God, please! I really hope you're successful with this game. I would definitely pay for it! It looks freaking beautiful and I absolutely love cooking and open-world games, so this is literally what I am looking for!!!! Subscribed!
Glad you like the idea! Lots of work ahead but I'll try to keep frequent updates :)
Go pledge in the kickstarter. You can pledge the alpha access to play it early. That's what I'm going for. Can't wait for this game.
Me too, it looks awesome
check out Breath Of The Wild
IKRRRRRRR it's a pixel art and a open world game what a dream come true
I really appreciate the attention you give to realism that might not necessarily be needed in a fantasy world. I've found myself wondering where the people poop within the world of a game I'm playing far more often than I'd like to admit. Even if they're just decorative, seeing facilities that you'd expect to see really helps immersion and adds so much more life to an area.
Doing an architecture video, I'd be strung alive if I forgot to add bathrooms :)
Yeah, this is one of those things that really make a world "lived in": where do all these daily problems get solved? It reminded me of a really good way to design a DND dungeon or any sort of "dungeon" setting:
There is rarely a labyrinth of monsters and treasures made specifically for people to come and raid them. What if it's a former monastery taken over by a necromancer, who raised all the souls in the graveyard? Where would these people have slept? Where would the treasure be kept? What sort of valuable items aside from plain currency would you get from this? How would it be designed, like how you could potentially stow a large supply of useful herbs if the party stumbles upon the kitchen stockroom?
@@ruffethereal1904 i like the way some fantasy stories have turned on the idea that the dungeon keeper is actually a buisness owner making money off the adventurers coming and dying/abandoning their equipment. And only the really strong adventurers can turn a profit from it. So because it is made for adventurers to wander, loot and potentially get killed, its architecture makes "sense"
I always find pixel art games gorgeous. I'm not sure why, but they are looking more cozy than games with realistic art style.
Also if you ever feel the need of a thunderstorm, I would think of adding wind effects such as slanted rainfalls or hustling wind when you stay indoor. If it's happening at night, an almost pitch dark setting with flashes of light from the lightning would make the weather even more atmospheric (almost like thunderstorm in Terraria).
Suggesting this since I love the vibes and comfort I get from a thunderstorm.
Thunderstorms is a great idea! Would be cool to have. Thanks for the feedback!
I actually tend to hate the pixel style it just doesn’t appeal to me but this guys stuff is really pretty. Edit: I play old school RuneScape so my opinion on graphics should be taken with a grain of salt.
@@maxcheese382 Graphics and art style are different tho, right?
@@dibbidydoo4318 I mean I think there is technically a difference but I was using them interchangeably here. I probably shoulda said my opinion on art styles should be taken with a grain of salt.
As a huge Stardew Valley Fan I would love to buy your game when it officially releases. Great work!
The aesthetics of this game are incredible; really hope I can play this someday..!
I love that, on top of immersive and well-thought out environments - we also get charming, stylistic character portraits that ooze personality! Makes me really excited on what more the writing and narrative *could bring to the table* (get it).
I wish you best of luck and success!
Haha good one :) My character designer will be happy to hear!
This type of creative development is what makes great games great. I think pulling real world inspiration into your game gives it a powerful layer of depth. So many devs or creatives cite work in their own specific field as their inspiration but the best always pull from all the mediums life has to offer and then condense that into their craft.
When you put the overlays over the wood flooring, it reminded me of the game octopath traveler! They mix pixel art and overlays and it just so eye-catching and attractive. Definitely makes the art pop much more than it's original form
This entertains and at the same time teaches me on prep. and designing my architectural plates. Thank you!
Yesss, first time seeing the title and thumbnail...spirited away vibes ❤️❤️❤️
I love how technical you get with the planning for the design and layout of your buildings. I can't wait to play this game!
OMG this looks beautiful, I'm so happy for your progress and soooo excited to actually play it. I've been trying to make a webcomic for like 2 years now and I just never finished a whole episode bc I was so unhappy with my art, but since I found your channel I got inspired to try pixel art, cause I always loved it so now I'll give it a shot. Your tutorials are also really good thanks for the amazing content and I wish all the success
Thanks and glad you got your inspiration back :) Wish you luck with your webcomic! Art just takes time and practice. I'm sure you'll get there!
Love your art style. Much better than I've seen with anything else. I didn't realize how useful being an architect could be for game development. Makes sense in hindsight.
your ability to explain your thought process so well, the great art and the overall vibe of the game/video is just *mwah *. This is great!
I sincerely LOVE how you explain the design and how you relate to real-world designs and relate to what you studied and how school exercises reflect your current work.
ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!
Dude this is gold... I'm not even far in and I've already saved this video and I'm stopping to comment. When making games, there are so many random things from other fields you can benefit from... you HAVE to know just how useful this is to look through the perspective of someone who knows architecture, right?! Ah, and then seeing you messing with the rectangles in 3D showing us HOW you do this step by step. Chef's kiss.
Now I'm trying to think of games that don't have SOME type of building, thinking how many situations in a game involves you being in a room of some kind, how the layout of rooms in relation to each other just "makes sense" in certain games and how this relates to the function you are talking about (so now you can break down games you like and know WHY you like it), how that makes it much easier to create memorable locations and how thinking in this way is a huge asset for creating memorable locations, when you mention history how that impacts world building AND helps to make memorable locations, how it can be used to help create a narrative (and anything narrative added that isn't text is almost always a win), etc.
THAT'S the kind of shit... an approach, a mindset, and armed with a few "best practices" tips that can save you time and end up with a better product to boot, and the less you know of or have thought of it the more you have to gain and very quickly (newbie gains for games).
I subbed for a pixel art video obviously I backed the right horse.
I love this art and this video, specifically the glorious character portrait for Aylin. Whenever you remake the character sprites this game will be a visual master piece at every frame.
The only problem I had, and this is a small misunderstanding, was the bathing room's over hang from the rock. Water is pretty heavy, are they supporting the tub off the end? Is the end of the room not actually for baths but instead various other services?
Also, will you share the interior design of Aylin's Chamber? I would like to see what you make specifically since your using Spirited Away as your guide and the witches chamber was my favorite part of that film visually. What goes into a Androids room? How would they decorate?
Glad you like the character!
In terms of engineering, it's not really hard to do a suspended pool like that. There's actually a bunch of them even in my city (Vancouver). Just gotta make sure the structure is designed correctly.
I'll eventually do Aylins room. Gotta finish some other things first, but I'll probably post it in a Devlog or on twitter in a month or two :)
One thing that could be awesome is giving the bathroom's ceilling some kind of liveliness : imagine the wood branches moving as you move the camera (to try to respect the perspectives) ;)
Ah yes, might be cool to implement some kind of parallax in the interiors. I'll definitely give it a try later down in development
@@PixelArchitect Places with that effect will be people favorite moments of the game
I think a small cutscene that plays when you walk up to the bathhouse the first time, would fully present its beauty
Your architecture background really shows in the style of your game. It was the first thing i noticed when i discovered your videos. I honestly can't wait until this game is ready to be played.
Wow. I randomly found your channel and just watched like 8 videos in a row. You're a really talented and dedicated person.
Not only do you manage to produce an interesting video, you also include facts and knowledge in a way that it makes me curious to learn more.
On top of that, you're designing a fantastic game idea.
I'm amazed.
as an artist that struggles with designing spaces, this video was so nice to watch. it's interesting to see your architectural approach and explaining every part in your design process. loved this video!
Just wonderful, your videos should be basic lectures for game designers. I work on a little game myself and I learn tons of stuff just from listening to you. Thanks so much for sharing. If you kickstarter goes online I will help share it a lot.
Really appreciate it! Hoping to contribute some knowledge into the games space in architecture and level design at least :) With VR becoming better, and the starting of the metaverse, there's a lot of exciting possibilities to create really amazing spaces since there is no limits on physics or budget.
I'm currently playing Eastward and I find myself stopping in front of each building and just admiring the pixel art on all of them. Thank you so much for you insights on all of this!
oh my god this is beautiful… i’m an architecture major at a university and you remind me of one of my old professors i had last year! i specialize in autoCAD and i built a replica of howl’s moving castle in AutoCAD and I brought it over to inventorCAD and 3D printed several parts of it. This video gave me so much serotonin and i love your work! you’re a huge inspiration to a lot of my friend in my major as well as others! please keep up the amazing work and stay motivated! u got this!
The level of detail and effort put into this whole area is breath taking. Initially I thought this was just a pixel art video which already peaked my interested, but then found out it's also part of a game! This is incredibly beautiful and I'm so glad I came across it. Looking forward to seeing more from you and your team!
I love pixel art so much. And I really enjoyed to see the whole design process. I'm quite sure that I will buy your game when it's ready.
I really love your style, your ideas and overall the concept of your game! I really wish you all the success you can have, and believe me, I will buy this game as soon as it gets launched! Your art as well is really cool, and I love the architecture you put behind it!
Really appreciate it! Took a break from the architecture profession since building something is really slow and there a lot of gatekeepers if you want to make anything interesting. Wanted to experiment with architecture in games, and people can enjoy it right away
@@PixelArchitect totally get it! I really hope your game gets all the recognition it needs! I don't understand how you have done so much progress in so little time, but definitely that makes me want to buy it even more!
It just amazes me how calming these videos are. Hope your game succeeds
Sharing your design processes is an invaluable tool for artists trying to grow. Thanks so much
The verticle structure also helps add to the sense of age; its a building rich with history, reuse, and rennovation
Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. Even just having the lexicon to talk about architecture in these terms is amazing and very helpful for reapproaching a design process for architecture in pixel art.
This is absolutely beautiful! Every little detail and inspiration that I had throughout, you ended up adding within like 40 seconds haha, except one: the baths overlook a forest, so the light coming in should be a bit green-tinged. Would also tie together the colour scheme with the rest of the building.
Also, if the bathhouse is supposed to be a community hub and a place where people in town relax, might be interesting if NPCs only reveal certain information there, whether through mini-games, cut-scenes, whatever. It would become a very real hub for the player character if regular visits were needed to make stories progress, and also would underscore the role of Aylin in the town.
Thanks Caleb! You are right, the baths windows should show more of the exterior and have light rays.
NPCs revealing certain info there is a great idea! Definitely pushes you to go to the baths more.
@@PixelArchitect whatever suggestions you take or don't, please know how inspiring and informative this channel has been, and how much we're looking forward to the game! keep up the amazing work!
Wow! This was so fascinating to watch. I have never really seen the process of designing a building (as I am more of a character artist), I found it very interesting and inspiring. You put so much effort and thought into the design, I can appreciate that a lot.
It is always a delight listening to you explaining architectual concepts. I am really looking forward to your game!
I love this so much!! It's amazing how you're bringing us along your journey of discovering the game for all of us to play, it's like we are all in this together. It feels so organic and real and the game is looking so so incredible..the setting is immaculate. can't wait!
I don’t think you realize how amazingly talented you are! I’m starting my very first game and you have already inspired me so so much! I’m really into the pixel art style and I thought everything I was creating was so cool but now I’m not so sure lol! Keep it up, you will go far!!
saving this video for later when i'm unmotivated/sad because your voice is so soothing
I was an Interior Architecture and Design student... and this is exactly the type of stuff we would do to create our space... I miss it so much... It's so freaking cool/fun to creatively dictate a space.
I'm literally in love with open world games and would definitely play this!!! IT LOOKS AMAZING! I love the attention to detail and cannot wait until I can get my hands on this game! wishing you all the luck, and will definitely be keeping up with the development process I find it super interesting!
Man, I've been avoiding this video for past 2 weeks, but wow I'm really glad I watched it. I love your architectural input. You make me feel like I'm playing the game. I'm really excited to play it myself. Actually all your videos are awesome ❤️
This random 6-pm-thuesday-afternoon youtube find had no business being THIS beautiful to watch. I am in awe.
I think it’s a good sign that after not following your work for a while, I instantly recognized which youtuber indie game devlog series this was from based on the art style in the thumbnail alone
This was super interesting! Thank you for going through the whole process! You did a wonderful job of showing off how much skill is required at each step to arrive at a cohesive design. And you've also made wonderful decisions to make impact without getting sucked into less impactful details. Good job!
There literally isn’t anything more beautiful than this
2 mins in and I'm already in love with your such visual explanations. You deserve all the fans and all the love!
Brooo this is amazing, I’d love to see some bathhouse rpg elements implemented! Like maybe in a sequel or preferably this game you could also work as bath house staff like in spirited away
I'm seriously in love with your professionality, it really looks super charming and im so excited to play the game. Keep up the awesome work!
Whooooooooa. This is one of the coolest projects / videos I’ve seen on UA-cam. Not only is the final result beautiful, but the care and architectural knowledge employed here is phenomenal. Major props dude. Holy cow
Haha thanks Michael. Means a lot :)
truly learned a lot, not only in game development, but also in architecture design. To be honest, I'm beginner in the major of landscape design, so I really appreciate your work and hope to get some experience.
and you do know how to integrate the architecture workflow into game👍
OMG, thanks so much for this video! I'm an architectural student and just started seeking potentialities in making pixel games. I've watched a lot of pixel art tutorials but was still lost about the progress of innovation. The way you illustrate how you turn conceptual rhino massing into a 2d drawing just amazingly opened up my horizon. I guess, for me, thinking as a pure artist doesn't as helpful as thinking as an architect. Great video! Can't wait for the release of Chef RPG!
Glad this was helpful Rui! I remember starting architecture school was very exciting. It is different than pure art, and I'd say it takes some time to become a good designer. If you enjoy design and want to improve, architecture competitions are a great resource if you have the time for it. Otherwise, studio professors will beat it into you hehe
Awesome video! I love how you’re applying real architectural principles to the layout of the building. And as always, your pixel style is beautiful, and full of personality and intrigue.
I do wonder if the exterior could use a bit more color contrast between the roofs and the steam pipe. As for the interior, I was curious what the modern, metal parts would do. Right now it feels like they are decorative elements without a clear function. Have you considered doing more with the bathhouse theme in terms of its water and steam supply? It would be cool to see some glass pipes or metal pipes with a few windows where you can see water or steam going through. Maybe add a few pressure and temperature meters. I think you can communicate more about the functionality of the bathhouse by having some of the decorative elements contribute to that narrative. To that end, the bathhouse’s location next to the water is ideal to start communicating that narrative. Maybe add some pumps and pipes, where you can see the water from the lake being pumped into the bathhouse. Maybe even add a water wheel on the left!
Anyway, I don’t play games anymore, but seeing the world you’re creating makes me reconsider. I’m in awe of what you’ve accomplished. Keep it up!
Glad you are liking the progress! Have you ever been an architecture guest critic? Your comments are very good and sounds like something my professors would have noticed. You are right, I think there is more possibilities to push regarding the water and steam & the contrast with the high tech machines. Will probably come back to it eventually and spruce it up :)
@@PixelArchitect I haven’t. My background is in graphic design. But similarly, we make considerations of utility, aesthetics, color theory, contrast, composition, etc.
these are amazing suggestions
Aweomse! It’s looking better and better every single video. Is there anything else you’re blogging updates on (e.g. twitter, instagram, maybe even twitch)?
Thanks! I have a Twitter if you want to follow :) I'll be posting more frequent updates on there since videos take a while to make
Added this to my wishlist on Steam, and will buy the alpha or full release as soon as it's going live. Take your time with it, no rush. Looks amazing!
The bathhouse looks wonderful! I can’t wait to play the early access version!
A tip! You should black out the bathroom/change room stalls when looking at them from an outside perspective. But when entering the units, the shadows lift so you can properly see. Or something along those lines to make the areas seem more private.
These baths look fantastic! Really like how you explained your process, you can tell it was a labour of love.
Sheeeshhh, the quality is just soooo good, it really satiates my witchbrook crave, thanks a lot man
Oh my God!! We´ll have bathing suits!! Love it! And I really like how you illuminated the floors. I´m really anxious of having this game!! Thanks for sharing this! As an artist it really helps to understand how to create building and make them feel real.
Please make more videos like this where you go through your thought process to make this. It is super interesting and I'm excited to see this game come to steam!
Clicked on this video to see you create a pretty looking building, but ended up learning about architecture and design as well! wonderful video, I do really appreciate the thought and skill you put into creating something meaninful and unique. The end result looks amazing! I would love to see more of these kind of videos about achitecture and your design proces for more buildings / areas!
i was scrolling through youtube and then you posted!! great job as usual, the game is looking so beautiful!!
I love this, it's gorgeous. I could have watched another 20 minutes buildings out the rest of the bath house.
First time watcher and I am so glad I found this right now. Today I had the first panic attack in months and your video is so calming to watch. Thanks a lot
Hope you are doing better :) I didn't know my videos could be calming but really glad it helped!
Looks awesome! The design is incredible and you draw these beautiful scenes with such ease! The bath is already extremely cozy.
Seriously keeps looking better and better! 😍
Wow, what an impressive video! Our teacher send this to us as an appendix to our level design lecture and it's really inspiring
and btw your voice is really calming bro
English isn't my first language and right now I'm truly noticing my limits because I'm in complete awe of your work!
Thank you for showing us your design process, it was rather insightful and helped me wrap my mine around designing environments for my own projects.
Oh my god what a sensational video full of details and subtleties that create such amazing result. I'm stunned with the ammount of care and attention you put into every detail, specially with the use of references and the meticulous way you matched the structure and its owner. I personally know very little about composition and creating scenarios, but with the little information I have, it's easy to see how talented and dedicated you are at this. Not only that, throughout the video you also made a few concepts clear, which allow me to appreciate your work even more. Keep it up, man!
Thanks Enzo. Really appreciate it :)
No how long it's been this is very beautiful work and effort is really something to respect
Oh my god this looks amazing! The art and careful thought that goes into every aspect and detail is simply fantastic. Shut up and take my money!
I'm so impressed with your process, proper world building. Best of luck with the game release!
As an architecture student myself this is kinda helpful and i love the way you explain everything and i love the pixelart aswell :D
I feel like some counter to greet the guests and a theoretical place for them to leave their belongings/coats are missing. I am really looking forward to the full release for this
Congratulations for this video! I haven't any idea about building design, but these 20 mins have caught my attention as never before. Keep going mate! 💪
As someone who is studying interior design, this gives me a more enjoyable way to learn a lot about space planning.
i love pixel art sm and ur style is so beautiful and relaxing i’m sure your game will attract lots of people c:
You have incredible talent and creativity, there is no doubt in my mind this game is going to be wildly successful.
Love the insight on how to design better spaces with people in mind. As someone NOT from an architectural background, this is super cool to learn about
This game is absolutely gorgeous. Very good job, dude.
I've also seen the food designs on this game and they are just as beautiful as this one
You should make a pixel architectural game! Something like having a bunch of exterior and interior assets. Then having the ability to walk around it like you do in this video. I would definitely play and pay for that kind of game.
This is a lovely video. I really liked one detail, the light coming out from the changing room to the lobby! Added even more emphasis to the main attraction of the bathhouse.
your videos always feel so soothing
i remember when i was young back in the early 80s just dreaming of stories and gaming coming together in new ways -30 years later im watching a young gamer /story teller/artist basically using gaming software and art software to make another game and make a mini show to share that process = so awesome !!
As an architecture student I find your process so refreshing really inspiring great job!
Everything you make is just so stunning
This is beautiful just as art and social media content showing your artistic process, but it's also a great way to advertise your game and humanize its development. Quite an agile and wise approach!
What a lovely insight into the creative process. It's just as beautiful as the finished product imo
I cant wait for this game to come out! This game is putting all my favourite things together!
Your pixel art gets better every video. I'm excited to see this game completed!
This is really looking fantastic. I’ve worked on multiple top down 2D pixel games and none of them thought stuff out as much as you do. Great job!
I'm a graduate architecture student and your videos are SO INSPIRING! I hope your game is a huge success, and I wish you the best of luck. Thank you and looking forward to more videos!
Wow, that looks quite amazing. I also liked the narration tone, it was relaxing but never boring, nice job!
this really brings me back to spineworld days. i've been looking for a similar game so this was pure bliss! absolutely gorgeous details, composition, style and vibes overall.
Those are some truly beautiful pixels!
Never thought I would come across a video like this but this was so informative and also taught me some things that I would probably use in the future even if I don’t do game development or architecture. Also the game looks stunning and I’m so excited to see more. I’m totally going to be playing!
I just found out what I'm gonna spend my night bingeing 😍 I've never been into pixel-art games and this video single-handedly changed my mind.
It's a very pleasant experience to watch your tutorials, Prelude from Bach themes playing in the background is very calming.
You have very good interpersonal communication skills.
Your Design process is absolutely awesome, at what you had a doing is absolutely gorgeous.
By subscribing I'm hoping to learn more but also have a very pleasant time by I just watching for content.
The game look absolutely amazing, and I wish you the very best for the launch.
Really appreciate it Olivier :) Nice to hear these videos have been helpful and calming
Once again, amazing. Regardless of the success of the game, you know your stuff and hopefully a big dev sees this
Wow this game looks incredible, I really hope you can make the game play as cozy as you make the visuals. Definitely had some spirited away vibes in that bath house.
