This couldn’t come at a better time!! I’m doing English lit next year and I got a list of books that I’m likely to be studying which I’m gonna read over Summer - also it feel SOOO refreshing to hear someone saying they like to read because so many people around me can’t stand it!!
bel Rose What year are you in?? I guess you could always have a little look at a couple of them just for enjoyment purposes anyway and if it turns out you’re not studying one that you read? Ah well, I’d say the more you read the better anyway!☺️
You're actually incredible and such an inspiration! Managing a levels, a youtube channel with (nearly!!!) 200k subscribers, being head girl and so much more! And you are always so positive and happy! Thank you so much for doing what you do
This made me smile SO much! Bless you! 🙈 It has honestly been this crazy lil journey that I'm so grateful for, and people like you are the reason I've loved it so much! Lots of love x
I agree with all your tips, especially the Context tip! Researching about the author, the book and the era it was written in is SO SO helpful for studying a book!
Wow it's so cooled that this is sponsored by penguin! I love reading, especially Classics, but I'm pretty bad when it comes to reading them for school I live in America so I don't take the same type of tests you do, but this was still really helpful for my own english classes. Thanks for this video
YESSS! I need to reteach myself how to annotate books... preferably before I sit the ELAT! 😅 Thank you Jade! Also - YES PENGUIN! I'm studying Great Gatsby, Remains of the Day, and Things Fall Apart for IB English Lang and Lit. I love Things Fall Apart; I haven't started Remains of the Day yet; and I love the language of Gatsby, but I find it a lot to take on at the moment.
Hey Jade! It's a shame that I'd already taken my English exam a day BEFORE you uploaded this, it is so useful ( like all of your other vids)!!! Had my last exam today so yayyyyy! BTW, I loved to see your exam journey and how you persevered till the end. You're one of my biggest inspirations ever. There's so much more to say but I can't find the words to thank you enough for your awesome content. LOVE YOU SO MUCH ❤!
All fabulous advice! British 19th Century lit was my major and specialty in college and as a professor. If you have not seen it yet, watch the new movie Mary Shelley. Such an interesting peek into her life that makes you crave for more! And reread those classics too. Your personal approach and experience differs as you age and experience things!
Thank you so much for this Jade! I am starting my O levels (which is basically GCSE) and was so stressed because I had taken English Literature as my subject and had no idea how I would get through it. Thanks again😘
please please please do a video on how to start year 10 motivated and with the right mindset and all the little tips you wish you learnt earlier bc i know alot will benefit from this video idea and it just helps start off the year right xx ilysm
Unknown if you have any friends in year 11 speak to them. I definitely think hearing from someone who goes to your school and experienced what you’re about to is the best way to realise how it’s going to be. I honestly think as long as you want to learn about the subjects you study you will be fine :)
Unscrewed _ Up i chose history, dance, buisness, and french but i don’t rly need help bc i’m fluent in it( and obvs the core subjects) my instagram is erm.lily and tysm for offering to help i really appreciate it❤️
Yessss you NEED to read it! I've read it more times than I count, and every time I do, I still find new things! I wish I'd had this edition in the past though haha x
I am not going to be studying English literature anymore but it was so helpful as I also love reading! My reading resolution for 2018 was to read more classics and your tips will certainly help me enjoy and learn more!! Thanks and congrats for being sponsored by penguin!!!
Hey jade! Could you please do a video about uni choices and how to choose a uni? I’m going next year and I’m stressed out at the moment because I have no idea what to do in life therefore I have no idea what course to pick! Please help
This came at a great time! I'll be self studying English Literature A-Level next year (due to illness) and any and all tips are much appreciated! Thank you, Jade. :)
I did English Combined (Lang & Lit) for A level, I’ve just finished it! I studied The Great Gatsby which I absolutely loved, although the exam paper wasn’t so great (tricky/narrow questions). This video was really comprehensive and yes girl get that coinnn! Everyone loves Penguin. I also did Othello but I absolutely hated it unfortunately!
I decided for myself to read a classic every other book that I read to improve my knowledge and to seem smarter and accomplished in conversations😁 it always takes me way longer to get through them but I think it is really good for me to go through with it. The only book I struggled with so far was Emma because it repeats itself so often. At the moment I am reading pride and prejudice for the second time, but this time in English and not in German to furthermore improve my language
Classic novels? I love classic novels ❤❤❤ "Pride and Prejudice"of Jane Austen and "Wuthering Heights" of Emily Brontë are my favourite but I like alot of Shakespeare and Arthur Conan Doyle too📓📓 About Wuthering Heights, I got really confused because of Catherine and Cathy and a little confused about Harrison 😳it's a complicate book just because of the characters. Love u alot Jade 💕
I’ve always loved English Lit and am doing next year for A level. However I was intimidated by the jump in classic analysis so thank you for this video. 💚
Hi Jade! I did my GCSEs not long ago and I wanted you to know the results were unexpected! I’ve been watching your videos for over a year now and I wasn’t confident with myself when I did the exams. I watch your videos because you motivate me so much and i got A’s for my English language and English Literature! I just want to say thank you so much and I know they aren’t A* but I did the best. Thank you so so much. Keep doing what you do. I actually expected a C for my eng lit 😭😭😭 aaaAAA❤️
My favourite classics - Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Rebecca (if you class that as a classic), Great Expectations, Northanger Abbey, Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice. I probably have more but those are the ones hat immediately come to mind
I LOVE Rebecca and Great Expectations! I wish I had physical copies of them haha! I haven't read Northanger Abbey but if it's worth reading, I'll add it to my list ;) x
UnJaded Jade I think it’s worth reading if you like the Gothic - it parodies he typical gothic, kinda taking the mick out of it but it’s still very Gothic so if you’re into the genre you’d enjoy it
Please upload videos about your a level experiences biology - chemistry and maths. Great video as always x. Also congrats for nearly reaching 200K subscribers.
Yessss, Jadeeeee! You´re back and better than ever! And you are so close to 200k! I can´t believe you´ve grown so fast... you deserve it so much, though. Congrats!
Frankenstein was one of my favorites in my AP English Lit class back in high school! It really was an easy going book & the drama was juicy if we consider Shelley was from an era way back when lol she was definitely a writer ahead of her time!! 🤩
PRAISE ALL STUDYING DEITIES!!! I start reading Pride and Predjudice this summer and I’ve tried to read it before and I’ve struggled, so I’m looking forward to trying these tips out, Jade ❤️❤️ I should probably say that I love reading but have never got into the style of pride and prejudice, even though I enjoyed Jane Eyre (not as much as my other reads, but still)
back here to say that i've had a rocky time with Pride and Prej, it's definitely NOT my favourite text, but in the last month ive started to actually like it, now i can see it as an interpretation of regency society. actually planning to do Eng Lit at ALevel now, and i never thought I'd say that
I’m just recently getting into classics and the first book that I chose is Pride and Prejudice! I want to study into literature for fun but I don’t have classes for it, sadly. But I’ll try my best to do it on my own. So thank you so much for this, Jade!❤️
I have been reading it too and found it so helpful to look up chapter summaries on spark notes so I understand what is going on in terms of plot so I hope this is useful too
I have been trying to make my book review videos more interesting and nuanced since i am graduating in the field of microbiology so this video really helps. Thank you for that.
It’s weird because a couple of weeks ago I had my year 10 mocks and in most of them I’ve done pretty crap in. However for English, we only had a literature exam and I did really well, I got an 8 which is mind blowing because I only looked at quotes the night before and felt that for both the questions (for my class, we did Jekyll and Hyde and Julius Caesar) I had no idea and made it all up 😂 only lost 11 marks overall so pretty happy with that! Doubt my actual GCSEs will go that well lol. Thanks for the helpful video! I’m sure it will come of use to me in the future :)
Today I was actually given some modern classics to read and study over the summer to prepare for year 12, you literally uploaded this at the perfect time!
Hi Jade I've got to do my English lit coursework over the summer holidays how did you choose your novels how did you compare them and how did you pick a question? All love ❤
Hiya gal, this is gonna be so helpful as I've just finished English Literature at gcse and want to take A Level. Tysm gal, you're the best! Hope you're doing amazing and life is good 💓 all love from northern irish one ❤❤
Thank you Jade for this video ! As a french student, it really helped me to study my books for uni next year. You speak very well, I can really understand you ! xx
Honestly this was so helpful, you are such a blessing and I must say your classmates are the luckiest to have someone so caring and mindful of others. MUCH LOVE JADE ALL THE WAY FROM AFRICA
i love frankenstein so much and this is so helpful some teachers have given similar tips! starting A Level next year and we're studying The Great Gatsby and Othello. i think reading Othello will be super hard to read 'for fun' but the school are offering a discounted trip to see it on stage!! i'm really excited to get stuck in

Don’t even study this but you always do a good job of making a good video! Studying my AAT at the moment and these videos help no matter what subject they are!
I just finished my first year at university and i'm spending most of my time reading this summer, could you do a video maybe talking about some of your favorite books? Love your videos!x
This was so useful, thank you ! What you said about watching the movie etc. is so true, one of my teachers actually had us watch the movie of a Shakespeare play first in order to see the text in the form of how it would have been for those in the time period before we went on to study it. XX
Great tips looking forward to u reaching 200k subscribers u truly deserve it and much more thank u for all the support u shown us in everyone of your videos u truly are an inspiration ❤💙💚💛🧡💜🖤
i just finished AQA english lit at level and i’ve been getting consistent A*s, the best thing i ever did to do well in english is to joke about the books. in my class, we spent so much time making jokes about the characters (especially in harder texts like Othello and Frankenstein, and for me i chose to do Lolita in my coursework) so it’s definitely helpful if you can joke around with the characters and themes- it’s funny and it really helps you to get a grip of the texts :)
i'm doing english lit next year in ib with all the british and american kids at my school and im really stressed because im probably the only non-native speaker in the class (my native language is polish) so thank you for this! im really nervous for the class so this couldnt come at a better time :)
I saw your video 1 month ago and now my study table looks like some detective or author with so much papers and papers on wall😂. Thank you for your tips and now I started enjoying literature more.
This is such a useful video! I absolutely love to read, but when it comes to actually having to study it very well, I still haven't quite found the right way yet. So thank you so much for these tips. :)
Thanks jade! I’m doing English literature in AS next year. This was so helpful! Love you. Wonder what the future will be for your ever-amazing channel (and academic life) Also, I wonder if you will have any collabs soon?! 😉❤️🏝💗💖
I did English lit for A level and just finished exams. I personally found Frankenstein as quite a hard read although the vocabulary is really enriched... for a first read it may not be as great for some... but otherwise there’s a lot that could be inferred from this book. It was a good novel overall like the plot but I didn’t really read it and I had an A level on it 😂😂😂 so yeah it’s quite a hard read in my opinion but very doable 😊
Hi Jade! I’ve just finished year 12 and studied Dracula, the Picture of Dorian Gray, a Streetcar Named Desire and contemporary poetry :) (next year I’m doing Keats and measure for measure)
I'm actually majoring in english literature, and I'm loving itt! Check out the classics "Great expectations" by Charles Dickens and "Tess of the D'urbervilles" by Samuel Beckett. They are amazing!
1) Read the book for fun first
2) Context is important and useful for understanding the book
3) chapter summaries. Also note important quotes and stuff in em
4) character summaries
5) mindmaps
6) alternative interpretations
7) perspective and narration.
8) how to remember quotes @ 11:03
Spoiler Alert!!!
thank you
This couldn’t come at a better time!! I’m doing English lit next year and I got a list of books that I’m likely to be studying which I’m gonna read over Summer - also it feel SOOO refreshing to hear someone saying they like to read because so many people around me can’t stand it!!

I'm doing frankenstein for my English coursework and I'm loving it !! I love how it has scientific and philosophical concepts merged together!💛💜

I’ve just had my English Lit mock on Frankenstein today but at least I can put these tips to use next year! And we’re doing Gatsby for our coursework!
Ooooh I hope it went okay! 💛 Good luck for next year xxx
i just started reading the great gatsby for summer work and was struggling and saw that this video was uploaded
vickturfuentees it is really good book
I have been reading it too and found it so helpful to look up chapter summaries on spark notes so I understand what is going on in terms of plot so I hope this is useful too
I love that book!!!!
Keep your passion.& positivity.,, I like Milton and The Romantic authors 19th C. myself, Shakespeare, Marlowe...must not forget them . peace
Love this video! I definitely agree that reading for fun first helps to clarify the plot and relationships between characters in a novel.
I have been trying to make my book review videos more interesting and nuanced since i am graduating in the field of microbiology so this video really helps. Thank you for that.
It’s weird because a couple of weeks ago I had my year 10 mocks and in most of them I’ve done pretty crap in. Yay .a new video xx I love you Jade xx thank you for the motivation and tips x 💟
When you don't even do English, but u still watch coz it's JADE!!!
Needed this so much because I’m rubbish at English and was watching your English essay which was sooo helpful
Thank you
Today I was actually given some modern classics to read and study over the summer to prepare for year 12, you literally uploaded this at the perfect time!
Hi Jade I've got to do my English lit coursework over the summer holidays how did you choose your novels how did you compare them and how did you pick a question? All love ❤

that little insight on the great gatsby (iS hE sO gReAt) was actually so interesting
I just started year 7 this year and we’re finally reading some classics! So thanks so much for this!! ❤️❤️
JADE! I am taking English at college and I really needed this. Lol this is why you are my favourite UA-camr. Thank you for this, it is very helpful.
When writing papers for an English literature, do you have any tips concerning how to come up with a good thesis statement? Do you think of which interpretation is best? Do you think of the moral lesson that the author is trying to teach?

I did English lit for A level and just finished exams. I personally found Frankenstein as quite a hard read although the vocabulary is really enriched... for a first read it may not be as great for some... but otherwise there’s a lot that could be inferred from this book. It was a good novel overall like the plot but I didn’t really read it and I had an A level on it 😂😂😂 so yeah it’s quite a hard read in my opinion but very doable 😊
Can we say that jade always slays and saves people in universities huh 😊😊✌🌟
Please could you do a video on how to do a comparative paragraph. Your videos really help.
