I also semi-Freeform. I have lower density hair and I didn’t like how much scalp would show when I retiwsted. I also tried to interlock for a few months, but I was causing tangles. Now only after shampooing, I two-strand twist my frizzies into my locs. I tried the braiding method, but I was never good at braiding. I finally found what works for me. I’m about 22 months into my journey. My hair is longer and thicker looking and I receive many compliments; even from people that have traditional locs 😊

I'm digging the semi-free form right now and I think it's because I've reached yet another of self-acceptance within myself. I also feel that semi-free form/free form are really unique and kind of rare when it comes to women's hairstyles and that feeds the part of me that likes to stand out.

I tend to retwist my locs every 4 months. I actually love freeform. I might even embrace it in the future !!
I am in my teenage stage -- my locs did not mature yet but I like how they look and the fact of just washing my hairs without worrying about the urge of retwist is kinda cool and relaxing.

I'm a loose natural in my late 60s. Have been natural most of my life (never had a perm) but sometime in my 50s, I simply stopped "grooming" my hair so much (twist outs, etc). My hair is soft and not very dense, so too much manipulation causes breakage and tangles. Nowadays I twist in 4 sections at night and softly brush it back into a bun or ponytail during the day. I'm focused on keeping my edges and having healthy hair.

I’m in the teenage phase (started off with comb coils), I actually love when my locs aren’t retwisted. I like the frizz, I like the loose and moisturized roots, I also like the curvy lumpy thickness of my locs.
I get my retwist at least every 1.5-2 months and by the time I get my retwist, they almost look like semi free form

My locs were long and I use to go get it retwisted once a month for years...but during the pandemic did something silly and it started to cause my roots to thin..so I told my stylist to chop some length off, then I came home and cut my locs to a bob just to be safe.
Since then I had two strand twist my locs because I wanted it thicker, then I combined them. So now I do the bare minimum. I watch my locs every three weeks, I do one loose retwist with flaxseed gel I make, oil my locs with a oil mix I make and leave it alone. I do work in corporate but they don't bother me. When my hair gets puffy I just put it in a bun and tie a nice scarf about the puff. No one can tell the difference

I’m in a similar boat as you as far as not wanting to do as much maintenance and not wanting my scalp to show. I’m also no longer in a work environment where I’m putting pressure on myself to look a certain way. My locs will be 9 years old in November and for many years I’d retwist more regularly but about a year ago I went from about 99 locs to 66 and I don’t retwist anymore. I just love it and I don’t see myself going back anytime soon. Your video on braiding the new growth into your locs was really helpful and that mostly what I do when there’s a lot of it.
    Great content as always! ❤

So glad i found ur channel.. i stRted my official loc journey May 2022 because i wanted to stop curly interlock protective styling my hair.. i wanted my hair to be free. Plus i quit my corp job of 19 years to start my nomad journey so keeping kaki hair packs was ughhhh.. i started my microlocs (455) myself and soon realized after following all the other beautifully loc'd ladies that ummm this was WAY MORE WORK!! It takes me 7-9 hrs to retie and i swear it unravels n a week..
Note i am i tropical climaes every day and am sweaty 95% of the time..
This year (past month) myroots tinning and i have lost 4 locs with a few others on the verge of slipping...i hav to go back to the states end of this month and was gonna try to find a loctician who could get me Refreshed etc... but after seeing ur video.. i think im going to let my hair rest from retieing every 6 wks and rebuild itself and see if i get more growth and the strengthen again.
I have 4CDEfg hair (real tight curl, but very soft at the root. Spongy texture but gets very dry quick)
Anyway. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Hello and greetings from Costa Rica!
I’m my case I didn’t know that I was growing semi-Freeform locs until I saw a video about it. At this point I don’t know if I’m a free form or semi free former because the only thing I do is wash my hair and separate when they start to stick a lot. I’ve been growing my hair for 1 year and 6 months and so far I love how it looks, very unique and free.
Thanks for the videos and hope to see your next video soon.

Pretty cool cause, I gonna post a kind of video for my french audience, and I will not forget to tag you, cause u are talking about interesting facts🙏🏾
Here a sneak peak (and to answer your question about maintenance):
I try to have a low maintenance for exemple:
I don't retwist my hair since last summer( for curious ppl I used water, oil or homemade aloe vera gel depending of what I can found in my room 😆and the palm rolling method )
I already used a pair of scissors to cut the start of big congo locs for different reason, and rarely separate my hair except if: I have too much headache or can't feel comfortable when I am at gym, or stuff like da. It’s better to it when the hair is wet😉
And for the label-holics and the loc police who wanna call my hair kinky afro, loc, dread, semi form or what ever do it, cause it doesn't really matter for me,I just love my hair ♥

I completely disagree, untwisted locs are usually strong. And healthy with less manipulation. I separate mine and my hair is so healthy.
Keep re twisting and you might find they’ll break off.
Lastly, I can’t stand scalpy looks and used like like my box braids after a couple of weeks of getting them done.
