I love doing ribs! The Rec Tec impresses me! This size works for me, but I also have other grills if I need more space for food. Those racks were from Costco, to help you see what size they are. Good luck on your decision, you will be happy with whatever Rec Tec you choose! Cheers!
Pretty cool new pit Craig! Franks is really good, all those rubs sounded good honestly. Awesome job brother, can’t wait to see more cooks on it. Have a great weekend!
Pickles BBQ Thanks Charlie! Yes, I am sure you know, the collection of rubs keeps growing and I like to try a variety each time! This Pit has the ease of a gas grill, but still using wood! We do have a unique cook planned that we want to shoot soon. We are still working on perfecting it! Yes, you enjoy the weekend as well! Cheers brother!
d307p Thanks Dave! I have shot some chicken thighs and do have a unique one planned to shoot soon. Jack and I are actually shooting together this weekend now that the stay at home has been lifted. We will still do this safely, but it will be good that I don’t have to worry about the filming! Doing a rotisserie on the KJ.
Comparison Cooking Thanks Kevin! Whenever I do ribs, I like to try multiple rubs and combinations and always use the one my wife likes! So far the Rec Tec is rock solid holding temps and I will have some interesting cooks coming out soon! Cheers!
Nice video, ribs look awesome. Agree, Rec Tec over the Weber entry level for pellets if you go that direction. Did a rib cook myself on my 22" Weber Smokey Mountain this past weekend using Its Incredible and SNS Rocky's Rub. Topped with Killer Hogs Vinegar sauce and then PF Chang's Mango sweet and sour sauce. Turned out really nice. Thanks for the video, always a pleasure to watch!
Bamakettles Thanks! Ribs did turn out great! So far, the Rec Tec is rock solid and holds temps incredibly well! Your ribs sound great! You are the second person that has mentioned Killer Hogs Vinegar sauce, so I blame you both for costing me some money this weekend! LOL Went to order the vinegar sauce and of course bought 5 other products to go with it! Malcom has some great products!
It would be close if you went the other direction with them. You do have about 19” from front to back. I usually always do 3 racks so it works for me! Cheers!
Nice grills!! I have the exact same ones you do- a KJ, the old Weber propane looks just like mine, I have a regular Weber kettle and I'm looking at the RecTec 590 after selling my Traeger. Nice video.
Tony F Thanks! The Weber propane is the sliver, about 18 years old, but still gets used. Usually only for potatoes, corn on the Cobb and steaming seafood or vegetables, because most of the meats are done on the other grills. I gave the Weber kettle to our future son in law and replaced that with the Slow ‘N Sear Kettle. Also not shown is the Blackstone that we just got this year as well. My wife said that is enough! LOL Cheers!
What is the temperature variance from left to right? I am thinking of upgrading to the rt-590. My GMG Daniel Boone has 75 to 100 degree swing from left to right.
Sara Lloyd I have not actually put probes in to check this, but will. I did do a roll test and it seemed very consistent around the outside of the grill. It was slightly cooler right in the center of the grill. When I check with probes, I will report back to you. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Thanks! Appreciate you watching! Either would be a good choice. It would probably come done to how much you plan to cook/smoke at a time. The 590 has decent room and works for me. Good luck to you! Cheers!
Thanks for watching Edward! It can depend on what pellets you use and you do get more smoke at the low temps, but if you are used to what you get from charcoal or wood, it is not the same. I have seen some people use a smoke tube in their grills for extra smoke. Hope that helps! Cheers!
Good eye! Yes, ours is 18 as well, I think earlier in the summer. The handle was broken in a storm 17 years ago and I replaced the inners at 10 years and time to do it again. Since I have multiple grills, this one has become the sides grill, potatoes, corn on the cob, etc... Still going strong! Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Please excuse the newbie question. I know that pellet grills don't have the same smoked taste as offset grills. Can you comment on the amount of smokie taste you get from the Rec-Tec. My thanks.
No worries! I am no expert, but we share anything I can. Correct, this will not give as much smoke as an offset or even charcoal with smoke wood, but it does a decent job. The lower the temp, the more smoke you get. It does have an extreme smoke setting, that runs around 180 degrees, I usually do that for the first hour or so and then turn up to 225 or 250 for low and slow. I have not experimented with many different pellet, but that will help as well. I have been using the Rec Tec brand and it is a combo blend. When I have tried some other flavor pellets, I did notice more smoke flavor, but it seemed to take longer to get up to temp. Please ask anything you would like and I can let you know what I have learned from mine! Cheers!
Castle Hives So far the 590 is rock solid. You set a temp and it stays at that temp. I am working on getting a good sear on a steak with this using Grill Grates, but everything else is working nice. We just did a pizzas and I have done chicken, pork shoulder. I have done steaks and they turn out nice, just trying to work on the sear!
Castle Hives Nice! You will enjoy! I was not looking to get a pellet and got a great deal on Rec Tec through my wife’s company. I was amazed how much I like this now!
I think this is the number one question! LOL Actually this is perfect size for me, since I have multiple grills and usually do not cook more than I can fit on this. If this was my only grill, I may have gone for the 700. I do have some weekends where I have a few grills running doing different meats. Hope that helps! Cheers!
@@timandrews4722 I can’t really answer that properly, since I have not seen the 700 in person, but the way the 590 is built and the amount of stainless, it will last a very long time. Especially since you keep your in the garage! Mine is only going on 1 year and it does stay covered at all times not in use, but it is outside. From the reviews I have read, Rec Tec is built to last! Hope that helps! Cheers!
Crazy Dogs Thanks! Yes the ribs we good and I was pleased with my first try on this grill! So you made me look at my grill and I see what you mean about the handles! LOL I will fix that because that will be all I see when I look at the grill! Thanks for pointing this out! Cheers!
Mine reqtec stop working after 3 uses . Support can’t figure out the problem which means I’m on my own with this thing. I have a grill that does not function at all, and reqtec won’t do nothing for me. I really regret this purchase.
Warsign01 It does not appear to be double walled anywhere that I can tell. It is amazing how hot this stays after I have turned off the grill. Last night I had it running at 375 and 2 hours after I shut it off it was too warm to put the cover on. I had to open the grill to let it finish cooking off. It was about 65 degrees here while that was happening. Hope that helps!

This was also the first video I shot on my own because of COVID restrictions, so I was focused, but I usually just cook and Jack does all of the camera concerns. This video is over a year old and I have some good experience with the Rec Tec if you have any questions, I would gladly answer them for you! Cheers!
At the time we shot this, I just wanted to tell how it held temps for me and how nice it was to cook on. If you do have any questions, I would gladly answer them. Cheers!

A great video using the Rec-Tec.....a great pellet grill choice!
Thanks! Yes, this grill runs great and holds temp perfectly! It makes me a little lazy at times, so easy to just turn it on and start cooking! Cheers!
