There is no one quite like Billy Thorpe. He could transform a room by sheer force of personality. He was a force of nature, and a brilliant live performer.
Followed Billy since the 60's... What a great talent. Miss him very much & also I just imagine the music scene we'd have if he was still here.. he organised the Melb Blues Fest years ago with Robert Cray, John Mayall & Bob Dylan plus others. What a show... Mayall said that he'd keep playing but someone louder wanted the stage. Billy did us proud that night & every time the band played.. I was in shock for days after the news of his passing. RIP Billy Thorpe
Billy was simply "testosterone man" - Ist saw the Aztecs age 15 while still at school in 1969 & was a disciple forever after ! He had guts, balls, long hair & talent, with a stage presence that was commanding & 2nd to none. Legend.
I saw Billy Thorpe and Aztec I reacon in 1969 at the Salisbury youth centre, first great real band i ever saw at age age 15. Wish i could remember more, but of course started me on guitar and garage band. Great rocker great music. Rip ❤
I play this once a week to a) enjoy and b) remind me how blessed we all were to grow up listening to the best rockers on the planet in Oz - late 60s, 70s and early 80s - outstanding and Thorpie could still out play, out rock and out perform any act 20-30 years his junior to the end. Great band of musos to - thanks to one and all from that era - re-living a lot of those times via youtube is one of life's simple pleasures 7 I feel blessed - cheers!
I’m 66 and also grew up listening to and going to all these rockers Thorpys music was so loud had your ears ringing for days Lobby Lloyd , oh my good they were over the moon .. 100% world class ..we had the best music no shit about it ..
no one could ever replace this giant of aus music.he still makes we feel the way i did when i was just a boy.pumped.what a loss.a giant of oz music.miss you bill.
I am in my late 30's and i just wanna say, i was not born when these legends were tearing it up...... But my choice in guitars, the way i play now reflects the fact that a steady diet of Billy Thorpe and Lobby loydd when i was a kid has made me who i am today. Australian musicians Now and back then have a lot to offer and often don't get the recognition they so very often deserve. Thanks Billy.... I'm still listing and learning....
Not wrong man!!!! There are soooo many bands in Australia that are just as/if not better then the over seas acts BUT kids wont go to local gigs BUT are happy to spend all their saved up money on a ticket to sound wave to support overseas acts! lol really drives me nuts !
Billy THorpe was THE most under-rated/under appreciated rock musician of his era. A monstrous talent. I did a support for him one time. Best drinks rider I have ever seen :-) )
mighty band only bout hundred of us at miami gr8 hall g/coast they still pumped out a mighty performance a CONSUMATE PERFORMER!!! Still get tears o respect!
At the end of the clip, John Blackman ( background voice-over) said that "they don't make it like that anymore". Sadly, he was right. Classic singer and performer greatly missed, but I am grateful to have been alive, although rather fuzzy, in those days, esp.in Southern Vic.
Sorry,my last comment got cut short/ just wanted to say so sad Billy has gone to the great concert upstairs. Never have seen a guy that could rock like this!
BILLY THORPE HAS BEEN OUR BEST MUSICAL TALENT EVER MAN HOW F..... GOOD WAS HE, KIDS THIS IS HOW MUSIC IS PLAY IS PLAYED NOT THE F..... SHIT THEY PLAY THESE DAYS
still cant get over the power of this man..... scintillating! what I'd love to know is, does the rest of the footage with the "Before you "cuse me" in full? even in the 20 odd bars we hear, he lifts the roof off the richmond studio!!
Could you imagine if this band was given the chance to play at the monster football stadiums that the bands like AC/DC and others play at? They would have killed.
This is Billy Thorpe and the SUNBURY Aztecs, as they played at Sunbury! This is not the Sunburys as they play different style, more like Petty, Dylan, Kelly, etc. Billy was the best!
debrashaw100 Well I'm 55 and we always rock out to this stuff at parties or wherever , and let me tell ya, the youngens just stare in disbelief ! Ha ha
