    Did the pan flame catch flame?

      On this cook I did not have any issues with the drip pan. I did learn to keep the pan pretty clean if I was going to use this at a high temp. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    Try putting corn starch into a baggie add franks powder to the baggie with the corn starch and mix it up. Now add chicken to the baggie and shake to coat chicken......unbelievable crispy.....just like fried chicken!!! Try it!!!

      Robert Bouch Thanks for the great tip! A long time ago I tried cornstarch and cooked on my charcoal grill and you are right about the crispy! I forgot about this! I appreciate it and will try again soon! Cheers Robert!

    Since the heat comes in from the bottom I find that you'll need to turn the chicken skin side down and it might help get the skin crisp.

      SDSBBQ Thanks for the tip Dash! I will have to try this out. When I did the roll test, it seemed to come around, but it would make sense since the fire pot is right below the deflector! I will let you know! I am behind on my watching, but saw you had a few videos I want to watch this weekend! Cheers!

    Do you feel the smoke flavor comes though? Have heard pellet grills lack the smoke flavor of stick or charcoal burners with wood chunks.

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  4 роки тому

      Zach Dennis Not on this cook! The general rule on pellet that I am aware of is the lower the temp the more smoke, higher temps less smoke. I have been trying some other pellets as well and have noticed some smoke flavor. I don’t know if you will ever get the amount of smoke compared to stick or charcoal with smoke wood. The one benefit of the pellet is the ease of use, I call this my outdoor oven. Plug it in, turn it on to the temp you want and it is just like an oven! Hope that helps! Cheers!

      @@beers-jackofbbq Bummer. I'd like some smoke flavor. Love the idea of not having to babysit the thing. Have you tried 30 min at 200 and then bumping up the temp to crisp the skin?

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  4 роки тому

      Zach Dennis I just did some Bacon and we smoked it on 3 different grills and the Rec Tec looked to get some smoke on it. I did that on the smoke setting, which is around 200+ and then turned up. I have not tried that we chicken yet, but I believe it would add some smoke. I also picked up a smoke tub, but have not used it yet. Luckily this year I got 3 new grills, so trying to experiment with all of them. I am a big guy, but I can only eat so much! LOL I plan on doing chicken soon again, and will try that and report back!

    That was a solid run Craig. I’m not a pellet guy but I could apply the principle to my charcoal grills. How have I never heard of Red hot powder?

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  4 роки тому +1

      Dad Incredible Thanks Todd! I was not a pellet guy either, but the deal we got was too good and now I am a fan. It is like having an outdoor oven. I do have a few cooks planned that will show that! I am behind on my watching, I saw some of your videos I want to watch! I am thankful to be working through all of this, but it does interfere with my hobbies! LOL Yes, the Red Hot powder is nice, I still prefer the liquid, but this has its uses. Cheers!

    That rectec looks like a great size for a family of 4. I’m thinking about getting one. Would you recommend it? How’s the flavor of pellet grills compare to charcoal, or smoked food?

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry I missed this comment when it came in! This is a good size for a family of 4. I have done 10 lbs of chicken breast and you can see how much room you have with these chicken thighs. Easily multiple pork butts, whole brisket, etc... The grates 13.75 x 19.25 and I would say you have 18” X 26” for cooking. If you like to cook large amounts for leftovers, you may want to look at the 700. For me, I do cook large amounts, but it is just me and my wife and I have 4 other grills on the patio if I need more room. For smoke flavor, it does a decent job on the extreme smoke setting, but you will get more smoke flavor from charcoal and wood chunks. I find myself using this grill during the week because you just turn it on and you are ready to go in 15 20 minutes. Please let me know if you have more questions and I will gladly help! Cheers!

    Some really good looking thighs Craig, the chicken I mean. :) That red hot sounds great and they did look really juicy. Glad you’re getting some cool cooks on the new grill!

      Pickles BBQ I did make sure I did not show my thighs, I didn’t want that to distract away from the cook! LOL Thanks Charlie! I see myself using this more during the week because it is so quick to get at the temp you want! Have a great weekend!

    How long did it take the grill to get up to your desired temperature of 450 degrees and what was your ambient temperature? Thanks, Richard

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  4 роки тому

      Richard Sandor My guess would be around 15 minutes at the most. Sorry, but not completely understanding the ambient temp question? Let me know what you mean for sure and I will answer! Cheers!

    Great video - Do you wish you would have got the 700 or is the 590 big enough. I can't decide which to get.

    • @gabe1032
      @gabe1032 3 роки тому

      The 590 is really big. There is a ton of room. It all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. You could cook for 8-10 people on it easily.

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  3 роки тому

      @gabe1032 I agree with you, it has plenty of room and you can load it up. Cheers!

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  3 роки тому +1

      @roger Not sure why this comment did not show up on the video, but the 590 is big enough for me. If it were my only grill, I may have gone for the 700, but I have multiple options, so this works. I can get multiple rib, shoulders a very large brisket, etc... I just did 10 lbs of chicken breasts, which was probably 15 to 18 boneless breasts. Hope that helps! Cheers!

      Thanks! I am going to guess about 1/2 hour to 40 minutes. I love the Rec Tec, only thing I would like in the app is to be able to go back to my cooks for this info. I do have some other that I can do this with. Appreciate you watching and I hope that helps! Cheers!

    I've found that chicken is the best meat that comes off the recteq. Beef is okay and pork is great as well...but man does it make for a great chicken cooker. Perfection every time!

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq  2 роки тому

      I agree with you! I sometime get 10 lbs of chicken at a time and cook a big batch and vacuum seal for meals later. We have shown a video using grill grates to sear steaks and it can be done, but I have other grills I will use for searing. It also does great with ribs, pork shoulder and brisket. Not the most smoke flavor, but still makes it easy. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    Bell & Evans is some good chicken! I like to cook chicken hot and fast... starting out @ 500-550 deg for 15-20 min to get the skin to start rendering... then drop it down to 375-425 deg for the remainder of the cook. Chicken looked good with the Frank's seasoning! The RecTec is a sharp lookin' grill.

      Biggs' Home Cookin' Luckily we are close to Bell and Evans! It is great chicken! Thanks for the tips! I was actually thinking of doing it opposite, lower temps first and finish really hot. But that was just a guess on my part. The grill goes above 500. I will have to try it they way you mention! Cheers!

      I just got a nice butt comment on another video, grilling is paying off! LOL I call my 590 the outdoor oven, it is very versatile and has made me a little lazy because it is so easy to use. We are in the North East and when I can control the temps with my phone it is pretty nice. Glad the videos are helping and we will continue to show some different cooks! Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers!

      nathan almklov Actually so far it is very consistent. What I have seen so far is it is very consistent around the deflector and the outside of the grates. If there is a slightly colder spot, it is right in the center. Hope that helps! So far this grill has exceeded my expectations! Cheers!
