One thing you guys didn't really touch on is the shutdown procedure I've had a few times after my cooks on my RT590 where the fire pot is still burning after shutdown and I've tried a couple of things like turning the grill down in temperature and letting it come down before turning it off aswell as making sure to let it run after taking the food out and letting the temperature stabilize before shutdown. I've still had instances where I've had to turn it back on let it reach temp and go through the shutdown again.
Same thing on my 590. I just open the lid and let it burn off and cool down. That is after I hit the on/off button to enter the fan/cool down mode. I have noticed the 590 is off but it is still smoking.. Open life. Let it burn out. HTH
Just put my RT700 together today. 220 lbs of Pellets should arrive Friday or Monday. Very easy assembly. One screw stripped out on the right leg brace assembly but it's holding. All other assembly went great between the video and downloaded manual. Looks great and is super well made. I brought the cover, be careful to unfold it completely to install so you don't tear it, treat it gentle and it'll fall over your RT700. I'm looking forward to burn-in and first cook.
I’m warming mine up for the first time. Is it normal for the lid to not be closed snug? I see smoke out of the lid rim plus the vents, which looks normal.
Just bought a 380x I see you take ash from old 380 and new non 380 s and throw it along bottom of barrel for insulation and make grease easier to clean when it drips into that ash but the new 380x has ash dump’ What’s thoughts there I want to do all I can to avoid grease fires 😳
i cant seem to get my recteq 2500 To heat up lots of smoke then it will light but the moment the hopper start to despense the pellets it stop and only smoke its new i just takenit out the craye
Y'all don't hate but I am not a big chicken thigh fan, plus it is just the wife and I, so my first cook (on my brand new RT-590) is gonna be a brisket tomorrow after I do the burn-in tonight.
Love the tips and advise. I cook tons of chicken thighs weekly for week prep food. Which I do on the Bullseye. I don’t usually do my 700 unless I’m doing big bulk of items.
Thank for the video.. I’ve already watched a few of them. I have a huge 2500 BFG sitting outside 1/2 assembled. I’m chipping away at it. Can you guys do a video on the 2500 bfg
❤love you guys! So much fun learning from you all… #smashit! Omg that looked funny but seriously friend “ smash the follow button and learn from these genius pit masters.
Great idea to produce this video! Wish this was out when I first got my 700. This will be great for my new RT-owning friends, but there are some ideas I needed to hear. Thanks guys!
Thanks for this video...great timing! Ordered my 700 last weekend, its currently in Nashville on its way to me in Oregon! Since the 700 holds 40lbs, should I plan on letting the pellets run out every two hoppers?
After you allow your pellets to run empty after every 4 or 5 cooks do you need to prime the thing with wood again like we did the before the very first burn?
@@patriciawinn173 I am assuming the answer is yes which is why no one has answered. Assuming of course that there are no pellets in the firebox or the filler tank.
I was just thinking about the suggestion for running the hopper empty to get rid dust in the auger shaft. Has any one tried using "canned air'? (the kind used for cleaning dust off electronics).
I just purchased a recteq 1200 and I can’t get any help from your office. I call and they never get back nor do they pick up the phone. Can you give me some tips on that and help me get this is my second grill and I can’t do the Wi-Fi because it just picks up my first one and I’m keeping my first one also
Question…and forgive me if this is obvious, I’m a pellet grill rookie. I just got my rt340 in the mail and have done the burn in and everything. I’m having (what I think is?) a problem where the grill is overshooting set temp by 60-70 degrees whenever I start it up. It then takes 15 min or so to drop back down to temp, at which point it holds it for the rest of the cook. It seems weird that it would overshoot by that much? A little on startup I can see, but it’s overshooting by quite a margin
While we understand that you want to seal your grill for more smoke flavor using a gasket or some type of seal, this will actually have an adverse affect. All of our pellet grills, and all pellet grills in general, are designed to work with a certain amount of airflow. Sealing the lid will disrupt that airflow and will cause your cooks to run bad. You will see crazy temp swings, your grill will struggle to get to the proper set temp, and it can even cause a smoke burp. If you are looking for more smoke, the best avenue for this is one of two things. You can place a handful of pellets on your heat deflector or purchase a smoke tube (we recommend using A-MAZE-N 1 from Lowes). This will help increase the amount of smoke inside of your grill.
Just got my 340👍 At the very end of this video you were talking about running out the hopper of pellets and you said Clean out your firebox and clean out your hopper. How do you clean out the hopper?
You can let your hopper run empty when you get low in pellets. Once you can see the auger you can vacuum any residual dust closer to the auger. If you need more help feel free to give us a call (706)922-0890
I may have missed it, however I have my 1250 on it's way. Do you brine the chicken at all? And what is the go to temp setting / time (average) to set it and forget it on chicken thighs? Thanks!
Can you guys put together a "Best of " compilation of the BBQ Dad Jody's videos. Please include fav tips but DO NOT forget funny/outrageous comments.. LOLOL Please keep the videos coming.
Could this be any better timing?!?! My first RT (590!) got delivered yesterday and I grabbed some bone-in/skin on chicken thighs for today. What's your recommendation for when to flip them? Thanks!
We read your mind! 😉 No need to worry about flipping those chicken thighs, just let the RT-590 do all the work for you! Don't hesitate to reach out for any other questions & welcome to the recteq family! 🤘🔥
@@recteq I just ordered my 590 and should be here shortly. Ironically, I just bought some bone in chicken thighs at Costco so I'll be using those as my first cook. So glad you guys are in Georgia as I'm proud to support a Georgia based company!

Waiting on my brand new 1250 to arrive. Can't wait to get it fired up. Also have several Thermoworks devices. Keep up the good work.

In the market for a grill. Can I do “regular” barbecue with an off set smoker?
Should the grill barrel be open as the grill gets up to heat ? Or only open until the smoke gets rolling ?

who is the best mfg. of wood pellets ?
Do you recommend placing a high temp type of seal around the interior?

I just bought my second 340, would you recommend washing the grate after each cook or just scrapping it clean with a wire brush? thanks
Try using a brush that doesn't have metal wires. Scrape your grates with a wooden grill tool so the wires don't break off and get in your food.
I turned my horn handles out cause I'm a bad boy 🤪 😎 Love my 590!

You can brine for a few hours or just rub and let setup for a day. Run it at 400° close to hour or 175 internal temp
Please help me out.... is the recipe/directions available somewhere ?
