what makes you both so inspiring is that as you didn't get outstanding GCSE's it's not like you were born with an incredible academic capability but that you worked so hard for it. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 motivational as ever
No way. YOU are an amazing person and many people would love to have your opportunities. I'm 40 yrs old and doing my A level English. Watch youtube motivation videos and be the best that YOU can be. Believe in yourself and make it happen. High 5 and blessings your way.
Matthias Hepworth I think this is the best comment I've ever received, thank you so much!! It's great to hear you're doing A-levels at 40, I applaud you!! I used to be a med student, and this year I dropped out to pursue my passion. At 23, I am now studying for my degree in English :)
Thanks Izzy. I worked in healthcare for 16 years, 12 as a registered nurse. I'm now transitioning to teaching (English). It turns out that if I have the qualification above the level that I am teaching then I can teach it, hence A level English. I'm then doing my Education and Training Level 5, and with these I can teach English in colleges. All the best on your journey. I found Jesus, and despite significant setbacks, smile and live with joy. Blessings sent to you, and keep smiling.
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE BEAUTIFUL SIAN!!!! MY FIRST FRIEND AT CAMBRIDGE! FOR HELPING WITH THIS VIDEO! If you found this useful, PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT & SHARE WITH YOUR PEERS, SCHOOLS & TEACHERS! Have FUN studying! #BadBitchSquad
Ibz Mo I've shared your videos since I first found you when you had about 300 subscribers. I just love your passion for studying! (I've commented quite a few times as you've seen haha but you're probably the most enthusiastic I've seen, honestly!) lots of love 😊
Ibz Mo I know you only did AS Media Studies so will you be doing an advice video for Media Studies? I would find it super helpful as I want to do it for AS
Just thought I'd come back to this and thank you so much Ibz for being so generous in sharing your advice. I watched this during revising for my A2's this year and it spurred me on in English Lit after getting a D in AS. Got my results last week and got an A* :-) A*A*B after getting BBCD last year. Off to Exeter Uni (don't hate me). Thank you
There’s actually been a recent question on othello that was ‘Iago’s villainy is fiendish and inexplicably’ and in the markscheme it says you could’ve written about his ‘repressed homosexuality’!
First off, her hair is just goals. damn. Secondly, I just want to thank you for making all these videos because not only are they insightful, you just naturally covey yourself as a genuine, funny person. It is absolutely miraculous! I so many of your videos one-after-the-other. Great content :)
I'm not even at Alevel still at Gcse but I can predict that this video is gonna save my life! I'm definately doing it at Alevel! Also, my teacher said that because of the new GCSE course the jump from GCSE to alevel is non existence, because everything at GCSE is closed book/we have to analyse context.
You're teacher is wrong i think... Honestly remembering the quotes is easy, it's the difference in the language, texts, way its marked etc that's the hard thing. A level is so much more difficult but the new GCSEs would make the jump less dramatic :)
Don't know what they are talking about in terms of "jump" tbh. I only got an A at GCSE and my AS year has been a breeze. It's barely a jump at all, especially compared to subjects like Maths (that is a giant leap).
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. Although my cohort didn't have closed book GCSE exams, I think it depends on the examination board (for example, there would be more cohesion with mark schemes/assessment objectives if you've done an AQA GCSE, then stuck with AQA for A Level too) and the kind of grounding you'd received at GCSE. I was just taught the basics at GCSE, whereas at A Level, much more is expected in terms of technical vocabulary, quality of writing and even of your knowledge of the texts.
And then there is Sian with 4 A*S! HAHAH Being a bad bitch isn't about grades. It's about doing what you love and killing it to help inspire the world ❤️
This has been so helpful! Thank you so much! Also your energy is amazing, you really hype each other up about how well you did and that’s some good energy
Thanks so much for the advice. We do paper 3&4 so no open text even at AS 😭😭and no coursework xxx I'm a new subscriber and love your channel. This has inspired me to work work work
watching this literally the night before my final a level exam having never read the texts, relying on sparknotes and only started revising yesterday. terrified is an understatement
I'm going to have to watch this all over again to get it all inside my stupid head. Thank you so much Sian and Ibz! This will really help ♡ #Badbitchsquad
this is going to help so much, I have my French baccalaureate with an A level English literature option next year and listeeeen I need that A* thank you so MUCH !!
YOU'RE POINT ABOUT IAGO FANCYING OTHELLO IS WHAT MY ENGLISH CLASS HAVE BEEN SAYING SINCE WE STARTED STUDYING TO TEXT! (Sorry, I'm too excited by that!)
Thank you for this video. It was definitely helpful and it gives me hope. I got a c for my As although I got an A for igcse. My As mark was a total disappointment , therefore I'm re taking the exam again. IM SCARED but I am aiming for an A. Thank you for this video IT HELPS ALOTTTT for someone who wants to study literature Aswell HOPEFULLY
LISTEN HOW YALL GOT A's AND GOT INTO CAMBRIDGE IS BEYOND ME IM SO FREEKEN JEALOUS, but this was useful and I'm so grateful, now let's pray I secure this A because damn.
IBZ YOU ARE A LEGEND! I have my English Lit+ Language admission test at Bluecoat academy tomorrow. I had two weeks to teach myself the GCSE pattern which is entirely different from English Language at O-Level in Pakistan because it requires no thinking etc. I was so tensed and worried but you are an immense help! Love you :)
LET ME TELL YALL. I watched this video 2 weeks before my AS level literature exam and did as much as I could from this video and I was the only one in my class to get an A. IM SO GRATEFUL
When answering the question in terms of not saying it means. U should say what you are interpreting or what it’s supposed to be intended to mean. So using word like suggests this , implies, indicates , relates, referred etc. it’s much more better to say words like that, because the examiner is know you are analyzing the quote. Include language :words, what it-means symbolizes how does it link to that. Include what kind of language feature it is . Verbs , adjectives ,pronoun etc
hi ibz! I know that you're probably not planning to do a q&a any time soon or anything but I'd really appreciate it if at some point in a video you could discuss ethnic diversity within Cambridge in greater detail, and maybe tell us which college is the most diverse? it's not really something I've been able to find on the internet, and I figured especially because you're the representative for equity (is that right?) anyway, I would be really greatful because in the (unlikely) scenario I got into Cambridge, I would really like to be part of a college where I feel like I fit in. Thank you 💖💖💖 (sorry this ended up being really long)
Omg Ibz I'm doing Love through the ages too! I love English lit so much but am finding essay style difficult. But as u say, we gotta work for those grades! I'm in year 12 - wish me luck! Xx
Thank you for posting this video! English is also my 'struggle' subject and this has helped me so much 😩 And if it not too much to ask, would the two of you mind sending me/posting some of your old essays (assuming you still have they them) online to give me a clearer idea of how I need to structure my essays? and congrats on the 4A*'s, Sian! That's incredible omg!
Can I get an A with bad coursework if I focus on the exam? I've just always got bad grades at coursework so I don't know how well I'm going to, it's 20% of my overall grade
If your hopes are low and time is short, instead of reading the entire book just go to sparkle notes or some website for notes and copy notes on Author style ect, plot summary, character analysis and write and memorize on own words (imp) and few quotes.
omg, can both of you please post a sample of any of your essays that you did really well in, like, one under poetry, prose and then drama on any text(s)?
Lol not true I didn't read the books and got an A overall in English and A* in my prose paper 💀 u don't even need to know the plot u just need to be able to make points so maybe key scenes

Also, my teacher said that because of the new GCSE course the jump from GCSE to alevel is non existence, because everything at GCSE is closed book/we have to analyse context.
yh thats bscly what we r doing in a level now its all about context and the writers message

If your hopes are low and time is short, instead of reading the entire book just go to sparkle notes or some website for notes and copy notes on Author style ect, plot summary, character analysis and write and memorize on own words (imp) and few quotes.
This video was so helpful WOW thank you and you're both peng
