In this video I will show you how to install both types of lighting moducase has to offer, and show you different types of collectibles under both types of lighting.
I built my own case, converted a utility shelf into one, I have a mix of six scale hottoys and Godzilla figures. I first tried the typical led light, like your other moducases. I HATED IT, they were WAY too bright and hard to install. I sent them back and got spotlights and LOVE them!! IMO most youtubers don't give spotlights a chance. I love the flexability they give you. Being able to "aim" the light to create cool effects. IDK why people say they don't give enough light. Each level of my shelf are 4ft wide, 2ft tall, 2ft deep. With 4 spotlights I can get a good amount of light on all figures. If I wanted more I could totally get two more lights and completely fill the shelf with light. Spotlights are very underrated!!!!
Thank you. I’ve heard spot lights are recommended for statues and the strips are for 1/6th figures, but I have NEVER seen the two actually compared. Thank you so much.
Hey are these cases stackable 5 high? Also, Any experience with the accessory riser that would go on the very bottom case to lift it up off floor a bit? Thanks if you can help!
The LED light everything up. But I think the spots are more dramatic. The spots give you some shadows which look more natural and like real lighting. The LED make me feel like I’m in a dealership showroom.
Massive thank you for this video, I've got a custom moducase with spotlights on order for a single 1/3 statue coming. I was thinking I made a bad choice with spotlights until this video. So thank you so much
you're welcome, and if you ever did decide to go for strip lights, you can see its an easy switch. You can always order them later. But for statues, the spot lights do look amazing.
Thanks for this perfectly timely video for my DIY display case project. I am planning to build out massive garage shelves to simulate the moducase look, and will be displaying 1:1 scale busts and helmets, prop replicas, scaled vehicles, and sixth scale figs. I can't decide between LED strips and spotlights, warm vs cool. I have always used cool LED strip lights in my sixth scale displays and been very happy, but for the large items, I am not sure. Based on your terrific video, I am leaning towards spotlights for everything but the shelves for sixth scale. I just don't know if I should go cool (i don't like greenish blue) or warm (I don't like yellow orange either). Wish I could find true white spotlights but the only option seems to be cool or warm. Anyway, thanks for the excellent vid, it's been extremely informative for my decision making.
Thank you for sharing ! I order my moducase early in the year. Unfortunately I have to wait but well worth it. I did get the strip lights for my 1/12 collection. I can not wait to display my collection. Very excited.
Nice test: comparison between white strips and warm strips :P Seriously though thanks for doing this as you're the only one who covers Moducase. I'm very jealous of your Link On Epona. so mad at myself for not getting it back then.
To add, with the 1/6 scale figures you need to move where the light is aiming. You could add two more lights if you have two rows. Aim two at the front and two to the back. Would look soooo much better.
GREAT comparison between the two lighting options within the DF60. I'm thinking it mostly boils down to footprint of the subject, desired effect (well lit vs a dramatic effect) and position of the piece in the case. It seems that multiple "smaller" pieces like 1/6 aren't as flattering when lit with the spot lights yet the spot lights compliment the bigger single pieces MUCH more. Thanks for putting this together. no pun
I agree, if you are putting in larger items like a statue then the spotlights are a good option. For anything smaller they need the LED strip. In my case I'm putting in a statue so the spotlights look like they will work perfectly for my needs.
I like the led strips for inside details of the hulkbuster in every area of the body in DF 120 or other models . I have both spotlights and strips I use the spotlights on the spiderman display and strips on the iron man display
I've been kinda curious how this would work, and since I ordered a couple DF60s from Sideshow, they only offered the spotlights. I'm kind of impressed, and this might alter my plans as I've ordered some extra LED strips to replace the spotlights eventually. I plan on getting some statues, and this would really make them pop!
hey quick question. I own the prime 1 NieR statue. I plan to use a turntable for it inside the moducase that I'll eventually order. would spotlights pose a problem for a rotating statue with 3 characters on it?
Hey, I would check the measurements for it, but those spot lights dont really hang very low, I would be very surprised if they interfered with anything inside.
Do you know if you got a whole wall feature from moducase and if I picked spot lights instead of led strips,,,, do they give you a bigger spot light connector to connect more spots lights to avoid using more wall socket plugs on each individual moducase ? This video is very informative thanks
hey! so they do normally give you bigger power units when they know you have a lot of lights. I think I have 4 power supplies for 8 lights maybe, plug them into a big power bar and you'll be fine
@@thecollector7347 Good to know, I never bought a Moducase before. I wasn't sure about mounting the spot lights to the floor to hold the lights in place; if I can't mount them on the bottom, I might try strong tape.
@@iambobbyray it says LED controller on it. came with a remote as well. just looks like a small simple wire joiner that connects between power supply and the wire that goes into the case

The verdict is clear to me: statue or a singular item use spot light, 1/6 use strip light

I dont think anyone has compared them, Im happy I could help

well, thanks again for taking the time to do this video, bro! It really helps to decide how to light up your diff. cases. Awesome!

I like the single Lights alot better for Big Single Statues. It definitely enhances the statue better.
AGREE! bigger collectables for spot lights

I have the 165 moducase. Definitely prefer the spot lights. Much more dramatic and natural lighting.
How long is the wire length ?(wire for led stripe , from psu to out put jack) thank you and sorry about my language.
Did you use the pure white or warm white lights for this video?
Spotlights are better for larger piece statues. Makes it look more like a museum piece.
agree!!
Are your LED strips “WARM” or “WHITE” light?
Strip light illuminate better but i prefer Spot light it gives that museum vibe that i like.
agree! it does give a darker more museum feel

Would you recommend spot or led for 1-2 maybe 3 1/4 statues in a case?
statues seems to be more popular with the lighting of the spot lights! but its a personal choice really
I think I prefer the spotlights. Especially if it’s 1-3 or 4 items. If it’s like full of figures I’d say strip.
sounds like a good rule of thumb !
Great video!
Is it possible to install dimmable led strips on these moducases?
there is an attachment you can use that you can dim these ( or any lights ) with
@@thecollector7347 Thank you!
Which moducase you suggest to fit the 1/6 scale batmobile tumbler?
I would go DF120!
@@thecollector7347 Thank you
Just curious where you got the Cap Helmet from?
killer body
The strips make it look too light and shows too much of the backboard imo. The spotlights look a lot more museum like and classier.
I just received two moducases in the UK, but I can't get the spotlights to work 😞 I bought some US to UK plug adapters, but nothing..
the voltage must be off? contact Bryan at moducase, he will help you out for sure
@The Collector I bought different adapters, and they work now, but there's still a faint light coming off them even when the switch is set to off 😅
Hi, is it possible to put spotlights on the bottom as well?
you may be able to do that, but its not designed that way
Wherte did you get the LED strip? Moducase?
yes, you choose your lighting with them
Hi I was wondering if you can tell me where you purchase your spot lights and stripe led lights?
all these lights come with moducase, you just select what ones you want
Oh Kool Thank you
Just out of curiosity where do you purchase your moducase,s?

What if I wanted to install my spot lights on the bottom base board of the Moducase? Is this possible?
Im not sure to be honest, I can't see why not tho, you could still run the wires under it if you tuck them in the rails.

Where did you get captain america?
Perhaps spotlights would light things more evenly with a white backing.
its possible, I do think it depends on where the display is, if you get a lot of natural light and what not
Would be nice if they made the strips dimmable
you can get a little attachment to do that !
