Everytime i hear this song i just have to stop and just listen, what a voice, we have been robbed too early of one of the best female voices of my time.
She was just fantastic. RIP Dolores 🙏🏻 you should check out Lilly MacPhee, she sounds very much like Dolores and does a great cover of this song + her own songs are great.
@@Dreyno you're right - I emigrated in the 80s to escape the shite - but holidays back home in the 90s, with the tiger up and running - that was pure craic - then 2008, and back to the shite
How she says "my mother would hold me", and "My father liked me". She got comfort and support from her mother, and she didnt get that from her dad which is often the case, but she knew that he liked her. He didnt hold her and comfort her, but maybe he laughed with her and told her jokes and always smiled when they talked and thats how she remembers him, as a man who she can honestly say liked her. Its really sweet.
Dolores's father had an accident and was paralyzed a few months after Dolores was born. Despite that, he was apparently a loving father, because she always declared her love for him. She dedicated several songs to him, such as "Why?", composed after the death of her father in 2012 and where she expresses everything she missed him ... ...
@@battybatshytcrazy4365 Respectfully it wasn't, her father was disabled and I very much doubt if he could have done very much, even if he had wanted to. As far as I know there was never even a rumour about problems with her father but as an adult she spoke about being abused by a neighbour during her childhood.
Another thing, this band, how did they make such simple 4 chord progressions sound so good? (D, Bm, F#m, G for those interested). And only Dolores could make a song about feeling homesick while on tour so affecting.
@@andrewboland1062 Played with a capo on the second fret those are indeed the chord shapes played. So you have it correct too except for the G which is a E minor.
Wonderful reaction. Greetings from Ireland. Bless Dolores. Talent. Such talent. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. Everyone can resonate on a level. R.I.P. Dolores. Thank you man
I really enjoy your video. You’re very insightful. Some people listen to music and they don’t seem to pay attention to the meaning and emotion within a song.
I am nothing compared to You, in terms of the struggles You have seen. And so can most anyone on this planet tell their story. But to be able to tell ones story, background and emotions through song, with such nerve and unbelieve talented vocal range - It is simply unique. It is my hope that God in his wisdom, will remember those who contributed in an extraordinary way, with such unique talent like Doloris, that we in his wisdom will not be depraved of such a talent in the promised land to come. Until then - We miss you Doloris!
ALX your reaction was on point. I loved this song too. This is the time to hold family, friends, everyone close. Who wrote this song? How did Delores meet her end?
Dolores was recovering from a psychotic break when she finally got diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder. She was doing well with the correct medication but still had a ways to go it seems. She got very drunk one night and drowned in her bath. Although, by the evidence released to the public from that night, she was having a blast at the time. I hope so.
I always thought the words were "where's when I was young and we didn't give a damn" That's how we talk it's like saying but when I was young we didn't give a damn it's Irish slang.
It is. It is: Unhappiness: “Where’s when I was young and we didn’t give a damn?” It doesn’t make sense otherwise. UA-cam subtitles often make simple mistakes like this.
Another excellent Irish group is U2. Listen to "Where The Streets Have No Name" streets were named according to your religion. They wrote about wishing it didn't matter.
I always wondered about this song bc it seems like it could have different meanings. Like: "my father...he liked me...oh he liked me...does anyone care..." Like that could mean something good or maybe something sinister? This song is a tribute to her family and the sadness in it is a kind of nostalgia. Or maybe it expresses a sorrow about love lost with family.
Unhappiness, Where’s when I was young and we didn’t give a damn. She’s comparing life as an adult to a childhood, (where’s means where as dunno why it says was not where’s)
The lyrics are wrong, it's "Unhappiness, where's when I was young..." She's singing from a place of sadness, remembering the better times of her youth. Never trust lyric videos.
No, it was a neighbor who was a friend of the family. Dolores's father was disabled a few months after she was born ... Even Dolores herself declared in an interview that she saw her abuser again during her father's funeral, and that devastated her ...
'unhappiness, where's [whereas] when I was young, we didn't give a damn ...'

One of Ireland’s iconic Bands, loved them! RIP Dolores 💐❤️🙏
I remember back in the early 90's how rough Ireland was. As you can see in the video. Oh my how times have changed 🇮🇪☘️
Ah, it wasn’t that bad. The 80s were shite though.

Beautiful honest reaction man. Enjoyed it as much as the song! Keep it up :)
Tellement d'émotions dans cette chanson
25 ans que je l'écoute et toujours les larmes aux yeux

So simple yet so full of meaning.

The Cranberries were around when I was in Jr high and you nailed exactly what this was about. New subbie. Rip Dolores O’Riordan
Thank you for the sub and I’m glad I didn’t get it wrong 😂
Delores O'Riordan was a unique gem of a singer/songwriter, and every Cranberry song is a pleasure to hear!
I love dolores
The cranberries is the BEST 💕

Dreams is another awesome song. Also recommend Miss You When You Are Gone highly--Pure vocal virtuosity by Dolores
Also, true happiness is found through service to others. As a kid, you're self centered. you really find meaning when you have others to care for

Dolores writed all songs, some song was writed with Noel Hogan but 90% of lyrics were writed totally by Dolores.
Sorry for my english.

I'm fairly sure "he liked me" refers to his encouragement of her early musical efforts. Dolores had a close relationship with her father.
Subscribing just based on the fact that you would react to this type of song in the first place.

Kind of makes you want to go to Ireland doesn't it?

React to Dolores O’Riordan - Black Widow
