- My 1929 Ford Model A Roadster didn’t come with a log book, so I don’t have any idea when the last time anything was done to it.
It’s time to check the oil, change the oil and the oil filter!
It’s still storming here, I don’t get to drive Roadie, so no better time than now to start doing much needed projects done in the shop!
In this video I share step by step how - to every step of the way start to finish, great tips and advice about oil used!
Hope you’re doing well!
My first Model A of my own!

Hi again. I really like the way you and your hubby explain with fine details that others would assume we would know. Good job! 🙂
I really appreciate your comment, thank you so much 💗
I enjoy watching you and Paul explaining everything about a Model A
Thank you, I appreciate you!
Hi Tina! Thanks for letting us see Roadie getting a new drink of oil! The old stuff looked like it was time for it to go. Really like where the filter is on the Model A! EASY to get to! Crawled underneath LOTS of cars trying to get to a filter! MUCH easier when it is in plain sight! It's funny when people always ask what oil you should use in a classic car, and the answer ALWAYS is. . .whatever is on sale! Have a great week Tina!
Thank you so much Jeffery! Have a great week!
"Fancy oil filter takeroffer' that phrase just made my day. Nice video Model T, great to see you.
Lol, I never know what’s going to come out of my mouth, thank you! Have a great rest of your week 💗
For those who care:
I work at an auto parts store superhub. While looking at oil filters, Motorcraft oil filters are made in a few different Asian countries. However, Wix, yellow and black oil filters are made in Gastonia, North Carolina, USA 😊
My wife told me she would rather change diapers than motor oil. Well, sounds like a deal to me ! ❤️
💗😂 as a nurse on the floor, I’ve changed a lot of diapers…I’d rather change the oil any day of the week!
I retired from automotive, but here I am, watching automotive videos.
😂💗 it’s your calling!
Thanks for making such informative videos! They're so helpful and detailed for those of us who aren't familiar with working on cars, let alone a Model A. You've taught me a lot about my own car just from your videos, I appreciate it !
Thank you so much!! 💕
Perfect start to the day, cup of coffee and a Model T video! God Bless ~ Chuck
Awe thank you Chuck ☕️🍪💕
I'm more than a little OCD. I have to use a quart measure and measure each quart before I pour it in. After I reach a safe level I start the engine and let her run 5 minutes or so. Shut it off and let stand 30 minutes or so, then check. If needed will add in 4 oz increments.
Wow, I’m not down to the science to that degree but I love your dedication 💗
Great video, you and Paul do such a good job and a real service to the Model A community. Thank you.
Thank you 💕
Roadie is ready for a day trip to the lake for a picnic with Model A Guy. Great work!!
We are going to replace the transmission soon, then I’ll drive more, but right now, it’s the huge storms that are stopping me from driving Roadie lol
A girl, in California!…changing her own car oil?!?!?!? I knew I felt the earth shake all the way out here in Ontario Canada. Can’t wait to watch the video! Show ‘em how it’s done sistah!! 😁
Omg I love your comment! 😂💗💕
Thank you. I wish my Model A was that clean underneath.
Roadie hasn’t gotten driven much yet lol Paul keeps everything so spotless!
Time for you to get to work cleaning lol
Hi Tina, thanks for the video. You always have good content. I changed oil last fall and it was so easy. We love the simplicity of the Model A.
Thank you, I agree, I love the simplicity also 💗
Gettin' down and dirty!
Somebody has to do it.
🤗
Good job Model T, I've dropped the plug in the pan more times than I like to admit! I use the same type of oil filter wrench, but there's a lot out there and some says to use the cloth type. I don't think it matters, I've used a screw driver before, makes a mess but if you don't have an oil filter wrench it will work. Anyways, I like it, good demo, thanks and I hope you have a blessed day!
Thank you very much and thanks for sharing 💕 Have a blessed week!
Nice informative video. Good tips. I didnt know zinc isnt considered necessary for Model A engines. It is recommended for other vintage, flat tappet engines. Also, you get extra points for not letting the drain plug drop into the drained oil, and avoiding oil puddles on the floor. I'm not always good about that. Thanks.
Thank you so much! The magic of editing 😂💕
Your engine bay is so clean
Not too bad, but I will be detailing it soon 💕 thanks!
You make it look so easy! Good job.
Thank you so much! 💕
Oh ----- one thing nice about these old cars ------ is the ground clearance ------ you can run right up to it like you are coming into home base in making a home run ------- and slide right under and out the other side ------- how any cars today can you do that with? ------- On the oil filter ---- when removing ---- make sure the --- OLD --- rubber gasket comes off with the filter ---- have been times when it hasn't- and some have put the new filter on with the old gasket still on the block ------ and didn't realize it ------- doesn't seal --------- And to help those in pouring liquids as with pouring oil ------ turn the spout to the -- TOP --- then pour ----- will pour smoothly and not --- BLURPING ---- out and possibly over shooting the funnel , neck , bottle or whatever you may be pouring into ---------- Thank You for the video ------ Practice sliding in and making those Home Runs ------- We can't have any ---- OUTS ----- your Team is counting on you ------- Hope You and Paul have a Good Week ----- Rodney
Thank you for sharing Rodney 💕😁
Good work Tina... Have a good day 🏁
Thank you, have a great week!
Model T great work .
Thank you 💗
I would like to make a suggestion to you and Paul about fueling and cleaning a gas tank.
Joe McKee
We made a video on that already, I’ll find the link

Outstanding!
Thanks 😍
good job Tina!
Thanks! 💗
I always had trouble with the Fram (orange) Oil Filters.
It is kind of obnoxious 😂💕
Good of you for taking this on. Great tip to put the date and mileage on filter. I do this for all my cars. One note, you don't need to leave the dipstick out for draining. Your oil fill pipe provides adequate venting through the cap. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, and thanks for the share! I tend to not take the cap off till I’m ready to fill the new oil lol, so that why I shared it that way, the cap off would help lol
@@Modeltshinn the cap is vented.
Ah, the age-old zinc debate. I always use zinc oil (Lucas classic car oil) in all my flat tappet motors (Model As, 60s muscle cars). Just because.... Ounce of prevention. Your car, your rules! Any oil is better than no oil!
Ya it’s totally up to every individual, it’s not going to hurt it to use it, just not needed…we just prefer to not spend money on something not needed, not for Model A’s anyway. Have a great week!
It's all about valve spring pressure. The A is much lower than any 1960s car and doesn't need it. They started putting it in sometime in the 40s as engine rpm increased so heavier springs were needed to keep valves from floating.
Tina a question for you. The oil fill plug, does it have a seal washer on it. Some don't, I like one just to ensure that there's no leak.
Hi! Yes, mine does have a seal washer on it 😁💕
Only a gear hear calls an oil filter 'sexy'.
Oh, the PH8A you took off is still way better than the lack of filters originally.
My oil goes klink!
I think its full of zink!
Don't pour it down the sink.
lol, car stuff has always been sexy to me and as a kid I already knew that I was made for driving 😁
Do you have a video on installing a oil filter valve plate like is on Roadie? I have a new one for my car but don't know if exhaust or intake manifolds need to be removed or not. Thanks...Jim
I’ll see if Paul has it in one of his videos. If not I’ll ask him if the manifold or anything else needs to be removed to do it 😁
Paul has this video that should help you -
ua-cam.com/video/0oCvQZWpPy4/v-deo.htmlsi=jj92UWwyF-ZLQcvU
Plus he says the instructions that come with them are actually really well written 😁💗
i have the engine pans on each side of the motor. They connect on the oil pan and frame. Every time i look at our model a it is so beautiful. Question The wind shield is only connected at the top . The wing nuts are tight but the frame moves in and out . Should it be that way or am i missing something.
Soon I’ll be making a video on fixing my wind shield, all of the rubber around it is completely dried out, hard as a rock, brittle and I have to remove it and replace it. Once I do that I’ll know the answer to your question 😁💗
Coming soon!
Thanks so much . When you make it i will watch.
Does the oil pan double as a gold pan up in those hills?
😂😂😂 good one!!
Did I see tubular shocks on Roadie. Does this not break a Paul and Bob commandment Thou shall not use modern tubular shocks 😊
Lol, your eyes did not deceive you, but that’s what came on Roadie when we brought him home…however, a wonderful friend of the channel saw that and sent me original shocks to replace them with, we’ll be making a video on it soon!! 🥳
My wife was the middle child of 2 boys.
Did her own tune-ups rotated her tires changed her own oil and fixed her own flats. Then she married me and forgot how!
Oh no! 😂 We’ll have to remind her how 💗
Once a Queen, always a Queen!🙃
@@matthewmahalic3562 awe that’s sweet 💕💗
Too bad you did not use the car lift.
Lol, our Fordor is on it lifted in the air, Roadie is under it and Gandalf the green is to the side of it and it’s storming out here so no moving A’s around…no lifting for a bit 😁
Ooo.. mixing oils.. I guess it doesn't matter?
lol, not for Model A’s anyway 😁💕
Last time I saw Paul change the oil he used the lift......... just saying.
He love’s playing with that lift 😂💕
Well right now, the Fordor is on the lift in the air, Roadie is underneath it and Gandalf the green is beside, plus it’s storming outside 😂 no way to use the lift for a while.
