I lost almost 20 pounds the first month of my weight loss journey, now the scale is staying in the same place but I’ve lost inches and feel great. Husband says I look pre-baby weight but I’m still like 20 pounds heavier than pre-baby weight. I’ve been working out about 40 mins a day, cardio, core and arms, also eating right portions and healthier. The scale is discouraging for sure. Thanks for the video.
You are very welcome! Yes the scale can be very discouraging and it's only just a number! Just focus more on how you feel, how strong you feel, and remember the things you are doing are to live a stronger healthier life than just achieve a number on the scale :) Thanks for watching!
Phew! What a timely video. Not me jumping on the scale this morning and registering a 2 pound weight increase 🥴Had to dig deep and remind myself that my waist is getting smaller and my measurements in general as well. So this video has just validated me. All the strength training i've been doing must mean i'm gaining lean muscle and i'll take that any day!💪
LOL!! Love it!!! So glad this was helpful - trust me I made this video because you are not the only one who does this lol! Waist going down, feeling better, getting stronger = WINNING! Throw the scale out the window :) lol
This is exactly what is happening to me! I've been on a fat loss journey for almost 5 weeks now and my start weight was 117. A week in and I gained three pounds. My weight has been 121-123 for the last three weeks. BUT! I just found out that a pair of shorts I bought a while back actually fit me now, because they were too tight before! Body recomposition is incredible!
Awesome Phoenix!!! Yes this is why we don't use the scale as our only measure of progress!! Sounds like you are on the right track and doing a great job!! Keep going!!
I have not seen any changes on the scale but my pants fit with room and easier to pull up. People are asking me if I loosing weight. But my tummy won't go down. 😢
So true! I started kickboxing 3 months ago and lost a total of 15lbs but it took a while for the scale to budge. I changed my diet and everything and was becoming discouraged but the pics I took showed a more accurate story…I always had a number gold in my head but now it’s I’m just working to be healthy and continue gaining strength. Great video!
LOVE THIS!!! Yes sometimes it's hard to get over the scale and not let it bother you if it's not moving, but in the end what you are doing is the BEST method! Aim for health and strength and enjoy the journey! How you feel and how your clothes feel are much more important than what the scale tells you! Thanks for sharing and watching!
THANK YOU!!! This was a perfect time for me to watch this. I started watching you about three weeks ago and taking in what you've said on my new body journey. Eating right, going to the gym 5 days and feeling great and the scale hasn't moved that much BUT my clothes are a little less "painted on." I now have a new outlook about the scale. YOU'RE THE BEST!!!
Yes slow and steady wins always! Consistency and patience - trust the process and once you reach your goal it will be completely maintainable! Thanks for watching and glad the video was helpful!
I think it’s just so hard to completely be dismissive about the scale because we are always getting directed to it ( doc appointment, procedures etc) I know the number on the scale doesn’t matter but my brain still makes me sad about it 😅
Thank you for these reminders. I am 1 month in and I can see fat loss from strength training, cardio, and eating better. Scale hasn't changed. Sometimes I just need to hear an expert explain it.
I mean... I feel like yeah it matters when you're 280 and doing all the things to drop the weight the right way. Being 280 isn't good for the body. Getting to a healthy weight is better, we know this. So that's why we want to drop the weight.
Real talk your clothes are your best tools to check your progress regarding fat loss size S t shirts fit me nice now they lil bit loose on me whoop whoop,my trousers i had to do another whole to my belt as my waist gone down i ditched the scale forever
I love this!!!! Yes!! Clothes are the best way to track progress (and how you feel in your own skin!). So glad to hear another one ditched the scale! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos weekly :)
OMG so grateful for this video! Today is my 37th bday and I woke up happy got on the scale and gain some weight and was so sad about it. I didnt understand why I gain when I am exercising each day, losing inches and clothes feel so much looser!! But now I understand. I think we should ALL THROW AWAY OUR SCALES! I will continue to take my vitamins, and exercise and eat healthy and enjoy food (at the same time). I have gotten many compliments on my loss, to the point people say its weight loss. Im like oh no its inches thats gone the weight goes up and down as you stated above. Im feeling much better now. My butt is looking back how it was in my 20s and muscle is coming in and inches, I am loving the loss of inches results. Thanks again! Oh yes I have been taking pics and have looked back a couple of months ago from my miscarriage in July 2023 and lost so so much inches!
I’m 5” 6’, started at 153, went down to 148 going Boot Camp and diet. I have been stuck there for ages. I was pretty frustrated because Boot Camp is not for the weak so I was busting my butt off. One day I realized my clothes were pretty much falling off of my body, even my undies! (I know, TMI). So I though “what in the world?” Went shopping for smaller sizes and sure enough, went from Large to Medium and from size 10 to 8. Came home and put my scale on a shelf. I also took pictures to follow progres and yeah! Changes big time
I LOVE THIS!! Thank you for sharing as I’m sure other women will benefit from reading this! This is why pics and measurements are so important - great job!!
This video really help me... o my, many times i give up because i was so confused with the scale weight not moving but my clothes started fitting better, i became frustrated and felt down about myself.. so thanks for making this video, made me feel so much better now
Thank you so much, i have lost in total more than 11 centimeters, but i have lost only 4 kilos in two months, and i felt it wasn't enough, but my clothes feels bigger and wider.
I started at 159 in july, worked on diet and 3 days a week 45-minute weightlifting sessions and got all the way to 142 but now I'm back at 148 and have still lost inches and look leaner. Really not letting the numbers discourage my visible progress
Thank you so much for this reassurance. I’ve been training hard for the past 6 weeks (& unfortunately didn’t take measurements until half way through)… BUT…. I’m so glad I did. Because although I’ve not lost weight, I’ve lost an inch of my bust, an inch off my waist, 2 inches off my hips & gained an inch on my legs & arms (which are chicken sticks)…. This is just in 3 weeks! I’m so happy even though the scale hasn’t moved
Thank you, I been on a big weight loss journey and hit a a place where the scale isn’t moving but my clothes have been fitting better and better, I’ll try not to focus on the scale so much and more on the other factors at play! Given me some hope that I can get to where I am headed
Hey! So happy to see this! I’ve been losing inches and not dropping in weight. So I was getting frustrated 😅 This video really helps understand my body better! Thank you ❤️
Awesome I’m so glad this was helpful! I know you aren’t the only one who feel this way with the scale not moving. Just keep putting in the work and it will pay off for sure! Thanks for watching!
Girl your 148 looks like a size zero! Absolute Bombshell body!!! This video is so encouraging. I'm at a 1530 calorie deficit. I workout High intense cardio 5 to 6 days a week with a minimum of 750 to 1300 calories a day. I don't have a specific diet. I just got a kidney transplant so I have to eat all nutrients and not cut any food for the blood work I do every week that my transplant teams looks at to see if I'm recovering properly plus I have to weigh myself everyday and report it to them as well. I've lost 10lbs but now its month 4 and my scale is still at 10lbs. Its starting to get irritated that I'm not pass 10 pounds on the scale after 4 months but I do look slimmer and my clothes have went down a size. I don't have blood pressure or diabetes, they don't know why my kidneys failed, but I do have water weight gain when my cycle comes. Two days ago I burned off everything I ate that day, then weighed myself next morning and STILL kept it at 10lbs! I TRY and rest 2 days out the week but there is always a fear I will gain weight if I rest. Thank you for the encouragement.
Thanks girl! Sorry to hear about your kidney transplant, but glad to hear you are recovering well. If your clothes have gone down a size something is working so keep going. Right now it's more important to make sure you are fuelling your body with protein and good food.
This video enlightened me. I'm 32y M. I was 106kg 3 months ago and a few days ago when I weighed myself I was 105kg! 1 kg in 3 months after doing all strength training! I have noticed that my body is shrinking but the kilos are still the same.
Thank you so much for this, I have been dieting and lifting weights for 6 weeks already and I am a little dissapointed because I only lost 2 kilos and this explains everything, guess I need to keep going, thanks
So glad I came across this video!👏🏾 I'm in a program that encourages daily weighing but I pushed back on my coach and told her how that's not emotionally healthy for me so we agreed on weekly weigh-in's. However, even with having a positive mindset, I got discouraged yesterday when I "only" lost .5 lb from last week. On the flip side, tshirts and blouses that I couldn't get past my boobs 2 months ago are now loose ALL OVER! So I'm going to take the scale for what it is and stick to my calorie deficit and consistent movement because everything else says it's working!👍🏾
I love this! Good for you for recognizing that it is not healthy for your to get on the scale everyday (I love this!). Exactly right, the scale is only 1 metric of measuring progress and if you are seeing changes in your clothes or measurements THIS IS A WIN and shows you that you are making progress. Just stick to it and be patient - it will work! Let's go girl!!
Thanks for this video, another great piece. This month (June 2024)I started to walk every day to get at least the 10k steps in and I do get more than that now, walking to work and home and also on my lunchtime, started calorie deficit , using MyFitnessPal to track everything, my weight at start was 87.7 kg and it’s now 84kg but that 84 has not budged in last 5 days, but I had been exercising at home some more also, included some more resistance training plus all the brisk walking, I walk 7 days a week, but my clothes fit much better and belt went tighter by one hole so I am getting progress from all what I do. My plan is to start weight training after our family holidays. This video just confirmed all my thoughts about my weight on the scale 😊
I woke up and weigh (frustrating) as I have been doing 48hr fast weekly for two weeks and change to keto (strict and clean) for three weeks now. I do a rigorous strength training two hours in a week with my coach. I only lost to 2.5 kg. My visceral fat changed from 9 to 7 and fat % from 44 to 37 (I have an Omron Karada). I am still sad with the numbers as it is instill in my head that the overall weight should go down! Thank you for putting my mind at ease:)
It sounds like you are crushing it! You lost 7% body fat - this is amazing progress and not easy to do!! Glad this video might have helped you celebrate all the wins!!
@@MichelleRoots Is it? I have no clue what those numbers are tbh. I will need to research a bit more. As you said, most people rely on scale. Thank you:)
So happy to find this video, I’ve been making gradual changes for about 5 months started going hard this month. I had lost about 10lbs the end of last year but yesterday I got on the scale and nothing changed at first I didn’t care but I thought about all I have been doing and got a little discouraged. I will say my clothes slide on easier, my mind is clearer, I’ve cut out 75% of sugar and don’t crave it, I have more energy. So it’s working I just want to see that scale go down so bad 😩. I know I need more sleep as well.
Hi!! I"m so glad this video was helpful! Yes by the sounds of it what you are doing is working AMAZING! The scale will move eventually you just have to be patient. Focus on the wins of all the things you mentioned above as these are way more important than a number on the scale! You are rocking it girl just keep going and make sure you take progress pics along the way so you are able to visually see your body changing - that's when you will start to believe :)
Came to your video because I've been busting my butt in the gym for 2 weeks STRAIGHT and the scale didn't move today.. I'm sooo mad. BUT I SEE A DIFFERENCE IN MY BODY. From my before and after pic.. I see a difference
I use my old clothes to check if I'm losing weight 😅 I have clothes from way back in 2014 that don't fit anymore after I had my first baby. I try them on to check if I'm making any progress 😅
Awesome!!! Yes this is a great way to check your progress, but just remember even if you don’t fit in those clothes from pre-baby - you are probably still making great progress, your body has just changed now! Keep working hard!! 👌🏼👌🏼💪🏻💪🏻
When i go to the GP they go by the scales i have lost inches my clothes are much loser so i know for a fact i am losing body fat i have made big changes in my diet i weighed myself yesterday and today ive gained a pound yet since 2 weeks ago my waist has gone from 40in to 38in and I've been going to the gym and doing weight training and cardio only once a week as I'm a busy mum of 4 so i get exercise daily anyway.. watching this video has helped me lots x
This video has cheered me up so much , I was disappointed with zero movement on scales despite feeling slimmer and actually losing 1bmi also 2” on waist , it must be iv gained Muscle mass and lost fat as iv been in a massive calorie deficit and eating so much protein?
thank youuuu so much for this i need it to hear this im going crazy i feel like i shouldnt eat anything to lose weight but thank u thank u for this video i think i will see it everytime i need tooo!!!
Thank you. Bc my weight has fluctuated but pretty much stayed the same for about 6 weeks, but I've lost nearly 2 inches from waist and hips and back... and I couldn't understand why...and it was soul destroying....
I am in calorie deficit ( 400-500 calories), have been going to the gym doing cardio and heavy weight lifting 5 times per week, for 1.5 month and i lost 3 pounds .. i need to work on my patience. I put the scale in the closet because I do not see much progress in losing weight and I was VERY frustrated and have a bad day if the weight is not moving down .. LOL.
Hey Marylene! Yes it can be very frustrating for sure, but it sounds like you are doing everything right - patience is key, but remember to track your progress with measurements and pictures as well, as this matters more than just the number on the scale :) Keep going on don't give up!!
@@MichelleRoots thank you for your support..I love you videos..I met with a friend yesterday that I have not seen for months.. He told me I got a lot of muscles .. Lol. I don't have any pics from when I started 1.5 months ago.. It's encouraging
I’m one of those, on a clean diet for about 4 weeks have not dropped a pound but definitely inches my clothes feels loose I wake up feeling lean. I’m for once being patient with myself. I even cut cardio down to 2-3 sessions of 20 mins per week. 🙏🏼😄
THIS!! YES! So well explained thank you! I wanted to ask would growithjo workout work to lose fat and inches? Is growithjo considered cardio or hiit or straight training? I'm just want to lean down overall like you said, would pilates help with that? I'm quite confused as to which "exercise" to focus on (along with caloric deficient of course) Any guidance would be appreciated.
hello I am going into the military soon but my weight is 213. in February I looked sooooo fat but the few months I've been running a lot and eating healthy now I look soooooo much slimmer but it is not showing on the scale can you help me?
Hey Suselle - if you feel great and "look" slimmer then really who cares what the scale says right?? Well that's my personal opinion lol.... Just keep doing what you are doing, I"m sure the scale will drop eventually :)
Thank you! This is such an informative video and gives me a bit of a better idea of why my weight has been fluctuating. I am currently 9 and a half months postpartum and my weight has been in a plateau for about six months. I was always used to being at 125 pre-baby size 5-7 jeans and have been 140-142 postpartum. However, I have been losing inches and back to a size 7. I have not been exercising consistently like I did prior to my pregnancy (twice a week here and there when I am not tired) so it's a bit confusing if it is fat loss, muscle loss etc. 🤦♀️
Yes!!! If you are losing inches what you are doing is working keep going... the scale will move eventually, but in the big picture that number does not define you! How you feel and how your clothes are fitting is much more important :). Great work and thanks for watching!
Hey Sonya! Keep lifting because there are so many benefits to strength training and you can try adding in some zone two cardio or just walking as well. Hope this helps :)
Can anyone link me to Michelle's video where she posts before and after pics of the client who lost 1lb of scale weight please? I need to show my friend.
If your waist measurements are going down then it's working - the body fat on a scale is not 100% accurate, use your measurements and how your clothes are fitting more.
I totally agree, but in my case is importat for.me get the scale moving since I requested to lose weight for surgery. If my BMI is high, they won't do my surgery. Help me with that please.
I'm thanking Baby Jesus for you again, Michelle! I just ran back to this video after seeing gains on the scale for two freaking monthly weigh in's (5 lbs July 29th, .5 lbs August 29th)! Yes, I'm visibly smaller and I feel so much stronger but I was SOOOO CLOSE to dropping my calories (again) or ditching fruit and switching menopause symptoms supplements but now I'm mentally back on point! *deep breaths*
I just found your channel.... I have been on a deficit for so long eating around 1000 calories, and then i went up to 1500cal and adding weight training, i didn't lose any weight or size, i started adding some calories 50calories/week (reverse diet) up to my maintenance to get my metabolism working again. I'm 5'2 and 138 lb with 29%body fat. Is that fine? Btw i try to lift a big heavier everytime i hit the gym... If is not weight is a rep or so. Push/pull and leg day 4 days per week. Thank you !
Hey!!! Great job sounds like you are on the right track. As for your body fat percentage being "fine"- what's matters most is you are comfortable in your own body. If you are working hard to take care of your health, lift weights, eat healthy and you are feeling great then it is more than fine! Continue to challenge yourself and remember it's a lifestyle and a lifelong journey that is never complete. I think it sounds like you are doing great though!
Iam losing inches but my stomach getting larger any suggestions iam weight lifting and doing bike as cardio because it feels easier on my knees iam so frustrated my stomach looks so much bigger
Hi Kianna, I would say this could be down to your nutrition. Make sure you are eating in a calorie deficit and getting lot's of protein, drinking lot's of water etc. If the stomach getting larger is due to bloating you might have food intolerances.
Hi dear Angel 😊.....this was your first video which I watched a couple of days back when I was facing this situation.....and your explanation convinced me as well as clarified my doubts to much extent. I am on this journey this time not to just loose weight but to loose extra fat , to look leaner more fitter....my inches are dropping satisfactorily but scale was making me little disappointed.....now I am bit relaxed after your explanation. I have few questions. 1. How does fat go away from body .....what is the order and way....or it is random and varies from person to person? 2. I have successfully lost inches from waist, below waist, chest, thighs also few centimeters from arms too .....but what about back fat....not the bra bulge....that is going.....but extreme upper back.....the place right below the ponytail.....the place which is called hump. 3. I have more fat now on upper body than lower body.....what to do? 4. I want weight reduction also ...not huge....but a few kilos ....of 7,8 kg. I am currently at 65kg. 5 feet 4 inches. When my weight goes to near 60 kg then I feel more light.....but this time after I have started weights and strength exercises......weight is quite slow to move..... It's not that I am disappointed....I am happy.....feeling great with the process.... But Angel....I need your guidance.....when people like you are there on this planet....then why to worry... You are just an angel 😊
It's so freaky! I am, in my opinion, 30 lbs overweight. I've been taking progress pictures and I look totally different but that weight hasn't budged which is insane to me. Like, where is the mass going?! Certainly, I couldn't have gained that much muscle 😂 but I'm continually leaning out in the midsection and boobs but my shirts are getting tighter across my back and shoulders and my pants are a struggle to get over my thighs but fall off my waist 😂
Went from sz44 to sz36 in 3 months. I used to go crazy over the scale. lol but once the clothes start fitting different. I knew something was working. 🫡
I hope this video helped you understand why you might be losing inches but not weight. Don't forget to grab your free calorie deficit guide here: michelleroots.com/work-with-me/ and of course SUBSCRIBE for new videos every week!
I went from a 8 to a 6 with only 3 lbs of weight loss. It's the inches for me. I'm on my way to a size 4. Thanks for the video.
Well done Meme!!! That's great! keep going and keep me posted on your progress!

Story of my life.Wanted to cry, after 2months of hard working and IF the scale is not moving .However, the clothes are fitting better!
Thank you so much for this, I have been dieting and lifting weights for 6 weeks already and I am a little dissapointed because I only lost 2 kilos and this explains everything, guess I need to keep going, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I was getting discouraged until I seen this video thanks!
Glad it was helpful!!!
I loved this video, so helpful, cheerful. You have a new subscriber. Thank you!
HI Jessica that's awesome! Thanks for the sub and so glad you found the video helpful!

I m new subscriber ❤
I was facing trouble in weight sclae i lost inches but not weight but now i m feeling good
Last weight 61.7
After two months 59.2
Thanks ❤this video make sense very helpful thanks
@@MichelleRoots thank you for your response! I needed the encouragement ❤️
@@MsLeahCEO you are very welcome!
Came to your video because I've been busting my butt in the gym for 2 weeks STRAIGHT and the scale didn't move today.. I'm sooo mad. BUT I SEE A DIFFERENCE IN MY BODY. From my before and after pic.. I see a difference
Amazing then it's working!! Keep going :)
Thank you for the encouragement!
You are so welcome!
Great job, Roots!
Thanks Neptune!! Hope you enjoyed the info!
I’m happy I found you lol thanks so much
You are very welcome Nicole! Glad you are finding my videos helpful!! 👌🏼💪🏻
This video has cheered me up so much , I was disappointed with zero movement on scales despite feeling slimmer and actually losing 1bmi also 2” on waist , it must be iv gained Muscle mass and lost fat as iv been in a massive calorie deficit and eating so much protein?
Glad it was helpful!
thank youuuu so much for this i need it to hear this im going crazy i feel like i shouldnt eat anything to lose weight but thank u thank u for this video i think i will see it everytime i need tooo!!!
You're so welcome!
Im going through the same problem 😢
Thank you
You're welcome
Amazing video 👍🏻 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! I"m glad you enjoyed it and hope it was helpful!
I have lose 37 pounds so far. Same weight for 5 days. Losing inches.
Congrats on your weight loss so far!! Just keep going - if you are losing inches it's still working!
i am bothered about htat number on the scale because i know that when i am lean and fit as a fiddle , i am 80kg , not 95kg.
I’m one of those, on a clean diet for about 4 weeks have not dropped a pound but definitely inches my clothes feels loose I wake up feeling lean. I’m for once being patient with myself. I even cut cardio down to 2-3 sessions of 20 mins per week. 🙏🏼😄
Are u srs? Thats crazy I really wanna see my scale number go down
But should I lose weight on the scale if I have 50 pounds to lose ? Like I cant stay at a high way forever
THIS!!
I'm sorry I"m not familiar with those workouts. I highly recommend strength training with progressive overload.
hello I am going into the military soon but my weight is 213.
in February I looked sooooo fat but the few months I've been running a lot and eating healthy now I look soooooo much slimmer but it is not showing on the scale
can you help me?
Glad it was helpful Hannah!
I've lost nearly 8 inches in 2 months but scale has barely moved is this good?
Yes!!! If you are losing inches what you are doing is working keep going... the scale will move eventually, but in the big picture that number does not define you! How you feel and how your clothes are fitting is much more important :). Great work and thanks for watching!
@@MichelleRoots thank you ☺️
@@prayagagrawal3979 you are very welcome!
Nice video but what about obese person do I keep lifiting or do I just do crazy cardio till I loose a bit
Hey Sonya! Keep lifting because there are so many benefits to strength training and you can try adding in some zone two cardio or just walking as well. Hope this helps :)
Can anyone link me to Michelle's video where she posts before and after pics of the client who lost 1lb of scale weight please? I need to show my friend.
My body fat is not dropping on the scale either. Only my waist
If your waist measurements are going down then it's working - the body fat on a scale is not 100% accurate, use your measurements and how your clothes are fitting more.
Where can I find the link for the smart scale? Thanks!

I totally agree, but in my case is importat for.me get the scale moving since I requested to lose weight for surgery. If my BMI is high, they won't do my surgery. Help me with that please.
Yes in certain instances movement on the scale is important. Has your doctor given you any advice on nutrition or exercise to help reach this goal??
Thanks
You are very welcome!
Yes girl!!! deeepppp breaths - .5 of a pound is nothing at all!! If you are visibly smaller and you feel good - you are crushing it! Keep going!!
The scale is such an addiction!
Getting ready do 8 miles this morning.
I just turned 59.
awesome!!!

What if I want to lose weight but also fat? How can I do that?
Check out my video on body recomposition here it might be more helpful! ua-cam.com/video/h4nLNNbR9o8/v-deo.html
Hi,I am following proper diet for 4 years, now I gained Lil bit weight, again Started excercise, but no weight loss,
Pls suggest how to loss weight??
Been eating healthier and working out for 4 months and my weight is still thr same but lost inches. I threw the scale in the garbage
So glad you found the video helpful!
Im going through the same thing I feel like im getting thin and the scale wont even move more the 5 pounds I lost
Wow you just described my experience!
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you and glad the video was helpful!!
It definitely was! Anything in particular you would recommend a person with hypoglycemia doing any different or it should work all the same?
she is cute, her fiance is gonna be giggling morning noon and night
Went from sz44 to sz36 in 3 months. I used to go crazy over the scale. lol but once the clothes start fitting different. I knew something was working. 🫡
