How to make Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream

- Growing up I love Orange Creamsicles! I would chase down the ice cream man to get an orange cream popsicle every time I had the chance. Unfortunately this flavor isn't all that common in ice cream shops so I wanted to recreate it to the best of my ability.
Rae and I had fun, as always, making this one. There actually takes a little more thought as you need to boil down the orange juice and let it cool. Why do you have to boil down the orange juice? Because orange juice, like most fruit, has so much water in it that you want to take as much of it out as possible to avoid ice crystals forming in the ice cream.
Anyway, if you try this at home please let us know! We'd love to hear how it turned out :-)
Recipe
1 cup whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup reduced orange juice
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Great video as always! I just made this myself a couple of weeks ago. I took Jeni's lemon recipe out of her book and modified it for orange. I boiled the orange juice as well and added the sugar with it to make a orange syrup. The first time I made it, I thought it needed more orange flavor. I added a tablespoon of orange extract to boost the flavor. Ice cream is so much fun! Thanks!

Looks pretty good but, a true orange creamsicle has ice cream on the inside and a bit harder orange ice cream on the outside as coating. Your method is worth trying.

My orange juice did not thicken
Try a bowl of vanilla ice cream topped with thawed cold orange juice consoentrate. It truly is a bowl full of creamsicles without the work involved.
