I really love your humor. I’ve watched videos of yours that I normally wouldn’t watch, just for the snark. You throw shade as much as you throw pottery! That comment about the tinsel being Kesha had me rolling.
Thanks for the glaze reviews! I always learn so much from you. I’m about to order all these cosmos glazes. I need them in my life!

Just got me some solar flare and some solar rainbow. Your video has the best advice of anywhere I've found. Thanks for it. I'm excited. I'll be brushing it on this weekend!

OK, I'm gonna trust you and use a liner glaze on a textured mug. Solar Flare is the only Cosmos glaze I purchased. They're super $$$$

This glaze reminds me of Ancient Copper. Great videos - thanks

I wish you’d done a brush on test on the light clay. 😕
Looking forward to seeing the other colors!

I bought this a couple months ago. I have not used it yet. What was your firing schedule? Did you use a slow cool?

Thanks for the demos Donte, they're very helpful. Because I make functional ware, and the Cosmos line is typically priced $10/pint higher than most other Amaco glazes, and recommend 'no liner', I decided not to buy them. Sorry Amaco (if you read the comments) but it appears like a line of cone 6 glazes to emulate less functional and durable Raku finishes. I don't know if it is the camera or the glaze, but I didn't see the crystal bursts, iridescence and color variation the glaze purports to achieve on their samples. That textured mug tho...🤌 Do more of those with other glazes.

Ok so these really didn’t turn out. But… they say to do a slow cool right? I’ve seen others get better results doing that. I can not wait to see what they do when you brush and hopefully do a slow cool. Thanks so much Dante!! Adding a liner glaze doesn’t allow for the off gassing of the glaze. You really do need to leave the other half of the pot without glaze.

I think the white one - the very first one - and the one with only half that you dipped were my favorite! :-)

Do you fire at cone 6? I am at a community studio, so i don't have much say in how things get loaded. I got the solar flare and got 1 really excellent result, 1 good result, and a few blech results. Did you notice that kiln placement impacted results? We fire at cone 6

I was wondering this too. My studio fires to cone 5 and I got a coppery brown with dark spots and just a touch of iridescence on the one piece I have tested solar flare on so far.

read the fine print on food safe. They say it won't hold up under a lot of washing. It is food safe but won't last.

Dark Star really doesn’t like even a clear liner glaze.. I tested on small pots with my clear glaze and they did fine but when I put it on a large pot with clear inside and it looked like it had chicken pox 🤦🏻‍♀️ I guess if you want to make sculptural pieces …like dragons or such, with Dark Star only on one side, then its gorgeous….my tests didn’t run. Cone 5 with 10 min hold on smooth stone.

Amaco said the Cosmos glazes are food safe but too fragile to use on usable pottery. They were designed for decorative ceramics.

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics  10 місяців тому +1

Yes I realize that after the first test.
Don't worry we have more episodes coming out that are probably more true to its use but we do still need to test it on functional wear because they vary so much.
For example dark star we can't do what I did in this video with.
But solar flare seems to be okay.

Should we just assume that you used amaco's "up/down" firing schedule?
Because I have seen, with my own eyes, Solar Flare a pitted mess from being fired with a liner glaze.

The video definitely doesn’t do the glazes justice on the colors.
