I really love their cover of this Screamin Jay Hawkins song. I think I first heard it in junior high and I've loved it ever since. It's so atmospheric.
Want to see an amazing live performance of this song? Watch Creedence Clearwater live at Woodstock 1969! Even better than the studio version you just reacted to.
John Fogarty’s voice can drill a hole straight into your soul. Love love love this song! CCR is always amazing but this song is just over the top!! 🌺✌️
This may be my favorite song of theirs. John Fogerty and CCR never disappoints! Big fan from their first song which was a hit Suzie Q in 68. I know you both dug The Night Time is the Right Time. Songs that haven't been reacted to or rarely are Up around Bend, Traveling Band, Cross Tie Walker, Lodi, Commotion all very good. Also did a cover of Jambalaya, old Hank Williams song was fantastic. Keep up the good work!!
This song was originally written by Jalacy "Screaming Jay" Hawkins in 1956. This song was a Shock Rock classic before the genre even was called shock rock. ua-cam.com/video/H_dljGbYcCw/v-deo.html This is Screaming Jay Hawkins 45 recording from 1956. There are some videos of "Screaming Jay" Hawkins doing live versions of this song. I do really like the way Creedence Clearwater Revival's version too especially the guitar solo.
I remember lying on the floor as a small kid, Jay came on with the bone in his nose and his crazy look in his eyes and I remember having to get up to go sit on the couch with ma and pa! It's one of those things that sticks in yer head from childhood, cuz it did scare the shit outta me !
I am an experienced guitar player and teacher and this solo by John Fogarty is in my top 10 of best all time electric guitar solos. Just the mood it evokes and the rawness of his attack on his gat. Brilliant stuff!! Never fails to take me somewhere!
CCR has always been one of my favorite groups. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. All their songs are great. You guys have done a few of there songs already but lots left such as Proud Mary", "Lodi", "Green River", "Commotion", "Cotton Fields", "Midnight Special", "Travelin' Band", "Who'll Stop The Rain", "Up Around the Bend", "Run Through The Jungle", "Long As I Can See the Light", "Suzie Q", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" etc.
This was one of the first 3 or 4 LPs that I bought back in 1970, and I didn't realize at the time that I was listening to some of greatest rock ever - other albums were by Chicago, Blind Faith, The Who.
I like these videos, we need more of this. Let's focus on what brings us all together. I think we all can relate as far as how a song like this makes you feel, regardless of where you're from or what you look like.
John Fogerty has some good solo songs, too. His cover of My Toot Toot is a fun Cajun flavored song, and Big Train From Memphis has an Elvis sound. Mr. Greed, Centerfield, Searchlight, and The Old Man Down the Road are good too.
I wanted to learn how to play guitar before I turned 60. So I bought a handmade seashell pink metal flake guitar. I made my goal and this is the song I choose, played rhythm, my nephew on drums, my cousin on bass and his son playing lead, on stage, it was a blast.
Between the years of 1969 and 1974 there were monstrous bands producing albums like the Beatles, Led Zepplin, and the Doors. Yet which band sold the most albums during those years and if you guessed CCR, then winner, winner, chicken dinner!
Hello you two, it's nice that you always put in from Creedence Clearwater Revival. I have a great tip for you. Listen to Pagan Baby, great rhythm, great vocals by John Fogerty, great guitar sound and solos. The song is hidden on the album Pendulum from 1970 and should be paid more attention. I listen to you more often, greetings from Germany, Helmut, big CCR Fan since 1968
Lov ccr. Its just hard to think i first heard them over!! 50 yrs ago! Oh well, they still sound great after all that time. Makes me smile to see all the young ppl find them. Now thats great music that still sounds this good 50 yrs ltr! Johns’ voice , playing, to me,just made ccr. I know it took them all..but.. he was and is soo talented. Still playing well into his 70s! Dam.4/08/22
I'm so glad you covered this oh, great reaction. One bit of constructive criticism and I see this happened on other channels as well, is that this song is a great song and you need to hear it at least a decent volume if not allowed to get the full effect, but this particular mix was really quiet and so if I turned it up to where you could hear it well, then your microphone audio levels were so much higher than it that it would blast my headphones like you were yelling. So I found myself turning it up when the music was playing and then racing to turn it back down when it was paused. I think when you hit a song like this, just reach over and crank the video volume up. Other than that though, I really do love your guys reactions and I'm happy to hear you do this.
I love first time reactions to this Creedence song. First time I heard it was 1969 Da Nang Vietnam with headphones. The song hit you just as hit me way back then. Thanks
Angelina Jordan also does a fantastic version of this song, I grew up listening to CCR do this and many more: I bought their vinyls and now have the CD's too.
"Walk On The Water", "Gloomy", "Ninety-Nine and a half" & "The Penthouse Pauper" - along with this one are my absolute favorites by them, and these weren't even their hits. But I love the rawness of their first and 2nd album. I grew up listening to them.
I've been watching your channel for a while. You've got me with this reaction. I can tell you get it!! I had to subscribe!! Keep up the good work. For more great CCR check out "Suzie Q" or "99 1/2".
I haven't checked you guys out for a long time. Came across this in Creedence search I did. You could NOT have picked a better CCR song to listen to! Well done. Great choice. Another must-hear by them is 'It Came Out Of The Sky' . If you'll like this Screamin' Jay Hawkins "I Put A Spell' cover, you'll like that one! You guys are cool and nice. Thanks.
I love CCR. Another great song that usually gets ignored is Keep On Chuglin'. It's a real rocker and has a lot of great guitar. John Foggerty is an outstanding guitarist. I love that you are exploring the music of the 60's and 70's. The music of my youth.❤️
You have to listen to CCR doing cover of “I Heard Through The Grapevine “. Gladys Knight did it first around 1966 then Marvin Gaye a year after. CCR does it fantastic!!
You want a Serious Vibe?....4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song. “TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version,
This is a tune made famous by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The man was from another planet. His cover of Tom Waits's "Whistling Past the Graveyard" is incredible. Another rabbit hole for you.
Thx! “Susie Q” has a haunting jam with howling ghosts! I would love to see you react to some Rascals! “People got to be free!” Or any you choose! Thx y’all!
Please listen to CCR's, Suzy Q... the full-length, long version... a bluesy, mesmerizing journey with spectacular beat and guitar solo by John Fogerty.
Im a huge CCR)John Fogerty fan since 68 with Suzie Q, the beginning of a Hall of Fame group. To me this magnificent tune, Up Around the Bend and Traveling Band are their FIRE songs 🔥🔥🔥. Tho the rest are very good!!
Fogerty used that guitar to put a spell on every listener. That guy is fantastic.
One of the most under rated guitarist of all time.
That ain't no lie, he slayed it!
It's literally impossible to go wrong with any song from these guys
Honestly, I don't know one bad song.
One of CCR's best covers. Jay Hawkins, the originator of this tune, reportedly said after hearing CCR's version that they owned it.
YES, it has over 20 million views for a reason! One of my favorite CCR songs. and it's a cover. They really made it their own. Jay Hawkins would be 🤯🎸
Love this cover, and love Screamin' Jay's version even more...
While it is amazing, I have to go with their cover of Heard It Through the Grapevine. 😊
@@Tampahop oh ya, that one too.
@@Tampahop I agree !
I love his voice, but, yes, the guitar on this is beyond words...spellbinding.
Looong version of "Heard It Through The Grapevine.", "Born On The Bayou.","Green River." Oh yes, long version of "Susie Q" too.
CCR is the best at drawing a song out and yet still leave you wanting more!
The intensity and soul in this is mind blowing. One of my all time favourite CCR tunes and one of the greatest song covers ever.
Yes!! I was so disappointed that they listened to this version.
The version in Woodstock has an awesome harmonica solo.
Sings the lead with that gravelly voice AND plays that guitar solo. Hes more than amazing. ❤❤❤❤
John Fogarty’s voice can drill a hole straight into your soul. Love love love this song! CCR is always amazing but this song is just over the top!! 🌺✌️

John Fogerty's vocal abilities were a force of nature.
CCR is one of All-Time favorite Rock Bands in the history of music!!!! And this is my favorite!!!!
One of my favorite songs ever! Thank you Asia and BJ.
CCR is one of my favorite bands. Love all their songs 🤘✌️🤗👍🏻
Hey BJ, this is one of my favorite recordings of all time. I can't remember how many times I've blasted it in my car driving by myself
Many have covered this song and CCR's version maybe still is best to date.
Love the R & B versions tho....
@@michaelasay8587 I do as well from those true artists, but its been covered by so many that don't do Screamin' Jay Hawkins original version justice.
Naw Screamin Jay Hawkins hands down but your opi
@@bbylockdemdoors9107CCR version is fire no doubt but SJH embodied the song gave it some otherworldly vibe

Perhaps the greatest American rock and roll band of all time….so many fantastic songs in such a small amount of time.
Great rendition by CCR. Love it.
This was one of the first 3 or 4 LPs that I bought back in 1970, and I didn't realize at the time that I was listening to some of greatest rock ever - other albums were by Chicago, Blind Faith, The Who.
A huge part of my teenage life from 69 through to mid 70’s.
I like these videos, we need more of this. Let's focus on what brings us all together. I think we all can relate as far as how a song like this makes you feel, regardless of where you're from or what you look like.
I must say, I really love these two righteous humans
I love the sound of the guitar at the beginning when he says I put a spell on you, deep
John Fogerty has some good solo songs, too. His cover of My Toot Toot is a fun Cajun flavored song, and Big Train From Memphis has an Elvis sound. Mr. Greed, Centerfield, Searchlight, and The Old Man Down the Road are good too.
So great that I forgot how good their instrumental playing on this was!
I heard someone say before that Fogarty is a beast , oh how true. Wow the vocals and the music is just awesome
I wanted to learn how to play guitar before I turned 60. So I bought a handmade seashell pink metal flake guitar. I made my goal and this is the song I choose, played rhythm, my nephew on drums, my cousin on bass and his son playing lead, on stage, it was a blast.
Hey, that guitar solo makes me believe every one of the things he said!!

"I Put a Spell on You" - Great song and there are some others that covered it and i like them all.
I love first time reactions to this Creedence song. First time I heard it was 1969 Da Nang Vietnam with headphones. The song hit you just as hit me way back then. Thanks
Absolutely top notch, John is a beast....wow!
Can't beat that raw blues sound.
Same here. One of my faves due to that nasty, wicked, wicked guitar solo. One of thee most underrated guitarists on earth was Mr. John Fogerty.
Angelina Jordan also does a fantastic version of this song, I grew up listening to CCR do this and many more: I bought their vinyls and now have the CD's too.
Hears It Through The Grapevine., Susie Q, can't go WRONG Y'all!

CCR rocked my world for years.
My favourite Band of the 70's

This is such a fricken classic song and so many artists have sang this song
Magical music great band❤
Love this song so much
You guys nailed it. Soooo right.
Bette Midler covered this in the film Hocus Pocus. "Bad Moon Rising" is my favorite from them; it's a perfect Halloween song.
This is true talent, no bs,
Heard it through the grapevine my favorite cover by CCR
There are about 40 CCR songs that all fans love . Some were bigger hits than others. But they are all great songs .
One of many great songs by CCR
Uuh yeahhh
Uhh babyyy
Lord have mercy!!
I love CCR. Another great song that usually gets ignored is Keep On Chuglin'. It's a real rocker and has a lot of great guitar. John Foggerty is an outstanding guitarist. I love that you are exploring the music of the 60's and 70's. The music of my youth.❤️
The 11 minute version of I Heard it through the Grapevine please...
Long as I can see the light..The night time is the right time
Asia & BJ, their "Proud Mary" and "Lodi" are next for you!!
BJ's reaction is spot on the money!
This a great cover of a Screaming Jay Hawkins song.CCR does some magic and certainty does put a spell on the listener in this unique rendering.
There's no one better than John Fogerty singing and guitar playing. ❤
Tombstone Shadow is one y’all really need to give a listen to cool song with a great raw CCR vibe
Really need to watch the John Forgerty concert. At the Royal Albert Hall in London. England! Fantastic ! 🤠🇺🇸🇬🇧👍👍👍✌️

What a singer. They never had a number 1 song. But they had more number 2 songs than anyone

Yep.....now you need to react to the extended version of CCR's "Heard It Through the Grapevine"!
Lol. About time🤘❤️thanks guys
Watch them do this live, even better. Amazing.
You've got to see him sing this
The live version from Woodstock is this, but much louder and more of the "ripping" sound for John's guitar solos
