- The BEST version of Home by the Sea by Genesis that I have every found yet. The song was recorded live in Dusseldorf. My friend Doug Swartz gave me his only copy before he passed away a few years back. This is a way to preserve what was a hell of a great song. The pics are actual pics of that concert too.
Probably one of the best compositions post \gabriel and \hacket
i wish they would do just one more tour
Well you’re in luck
and it's on the setlist
Heard this on schrooms years and literally said “WTF”
I prefer the When in Rome version, the solo guitar was really on point.
That Rome version is stunning and awesome.
Mike actually played a bum note on the night, they fixed it in post. Still a great performance.
a Journo from the New Musical Express described this album as 'Appalling'. Clearly a man who wouldn't recognise a great album if he came one night and found it in bed with his wife.
A below average version. The key is too low and the solo at the end doesn't compare to the 1987 Wembley version.
Mike’s guitar solo here is definitely not as sharp as in 1987, though that’s to be expected 20 years later. I will say that one thing I always admired about Rutherford was his willingness to play at least slightly different riffs from one concert to the next on songs like this and Abacab. Genesis was usually so tight and spot-on as a concert band that it was nice to hear a willingness to be a little adventurous at times.
Rutherford is a gifted songwriter but unfortunately when it comes to solos he's all thumbs
@@scottburns5376 Its his basslines that stand out. As a bassist (not me, him lol) he is MUCH better than his guitar work. He's in my top 5 because he's so damn original....
Well noticed with the key. Its quite a jump actually, not just a semitone or two....I wish more bands would play in keys they can stick to as they age. Its why they also keep their voices e.g. Robert Smith, Phil Oakley, to name two...
Well done@Phil
How did i never hear this song until 2022?
Wow...incredible.
Wish they made decent music these days.
Lol welcome aboard
listen to " second home by the sea" trust me
Any version of this song is excellent. The interweaving harmonies and haunting keyboards in the background are outstanding. The vocals are secondary to everything else.
Guten Tag. Ihre Meinung ist sehr interessant. Schöne Tage wünsche ich Ihnen.
I don't know 😕...Phil's vocals really carry lots of weight in this tune
Not disagreeing one bit. I find myself listening more to the strings and keyboards. Nonetheless, the entire package is incredible.
This was recorded on the we can’t dance tour I think best version was recorded at Wembley stadium invisible touch tour
Yeees the Wembley version was immense, Phil's voice was so powerful, the raw guitar tone and the keyboard was *chef's kiss*.
Definitely I was there they were in they're prime on that tour!
Genesis were quite simply the best ever this version is classic but any version this legendary band did was genius we'll choreographed i am running out of superlatives for this great band we have to treasure them what a legacy they have left all Genesis fans worldwide 😊😊😊
This Song is a time machine....good times returned.Fantastic!
Fantastic quality home by the sea and second home by the sea genius Genesis we're the masters beautiful melodic sound phil with his power full sultry voice the drums the fantastic keyboard of tony and the magnificent bass of Mike plus the electric guitar of daryl this mounts up for me the Best rock band ever just pute genius these guys have it in abundance
Mike played guitar on this and Daryl played bass. They have always arranged it that way.
absolutely brilliant sorry i never got to see themin concert
Great piece; one of the highlights on the 2007 tour (on which I caught Genesis for the second and final time) for sure.
it is a laid back version, that actually sounds like a sound check. Phil likes to play songs slower during sound checks. . interesting mood on this...
i was wondering that myself. But it is one of the best live versions I've heard. I'll add this to my playlist. Thanks for posting this.
Indeed very good. My favourite genesis song
Actually, I'm gonna throw everyone a curve by saying my favorite version is the live one from the "We Can't Dance" tour because it's more refined, has more low end and the drums are much more dynamic. Everything is in perfect harmony on that version, particularly the transition to Second Home By the Sea. It's even better watching the live show of it from the DVD on a decent surround system.
The We Can’t Dance DVD was not the performance used on the CD. Same tour different performances. The DVD is not filmed from one show even though it is described as such. Some songs on the DVD have different stage setups.
I fully agree, the 1992 Tour version with the big screens, Mr Collins et al. at the height of their powers.
the best HOME by the sea is from the mama tour, when phil could do sing it properly, the best SECOND home by the sea is from wembley 1987, although i really like the WCD tour aswell
@@oyvi00i I wholeheartedly disagree. I saw them perform "Home By the Sea-Second Home By the Sea" on both the Mama and Invisible Touch tours and although they were both great, particularly the Mama tour when they introduced concert goers to the mesmerizing and massive "Vari-Lites" for the first time, I'm sticking with my opinion. They really got it right on the "We Can't Dance" '92 tour.
Thanks
too slow
I was there so just say amazing!!
If listening to this doesnt take you places then you’ll never go anywhere.
Well said. As with most of their music, starting with Gabriel years, you can close your eyes and transport yourself spiritually. IMO, this is their best piece after Wind & Withering. Awesome version!
LA MEJOR VERSION PARA LOS QUE SABEN ES LA DEL MAMA TOUR, LA HABRE VISTO MILES DE VECES Y PUEDO CONTAR MUCHOS DETALLES QUE NADIE HA CONTADO HASTA AHORA. LA SEGUNDA PARTE ES HERMOSA CN LA BATERIA ELECTRONICA SOLO SE PUEDE OBTENER ESE SONIDO CASI METALICO.
Key is lowered from the original. No way it can be the best version. Sounds dead
I like this - slower is better for this song. Its all about looking back and being powerless
Not for me, the best versions of this song were played on the mama tour, the invisible touch tour had a decent version at Wembley as well.
I saw them at Chicago for the Invisible Touch Tour. Had front row center seats. Best concert ever. It was magic.
Its Phil Collins no matter its amazing he is amazing
❤❤😊😢
You are audiophile !!
This sound different with another
"Home by the Sea" !!
More crispy I said
The sound is actually less precise and precise is essential to the dystopian theme of the fake perfect home by never calming water
Adorei demais!!! ❤
Great 🎶 song
Can really appreciate Mike's great bass playing on this version.
Isn't this just the same version as on the official tour album?
❤
Love this song...but not this version. I respectfully disagree. It sounds like Genesis was ready for bed.
Sounds good to me. Very full and rich.
so which version is the best then???
Dave S
Mama Tour version.
They were at their best.
Second home by the sea is amazing.
Not really the best version!
I love the Wembley stadium version to
ThankYou for posting!

What kind keyboards did Tony Banks use?
They had black and white keys 🎹 on. 😃
@@Eleventhearlofmars , workstations? Synthysizers? Samplers? Kronos? Montage? Fantom? VSTs? Roland? Yamaha? Korg? Mellotron? Oberheim? Prophet? Arp? Vox? Hammond? Farfisa? Rhodes?
João Marcos I was pulling your leg mate?! 👍🏼😂
@@Eleventhearlofmars , ok, after all, brazilians are funnier, aren't they?
João Marcos well, if the Genesis song of the same name goes I’d say strange rather than funny. 😉😆
the best version is the 2007 remastered version of part 2... without the voice of Mr. Collins :-)
