We visited the Orvis headquarters in Manchester, VT this fall. In doing so, we toured the rod factory, fished a small VT stream for native trout, roamed the retail shop and interviewed the Orvis staff. We were wondering what makes Orvis tick, why they do what they do, where they get their inspiration from. Here's what we found.

LL Bean in my honest opinion makes a broken rod a heck of a lot easier. They gave me one off the shelf after I broke it in hatchback. Immediate turn around.
Orvis has that for some sections of the recon and helios. Should have the new section in 3-7 days

Learn how to apply the thred coating 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪 Orvis is known for really bad thred coating and lots of boubbles in the coating, some up to 4mm......... But greate blanks and components👌👌👌
I ordered a Helios 3f and the bubbles in the epoxy were terrible. I brought it to the Manchester VT store and couldn’t find one without epoxy issues so I returned the rod and bought a 6 wt Scott radian and couldn’t be happier. On top of it Orvis had a take or leave attitude and didn’t seem to care since it didn’t affect anything warranty related.
Mine had "made in China" stickers all over it.
You have the Clearwater though
lol.. fast as possible. I was told it would be 4 months to get my rod fixed. All summer lost fishing. Shame on Orvis after paying 1500.00 for a rod real and line.
I bought a 10’ 5wt 3f that the tip broke on the first fish. I had owned the rod for no more than 12 hours before I contacted customer service. It was really disappointing but they said they’d immediately send out a new tip section. At the time I was frustrated with the rod and asked for a refund but thinking about how well their customer service was I’m considering snagging another one.
Got mine back in less than 3 weeks
