Great Video. Generally speaking, whether your building a computer or buying a fly rod. Build it or buy it around your needs. Ask yourself what are you mostly going to be using it for. There is no one rod for all seasons. There will always be a compromise or trade off. If you still cant decide talk to your the local fishing guides.
A con you forgot (unless I missed it) is reaching the tip of the rod to fix tangles or clearing ice buildup. I'm short 5'8" so max rod size for reaching the tip without dipping the reel in the water is 8'
This is an excellent video and the entire series is extremely informative. I was watching this video when an email came with your sale of the Korker BOA River Ops boot. I’ve been looking at these for quite awhile as I have the lace up River Ops and my Guide recommended the BOA. Thanks for the great videos and keep up the great work. I’ll be ordering more of my fly fishing needs from Trident.
So i am looking to purchase the new sage r8 and i am not sure if I want the 10’ 4wt or the 10’ 5wt I mainly thrown a double nymph rig with an indicator most of the time with occasional dry flies here and ther which rod do you think would work better for what I do
If you plan on throwing stonefly nymphs and heavy split shots under a big plastic indicator, I would go with the 5wt. Plus, it's a better choice for streamers. The 4wt for smaller flies, lighter tippet, yarn indicators, and more technical fishing situations.
I only needed to watch the first minute of the video and it was clear I just need I 9 foot rod. Thank you for being to the point with that..

I made a custom 5’5” 5 wt that I used for small overgrown streams! Was perfect for getting accurate casts

Good to hear. Thanks for the support!
Good video. I guess that’s why you should try before you buy for our specific needs or style. Thanks

just ordered a six foot six inch 2w becuase of the challange
what about 7 foot rods for lake fishing?
Are 9’6” rods a good choice for wade fishing, I wade all the time never fish from a boat? Thanks for any help
Longer rods can be a great choice for wade fishing if you need to make longer casts.
Nothing shorter than 9'for any weight line!
