I feel so privileged to have been able to see Billy play live. He was truly amazing, and of all the hundreds of bands and artists I’ve seen live, he was without a doubt the loudest. One of a kind and a true legend.
I discovered Thorpe later in life and couldnt be more grateful to have finally have stumbled onto his space opera and from there i was hooked. Ive only had the pleasure of rocking out to Billy Thorpe for 20 years and wish i had the 20 years before that to love and enjoy. Hes like the Australian Steven Tyler! A true legend who will forever be missed.
Mid 70s me and 2 school mates travelled from Bega to Cooma to see Billy Thorpe at a small theater. Before he came on there was a small projector up the back where every one watched Suzie Quatro. It was a great night, my ears were ringing for about 3 days.
as a Canadian billy Thorpe reminds me a lot of April wine , they were both super underrated bands who never really found success outside of there respected country’s
Thorpie OMG. Saw him live during his "Sunbury" incarnation (same rhythm section) in 73-75 including the Lifesaver gig when "Billy killed the fish" then, after returning from his explorations of the USA, at Tanelorn in 81, then finally in 1994 with this same line-up. His voice was still crystal clear & so powerful, and his guitar playing seemed to get better & better. Sorely missed. RIP Thorpie.
LOVE Billy Thorpe. Beautiful memories come flooding back BUT I am sitting here crying because I am so sad, depressed and missing my sister who committed suicide 7 months ago because of our abusive "mother". Miss you and love you so much big sis.
I got a few live album by Billy Thorpe, at Sunbury , i think, he says , we are gonna do a song , that will be in music stores every where next week , hope you like it ,so for the first time ever , and yup , Most people i know
I remember in the old days seeing Billy play at Crown in Melbourne. I wore ear plugs for the whole show, got home couldn't hear anything for the next 12 hours. It was that loud I reckon you could have heard the band in Lonsdale street. Some of the greatest gigs I saw, was Billy, and a another one that comes to mind was South Side Six in Moorabbin. R.I.P. Bill Thorpe
The KING of Sunbury. From the estate where I live I can look across to the site where the festival was held. The stage area is hidden in the valley but can see the slope where everyone watched from. At the end of Duncan’s Lane is a plaque commemorating him at the festival. RIP Billy.
I have orders from my older brother that when he passes, it's my job to ensure Somewhere over the rainbow by Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs is played. And it must be the one from Sunbury. Can't listen to that song. Just makes me howl.
Seen him and the band often at the Whitehorse Hotel - used to go there after working overtime on a Friday night just up the road. Dinner, a few beers and the show, geez we had it good!
great old song. LOVE THE OLD ONES. You always remeber them. A legend of Rock n Roll, thanks so much for all the great songs Billy and may you rest in peace. RIP Billy. One of the true Oz greats. Have a listen to his posthumous album 'Tangier' ...
At this stage my mate Greg Clarke was doin' his mixing... even built his pick-ups.. Notorious for being Hard to keep the foldback up to him, Billy did LOVE IT LOUD... on and off stage!!

Saw Bily many years ago at the Palace in Melbourne with Pig Morgan etc. Spiderbait were the support band and they were loud. Until Billy came on and fuck he was LOUD. My brother in law and I drove home along Punt rd without speaking a word because our ears were ringing. That didn't stop until the next morning 😀 Aaah the good old days😛
Mate sent me a email about music from the good ol days....Id given all my LPs away years ago,but then I found in a dusty cupboard...AZTECS Live !at Sunbury,...Im here on you tube coz I havnt got anything to play the damn thing on!RIP BILLY still a legend!
I say underrated in how often I get to hear of them compared to others I would rather not ever again hear, and also: that is way better than some things I choose to listen to.
His "Children Of The Sun" Concert (1979), in Dallas, Texas, U S A, sounded phenomenal, as well, in my opinion and he might have even been playing the same Guitar and/or a similar Model. Wish i had been there and here. Rest, in Peace, your Dad's Cousin.
Every karnt knows I'm not just crazy but completely off me nut lol. Brilliant live & the loudest, I haven't said anything except "what" since that night. 🤘
I'm sure Billy is using Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel Marshal amp "SET ON 11 " ! Long LIVE THE KING ! Watch BOGGO ROAD show with Billy "BLOWING" the HOUSE AWAY !!!
I feel so privileged to have been able to see Billy play live.
He was truly amazing, and of all the hundreds of bands and artists I’ve seen live, he was without a doubt the loudest. One of a kind and a true legend.
Billy was a gentleman. He once rehearsed with my brother's band at my mother's home, and was so respectful to her and my sister. RIP Billy.
I saw them at the Royal Easter show when they were just begining and fell in love with them then. Im 70 now and still a fan.

Sunbury did alright for itself. Rupertswood and the cricket bails (ashes) as well.
I have orders from my older brother that when he passes, it's my job to ensure Somewhere over the rainbow by Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs is played. And it must be the one from Sunbury. Can't listen to that song. Just makes me howl.
