The interior looks amazing, and even though I've watched Arriety more than once I hadn't noticed the different wallpapers, it added a cozy/creative vibe to your design. I kinda want different wallpapers now lol
Will try to use wallpapers more often down the road :) Haven't watched the movie yet, but it looks like they are mini people living in some sort of box, which is extra cool.
something that I always thought about this things in the house so we know someone is really living there, is that nothing ever changes, I know is a lot of more work that won't make any difference in the game, but I think it would be really cute if the things changes a little around like two times at day something moving place, so we can really see people do stuff and live their lives, just a tiny thing even :) I love your work!
Totally agree. It might be one of those things we add to the game over time - to give a greater sense that the open world is alive. Appreciate the idea!
I kinda feel like there should be a separation between the grass and the overgrown moss on the house. Maybe like a stronger shadow or it gradually turning a different color just so we know where the grass(floor tiles) ends and the moss(wall tiles) starts! Love your work tho! Super inspiring!
Another great thing about moss besides looking super cool, is that while a tree absorbs like, 1 ton of carbon in 40 years, moss can absorb 50 tons of carbon in 1 year. I don’t know how mush moss that is, but still. Trees aren’t going to save the world, moss is
these are fr my favorite types of videos! so relaxing and interesting to watch! you’re game really stands out from the rest of the top down RPGs because you put so much details into the little things instead of copy and pasting houses all over the map! can’t wait to see the success of this game keep ur up
An idea that, I think, would amazingly improve the game atmosphere, and bring the game to life is: Point of view locations, a location when stood on shows and art of the location, like the entry door, windows, the fish market or anything you chose. Of course not all areas have to have this, only unique ones. Hope you get the idea Nice video nevertheless, still hyped for the game.
Not a bad idea, but would be pretty time consuming. We were initially planning something like that for when interacting with NPCs, but will have to see how much time we have to work with. Could also be a feature added after the initial release :)
Another amazing video!! I love seeing behind the scenes, I think its so great that you just get stuck into it and sort out the little details later. I wish that was something I was better at doing.
Thanks :) I've gotten used to the habit of just rushing in and drawing things. These drawing won't start to look good until you are like 80% done, and since it's digital art, it's easy to fix things if parts of the drawing don't look good.
This art piece somehow makes me feel so connected to a fantasy land where every thing is calm and naturally aesthetic giving off a cozy and welcoming feeling.
I've never been this excited for a game release, take all your time you need if you so you can get that satisfying finish. I will check the channel from time to time to know if it's released yet. Can't wait~
The whole space you created looks amazing! I didn't know just how much charm different wallpapers on the same wall would add to a rustic home! Love the design of the house, especially the upstairs. When I see the grass-covered roof It makes me think that would be a very cool place to so sit down and chill on with a drink or a book :)
loved this video so much, i always feel like i'm learning new ways to design spaces when i watch your videos! if you haven't already done so, i would really recommend looking at 'gamer set up/room tour' videos for inspiration re: the cyberpunk elements. imo, adding colored lighting and neon decor to anna-may's room would really help sell the 'futuristic gamer' aspect and also visually set her room even more apart from the rest of the house, with all of its natural lighting and color palettes.
Awesome design and video, as always! This is my comfort channel, ESPECIALLY after a long, stressful day. I'm glad the channel is growing and can't wait to play the game!
this is so beautiful and i can see how much hard work you've put into this game. I hope you won't lose your motivation my dude, don't forget to take breaks to avoid being burnt out.
Amazing job Noah, this game will be timeless I feel like. A game you can always return to, if you wanna wind down, and relax, while still be entertained!
The beauty of your creations never cease to amaze me. I could watch your videos all day. I love how much thought goes into every single aspect of creating the building/environment. You are incredibly inspiring!
Hey, I feel kinda bad for giving you ''advice'' since you know what you're doing :D, one thing I noticed tho is that the interior looks like there's no one actually living there - everything is clean, tidied up and almost seems like it's meant for some showcase of the house. I would imagine the gamer girl room more dirty since she's busy playing, her bed not being so made up. Downstairs there's maybe broken cabinet in the kitchen, some stuff just lying around on the floor cause no one had time to put it back and overall more imperfections...in my opinion doing this could bring just a little more immersion or storytelling elements (or call it whatever you want :D) I hope you kinda get the idea where I'm going with this. (maybe you meant to do that and this is just placeholder or maybe the family is very strict and cares about that stuff but even then :D) Anyway, love the progress and can def see you improving.
I wish there could be more flower types and perhaps more bushes with flowers etc, most Ghibli movies have an amount of flowers that just makes it magical
I feel like a wilder range of color for small things such as plates, mugs, cups or glasses would sell this even more to me. Give it that feel of everything being secondhand or gifted to them, but that's just a nitpick I love the designs you end up with!
Whoooooo a new videos! Two things that I thought didn't quite work or stuck out as bothering me eye. First, the ground on the outside seems to just flat out swallow the house. Just based on lighting alone, I think one would expect the transition to the wall to have some shading difference to the flat ground that points to the sky. As is, it feels more like the house is just sinking to the meadow. The second point was that there was light shining in from both sides of the house on the top floor at the same intensity. While I get why - outside being far more brighter - it still made it feel like there was a disconnect on the decision where the main light source should be. But what a beautiful house regardless!
I cant imagine how much work goes into this, I love all the cozy vibes of the entire game ;; personally for me I wish the character models would have as unique of a vibe as the rest of the world, they seem a bit stiff in proportions compared to the vibrant and stylized world. The art for the close up shots (I'm assuming for conversation) looks INSANELY amazing though. This is really a work of art and I hope you have fun doing the rest of this, can't wait to play it :')
HEY, THE HOUSE INTERIOR LOOKS AMAZING, I LOVE THE WALLPAPER, IT BRINGS SO MUCH LIFE TO THE AMBIENCE. IT WOULD BE COOL IF THE CHARACTER'S ROOMS WERE BLOCKED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME, SINCE NO ONE LETS A STRANGER ENTER THEIR ROOM, AND AS THE PLAYER DEVELOPS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CHARACTERS, THE HOME'S ROOMS WOULD COME TO OPEN REVEALING NEW THINGS LIKE LORE, ITEMS , SKILLS AND EVEN RECIPES.
Amazing and lovely! Two random ideas, a small Irish type thick window in the master bedroom over to the left of the wall so as to fit just under the sloped roof and/or a small rounded dormer window (that you cannot see from the inside but sheds light) in the upstairs bathroom. I stayed in an Irish farm cottage a while back that had a small rounded dormer window in to the bathroom that had a slow leak. Drip, drip, drip... in to a potted plant the owners had put there! Random thoughts tho! I have wishlisted this on Steam, and plan on just wandering about, exploring.
Those details definitely makes the world more immersive. Would be cool to add these kind of details in a final round of polish before release. Appreciate the comment!
I really like your videos, especially these dev logs. Hope you and your team are doing well! I look forward to seeing the character redesign thing that you talked about in the future. Have a good day.
Im an architect myself and i cant wait to play this game, i love the aesthetic vibe it gives and admire the explanation of making the whole game. Very inspiring, hope everything goes well
I really love the interior but I think that maybe you should brighten up the colors downstairs. It looks a bit constraining and unwelcoming and i don't feel like it really gives out that homely vibe the exterior exudes. Just a tip and I could be wrong but yeah.
This is a silly little pedantic comment from a fellow architect, but the both timber cross-braces on barn doors should be going like in the letter Z, since the hinges are on the left. They should be transferring the load from the top right corner (which is unsupported) downwards onto the side that is hinged. Currently only the bottom panel is structurally stable 😅
Maybe if you dislike the ground floor too much you could do it in a similar way to how you created the interior of the bathhouse. By adding beams at the edges you could also maybe frame the room by making the beams look overgrown just like the exterior.
wow. i've never seen the process for creating the art for a pixelated rpg like this. it looks awesome, might buy the game just for the aesthetics alone lol
Loving the house and interior designs, it's amazing how quick you came up with the wallpaper designs👏👏. Edit: For some reason the big gap between the stairs and the kitchen wall to the right is bothering 😅
I love this so much! It's always so interesting and inspiring to see your design process videos. Not gonna lie, I think that you could get away with adding more knick knacks and stuff to the interior! Maximalism for the win

My pleasure :) Glad you are enjoying these!

I love how you approach the design from a genuine architectural pov, thinking about the actual usefulness of the house
