@@BarkerVancity No, here in France inheritance taxes are horrible, most of the time sadly they can't even pay it and can't inherit the familial chateau. A lot end up abandoned because of that, if not they would have sold it but they might not have found anyone willing to bought such a place at the time.

Jeremy - @ 18:09, you were remarking on the bedroom bookcase not having an actual keyhole in the left-hand door. If you look at the right-hand door, you will see an inset box lock mounted into the door. This style of furniture will have deadbolts on the inside of the left-hand door [often top and bottom] and then the right-hand door will have the locking mechanism. Even for the wealthy, this was a cost saving measure, so you only needed one lock instead of two. You'll frequently see these types of deadbolts on French-style double patio doors and only one locking door.
I just wanted to say that the production quality on your channel is insane. You really managed to capture the beauty and sort of tell it's story just by showing it to us.
The rugs alone are worth thousands, not to mention all that incredible furniture! OMG! And the stained glass!! Hard to believe no one has pillaged this place by now! SOOO cool!

8:30 it's a testament written in old French. To make it short, the guy was named Claude Maulnori was Lord D'Aubigny and King's Consellor, he ordered masses to be done for his death, and the death of his father and mother (probably living when he died) and also for his spouse.
I have seen this explored several times, but I do have to say I really enjoyed yours. I love the way you pay attention to detail, and you work at the history of the places you explore. It was not uncommon for castles or big manners to have their own chapel, and sometimes their own Minister or priest. I’m not sure if that was because of travel, or if the nobles actually had others from their community, come to worship. You were the first person I’ve had mention that there might be a fountain that would’ve been in the front, and that makes a whole Lotta sense, the checkered floor as opposed to the wood floor marks the service areas compared to the family living areas. This place is almost too clean to have been abandoned in early 2000s. It is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing such a magnificent castle with us.
It’s been cleaned up… I’ve seen it with Bros of Decay, Abandoned world explorer and Explomo… as far back as 3 years ago… look it up and you’ll see what I mean… it’s always interesting to see these places from the perspective of different explorers
I think this particular castle may have a semi-caretaker...it's probably being looked after every so often. Might be why people were showing up toward the end of the tour.
The room with the sewing machines and books is probably where the servants made clothes for the Family and staff, curtains, upholstery etc. And the desk plus books were probably where either the Housekeeper or Major Domo kept the financial books for the Family, keeping a track on household expenditure and records of things like purchases, repairs and maintenance.
@@suzyevans244 Susie is absolutely right, remember that people lived there before electricy, central heating, running water etc - all these were added much later. For such a large house (because it was a family house) there was so much to do, and everything and everybody needed clothes and all the „fabric” stuff. BTW check potty (chamber pot) next to almost every bed that was used. Amazing to see that - real life not so long ago…
Castles are normally only abandoned due to the upkeep and maintenance. Castles are also very hard to modernize or keep warm... Nonetheless, this place is beyond beautiful

Stuff like this is really cool to explore but sad that things so beautiful are left to fade away with time. Wish humanity had more appreciation for our past and would come together to restore and appreciate things like this
You are assuming that financial hardship equates to less appreciation for history and beauty. That is quite a leap, obviously. It is entirely possible (likely even), that the former owners loved their home enormously and took great pride in everything about the home; but the primary breadwinner died unexpectedly and the remaining family members were unable to pay the maintenance bills.
@@mikejewpants4099 Can appreciate your argument, and agree...you just misunderstood mine. Wasn't referring to the family who lived in it, or the extended family of those people. Was referring to all the people who have money that decide to build new homes and lavish mansions instead of restoring what has already been built. My criticism was that rich people always want something new instead of restoring things that a previous generation worked to build/maintain over long periods of time. A lot of these old mansions look way better than most things we build nowadays...so why not invest in the past and love something other people may have spent decades if not centuries loving before your time. Do you agree?

Knowing what it takes to accomplish some of these architectural masterpieces makes me appreciate them that much more. My dream is in a handful of years to buy one and spend my twilight years having it restored. Seems like the appreciation for the past and their accomplishments is lacking in my generation and gen z. Know there are people who do appreciate it, and think it's awesome you know so many people who do...wish more felt the same way. Surprisingly a lot of these properties are fairly inexpensive, it's just the money it would cost to bring them back to life. I personally think it's worth it though
The hidden “library” was probably a classroom. Young girls were often taught sewing, explains why there are multiple machines. Would explain all of the pianos throughout, too, since girls were usually taught “softer” things like music and arts and were expected to entertain.
❤❤❤❤❤ I literally am crying right now. The beauty of every room just transports me to when the family lived there. This is by far my ultimate favorite home out of them hundreds that I have seen. Its just so sad that this opulent home has no family to enjoy it and to hear the laughter of children. Mother earth wants this home back. I wish I had them money because I would buy it.

Seeing all the black mold throughout the home, it's likely the cost of remediation was too much to bear and the family chose to move on. Also explains why some things were left behind, so as not to contaminate the new home. Just a theory:) Great find, guys, and thanks for the very respectful tour!
ALL castles suffer from mold in France. I know first hand! When you buy a place in France, there is no mold inspection, and no obligation to disclose the mold. I hope Jeremy is doing mold treatment because his health is going to plummet after such exposure.

I thought the castle was beautiful in its own right. I did feel sadness as you all walked through it, I believe you had made a comment during your walk around that it was like the castle was just waiting for the family to come back and reclaim it, and I totally agree. If I was the previous owner of this house, I definitely will say thank you Jeremy for exploring my house. It might be nothing for some people, but this simple video tells the owners stories to anyone watching it. Sometimes there is no need for words just appreciating what the owners had before is enough to remember them. After all at the end of our time memories is the real treasure in life for it's the last thing we will see.

Hey Jeremy, another WOW video. You are truly "Attention to detail" which all of your viewers just love. This video was exceptional, and really enjoyed each room, especially the last room with the Singers. I have my grandmothers singer, and it still works, but have never used it. Would hate to brake the peddle, probably never replace it. Even still has the oil can and instruction booklet. Its part of my house and my grandmothers past. Always a conversation with friends. I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I am loving how you take time to show everything and try to tell the story of the past inhabitants. I would love to see you add an actual historian or student of foreign culture to your group. They could help explain the usage/purpose of the rooms, how the inhabitants might have lived, etc. I do know in the past and even today, the more affluent class had separate rooms for the husband and wife. I think that is what we were seeing in the red bedroom (masculine) and the blue (feminine) bedroom right next to it. This also explains why we see only ladies clothing and accessories in one room and men's in another. Plus, the servants' quarters were decorated according to their station in the home. The more elaborate was the quarters of the long term/more valued servants. Rooms with multiple beds were for lesser maids and wait staff that lived inside the home. Just FYI. You do a great job and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Jeremy, hello my name is Natalie I just found and started following your videos about a week ago. This is probably the fourth of fifth video I’ve watch and they make me cry every time. It’s just so emotional seeing their belongings left behind and the sadness that must have facilitated everything leading up to the “tragedy”. I also wanted to ask you if any of these abandoned properties come up for sale?
This is by far my favorite explore. The items left behind are amazing to behold but certainly leaves a sadness in your heart as to why they are all still there. It is an Absolutely stunning castle! Even if it was empty I would enjoy it because of the architecture, color schemes and of course the WALLPAPER, oh my goodness I love wallpaper. The colors and patterns were brilliant and lovely. In any explore I always admire the wallpaper. Since I was a little child it was my fave, I was so heartbroken when my family moved and my new bedroom had this amazing floral design with a mellow background but vivacious foreground and it was covered with wood paneling due to house remodel and for the time that was the newest style...ugh I've despised that stuff ever since. Thank you for doing these videos, I just can't get enough of them, it's so great you put yourself out there to make them and especially with possible danger, we don't usually think of the those things that could actually happen like looters, or caved in roofs/floors etc. so please take care and you should wear a mask to protect from the poor air quality like mold.
I just stumbled upon your UA-cam site. Question: once you walk thru these amazing places, do you report the location to anyone? To explain, like anyone that has an interest in purchasing the properties? Do you research into the Families that lived in these now abandoned properties? It is just so daunting to believe a person/family/caretaker could just walk away. You are stunningly obedient to not touch/harm any items no matter how amazing they are. I am hooked!
I love the woodwork on all of the furniture, it is all so amazing. The craftsmanship on all of the pieces is magnificent. The library was a fascinating room included oddly with singer sewing machines. I would love to have one of those antique sewing machines. I am not able to do these kinds of tours myself. But I would like to thank you guys for sharing your adventures with me and the world. You have no idea how much enjoyment I get from your videos. You are all a great team together. Thank you for showing us this beautiful castle and that you show respect for the place and the history. Yes, the Blue wallpaper had faded, but not the gold that was handpainted with the French lily! Really cool! The chapel was glorious! Often major castles actually have their own little chapels (Check UK and Scotland) because if someone needed to get married fast or have a funeral, it was convenient to have a chapel. Gorgeous castle! Really love listen to your calm voice too! I hope they didn't take anything, those that came after you....
French lily? It is also the symbol of the Medici family and I was wondering if they ever had anything to do with this château or adopted the symbol from the french, or viceversa. I only know this because I've been to Florence, I obviously don't know or forgotten the history behind it.
OMG! The history that's in every shot is absolutely amazing! This was my favorite by far. I imagine the stories and events that have transpired there over the centuries. So incredibly cool! Thanx! OH MAN, I am totally amazed by this property. The 1st room with the rounded door is spectacular, the chapel is amazing with a confessional booth and that amazing ceiling. that kitchen is pretty cool. the pieces in this place are beautiful from the furniture to the sculpted woodwork pieces. This adventure is amazing, one of my favorites 'thank you'
One may wonder why these owners abandoned their castles like that. In France, there are many abandoned castles for sale and cheap. It might be interesting to investigate and understand their stories.

8:30 it's a testament written in old French. To make it short, the guy was named Claude Maulnori was Lord D'Aubigny and King's Consellor, he ordered masses to be done for his death, and the death of his father and mother (probably living when he died) and also for his spouse.
I have seen this explored several times, but I do have to say I really enjoyed yours. I love the way you pay attention to detail, and you work at the history of the places you explore. It was not uncommon for castles or big manners to have their own chapel, and sometimes their own Minister or priest. I’m not sure if that was because of travel, or if the nobles actually had others from their community, come to worship. You were the first person I’ve had mention that there might be a fountain that would’ve been in the front, and that makes a whole Lotta sense, the checkered floor as opposed to the wood floor marks the service areas compared to the family living areas. Such a cool place. I hope they do get to save it! Thank you for the wonderful explore, take care!

It’s been cleaned up… I’ve seen it with Bros of Decay, Abandoned world explorer and Explomo… as far back as 3 years ago… look it up and you’ll see what I mean… it’s always interesting to see these places from the perspective of different explorers

I think this particular castle may have a semi-caretaker...it's probably being looked after every so often. Might be why people were showing up toward the end of the tour.
Certainly cleaned up. Example is when A.W.E visited the empty window sill in the area by the child's bedroom
had a large collection of Furby toys.
The room with the sewing machines and books is probably where the servants made clothes for the Family and staff, curtains, upholstery etc. And the desk plus books were probably where either the Housekeeper or Major Domo kept the financial books for the Family, keeping a track on household expenditure and records of things like purchases, repairs and maintenance.

@@suzyevans244 Susie is absolutely right, remember that people lived there before electricy, central heating, running water etc - all these were added much later. For such a large house (because it was a family house) there was so much to do, and everything and everybody needed clothes and all the „fabric” stuff. BTW check potty (chamber pot) next to almost every bed that was used. Amazing to see that - real life not so long ago…
Castles are normally only abandoned due to the upkeep and maintenance. Castles are also very hard to modernize or keep warm... Nonetheless, this place is beyond beautiful
Most are actually manor houses. Either there was no will, no living heirs, or no kin chose not to claim the property rights and responsibilities.
That sounds like a bargain to me at the time of negotiation!!

Yes, I would love to see restoration to places and things of this sort. There is so much goodness in thing of this nature.
You are assuming that financial hardship equates to less appreciation for history and beauty. That is quite a leap, obviously. It is entirely possible (likely even), that the former owners loved their home enormously and took great pride in everything about the home; but the primary breadwinner died unexpectedly and the remaining family members were unable to pay the maintenance bills.
@@mikejewpants4099 Can appreciate your argument, and agree...you just misunderstood mine. Wasn't referring to the family who lived in it, or the extended family of those people. Was referring to all the people who have money that decide to build new homes and lavish mansions instead of restoring what has already been built. My criticism was that rich people always want something new instead of restoring things that a previous generation worked to build/maintain over long periods of time. A lot of these old mansions look way better than most things we build nowadays...so why not invest in the past and love something other people may have spent decades if not centuries loving before your time. Do you agree?

Knowing what it takes to accomplish some of these architectural masterpieces makes me appreciate them that much more. My dream is in a handful of years to buy one and spend my twilight years having it restored. Seems like the appreciation for the past and their accomplishments is lacking in my generation and gen z. Know there are people who do appreciate it, and think it's awesome you know so many people who do...wish more felt the same way. Surprisingly a lot of these properties are fairly inexpensive, it's just the money it would cost to bring them back to life. I personally think it's worth it though
The hidden “library” was probably a classroom. Young girls were often taught sewing, explains why there are multiple machines. Would explain all of the pianos throughout, too, since girls were usually taught “softer” things like music and arts and were expected to entertain.
❤❤❤❤❤ I literally am crying right now. The beauty of every room just transports me to when the family lived there. This is by far my ultimate favorite home out of them hundreds that I have seen. Its just so sad that this opulent home has no family to enjoy it and to hear the laughter of children. Mother earth wants this home back. I wish I had them money because I would buy it.
What a spectacular exploration. Out of all the explorer channels I watch, I enjoy yours the most. You take the time and actually show things slowly instead of panning so quickly past things. Seeing all the black mold throughout the home, it's likely the cost of remediation was too much to bear and the family chose to move on. Also explains why some things were left behind, so as not to contaminate the new home. Just a theory:) Great find, guys, and thanks for the very respectful tour!
ALL castles suffer from mold in France. I know first hand! When you buy a place in France, there is no mold inspection, and no obligation to disclose the mold. I hope Jeremy is doing mold treatment because his health is going to plummet after such exposure.

I've seen a lot of people buying and renovating castles in France. It's a dream for me to own one. I have always been fascinated with the architecture, and appreciated the history behind these castles. It's like reliving the past. Just amazing.
I thought the castle was beautiful in its own right. I did feel sadness as you all walked through it, I believe you had made a comment during your walk around that it was like the castle was just waiting for the family to come back and reclaim it, and I totally agree. So yea, I felt sad for the beautiful abandoned castle. Thank you for sharing it with us.

If I was the previous owner of this house, I definitely will say thank you Jeremy for exploring my house. It might be nothing for some people, but this simple video tells the owners stories to anyone watching it. Sometimes there is no need for words just appreciating what the owners had before is enough to remember them. After all at the end of our time memories is the real treasure in life for it's the last thing we will see.

The common fabric pattern is called "toile de jouy" witch means something like fabric from Jouy. That is a town in france.

What a beautiful place. A bit surreal with everything still in place. Isn’t it a shame that all the timeless pieces slowly disappear in ruin. I don’t like the thought of someone looting it either. But it would be nice if it could be recovered and put in homes, once again to be loved.

I’ve seen hundreds of abandoned château’s and castles via video, this by far is my absolute favorite! 💯🥰The attention to details! The bones of the structure, absolutely stunning!!!! The balcony that overlooks the foyer, divine! The chapel, the furniture, truly everything is just absolutely stunning! Such a shame it’s not lived in. I would love to move in and restore it~ one can dream 😉😁

Hey Jeremy, another WOW video. You are truly "Attention to detail" which all of your viewers just love. This video was exceptional, and really enjoyed each room, especially the last room with the Singers. I have my grandmothers singer, and it still works, but have never used it. Would hate to brake the peddle, probably never replace it. Even still has the oil can and instruction booklet. Its part of my house and my grandmothers past. Always a conversation with friends. I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I am loving how you take time to show everything and try to tell the story of the past inhabitants. I would love to see you add an actual historian or student of foreign culture to your group. They could help explain the usage/purpose of the rooms, how the inhabitants might have lived, etc. I do know in the past and even today, the more affluent class had separate rooms for the husband and wife. I think that is what we were seeing in the red bedroom (masculine) and the blue (feminine) bedroom right next to it. This also explains why we see only ladies clothing and accessories in one room and men's in another. Plus, the servants' quarters were decorated according to their station in the home. The more elaborate was the quarters of the long term/more valued servants. Rooms with multiple beds were for lesser maids and wait staff that lived inside the home. Just FYI. You do a great job and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
New viewer here, love your approach to these homes turned abandoned monuments of history and past lives, also loved when you said your biggest fear while exploring, other people. I don't get to explore much where I live but the biggest fear here for sure is other people.
pretty well preserved for an abonadonned chateau. Would not be surprise that it is on market now but of course will include millions in renovations.

WOW, this place was absolutely gorgeous... the furniture threw out the castle (all the wood work just stunning) even now after the place been abandoned for quite some time it still mind-blowing 🤯👍I checker floors, the rounded doors and the marble fireplaces were absolutely my favorites 👌 The bat scared that life out of me.. 🥴😵😅👍 Lol..

Hey salut , tu as eu de la chance ce château n'est plus abandonné depuis plus d'un an presque deux en fait. je sais où il se trouve. il est en cours de restauration. beaucoup d'objets ont déjà été retiré par une association et le maire du village voisin. en France on le connait sous le nom de château secret même si depuis il n'est plus si secret. Jeremy, hello my name is Natalie I just found and started following your videos about a week ago. This is probably the fourth of fifth video I’ve watch and they make me cry every time. It’s just so emotional seeing their belongings left behind and the sadness that must have facilitated everything leading up to the “tragedy”. I also wanted to ask you if any of these abandoned properties come up for sale?
This is by far my favorite explore. The items left behind are amazing to behold but certainly leaves a sadness in your heart as to why they are all still there. It is an Absolutely stunning castle! Even if it was empty I would enjoy it because of the architecture, color schemes and of course the WALLPAPER, oh my goodness I love wallpaper. The colors and patterns were brilliant and lovely. In any explore I always admire the wallpaper. Since I was a little child it was my fave, I was so heartbroken when my family moved and my new bedroom had this amazing floral design with a mellow background but vivacious foreground and it was covered with wood paneling due to house remodel and for the time that was the newest style...ugh I've despised that stuff ever since. Thank you for doing these videos, I just can't get enough of them, it's so great you put yourself out there to make them and especially with possible danger, we don't usually think of the those things that could actually happen like looters, or caved in roofs/floors etc. so please take care and you should wear a mask to protect from the poor air quality like mold.
I just stumbled upon your UA-cam site. Question: once you walk thru these amazing places, do you report the location to anyone? To explain, like anyone that has an interest in purchasing the properties? Do you research into the Families that lived in these now abandoned properties? It is just so daunting to believe a person/family/caretaker could just walk away. You are stunningly obedient to not touch/harm any items no matter how amazing they are. I am hooked!

I love the woodwork on all of the furniture, it is all so amazing. The craftsmanship on all of the pieces is magnificent.
The library was a fascinating room included oddly with singer sewing machines. I would love to have one of those antique sewing machines.

The chapel was glorious! Often major castles actually have their own little chapels (Check UK and Scotland) because if someone needed to get married fast or have a funeral, it was convenient to have a chapel.

French lily? It is also the symbol of the Medici family and I was wondering if they ever had anything to do with this château or adopted the symbol from the french, or viceversa. I only know this because I've been to Florence, I obviously don't know or forgotten the history behind it.

OH MAN, I am totally amazed by this property. The 1st room with the rounded door is spectacular, the chapel is amazing with a confessional booth and that amazing ceiling. that kitchen is pretty cool. the pieces in this place are beautiful from the furniture to the sculpted woodwork pieces. This adventure is amazing, one of my favorites 'thank you'
One may wonder why these owners abandoned their castles like that. In France, there are many abandoned castles for sale and cheap. It might be interesting to investigate and understand their stories.
