to work stupidly well against the replicators.
The best part of the whole 'dumb idea' line is that the SGC sends Carter, who is probably one of the most intelligent people they have. Saying something if you take it at face value that the Asgardians are of superior intelligence that one of the brightest Tauri minds is still considered dumb by Asgardian standards.

The beam weapons installed on the Odyssey were literally the first beam weapons produced by the Asgard.
If the Asgard would have had more time they would have likely installed them on their ships as well and taken them into combat but since the Asgard died out minutes after installing the last upgrades on the Odyssey (including the beam cannons) they didn't really have time for that.

She also helped save the asguard from the replicators "several times", she helped pioneer human technology that allowed them (earth) to build their first hyperspace capable ship. Hell she and her dad were 2 of 3 people that finally stopped the replicators for-good.

The O'Niell Class can travel to Pegasus from Earth in a few hours. A Biliskner Class ship can travel from Ida to Earth in under the span of a day (SG1: S4E1 Small Victories). Thor's new O'Niell Class ship towed the Prometheus over 1200 lightyears in 6 seconds (SG1: S6E12 Unnatural Selection). At these speeds, it would take 4 hours and 10 minutes to get from Earth to Pegasus. Keep in mind, it was implied (and can be reasoned) that it goes even faster without towing a ship. Asgard hyperdrives usually eat close to all of the power their generators are capable of creating. But when towing a ship, they use extra energy to both tow the ship and enlarge the subspace field to cover both ships for hyperspace travel. This is likely why Atlantis, even powered by 3 ZPMs, didn't instantly make it to Earth. Atlantis needs to have shields online the entire time during space travel and is a significantly larger.

    • @TytonidaeIndustries
      @TytonidaeIndustries 6 років тому +4

      those are all great points

@@MuffinMan0521 Why would they though? Back in their time ZPMs could be manufactured, so should they require more power, ZPMs could've been simply replaced.

To put into perspective how fast these things are.
The Ida and Milky Way Galaxies are about 4 million light-years apart.
The O'Neill traveled that in HOURS.
Pegasus and Milkyway are 3 million light-years apart.
The Daedalus Class with asgard hyperdrives takes 18 days to make that trip. With a ZPM it takes about 2-3 days.
    18 days for 3 million light-years vs HOURS for 4 million light-years
    That is insanely fast

Ok I am 2 years late but...... Ive been calculating. If the O'Neill, was able to travel 3 million light years in 2 days and the Daedalus class ships were equipped with these hyper drives. And they should be since in the last episode Thor mentioned they equipped the Daedalus with their most advanced technology and they even gave them their whole archive of knowledge. They could try to catch up to the Destiny. Dr. Rush said they are several billion light years away from earth. So lets say its about 10 billion light years. 10,000,000,000 / 3,000,000 =~20 years. If its 20 billion light years then its 40 years. That would be life long missions. And lets say its one way.
