I've always thought of stagg as a cheap/beginner brand but they actually sound pretty good not gonna lie

Well, one thing i heard from several drummers is that they crack easily. But i have 2 old Staggs, a B20 Ride from a discontinued series i bought in 2007 and an SH splash, And they're still in perfect condition.

this is the best demo ever. just hitting the cymbals alone won't help us drummers decide. One has to set it up on a drums and play a beat with different feels and fills. This is awesome. Keep em comin.

The SH sounded the best for me, especially those hats are awesome. I might buy a pair of them.

DH are VERY cool chinas, SH is not bad hats (especially for this price), for crashes.. go to Paiste)

hi James, i like the vid much, it really shows the differences... I use a mixed set of Myra, Furia, DH, Black Metal, and I love their sound! \m/

Awesome Demo of these 3 line by Stagg. Makes it easier to understand what the differences are between them all. Nicely Done!

    Hello,
I guess too many people are blinded by marketing.
Stagg cymbals are very good (I've owned a Myra Rock Crash 18") though not my favourite brand.
With the same amount of money you can get a better quality product in my opinion.
I find that Crash sounded very good, even played at low volumes it responded quite well !
SH serie tends to be my favourite and it's the cheaper one ! I love those hats, I find them to be very smooth although I'd prefer 13"s.
If it's good to your ear, then it's something you can play. Simple as that!
You have to be one happy man with that Sonor kit.
    Cheers !
    Alex

+burns01 tell us, then. which company offers good cymbals for less than 150$?
i was looking for a good china. I ended purchasing a DH 17" for less than 150$. none of the companies out there offered me so.

Hey James, I've decided to get some SH series cymbals because I totally digging the sounds. But before I do it, may I know whether the old and new version(different logo) has a significant sound quality differences?

    • @JordanMottram
      @JordanMottram 8 років тому +7

+Bryan Yeap Hey, I have a few Stagg cymbals, with and without the new print.
As far as I know it doesn't change the sound, all it is, is a stamp on the cymbal, so you don't have nothing to worry about:)

    • @James-Chapman-Drums
      @James-Chapman-Drums  8 місяців тому

It can, but don’t use a 16 when an 18 is needed. That’s the biggest cause of cymbal breakage. Correct technique and use and it should last fine

Are the DH usually more expensive then SH? Is it worth the extra bucks? I saw a set from germany with SH for 268£ and the DH with same size cymbals for 411£ Both kits are R20 C16 H14

Dh hats are quite cutting... Cant understand how your ear works, since u described SH as Dark and DH as Bright; quite the contrary instead (as you would expect from a Dual Hammered compared to a Single Hammered)

    • @James-Chapman-Drums
      @James-Chapman-Drums  7 років тому +3

Hammering is not the only part of a cymbal's design which affect the tone. The DH cymbals are in a brilliant finish. The SH are in a regular finish. The bell profile is also different, as is the thickness of the cymbal. SH and DH are both fairly bright, but the SH cymbals are darker between the two. Feel free to listen to the playing example in the video to hear the tones.

@@James-Chapman-Drums Totally agree, I´ve just bought a 16" Dh Medium Crash and it´s impressively bright. I love it sound, though it has too much sustain for me, but it´s ok. A great choice compairing cost-benefits and what you can afford with the same price in other "big" brands..

HELLO GUYS AND GIRLS, I HOPE SOME OF YOU AWESOME DRUMMERS CAN HELP ME, AND EVEN THE NOT SO AWESOME, BUT SUPER PERFECT DRUMMERS CAN HELP ME.
AND HOW ABOUT THE CRAPPY DRUMMERS LIKE ME? CAN YOU HELP AS WELL? HAHAHAHA.
I AM SO SORRY IF THIS GETS TO BE A LONG LETTER. I GET CARRIED AWAY ONCE IN A WHILE .LOL. I GET FIRED UP WHEN IT COMES TO DRUMS. THANKS FOR HOPEFULLY UNDERSTANDING.
COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME AND GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS ON THESE STAGG CYMBALS? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY OF YOUR HELP AND ADVICE. ALSO, HOW ARE THESE CYMBALS COMPARED TO ZILDJIAN, MEINLE, SABIAN, ETC? I PROMISE TO RESPECT YOUR ADVICE , AND I PRAY THAT OTHERS WILL DO THE SAME. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MYSELF, AND THEN YOU CAN SEE WHAT ADVICE I CAN USE ACCORDING TO WHAT CYMBALS I HAVE PLAYED, AND NOW USE. YOU MIGHT THINK I'M NUTS, LOL, BUT MOST DRUMMERS ARE, IN MY OPINION. HAHAHA. EVERYTIME I TALK DRUMS, I LOVE TALKING ABOUT WHAT GEAR PEOPLE USE, AND HOW THEY SET THEIR DRUMS UP, AND WHAT STYLES PEOPLE LIKE TO USE WHEN THEY CREATE THEIR DRUM SOUNDS.
THIS IS GLEN POLEN. I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE ROCKIN' YOUR BUTTS OFF. LOL. I ALSO REALLY HOPE THAT YOU FOLKS ARE USING GOOD CONTROL, AND HAVING PROPER TECHNIQUES. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR POSTURE IS CORRECT AND RIGHT ON TO PREVENT ACHES AND PAINS LATER IN LIFE. EVEN IF WE PLAY WITH PERFECTION, WE CAN STILL DEVELOP HEALTH ISSUES, SO THEIR ARE NO GUARANTEES, LIKE ANYTHING ELSE IN LIFE. I HATE WATCHING A DRUMMER PLAY WITH POOR CONTROL AND SEEING THEIR TECHNIQUES LACK QUALITY.
SOME DRUMMERS CAN FLY 500 MPH AROUND THEIR KITS, AND PLAY DBLE BASS PATTERNS FASTER THAN A BARRACUDA, BUT THEY HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THEY ARE PLAYING BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ MUSIC, DIDN'T LEARN THE BASICS, OR HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO HOLD AND GRIP THE STICKS PROPERLY.
I AM NOT TRYING TO INSULT ANYONE, I ONLY WANT TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GET THAT HELP NOW WHILE THEY CAN AND BEFORE ANY ISSUES OCCUR. US DRUMMERS CAN AND WILL HAVE HEALTH ISSUES LATER IN LIFE BECAUSE OF POOR POSTURE . I CARE ABOUT YOU . I WANT ALL OF US TO SUCCEED IN LIFE.
I HAVE BEEN DRUMMING FOR 46 YEARS. I USED TO TEACH DRUM LINES AT SEVERAL HIGH SCHOOLS FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS. THE SAME GOES FOR TEACHING PRIVATE LESSONS, AND I PLAYED IN MANY BANDS OVER THE SPAN OF 30 YEARS. I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT DRUMS EARLY IN LIFE, INCLUDING TAKING PRIVATE LESSONS, PRACTICING FOR AN HOUR EVERYDAY AFTER SCHOOL AND WATCHING AND LISTENING TO OTHER DRUMMERS. MY HIGH SCHOOL DRUM LINE INSTRUCTORS TAUGHT ME WELL. I LEARNED MORE ABOUT DISCIPLINE FROM THEM MORE THAN ANY ONE ELSE. THEY WERE THE BEST. THEY TAUGHT ME PROPER CONTROL AND HOW TO USE PROPER TECHNIQUES, BUT I AM ALWAYS STILL LEARNING AND PRACTICING.
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK FOR ANY HELP IF ANY ONE COULD SHARE THEIR OPINIONS WITH ME. . I WILL EXPLAIN WHAT CYMBALS I PLAYED, AND THEN STARTED COLLECTING AND WHAT I AM NOW COLLECTING AND PLAYING. BUT, I WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF THESE 'STAGG' CYMBALS? I KNOW WHAT CYMBALS THE BIG CYMBAL COMPANIES MAKE, AND WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE AND COST, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SMALLER COMPANIES THAT MAKE THE CHEAPER CYMBALS? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE AWESOME, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN DRUMMING FOR 45 YRS, AND STARTED WHEN I WAS 6, I STILL NEED ADVICE AND HELP.
THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP ANOTHER PERSON WITH THEIR IDEAS AND ADVICE..
I HAVE HEARD OF' STAGG' PRODUCTS BEFORE. I HAVE A FEW 'STAGG' COWBELLS THAT ARE COOL.
HERE ARE THE STYLES AND BRANDS OF CYMBALS THAT I USED TO PLAY, AND NOW COLLECT, AND THE BRAND AND STYLES THAT I NOW PLAY AND ALSO NOW COLLECT.
I HAD ALWAYS PLAYED 'ZILDJIAN' 'A' SERIES CYMBALS FROM THE 70'S THROUGH THE 90'S..
I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT TODAY I AM BROKE. LOL. HAHAHA. I BOUGHT A TON OF 'ZILDJIAN' CYMBALS OVER THE PAST 35 YEARS. I AM ALSO VERY PROUD TO HAVE A HUGE COLLECTION OF ALMOST EVERY TYPE OF 'A' ZILDJIAN CYMBAL FROM EACH 'A' SERIES 'ERA'. FROM THE CYMBAL HAVING NO LETTER 'A' ON IT, TO THE SMALL 'a', AND THEN THE LARGE LETTER 'A' PRINTED ON THE CYMBALS.
IT WAS SOMEWHERE TOWARDS THE END OF THE 90'S THAT I STARTED LEARNING ABOUT 'WUHAN' CHINA CYMBALS. I BOUGHT A FEW DIFFERENT CHINA SIZES, AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM. WHEN I LEARNED THAT 'WUHAN' MADE A WHOLE LINE OF OTHER CYMBALS, AND BECAUSE I LOVED THEIR CHINA'S MORE THAN MY 'ZILDJIANS,' AND SINCE THE PRICES WERE SO AWESOME, I IMMEDIATELY BOUGHT SEVERAL 'OLD TRADITIONAL' [ NOW DISCONTINUED] 'WUHAN CYMBALS . IN MY OPINION, WHEN I COMPARED THE WUHANS TO MY ZILDJIANS, I HAD TO PUT MY ZILDJIANS AWAY, AND STARTED COLLECTING THEM [ THE 'A' SEREIES]. I HAD STARTED BUYING EVERY 'OLD TRADITIONAL' WUHAN CYMBAL BACK IN THE DAYS. 'GUITAR CENTER' CALLED ME THE 'WUHAN GUY', HAHAHA. I USED TO CALL THEM EVERY OTHER DAY TO SEE WHAT THEY GOT IN, AND WHAT I COULD ORDER NEXT.
I LOVE WUHAN CYMBALS, AND YES, I LOVE THEIR PRICES. THEN, I LEARNED OF THE 'S SERIES' WUHAN CYMBALS [NOW DISCONTINUED].I BOUGHT AS MANY OF THOSE CYMBALS AS I COULD BUY. WHEN ALL OF THESE BECAME DISCONTINUED, I TOOK ALL OF THEM OFF OF MY DRUM SET SO THEY WOULDN'T GET RUINED, AND I BOUGHT THE 'NEW TRADITIONAL' WUHAN SERIES.
I HAD BOUGHT EVERY TYPE OF WUHAN CYMBAL [ ALL 3 STYLES] THAT I COULD GET MY HANDS ON, AND I AM STILL BUYING THEM TO THIS DAY, [ MOSTLY ON E BAY]. I DON'T THINK THAT I HAVE THEM ALL. [ESPECIALLY THE DISCONTINUED ONES], BUT I AM VERY CLOSE TO HAVING EVERY ONE. I HAVE DOUBLES AND MORE OF EVERY 'NEW TRADITIONAL' WUHAN CYMBAL LINE. I HAVE ABOUT 24 WUHAN' RIDES 'ALL TOGETHER, AND 9 HI HATS, ALL FROM THE DIFFERENT STYLES. YOU SHOULD SEE HOW MANY SPLASHES THAT I HAVE. ITS CRAZY. I SHOULD OPEN A DRUM STORE. MY CYMBALS ALSO LOOK AMAZING, AND SOUND FANTASTIC. HOWEVER, I HAVE MY FAVORITES, AND DON'T LIKE SOME OF THEM. I USE ALL 'NEW TRADITIONAL' CYMBALS ON 2 DRUM KITS, ALONG WITH SOME OF THE DISCONTINUED CYMBALS AND I HAVE A SECOND SET OF ALL 'NEW TRADITIONAL' WUHANS IN MY COLLECTION BAGS. - NEVER USED. BRAND NEW STILL , AFTER MANY YEARS.
I HAVE SEVERAL EXTRAS OF THE NEW CYMBALS. I HAVE ALMOST ALL THE CHINA'S ON BOTH SETS, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OF EVERY SPLASH FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT STYLES ON MY 2 KITS. I ALSO HAVE A SECOND SET OF EVERY 'WUHAN' CHINA CYMBAL IN MY COLLECTION. AGAIN, NEVER USED, AND BRAND NEW.
I AM NOW LOOKING TO GET ALL OF THE LINEAR CYMBALS [ 5 ENDS], AND ALL OF THE LINEAR SMASHER CRASHES [ THE STACKS]. OH, AND I NEED TO GET ALL OF THE LINEAR SMASH CYMBALS. [ THE CYMBALS WITH THE SWISS CHEESE WHOLES].LOL. MAY BE TO PLAY , OR JUST TO COLLECT. UNLESS, I BUY THEM ALL TO COLLECT, AND ONLY BUY THE ONES I LIKE TO PLAY.
WHEN I LISTENED TO SOME OF THESE 'STAGG' CRASH CYMBALS, I SORT OF LIKED THE 'ATTACK', [ I COULD HEAR 'HEAVINESS' IN ONE OF THE CRASHES]. I REALLY LIKED THE OVERALL SOUND, BUT I WASN'T CRAZY ABOUT THE 'SUSTAIN' AT THE END. .THE STAGG CRASHES THAT I HEARD SOUNDED A LITTLE LIKE 'WUHANS'. WOULD ANY ONE AGREE? WHAT DO YOU THINK? PLEASE HELP.
I WOULD LIKE TO START ANOTHER CYMBAL COLLECTION, BUT ONLY TO BUY AND USE CHEAP CYMBALS.
HOW ARE STAGG PRICES COMPARED TO 'ZILDJIAN' AND 'WUHAN' CYMBALS? ARE THEY THE SAME AS 'WUHAN' PRICES, OR IN BETWEEN THESE TWO CYMBALS?
ALSO, WHAT ABOUT THE 'DREAM' CYMBALS THAT ARE OUT TODAY? I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM.
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADDITIONAL HELP .
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP.
PLEASE BE WELL AND BE SAFE. HAPPY DRUMMING.
    PEACE,
    GLEN

Kombiice these three series are all fairly bright. If you have a look through my videos you'll see one I made comparing 21 different rides. Also a small "bitesize" demo of the new Genghis ride which is much warmer, darker and vintage sounding.
