So wt. scale really doesn't mean anything. I am gonna go with how my clothes fit. Screw the scale. I have so much variability of wt like between 5-8 lbs.

Believed I owned a seesaw, not a scale! Each one of these 8 is obvious, but putting them all together in one video was a wow moment for me. Thanks so much. Also you saying others deal with scale fluctuations to the point you advise them, gave me the emotional boost of 'not alone'. Bigger thanks for that. Love your content.

I appreciate this video! 3 weeks ago I started 240lbs I'm 6'5 and in the 20s bf by guess. Last two weeks I have dropped around 1.5 lbs a week. At around 2700 cals when the estimated tdee is 3200ish.
All my lifts in the gym have increased huge. This morning I checked in and I'm up 2.4 lbs. I been tracking my cals religiously. This video really helped because 3 days over nights then I revert my sleep schedule back to normal on y off days. I get up around 3-330am and hit the gym. However, I think you nailed it when you talked about sleep. this week my body is doing this weird thing where I'm in bed about 730/8 but I'm wide awake at midnight!
Everything in the mirror shows progress. I should have started in the beginning but because the scale only shows you total weight. Started taking waist measurements.
Plus yesterday, went out for the first time to try a new snack places my total cals were a lot of carbs and salt.
Also I'm on an extreme budget, protein powders and the like are too expensive now. So I have to stick rice, ramen (half the seasoning pack) tuna. Blue box Mac n Cheese.
Not trying to get all crazy ripped like show, just ditching the dad bod I gained after back surgery 5 years ago. I'm finally able to get back in the gym and work legs.
Appreciate your time, just kinda wanted to vent out and say I appreciate your video!

Thank you, thank you and thank you. Woke up two days ago and weighed as I normally do for the last 2 months and the number was higher than my last week's weigh in. That put me in a real funk and I considered revamping my whole nutrition plan. But listening to this really put somethings in perspective so now I'm back on track. Thanks again lol

Great content Paul and Dani! It is so critical to know why the scale goes up so we aren’t making unnecessary changes. I just started a channel about eating out while accomplishing your fitness/nutrition goals. Things like sodium, water, etc can play a roll in water weight, but not necessarily fat gain. Thanks for your content and support!

💯 Along with the water and sodium retention is the change of atmosphere. Either traveling or living in an area where the weather is inconsistent. Part of the factor why people that are in sports that need to make weight arrive at the venue a week or two weeks before to get adjusted

My official weigh-in for my health journal is once a week, to smooth out any variations. But they can still be obvious. There are weeks where I’ll lose just a half pound, but there are others where I’ll lose more than two. But keeping it just once a week means that I’ll still lose something, however small. And I’m also consistent about the time - first thing in the morning, after I use the bathroom (both no. 1 and 2), and before my first drink of water. This factors out some of the variations you discussed from water and food. It also means that I’ll be at my lightest possible, but I don’t consider it cheating. I’m not concerned about the absolute number anyway; I just want to track my progress.

Another big reason for me is water retention due to air travel. I travel a lot for business and will typically not weigh myself for at least 2 days after my return trip. Otherwise the scale could show up to 5 pounds heavier. Better for the psyche to skip the scale for 2 days.

Greg Doucette is always preaching this and I would like to know what studies there are confirming this could be the case. Also, if you are building muscle on maintenance calories would your body be using any excess body fat as energy for then building the muscle then leading to a small amount of fat loss? Celtic sea salt in terms of nutritional value is best before and after, usually a tablespoon for your average athlete will suffice, but if your doing long distance cardio or extensive HIIT training then possibly more before the heavy activity. Just some added info.. a medium sized beet, raw or juices (preferably raw and thoroughly washed) 90 min prior to your extensive workout routine will do wonders for your stamina, look up its nutritional benefits and see for yourself.

HI, yes iv'e noticed this , i'm dropping fat, have been about 163 lbs for a week or so BUT then for two days the scales were showing about 165.3 ish , however it has come back down today to 163
My eating had stayed the same calorie wise so i realised it was NOT fat gain, it couldn't be really , and unlikely to be 2 lb muscle gain sadly ;) so i rightfully ignored it ( still didn't like it tho) so yes the weight fluctuates , if things are same food and training wise i IGNORE IT.

I dont see drinking the same amount of water and consuming same amount of sodium is a good advice. When dieting people are restricting themselves enough, why worry about water and salt as well. So what if it makes the scale results less consistent, as long as the calorie intake is on point fat will for sure be lost.
