What Does a Razor Sharp Edge Look Like ULTRA Close up?

  • What does a razor sharp edge look like up close? In this video I show what a Sharp edge looks like compared to a dull edge. I wanted to take the sharpening out of the comparison, so I just used some of the sharpest factory blades I know of, and compared them before and after a lot of cardboard cutting. Its interesting what simple cardboard does to a knife edge over time! Im new to macro videography and macro photography so in time I hope to get better at lighting so we can see the edge even clearer.

      @Xp Reflex
      "A katana"
      No. Katanas are not somehow magically sharp. This razor blade is going to be sharper than just about any katana. And most katanas feature a relatively common saber/"scandi" flat grind, although sometimes a compound bevel edge. So... if you want to know what a katana edge looks like, buy a $15 Scandinavian Mora knife that is high carbon steel, sharpen and strop it, and look at it. Because the very edge apex, what you're actually cutting with, is going to be almost the same as most katanas. It's not like as soon as you curve the blade a bit and put some Japanese kanji on it and talk about cherry blossoms that the thing somehow becomes a lightsaber that can cut through tanks and machine gun barrels and deflect bullets and cut mountains in half.

    I love this new style of videos. I'm studied materials science and I wanted to go even deeper into this topic, such as using an electron microscope (overkill, you think?), and also how difference grades of steel affects the blades ability to reach a really tight apex. Enjoying this educational aspect of your videos so much!

    • @notadroid4406
      @notadroid4406 3 роки тому +2

      @@orion7741 I imagine you are right, I can only see one grind and the edge bevel is a finer polish finish. I can't seem to get a scalpel to whittle a hair - old eyes & poor hair choice may be my reason for failing here.
