Opposite problem for me, can literally lose a good amount of weight by slacking behind a little bit for one day. Miss one meal and it'll be some pounds. Also cap out at a certain weight and can't gain anymore, no matter how many more calories I'm adding. In fact I've lost weight while eating hundreds of calories more then I'm supposed to need in order to be gaining. Literally like it's just passing through me

@@aena5995 NOT telling you to stop your medication, but I have the same problem too with estrogen dominance. Just started learning about it from having painful periods that have gotten unbearable over the years and not finding any decent help or answers for the pain.
Ive learned there are diets and certain foods for esteogen dominance that can actually reduce estrogen...particularly sea vegetables and some fish if you dont have allergies. I notice that whenever I eat fish I always drop weight effortlessly compared to when I try to calorie cut with chicken and other lean meats in my diet. I only seem to drop weight flawlessly with fish or while eating seaweed and plant based meals only.
Sugar & any form of dairy also raises estrogen & feeds ovarian cysts and fibroids. Ice cream and cheese are a big one for me and makes me gain weight QUICK even when I limit servings or stay under my calorie budget. I still gain when eating processed foods, or dairy. For example, I worked hard for 3 weeks to drop almost 10lbs only to gain it all back in 3 days when I fell off my diet and ate pizza 2 days, and ice cream another day 😭. And I was still at my maintence level and exercised! Wtf!
Anyways lol Im venting at this point. In your free time...
UA-cam things like "Dr. Berg estrogen domincance" "Dr. Berg ovary body type" "estrogen dominance diet" things like that. It was very helpful for me. Long story short, cruciferous vegetables help shuttle estrogen out of the body, iodine lowers estrogen and keeps it at the right level (dont just take iodine supplements, you need selenium with iodine and can sometimes be dangerous to supplement. it also doesn't always fix the problem right away...so thats why you need to research this first to see what's going in with your body). If a person is estrogen dominant, they may have a fatty or congested liver to begin with due to eating too mamy refined sugars or underlining insulin resistance....and the undetected liver problems caused the body to not dump estrogen properly and it builds up in the body and works on the thyroid kinda and resembles symptoms of hypothyroid as well.....since the thyroid also helps lower or regulate estrogen. The excess esteogen also causes fibroids, cysts, lumps in breasts, heavy bleeding, thick uterine lining...things like that. I think this was more of my case, so I need to heal and support my liver. So resesrch to see what your case may fall under! Just sharing what I learned, but look into this and I hope it helps!

I have a suggestion, keep it up , think of it as a forever lifestyle, don't think of it as a diet or a temporary thing, if u aren't losing at least u have a lifestyle that u aren't gaining, also I would suggest 1 once a week a 48 hours fasting, it might help to change your slowing metabolism,
You need to win in a long run, think of it as a let's say 10 year thing, if u want to improve u should think of it as a very long thing and being ready psychologycaly to make at least a 10 years effort,. Short fast progress is useles u will gain it back or want be psychologycaly able to keep it in the long run

Cut out carbs and sugar. Eat whole foods and practice intermittent fasting. You just need patience. The best food to reset your body is cabbage soup. Cabbage soup is nutrition dense and your body burns more calories trying to digest it because it is so calories deficient. Plus it resets your gut enzymes and biom.

That doesn't work for everyone. We don't eat refined processed sugar and exercise actually can and has continued to cause exercise-induced cardiomyopathy, and which is grossly underreported. Moreover, if you have allergies to cabbage, that does not work either.

    • @jennyonthespectrum4581

You need carbs for your body to run. Yes, cut out refined sugar, but still eat fruits and vegetables. Whole grain with fiber is also fine (ex oatmeal). Eating one type of food only will make you nutritionally deficient. Cabbage also will make you gassy. Then, you're less likely to exercise.

I totally relate to these comments. I have been plateaued in my weight loss attempt for 3 years now and have tried every possible diet strategy known to man and mean EVERY!!! I’ve eaten in every calories range possible from maintenance to small deficit to extreme deficits all in increments of 2-3 months on each and gave each method ample time to see results and never do. Everyone keeps telling me that my body is happy where it’s at but I don’t buy that. I have had body composition tests done and show I am like 38-40% body fat at 170lbs and I can’t stop yo-yoing between the same 5 lbs. I have done cardio and strength training routines on and off. I’ve done combos, cardio solo, weight training solo and my arms and belly fat are still sooooooooooooo high. I’ve had my bloodwork done multiple times and all of my thyroid and hormone levels are NORMAL. I don’t live a high stress lifestyle. I have a steady day and night routine, get at least 7 hours of sleep every night, drink half of my body weight in water a day and eat mostly clean with a splash of indulgence only once in a while. When I say I can check ALL of the weight loss suggestions off the list, I can and then some. I seem to be more diligent in this than anyone I know personally and yet still my progress is so slow or doesn’t exist at all. A few months ago I got so frustrated I said screw it and just stopped tracking everything and ate anything and everything I craved or wanted. Quickly went off of the rails and easily gained about 12 lbs within a couple of months and that was NOT binge eating at all. That was simply not restricting in any way. I gain weight so quickly and lose so slowly and with no explanation! I am so sick of this shit. I watch so many videos that my brain is mush and no matter what new method I try to incorporate it doesn’t work. No one believes me. My boyfriend watches how committed I am and how well I eat and try to get 30 min of movement in each day and he feels sorry for me that I don’t have the progress. It doesn’t make sense.

I gained 30 lbs during the pandemic due to being extremely inactive/eating a ton of junk. I'm now the heaviest i've ever been. Once I finally found the motivation to make changes by counting my calories and exercising every day, the scale still has not budged whatsoever (maybe 1.5 lbs up and down). Worst part is, if i have a weekend out where I don't eat great/drink alcohol, the scale shoots up and I'm not at a new "heaviest weight". I've never struggled this much to lose weight my entire life and its pretty upsetting.

After I stopped however I gained 11 KG over my starting weight in a period of 2 months.

I’m a regular gym goer 3-4 week and I’ve been on Keto for about 8 weeks and I also do IF for 18hrs fasting to 6 hours eating window. I’ve lost some weight around my belly but want more. I’m 6’3” with 40” waist. Few questions: was diagnosed with inactive thyroid and was prescribed 100mcg of levothyroxine a day which I take daily after my fasting period ends. After a further half hour I can eat. Q1 is the levothyroxine or this high dose interfering with my weight loss - is it preventing it as it controls my metabolism? Q2 I’ve been going through everything I consume after eliminating most carbs I feel that I am in ketosis with the benefits of being in ketosis you describe but I have found traces of sugar in things like turkey rashers. Kefir also sunflower oil in the D3 and coq10, and omega 3-6-9 supplements I take, so Q2 do I need to eliminate all traces of sugar and all these unhealthy oils in my supplements if I want to maximise burning more body fat? I don’t count calories as I’m not a massive eater and I only eat twice a day and don’t snack at all. I try and eat whole foods eggs, turkey, chicken, mushrooms salads etc. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

what did you do? I am doing Keto and nothing has happened in the last 5 years I have been doing it. I am not gaining any weight but I certainly did not lose any either, I would say I have a good 30 lbs to lose. I never eat any carbs of any kind, I fast all day for at least 18-20 hours minimum, I drink a black coffee in the morning that is it. I never ate any bread, cereals, cake or cookies before, never cared for them, no pasta, no legumes, no starch either, no sugar of any kind as I never liked it, no sodas or sugary coffee or tea, no sweets of any kinds, no processed food, I cook everything, basic as I get home from work at around 7h30 - 8pm and I have to be back at 9h, I am pretty mellow, so not much of a dressed person, I have learned to not get angry or hyped. but nothing works in the weight loss department.

@@acarriere8534 Hi Alain from my perspective the key is a mix between diet (doesn´t seems to be the issue because I follow a very similar diet maybe due to mediterranean eating habits I eat too much vegetables ) and exercise (at least I work out 5 days at week).
From my own opinion the key of keto is stop the cravings because you increase the fats and proteins (and the body is not efficient in order to process them regarding carbs) but keep in mind that eat daily a lot of fat could turn the ph blood scale more acidic so the body -in order to maintain the ph scale- can gets mineral salts, magnesium and so on from body joints. I´ve had a joint pain for several months until I started taking mineral supplements.

  • @camgere
    @camgere 4 роки тому +13

Absolutely true. I've used willpower to lose weight (e.g. 40 and 60 lbs.) but eventually I stopped losing weight even after calorie cut after calorie cut. Your body does have regulatory mechanisms, so food is not like putting gas in a gas tank where it just goes down as you run around. It is more like getting a paycheck. If your paycheck goes down 25% you find a way to lower your spending 25% (voluntarily or not). So I eventually doubled the calories that I had cut in half after my diet stopped producing results. I now gained weight back even faster with my new efficient metabolism! I call this dieting up your weight. I had toast and hashbrowns with breakfast for decades. I now recognize this as a carbohydrate bomb. I thought that was good healthy, basic food (food pyramid) and the omelette with eggs, meat and cheese was the rich, fatty diet killer. I had it backwards. Now that I have a low carb diet I am controlling my blood sugar and insulin. Weight loss is much easier. I guess we will see how the end of diet goes, but I am not going back to a high carb diet.

I’m also dieting and you can’t target the fat or specific areas but can target the muscle. If you add a couple press-ups pull ups etc the body will divert water protein and fats to re building the muscle than Storting fat

Over a couple of weeks of eating healthy and daily exercise (three weekly one-on-one PT sessions and walking) I did manage to lost about 5kg ... but then, as I did even more, for the next 5 weeks I really only lost about 0.2kg a week. I was logging everything and burning about 12,000 more calories per week than I was consuming. So it was very frustrating with all that I was doing.
Thankfully about a month ago, I remembered that when I did really well in 2016 with weight loss, it was a low carb approach, with easy walking and, not deliberately, intermittent fasting. I realised insulin resistance needed to be addressed.
So I switched to LCHF and IF (at the moment 20:4) and have lost about 6kg over the past 3 weeks, and am really enjoying this approach again. Already too my blood sugars are back down in the mid 5's (100) when they were not below about 7.1 before. And inflammation has decreased too -- I have a weekly trigger point massage and my therapists are noticing much less inflammation. And I have more energy too in my PT sessions.
I can see that sticking to LCHF/IF and with some HIIT, strength and walking, I'll smash my goal weight. Glad I found this channel so I can do more carb dodging!

Hi, just subscribed to your channel and newsletter. As someone who is on keto since Feb 2020 and intermittent fasting 16:8 most days since April 2020 and has somewhat plateaued on weightloss, thanks for highlighting the influence of insulin.
When I was 16 (now 38) I was also diagnosed with PCOS. I don't have the cycts any longer (just unexplained infertility), but I definitely know I suffer from high insulin levels.
Since starting keto my periods have also been like clockwork. So there is definitely a relationship between reducing insulin and fertility.
If you have any suggestions for women with PCOS, pls do make a video 🙏🏼

1st....I'm not overweight, but I'm just very interested in what's right and wrong. Its easy as you say for some to say just do this or just do that. However, it's not always straight forward and in my opinion, you have to make your own mind up as to what is the right decision. That's where it becomes difficult to choose, coz you feel like, am I going to do more damage than good. Also that they say avoid stress as it raises cortisol, but you can stress yourself by worry of that correct choice. After watching many videos on this subject, I'm confident what you say is 100% correct. I also liked your slower and clear explanation in simple, easy to understand ways.
My thoughts are, if you are worrying that you may be doing the wrong thing by changing something, ask yourself something.
    1. Have you been doing the same thing for years. As example,if u have pretty much lived on sugar for 10, 20, 30+ years, then would it be really that bad seeing if anything changes with something different in just 1 year.? I mean you have stressed your body for possibly 30+ years, so what's a 1 year or months test gonna harm. ? If you feel something terrible, then listen to your body and stop.
    2. Are you overweight, in pain, always tired, etc.? Well clearly a change is a good option, as the option you have chose to this day has gave you these issues. So ignoring it is just burying your head in the sand and just hoping for a magic cure.
I mean if your car was playing up, sounding dodgy, would you get it looked at fixed or wait for something to go.......BANG.
your life is more important than anything, as it's not as simple as saying....oh well......I'll pop to the shops and buy another. 😲
I subscribed and wish you and everyone else all the best. 😷👌

I really wish I could have a 1 on 1 with someone like him because I just started my 3rd month of keto, have been in ketosis since the beginning (besides 1 stupid slim fast shake that had 1g of maltodextrin that I had before I learned about the different sugars lol) but the pat two weeks I’ve been eating 800-1,200 calories, around 6-15 net carbs and an always in a calorie deficit and I’ve stalled!! Twice!! Last time I upped my net carbs to get closer to the 20 and it helped but I’ve tried that this time and nothing. It’s very discouraging.
I’ve been in a deficit of about 600-1,000 calories lately and I wonder if that’s too much? I’m actually having trouble finding foods with carbs to help me get to my 20 net carbs because I’m so use to eating as few carbs as I can now. It’s just getting hard when it hasn’t been hard this whole time! (Except during my “monthly”. Omg that’s horrible lol).

Just to give an example, I've worked as a baggage handler/warehouse worker, which involved lots of walking, and at the same time I was doing martial arts twice a week and running or cycling three times a week, plus one weekly weight training session. Do you think I lost weight? No ! I'm still training though, but I think the only way is to be extremely strict with your diet (No processed food ! ) - no sugar for a start and watch your fruit intake because although it's healthy it has lots of fructose. I've been told it's 80% diet, especially if you're an endomorph build and are being treated with a thyroid condition. I think part of it's also genetics - sometimes your relatives on one side of your family would all be a bit over weight or chunky in build. I for one am about 2-3 stone over weight, as it varies over time. I also found that training every single day made my fitness degenerate and left me fatigued with sore joints, so now I'd train every other day and do some lighter exercise during the days in between. It's frustrating as hell when the exercise gets you no visible results and you get those types who could eat loads of crap, not train and still never put any weight on.

    G'day @Dr Dan Maggs
Could you please do a video that focuses on how to strategically incorporate exercise into a ketogenic lifestyle? A couple of questions I had in mind where: what does one need to know about exercise if doing intermittent fasting (e.g, can you exercise during IR, or should you wait until your non-fast periods to exercise); what are the best keto friendly foods to eat before/after exercising; are any particular forms of exercise better/worse on keto (for e.g, can you still achieve the same benefits in certain high octane exercises on keto that you do on a higher carb diet) any other need-to-knows about combining keto with excercise.
Thank you for your advice !!
    Cheers
    Tom

Hello, I need some advice in terms of running, I have started running on a treadmill since 03/01/2019, at that time I weighed in at 84 kgs, I stand at 5 feet 5 inches…my routine is like this, warmup for 2 minutes at 6km/hr , then running at 9km/hr for next 20 minutes, thereafter cool of at 6km/hr for 6 minutes, then 5km/hr for 2 minutes and finally 3km/hr for 2 mins…total 32 mins activity and the distance covered is generally close to 4 km or just over, calories burnt between 280-290 cal…I reduced from 84 to 72 kgs this way, however my weight is stagnant at 72-73 kgs since last 5 months, my diet remains same as it was earlier…any suggestions what I need to do reduce weight further…it’s as if I have hit a block for some time

I have been doing strict keto for the past year and not lost more than 1 pound so I am starting to think it is all BS, I never eat any carbs and I limit all kind of food, not even eating tomatoes to the point I have been told they are bad, so I only eat a very strict keto food and nothing ever happens! I am eating once a day at 8 at night, I eat leafy greens first and then some protein with mostly nothing else and some fat. other than that a black coffee in the morning. I entered all my food in an app and calculated everything to a T, was on point for more than 6 months and nothing not even half a pound loss. so Keto or anything is BS as much as I am concerned, I still do not eat ANY carbs and limit my food to a max of 1500-1700 cals a day.

    I didn't work out since 2018 until January 16, 2021.
I used to eat rice thrice or twice a day (from Asia) in all those days.
I was around 60-62 kilos back then in 2016-17 when I used to workout regular.
Now I weigh 70 kilos and despite of cutting down my rice quantity and making small changes in my eating habits like avoiding fast-food and sweets, yet I'm not able to lose much weight. I've been working out 4 times a week since January 16th, its already April and I hardly lost 1kilo.
Also my workout is around 90 mins with 10-20 mins cardio (daily) and the remaining is split routine that goes like:
    Day 1 - Chest + triceps (regular ≈ intense) + forearms
    Day 2 - Back + biceps + abs
    Day 3 - off
    Day 4 - shoulder+ triceps (light) + forearms
    Day 5 - off
    Day 6 - Legs + abs
    Day 7 - off
Before January 2021, I didn't workout at all, nothing, nada! Just daily chores.
Why am I not losing weight? I mean I'm still burning a lot more calories than I did in last few years.

Hi, I just started a keto diet. The reason I did was I am a type 2 diabetic, I am over weight and not happy about it. I just saw my doctor a week ago and my A1c was 8.6. All he wanted me to do was take more insulin. I went home and thought about it and figured out on my own that it seemed I was going in the wrong direction. So what you have said in this video is exactly where I have been for a long time. It sucks. Usually when I get to work I would have a banana and coffee with cream and lots of sugar. Now I have green tea and a grapefruit or a pear. Thanks for your video’s, I can do this.

thats an over simplification of insulin's role tho. it stores glucose as fat...yes but also into your liver and muscle tissue as well. This is a god approach for some people who lead a sedentary life, but for athletic people, can be very misinforming. Ketosis CAN be affective, but is also very hard to maintain on a traditional American diet.

I mean ones that seem like I cannot control the urge to eat ravenously! Good news is I have been reverse dieting and it has prevented any weight gain at all. So that is wonderful news because I was always easily gaining weight for a while, not that doesn't happen even when I have eaten 3 or so cookies or a large piece of cake. No weight gain at all. Usually that would cause a lot of edema and weight gain for weeks, with a hard time losing it, but not anymore.

I eat when I'm hungry, I don't restrict and starve myself, I eat lots of vegetables and I workout often. I see it as a lifestyle not a diet. It's something I am going to continue for the rest of my life and I don't get as bothered by my weight on the scales because it doesn't calculate my muscle, I measure mostly. Doing this and having this mindset I lost 35lbs.

I have cut my diet really low and working out for 2 hr a day and I brealy lose weight and I did this diet before in 2015 . I would lose 8 - 10 pounds a month in 2015 and now In 2020 eating much least food and losing 4 pounds a month ? What would I need to do to lose more weight ?

So switch to high fiber fruits, veg and grains from low fiber carbs, processed carbs and refined sugars. Then continue to exercise to maintain muscle fibers whilest fat burns and doesnt replace.

I'm keto and already low calories 1300-1400 a day (I have pcos so my deficit needs to be lower than average woman).
So my weight/body measurements have stalled. I weight train 2-3 days a week. I have added H.I.I.T. 30 minutes a day.
Thinking I may need to do a feast and/or fast to reboot. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I'll wait a couple of weeks. I have heard if a stall last more than month, than that's when to take action.

Many of us don’t buy “calories in/calories out”, and we know that it doesn’t work because we’ve been there and done that, for years and even decades for some people. We followed the conventional wisdom and genuinely adhered, counting calories in and calories out meticulously. Like it does for upwards of 99% of the population, it stopped working after a few months. Your body simply adjusts to the new reduced number of calories that you’re eating. Then you have to keep eating that reduced number of calories not to lose weight, but to keep from gaining weight. It’s not the number of calories. It’s the source of your calories and how frequently you eat that matter most. Those are the keys to weight loss and getting healthy. Your body’s response to the ingredients in processed foods and to high levels of insulin are most likely the true cause of why you’re not losing weight even though you’re counting calories and exercising regularly. Overly-restricting calories is actually harmful or at least futile unless you’re controlling for hormones, and the way that you should reduce calories is by fasting, not by counting calories and eating frequently. If you keep your blood sugar stable and your insulin low, you can go into a fasted state where your body uses its own stored energy for fuel, and it doesn’t down-regulate your metabolism, so you just keep on burning body fat at a higher rate.

I've not been able to lose a single pound in weight since April. I started my healthy in February, started going gym until lockdown. Since working from home in April I haven't lost anything despite trying so hard. I knew something was wrong. It's not normal to not lose any weight in 5 months. I've been on keto over 2 months and still NOTHING! Been looking into this and just ordered 3 different pills for weightloss. If I don't lose anything in another 3 months I'm giving up.

I have the same situation. I only lost two kilos and that's it. I've been tried a lot of ways but all of them are not effective. They said avoid all unhealthy foods but I feel weak in my legs. Doing half rice is not effective unless if you take Metformin. I only do exercise for my heart only.

@@projectmystica2445 after 18 months I still haven't lost weight despite exercising a lot and changing my diet. I stopped eating all junk, even sugar. I only drink water and only eat healthy meals with protein and vegetables. No treats, no snacking. My thyroid was checked in 2020 and was told it was normal. No other explanation for why I can't lose weight.

@@projectmystica2445 the only thing I've noticed since I've changed my diet to healthy is that my eyesight has worsened, my skin had darkened patches, very dry. My health is worse now than when I was eating bad foods. I'm very weak, and I have more pains in my body that now need investigating. I have to have a ultrasound and ct scan plus have my blood work done.

Hi...just found you tonight. I am finding your videos very informative. I am only starting to learn about insulin resistance and it's negative impact on weight loss. I have been dieting since I was 12 years old ( my Mom started me) and at 62 I am at my highest weight. Throughout my life, I did succeed on some diets sometimes but the weight always came back. A year ago I did have good results on a keto diet but then regained the weight plus more. At this time I am frustrated, upset and I am scared...yes scared! I am only 5 ft tall and my body is keeping on gaining no matter what I do. I am a retired nurse (think lots of night shifts) and I do have hypothyroidism but I am maintained on Synthroid. My next stop is to buy a very powerful vacuum and some tubing and start doing my own liposuction!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

1-2 pounds a week is the maximum one can safely--and sustainably--lose. It ain't fun but it works. I've lost 43 pounds and counting--at age 70. First 30 took 6 months. Next 10 took another six months. Five-pronged attack necessary for me: 1) really change what I eat forever--zero processed foods, no meat, ovo-lacto-piscatory diet (protein from lowfat dairy, eggs, salmon), nuts, a ton of fruit and veg; 2) 3-4 miles a day of walking, no fail; 3) keeping a strict food diary of calories; 4) DAILY weighing on a giant doctor's scale (which turns into a daily reward after awhile); 5) primal fear facing the health problems my father had after getting away with nearly 60 years of overweight/obesity--diabetes and blindness. It took me forever to come up with a diet that satisfied my particular foibles, including hating to cook/prepare food, fussiness over stringy vegetables, and needing food that tasted just good enough but not too good. Did I mention that maintenance also includes a weekly cheat of a dessert (it's Ice Cream Stand season now). If you finally find a combination of healthy foods you can live with--and an occasional cheat followed by penance, it can become routine. Keep it up.
