Spot on. Yeah the lyrics and indeed about that bittersweetness about growing and becoming famous and away from her family but reminiscing about her childhood and parents.
I saw them live in MTV unplugged and when they played Ode to my family me and other people cried like babies because it was really emotinal and beautiful.
This is by far my favorite Cranberries song - Dolores, your voice captures my soul - RIP sweet angel. FYI - I am an old school thrash metal guy - but Dolores...
The Cranberries music is like being privy to Dolores' diary. She had a lot of trouble singing this live after the death of her father. Had to get the audience to sing the "my father" part sometimes. You can literally follow Dolores' life from the first album to the last (and her two solo albums). The last album released after her death is a hard listen hearing what she was going through. I love how Irish the band are. Noel (guitarist) plays and produces such an Irish feel.
The Cranberries songs "Salvation", "Linger", "Dreams" are others to check out. Dolores was Incredible!!! Her voice was so Awesomely Distinct!! RIP Dolores!! Never forgotten!
MY favourite "The Cranberries" songs are the following: Dreams, Linger, Ode to My Family, I Can't Be With You, When You're Gone and Free to Decide. Your reviews are fascinating to watch. It is so fun for old farts like me to watch you youngsters enjoy the songs of my youth. Keep it up! You are wonderful!
I love this song, it describes so much how I felt as a child, and even as a young adult... "does anyone care"... I used to play the first two Cranberries CD's (cassette tapes actually I think Lol ) constantly... there is just something about this band, I love them.
I feel a tingle up the back of my neck whenever I hear this song. This album was the musical centerpiece of our household back when we were students, and every track was thrashed repeatedly day and night. Great memories of magical times and the nostalgia of the song is now heightened by the years that have passed since this song first captivated us all. I admit to shedding a tear the day Dolores died.
I love this song. I think it's my favorite of theirs. It's lyrically simple but that makes it more poignant to me. It really moves me emotionally. And now that I've finally been to Ireland, the pub scenes make the video even more affecting. I never had any idea how musical Irish culture is. I've only ever experienced anything similar in New Orleans, but New Orleans clubs are more entertainment based, whereas in Irish pubs, the amazing music is an accompaniment to conversation.
It's normal for most people to sound American when they're singing (they're not putting on an American accent) it's just a natural thing that happens when singing, syllables are lengthened, air flow is increased, articulation is less precise. Thus we get a more generic, neutralised accent that happens to share features with American varieties of English. It's rare for people to actually hear a persons real accent when they sing. Another reason why Dolores was so special.
If you want more of her vocals, react to "Ridiculous thoughts" by The Cranberries - especially the beginning and the end of this song are spectacular! :)
The cranberries infuse traditional Irish inflections into their vocals. They are very the influenced by a type of Traditional music called Sean -Nós. You’ll hear it in a lot of Irish music that might be called rock, pop or Celtic Pop. Since you’ve listen to Zombie and Linger you know what those inflections are it’s almost like a cry. Sinead O’Connor or The Corrs are influenced by traditional Irish singing. Most Irish bands use their Irish accent when they’re singing. Back in the day most pop bands try to sing with an American accent. Dolores O’Riordan is just an amazing vocalist she is so missed. Sean- nós was originally sung in Irish. But the Irish adapted to the colonizer language of English. But most of these bands include Irish language songs
Yeah they’re great too. I wonder if reactors are getting copyright strikes reacting to the Sundays, because I can’t imagine they’re not getting requested.
For something deeper cut, I definitely recommend a reaction to the song Away. It was the b-side to Zombie. An absolutely gorgeous and emotional track. Really impactful.
Realize most bands sing in an American accent because they wanted to be able to capture the American market. The record companies almost always insisted on it
Yeah, the last couple generations only think of Ireland after their economy took off in the mid 90’s. Before that it was a pretty devastated place. Add in all the years of IRA & UDF bombings/fighting. It was bleak.
I stuck with this tepid reaction until the ad interruption at 7:14. The guy in the middle is the only one who has an appreciation and knowledge of music.
I feel like out of the three on the panel, the person on the right of the screen connected most with the song, the guy on the left the least and the dude in the middle, in between.
On the topic of foreign singers retaining their accents, I'd like to throw out David Bowie. You guys probably know a dozen songs each whether you can name them or not, but I'd like to recommend one you're less likely to know: Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud. It's very English. ua-cam.com/video/kSDm7jcsZlM/v-deo.html
If you want to hear Dolores let loose you should try the song '21 from the same album, her vox at the end are unreal, never heard anything like it. Maybe the live version of 'Promises
The song is beautiful, but it is a song about incest that occured when she was a child. during a time that it was more a hidden acceptance. The therapy was getting it off her chest letting her parents know how it affected her through her song. Lyrics posted does not exactly match all the words she was really saying. My father, my father he liked me and he lied me is the true words, but posted he liked me twice in a row. Her unhappiness was when she was young and knowone cared about what happened behind closed doors. The game her father played with her and he took her and the many others like her that it happened to as well. Many will never know the real meaning, but the message was sent and received by those involved and some affected by the same circumstances.
Dolores' father is not guilty of what happened to her. I read somewhere that her parents worked outside of town and they had some family friend "take care of the kids", that's who hurt her. She had stated that she was scared to go to her father's funeral because she knew that that person would be there and try to talk to her.
Hi guys can you react to Zombi (cover) by Bad Wolves , delores was due to do a duet with them on stage but she sadly died so they did the song and changed some lyrics for HER
In my opinion ode to my family is their most beautiful
Linger and Ode to my family are incredible
and Dying In The Sun. These are tearjerkers!
No need to argue is my personal favorite but I could listen to Delores sign anything.
@@stuartleerichardjohnson8189 I respect all tastes, but No Need To Argue is of the few songs of The Cranberries that I don't like
Same here
90's popular music was on another level. Beautiful song highlighted by an amazing video.

Rest in peace deloures , the queen of limerick. Voice of an Angel.
Dolores has the voice of an angel.
R.i.p
When I lived in Michigan with my spouse I used to listen to this song when I was home sick. It just sounds like and feels like home.
I heard this album so many times. ❤️👍. Thanks for your reaction

This is their most beautiful and sad song. Her voice just carries you away. This song is a classic that never leaves you.
Her voice is very emotional...
Check out her singing Little Drummer Boy at the Vatican..

Thanks for the reaction! Dolores' last name is pronounced O-rear-den 😃
My daughter Dolores loves this song
This is a powerful song..........................................................it carries a lotta water.
You can tell she's Irish ....AND SHE'S UNIQUE!!
I wish she was still in the world.

Thank you for explaining the concept of singing, I cannot believe they think that.
Loved this song and reaction! Thanks for another great one. I really am a fan of you guys. I would just like to see more of you!

Yep O'Riordan is pronounced like O'Rearden
Would love to hear a reaction to the title track of this album. No need to argue is such an emotional tune
the cranberries 🤘🤘🤘
Dolores is forever queen. She always wore it on her shoulder.
RIP Dolores
The Cranberries - So Cold In Ireland is absolutely brilliant - I HIGHLY recommend that song or Dreams ;)

Love The Cranberries and Delores is deeply missed. Another great band from this era is The Sundays, had a similar sound.
Yeah they’re great too. I wonder if reactors are getting copyright strikes reacting to the Sundays, because I can’t imagine they’re not getting requested.

Listen to ELBOW. You will hear the accent. Excellent!
For something deeper cut, I definitely recommend a reaction to the song Away. It was the b-side to Zombie. An absolutely gorgeous and emotional track. Really impactful.

I couldn’t love a band, a person, or any lyrics more than them 🥰❤️🙌
This song is breaking my heart so much
Lyrics is about Irish poverty and abandonment in Ireland there were a lot of homelessness and stray children back then
Yeah, the last couple generations only think of Ireland after their economy took off in the mid 90’s. Before that it was a pretty devastated place. Add in all the years of IRA & UDF bombings/fighting. It was bleak.

you have to check Ridiculous thoughts and Dreams , her vocal in those songs are phenomenal , she Ate
It's tough being a fan of high art.

I love Cranberries, but if you have to go "Irish" with the music, better listen to The Corrs, that's Irish Irish.
A lot of their music is pop but they have a lot of nice traditional Irish music too. Home is their best album for traditional music.

Can we have onne video where we respect the cranberries and Dolores without "Hurr durrr Bad Wolves!!!"
'America, the real world' These lads couldn't be more culturally insular.
We meant being out on your own, by yourself. Those two were not connected. We have quickly found out that wording can be easily misconstrued.
Good god people. Let the song play out first.
This is a reaction channel, not a stereo system. You can listen on your own time without interruption.
What took you so long. This is an album not a single
Juxtapose a great effort with 3 dudes in t shirts with writing on it. "Does anyone care?"
Dolores Rai-orden 😃 as in rye-orden
No, it's O'Riordan. Pronounced o'REERdon (emphasis on the 'reer', not the 'don'). Not 'rye' or 'rai'.
Tell me these three are not going to be allowed to breed😮
Be kind Frankie! 😁
