Great video Mark, that was certainly a nice variety of fish! That was a really nice Pomp and the Sheepshead were nice as well! Please do a catch & cook with the Spanish Mackerel, I've never tried them so I'm kind of interested! Please take care and be safe! 🙏
In México, we use a treble hook on the shrimps to reduce the possibility to miss the fish and always hooked from the head to avoid reduce the natural movement of the shrimps. Sierras (Spanish Mackerel) and Pámpanos (Pompano) are delicious fishes! Congratulations!
How do you like those tires on the Kahuna Jr? I just got the Big Kahuna this year. Wish I could get those raked back rod holders for the side like the Jr., but I needed the size of Big Kahuna for two people.
I see in this video you use the spinning reel with the handle set on the right side. Most folks being right handed, I never could figure why manufacturers usually have the handle set to reel line in using the left hand on spinning reels, but have the handle set on the right side on bait casting reels. It feels awkward for me to reel in using my left hand. Not that big a deal, really, but I have to wonder if a lot of folks might be unaware that you can switch handle positions on a lot of spinning reels.Nice video. Wanna, wanna, wanna get down to the coast before too long!😂
What spike do you use? There seem to be pretty limited options online at least. I thought about getting a stainless steel ice pick but I'm afraid the handle won't be thick enough
Man I just started watching UA-camrs on Texas jettys and I bought fishing equipment to go after jacks. They look delicious but then I found out they were the carp of the sea. I'll be damned if throw a expensive lure to try to catch one.
I would never trust what others have to say. Most people regurgitate what they’ve read on the internet and have never even tasted one. But yet they will say it’s the best or worst fish in the water. We all have different tastes so best to find out for yourself.
@@MDLRFishing so true brother I guess if I ever catch one I'll try it. Thanks for the info. I'm planning a trip right after it clears up. Here in Austin it's been raining a lot.
That jetty has been super packed lately!
Truth
@@MDLRFishing especially on weekends! Everyone wants a jack and that cobia GG posted 😂😂😂

Thanks Christine! I’ll try and do one in the near future.
Wow, I was considering on heading that way tomorrow morning, but the weather forecast shows rain. Really enjoyed it.
We wanted to go too

Thanks brother!
@@MDLRFishing every time bro
U know brother time with the fam is always 💯 and Fishing oh yeah God bless 🙏
You got that right 👍
As I've said before, Freeport is my home town. I always used a live shrimp under a cork set up. Mackerel and jacks slammed it pretty good. Good video!
Thanks for watching 👍
A few marks made with a paint marker on the rod or rod handle with minimum keeper lengths for quick checking fish lengths works well
Nice video as always Mark, any video coming on the prep of the Spanish mack?
We just made taco’s. I’ll try to do one in the future.
Nicely done mark😊
Thanks 😁
SUPER nice catch! 😎👍🎣🪨🌊
Glad you enjoyed 👍
All in all, great video, 👍🏾
Thanks 👍
What jetty is this? Surf side or Galveston? Awesome video!
Surfside.

Love the performance so far.

Yes
Trout will be there soon and so will I. 😂

Good fishing

nicely done!
Thanks David, I was completely unprepared on this trip. I didn’t have the right setups for the job. Next time I’ll be better prepared.
Thanks guys !
Thank you too!
A two hook snap tackle. Single hook at the top, treble at the bottom. They’ll probs eat the middle but you tried..

How far back is the float from the hook?
12 feet
You do not know until you go🎣

Do you think we'll have much luck getting the Spanish mackerel from the galveston jetties?
I’m not sure. My guess would be yes.
What size spoon were you throwing?
2 oz for jacks, 1/2 oz and 1 oz for Spanish mackerel.
Wut size hook is that you using with live shrimp?
2/0 offset circle, and something that my son had in his bag.

What lb test leader do u use for spoons (lures) i used 80lb but i dunno any knots for it. so i js crimp it lol
40 lb is what I use, it’s the biggest that will function on my 4000 series spinning reel.
@@MDLRFishing ohh so u js tide the spoons to ur main line huh.
@@5.7hemi.713 no, I use a 40 lb leader.
