Best advice I can give
1.) Start with twists with a professional beautician.- You want them to twist the edges of your hair so you don't have to have a double edge. You will never have to line it up
2.) Don't rush the "Ugly Phase"- I started with coarse hair it took me a year for my locks to form.
3.) Retwist quarterly- a good retwist should last 60-90. Give your hair time to breathe. Overdoing it will thin your hair out. Also If you wait too long to retwist, the process of separation will thin your hair out.
Retwist 60-90 as in 6-9 months?
@@yasmine-fe8nu lord no. 60 to 90 days. They will have a rug under their dreads in 6 months.
I mess with the double line not too far back but i like the clean haircut look. Plus i do my own cuts, been doing it for years.
@@rockoutro nothing wrong with it, just make sure you have one by choice.
I've had locs for 3 years, I started them after I big chopped all my hair. In 3 years I've had my hair twisted 5 times.... Not manipulating my hair constantly is the reason why in three years I have locs that are thick n healthy and already bra length ..and I dye my hair but because I don't mess with it and keep it moisturized it's growing rapidly
Thanks for jumping in . I also learned that manipulating cause weakness. I feel that’s so true because I have various size locs and the thicker ones at the roots some are still thriving; however, I learned it also depends how large or small the part was when they started. My parts started small and some medium parts. Coloring could hurt but nowadays not like before as you say, as long as one keeps it healthy and moist. I am reaching the end of my 2nd year come next month, and it looks like I have 5 inches to go to get to bra length; cool, I am trailing behind you right on time since my third year will not start until next month. Congratulations on your upkeep and success! I am happy with how I maintain as well. Because of the diametric and texture of my hair, I need to help it out a little way before it gets too long at the roots. I love how it crinkle at the roots which helps me not to re-twist the new growth that often. To maintain, I like Aloe plant , Castro oil, and Coconut oil. They are my favorites besides cold water.
That's dope. I started with long hair and im locd on June 26th for a year. I retwist every 2.5 months either myself with a soft twist or professional if I have an event. Now my hair is the same length when it was curly stretched. Shrinkage is real!!! I love up dos but my little roots can't take it do to limited manipulation so I don't do it...I can't even have my hair pulled back all day
@@elizabethbirdallgreer2773 you have wavy roots too? My natural hair is curly and wavy so I love the different textures and fullness I get before retwisting. That scalpy look isn't my thing
I actually like the afro look. Not having your dreads always retwisted to the root. I personally have semi free form and I like it. My dreads just looks frizzy since I don’t do anything to it lol
Yeah I understand sometimes it does look frizzy but you can actually just dry re-twist it and not really twist it to where it’s really really tight
Agreed.
Semi the best
You really just made me feel like I’m not crazy😂I’ve been telling my bro’s I only get a retwist every 3 months so my hair won’t thin out and yah I need to moisturize more.. you’re very informative

After 6 months of having my twist u can wash them every month it actually mats the hair even more. I wash my hair once a month and in between I wet them with a spray bottle. My dreads are pretty much fully locked other then the tips I have 4c hair and have never used product

Since using it, my scalp isn't breaking out so much and I can go about two weeks before I have to wash it again. Also, get a spray bottle and fill it with filtered water, Aloe vera juice and add some organic essential peppermint oil. Use it to moisturize your hair.
Great video!!!Helpful tips!!! Thank you!!!👏👍
Thanks for your help I’m glad I ran across your video!!!

I have been loc'd for over 2 years now. I have to retwist every month. My hair is super soft it starts to attach to other locs. Though I respect those who can get away for months to years without a retwist, sadly I cant go without it too long. 8 weeks is about as long as I can stand going without a retwist. Understand, when I retwist, my loctician washes and conditions my hair. Once I had loc'd up, I I only wash and condition my hair once a month. I do oil my hair and do a mid month wash during the summer months.
Excellent advice !!! 👍
I've done both every month to 3 weeks and now 2 months in-between retwisting. Im 1 year locd on july 26th. I died my hair last month. Honestly I treat my hair like I did when it was curly. I use conditioner, edge control only the front, and water. I spray and use oil on my hair in-between to moisturize it... baby my hair is flourishing. I just try not think too damn hard about it and just let it be. Locs shouldn't be so deep, that's why I stopped wearing weaves.
I’m so glad to hear someone call it out of what it is an didnt even know it 😆 if your twisting your hair they are defined as pretty locs when you are free forming they are dreads
How do you use your conditioner?
Great loc advice and tips.
Appreciate you Deborah and thanks for your support on my website 🙏🏽
@@ActDaVerse It was my pleasure. I have been rocking my gold jewelry. Received nice compliments. Shared your web info. Thanks

Gorgeous!
I’m 8 months in so a lot of my hair is locd. I notice a little thinning as well. My mom retwist my hair every 4 weeks but she’s mad aggressive when palm rolling lol I decided to do every 5 to 6 weeks. I’m not doing 2 months till my locs fully mature cause my hair is to frizzy and keeps combining with other locs no matter how much I pop them.🙄 as far as locking ? I have no problems thank God. The more you wet them the faster the locking process.
The beauty 🤩
Good vibes 💯💯💯
I’m getting the crochet method done today and I’ll be a year Friday June 11th , last time I had a retwist was the beginning on April. After this crochet method I’m not retwisting till next year
My hair is locd with a few two strand twist, and when I wash my hair my twists get tighter and eventually “disappear” or get so tight I can’t tell the difference between the locs or my twists.
I haven't re-twisted my locs in 3 years and I even combined some
My hair loc itself up when I do protective style. I like being notty. I’m done retwist for now
I usually go 1 month before retwist so I’m going to try 2 months this time
Ion care bout nobody journey Channel I fw this one real facts 💯 loca gang still go crazy tho Vinny
Ayyyee 👏👏👏
Your title is kinda misleading if you liked your locs twisted yes you can continue to twist your hair without damaging your hair just don’t over-twist and constantly get it twisted their are people who have years and years of locs who still twist their hair without thinning it’s not “bad” to twist your locs if your doing it correctly
Thanks for great content. You're very good looking and fun (banger) to watch. You seem as if you have a beautiful Caribbean accent underneath the American one. If so, it would be wonderful to hear your natural accent more or all the time (please). Peace & love.

I am not sure if you are just assuming dying your dreads caused them to thin. It’s a good guess, though, since regular loose hair gets drier, and often thin in some not all from the dye chemicals. However, my Locs began medium and small and there’s a variation in their consistency; that is on the onset they were thicker around the roots and now n nearing my 2nd year my locs are tapping off as they extend and grew in length. They are still thriving, and now skinny at roots; the shaft is also small but some are still medium. I never corn roll from the start. I do not like corn roll; so I believe it’s the locs natural formation due to ones texture, the depth, and generic as how free form directs the way it will go thick or small over time. I heard Locs change. Best keep moist and unnatural products out.
Had to shave my locks off on the side from constantly retwisting..... they were hanging on by a thread
Wow fam !! I should of made this video long ago
What natural Ingredients do you use to dye your hair I just saw your video today for the first time kept my attention I say that so that’s a plus we need more jewelry around and more things for our locs.
To dye my hair I use stuff you get from Beauty shops , I haven’t yet found a natural way
Try Artic Fox. It's temporary, but vegan (all natural) and they have lots of vibrant colors.
I have semi freeform and I don't touch my locs at all except to wash and oil. However, I am also 34 weeks pregnant and really want nice pictures with my husband before the birth of our baby girl. So in saying that, I will be tightening up my hair tomorrow so I can get all the loose hairs integrated back into their designated locs. Thanks for the info. Makes me feel good about how I am allowing my locs to mature all on their own. Peace.
I’m thinking about getting dread locs
The first 4 months I went once a month for a retwist.. then 6 months to a year I only went once every 3 months... After a year... I've been twice in 1 year! Lol I don't like bothering my hair
You get it! The frequency of your retwists should decrease as your locs mature. ❤️
Eyyyyyy

No I live in AZ ma’am
@@ActDaVerse it's nice looking like LA. Okay thanks.
i'm sure yo dreads will be fine tho. i've seen thinner. 🤷🏾♂️
See this why I stopped getting line ups cus i think in my opinion they just push ya hair line back
You're right. It definitely does push it back.
BINGO AND WEARING YO HAIR BACK
I never had a line up once. I let my baby hairs lock at the roots.
Just line it up once a month or so... Im a barber and been tellin niggas for years that get lineups every week, that their hairline has to get pushed back in order to keep the lineup fresh when u get it done that much... So my advice is let your hairline fully grow back in before every lineup... And youll be fine

Let's goo
I seen this at the right time because I am 4 months in and honestly I don’t feel like getting them retwisted every month anymore it really is too much tension on my scalp.
I have locks and I'd prefer to get them retwisted every 3-6 months
Bleach and Twisting made my hair fall out. 😢 It's from stress too.. now I hardly have any dreds on the top😢. Mielle oil has been good for me. I'm just gonna keep it wrapped up and oiled no more twisting.
So when you first start your locs how many months you should wait into you wash your locs????
I waited like a month or two
I have 93 locs in february 2022 i have them 5 years and at that point i'm not gonna interlock for a full year i'm just gonna wash them when it's time dry them good and that's it.
Actually mine are great and thick and I retwist once a month sometimes twice. I have a curly pattern.
Retwist leads to traction alopecia in the long run no matter if you retwtist them a lot or not cuz your scalp always going to be stressed out
@@axelpena283 I know people who have retwist for 30+ years and so far so good.
CEO Cam retwisting is great as long as you are not over doing them
@@Mrs.Coddington and Ik people who have been retwisting for years and are balding Cuz of it lil Wayne is a perfect example.
It all depends if your hair grows away from the root or not my dreads my hair grows some what away from the root so I re twist every 2 months and wash my hair every month
if i retwist my hair every three weeks on my on without combing it and only using water and oil do you think thats okay?
Noooo
I’m trying to grow dreadlocks and I don’t know what to do how do I do it?
Question: Why don’t you specifically (Actdaverse), retwist with oil?
I separate when I’m done washing but then I get the urge to retwist it because it doesn’t look perfect and I’m a perfectionist but I avoid retwisting sometimes and just separate. While my flakes are now gone, I still wash my hair twice a month because of itching. I’ve waiting out 3 weeks and that was okay and I’ve waited out a month before but my hair was screaming at me and dying for a wash both times.
I’m careful when I use oil because my hair actually produces a lot of oil or my scalp. But I get you sometimes you want to perfect everything in your hair and that could be the problem dreads thin out
@@ActDaVerse ah okay,that makes sense.
How Do You Get Rid Of The Flakes
Justice that is one of my struggles but I’m putting a video together for that , stay tuned 👌🏽
I got free form dreads over quarantine because no hair places open. Now im trying to maintain them and there SO much conflicting information out there. Like wtf am i supposed to do just to keep them from looking like frizzy spiderwebs? 😭
I feel you
Is it cooh to get a line up with dreads?
If you have real short starter locs 2 strand twist and you don’t want to retwist them at all will that do great for them or should I retwist them a couple times before stopping permanently? I was the traditional sem free form look so I was wondering if I could do it from the jump with not retwisting my shirt starter locs
Short***
In everyone's experience about how long does it take to lock up for straight ass white boy hair?? I've got it partly sectioned out an started a slight rub method but also been back combing an twist an pull methods too.. my hairs about 6 to 8 inches so far so yea im inpatient to get them started lol
Oofff
I don’t think it’s that your hair is thinning maybe a little I think it’s mostly from when you started and you had a crochet hooked those parts are gonna be thicker cause they were artificially made mine is the same way and I started from crochet
Still, the bleach and dye doesn’t help
Dreadhead sis and bruh’s ***PSA*** TRY CITRINE WATER AND YUGU FRUIT SEA SALT SPRAY FOR MOISTURIZING BEFORE AN AFTER SPLITTING AND I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR TWISTERS TOO AND YES WE CAN USE HAIR MASK BEFORE WASHING IT (🤫 a secret to laying them down by washing only~hair mask on dreads) TOO!!!!!
Jah said no razors or combs should touch the locs of the head
I use to have this problem in the beginning, going to get it retwisted every month, my a few of my front locks almost started thinning out, my hair felt like it was gone fall out and I was getting migraines a lot!
All hair will dread up, naturally. Not just na, 2b, 5c, whatever. Lite4ally, all hair typea, will dread on its own. Even of you wash it. As long as you do not comb it.

What does it mean when some of your dreads are sticking up and some are laying down
it means some stick up and some dont
it depends. if yo dreads are shorter, they may stick up if the roots are twisted alot, and they lay down with weight. since i'm guessing yo dreads are shorter by that question, the key to getting them to lay down would be to make sure the rest of the loc outweighs the roots. you may need to tie a rubberband or some dread jewelry at the end to lay it down. or put a durag on if you can.

Wait what 🤣🤣🤣... come on bro stop
Are you a good person? Most of us think we are but that is merely by human standards. The truth is God says none of us are good according to His law.
Psalms 14:3
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that does good, no, not one.
If you have ever lied, stolen, had sex before marriage or taken God's name in vain even once, God says you have sinned against His holy law and are worthy of the death sentence. In fact the very reason people die is because we sin. God pays us in death for our sin.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thankfully, God made a way for us to be reconciled to Himself and commute our death sentence by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. As Jesus died on the cross He cried out "It is finished!" In other words, the debt for sin has been paid in full. If someone pays your fine in a court of law, even though you are guilty, the judge will let you walk free. God's judgement works the same way because we were made in His image (Genesis 1:26). All you have to do to avoid eternal torment in hell is acknowledge you have broken God's law, completely turn away from sin, be baptized and trust in what Jesus Christ did for you by shedding His blood on the cross. If you sincerely do this, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which will instruct you in holiness and help you to love what God loves and hate what He hates (sin) so that you can live the life God intended for you to live, one that is pleasing to Him. Then, come judgement day you will receive the gift of eternal life! Don't wait another second. Repent and turn to Jesus today.
You really should stop calling them “dread” locs. Look up the meaning. Dread was added as a negative condemnation.
I used to think that way for a long time but I’ve read that “dread” originated from the followers of a 20th century Marcus Garvey inspired movement that penned the term dread signifying a, ‘dread, fear, or respect for God.’
@@Denzel_X - I never heard that before. I’ll have to find a reliable source and read up on it. Considering the Samson and Delilah story, I can understand the reason behind it, if it is in fact truth. However, the Bible calls them locs. Regarding the “dread” history, although it’s good to know correct history that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s history we should repeat.
