Dont kid yourself. It actually is just a really expensive shitty old hatchback. Luckily I found one cheap and swapped out that live axle rear end for an IRS! Still only loved for the anime and it's 'driftability' because the stock suspension couldn't provide much rear grip.

I guess you didn't know this, but the AE86 won the European Touring Car Championships in 1986, and it had to dethrone the BMW M6 to do so. Not bad for a "shitty old hatchback".

i had the pleasure of owning AE86 before, it was a good, solid car. it handled very well, lots of fun. it was definitely more fuel efficient than most of my cars. as to why i got rid of it bothers me alot, i think was just unaware of how good the car was. and had outside influences convince me to get something "newer/better". and i know i made a mistake, the same day i sold it I got a DUI. FML however, Im in the process of looking for another. and no longer have those nay-sayers about the car in my life. Long live the AE86!

God this video is sad coming from an AE86 owner/destroyer (lol).
Reason number 2. The 4AGE in the AE86 is rated for 112HP not 123HP. The red hatchback that you showed do a highway pull.. actually has a BEAMS 3SGE Blacktop in it. The Gray hatchback that did a burnout has a 1UZ in it. The white and black hatch.. had an f20c in it.
Number 4.. Brown Hatch is Rotary lololol.
If you want to make a video about how great the AE86 is.. atleast use evidence from cars that are actually 16V 4AGE.
And pleaseeeee.. give credit to those people who you stole video's from.

I owned Six AE86 over the years 4 hatch and 2 coupe, along with many other more powerful cars : 2JZGTE Supras, MR2 Turbo, Celica Alltrac, Evolution 8, STI, There's something about it that keep me coming back to it again and again. To me is like a drug. The AE86 is my time machine to a simpler glorious days of my youth, playing my mix cassette tapes while hugging and diving into the corners with the 4AG-20V Scream at the top end between 2nd and 3rd with the samurai spirit in battle mode. When you coming out and survive the other end, It's a glorious feeling.

I converted the SR5 to efi and swapped the fuel tank in as well. Converted it to manual steering with a manual rack. I 20v blacktop swapped and switched it to coil on plug recently. I didn't bash the firewall either, lol.

I'm a 240sx s13 nut. owned 4 and 2 shells that were never finished. 2 srs and a Kat as well as a stocky for my first car I purchased on my own. I hated ae86s because I thought they were super over rated. I had tyranny troubles in my 240 and a friend wanted to trade his sr5 Rolla for it. I needed a daily so I said hell yes. in the few weeks I've owned it I've had more fun with a 350k mile, maybe 70hp, dog shit slow 80s car than I've ever had before. that includes my fully built high 400s whp 2006 sti, 300 Sr 240s, mid 200s Kat, and stocky. they are so damn fun I can't even explain it. they don't even need power to tear up mountain roads. also the after market support it tremendous. I can't wait to get my next one which will be a gas and then a beams 3sge. I've gone from hp hungry monsters (including a monster c10) to loving low hp nimble cars.

Like the AE86, oooh yes! that's why I had 4 of them here in the UK between 1984 and 1998! Awsome car, the original Japanese Dunlops were sh1t to the point of dangerous - zero grip even on damp Scottish roads but they were easily replaceable. The 4AGE engine was a World 1st: the 1st mass produced 16valve Twin Cam engine with efi, it also used variable valve technology which meant that it was a 12valve below it came alive at around 5000rpm with all 16 valves and a completely different sound.
Driving it in standard form, it lacked torque and needed to be driven hard to get the best out of it but the vvt made the car very driveable in town! Toyota built a Sprinter version of the engine with 145bhp (standard efi vvt was 124bhp) which ran on twin 45 Dellortos, a true 16 valver, this engine was the base for many a rally engine! Back in the 1980's the list of TRD competition parts for both Group N and Group A was endless! The Works Toyota GB car of Per Eklund was listed as 170-odd bhp with individual throttle bodies. These Gr A rally cars were giant killers!!!
Nowadays the car has a huge worlwide following and is a cult Drift car thanks to its being rwd and our UK cars having a LSD as standard, although the diff wasn't anything like as good a locker as the TRD competition units. The standard rear suspension also let the car down as it suffered massively from axle tramp! But money and access to the massive TRD toyshop solved just about anything.
Would I have another one, you bet ya! but it would have to be a mint and basically an un-modded one!

Such a great car. I'm fortunate enough to own one. By no means is it the "end-all-be-all" but more of a fun nostalgic car. The 4A-GE series of engines make for great powerplants in this car. One of the more popular swaps is the F20C, a Honda drivetrain making 240 bhp at a "similar" weight. Some parts are hard to find and some are becoming more common courtesy of well-made 3rd party manufacturers. Get one while you can, regardless of the "Initial D Tax", and let's keep them on the road.

    • @MyILoveMinecraft
      @MyILoveMinecraft 7 років тому +1

Kyle Soler it's not a law, (you have to be able to do 70 kmh by law) but it's just a thing I want for longer travels..
I'm also not a fan of having a car "just for fun". Even my current car is really low and I drive it everywhere anyway. Same thing with the AE 86. I know a rotary uses quite some fuel, but a NA rotary would be okay when it comes to reliability and fuel efficiency...
Just putting a turbo on the standard engine would be an option to, but I just think the combination of an AE 86 and a rotary would be perfect.. Light, special engine + light special car = a special kind of fun?

I bought a 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S and I'm pretty happy with it. But this video makes a good case for the 86!

I like the sprinter trueno which is the exact model used by takumi in initial d with 135bhp and 110 pounds feet of torque which is perfect for drifting .

love these cars since I was in little boy back in the early 90 the always stood out to me the sound of that screaming 4age engine pure magic nothing comes close at end of the day they were a cheap affordable little 80 sports car wasn't intended to be anything else and they achieved that above and beyond I don't think they new back then how successful it would become
